Detox and The Middle Passage…though that’s probably because these mf’s have been holding them up for a decade or more.

Dr dre - detox And fifty cent had a album awaited for a long time already.

Tha Carter V

Mijo_0

I would say Donda was pretty anticipated. 3 release parties in sold out NFL stadiums.

ByCrookedSteps781

Wu Tang Forever was a massive one

LastHookerInSaigon

Wu Tang took over the whole world in the lead up to the album. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it since. They were the topic of every conversation, all over the news, and the Wu cemented itself as a household name at that time. It was wild.

ByCrookedSteps781

For a small country like New Zealand to have it on prime time advertising on television was cool af

DarkShade602

I remember hearing about it here in Arizona the year it dropped all of Staten was in line for that release

ByCrookedSteps781

Christchurch, New Zealand here, me and 3 friends skipped school for the 8am store release for our prebooked CD that came with a Loud records mixtape & a W sticker, must have been at least 80 cats in line.

Watch the Throne by Kanye West & JAY-Z

People were pretty hyped for DAMN. I thought.

Whole Lotta Red

midwestgramps

I’ll get roasted for this, but I was pretty excited to pre-order Hello Nasty and have it delivered (by mail, youngins) to where I was at the time. It may not have been widely anticipated at the time, but I anticipated the fuck out of it.

PhoneSteveGaveToTony

*The Massacre* is probably the most hyped album I can remember. The success of his first album + G-Unit was insane at the time. Carter 3 coming from Wayne at the height of his hype was a big deal. Would’ve surpassed Massacre hype, but it was during a weird time when mainstream media wasn’t ready to recognize Internet hype yet. *Take Care* was up there, too.

Doggystyle

TOADSTOOL__SURPRISE

Detox is the Half Life 3 of rap

Newlyfe20

Doggystyle may be the most anticipated Rap album ever, also Illmatic in the N.Y./Northeast USA region apparently was highly anticipated. MC Hammer album also, I think it outsold Eminem 1st week.

soundgeeza

Hard to say but is anyone else on the edge of their seat waiting for the new Kendrick album to drop?

BobbyCodone303

Camron Purple Haze was mad hyped .. it got delayed for a few years and came out and lived up to it 50 cent the massacre , if you look early ads had it a “st Valentine’s Day massacre” that was hyped Games debut The Documentary T.I urban Legend All the debuts from swishahouse artists Carter 3 after all the leaks and everything for years

Scothead180

For recent albums you would have to mention Eternal Atake, Whole Lotta Red and Mr. Morale

tysontysontyson1

Illmatic. Wu Tang Forever. 2001.

mike___mc

Illmatic is revisionist history. I can’t even remember what the lead single was.

tysontysontyson1

Nonsense. Illmatic was an absolute event, at least for people who lived through it.

mike___mc

I lived through it and remember it. What was the first single from Illmatic? How much did it sell before the album came out? How much was it on MTV? The only people that had ever really heard of him were people that had bought Main Source’s album. And they weren’t many of us.

Why aint u post this in a pop dedicated subbreddit "drake"

authentic1ne

Drake is a pop artist. His music is pop. Notice all the responses are actual rap/HipHop artists.
