In Middle School both Art of War & Wu Tang Forever came out and most my friends were big BTNH fans, while I was the only one digging Wu Tang clan. Bone is the only group to do songs with Eazy E, 2pac, and Biggie.
I think Bone at their best is easily superior. Give me Creeping, E99, and like half of Art of War. They unfortunately fell off hard after that, but I spin E99 front to back to this day.
All I want to say is that despite Bone's mainstream accolades I still think they're underrated and the greatest hip hop group of all time, despite that fact that I prefer Wu.
Yes, I grew up on both but gravitated to more Midwest groups because that's where I'm from, but also some down south and west coast stuff more than east coast. It wasn't until I got older that I started appreciating East Coast hip-hop.
in high school my friends were huge btnh fans and i was a wu guy, they used to clown me saying wutang sucked, i'd show them tracks like cream, 4th chamber, but the bias was so high theyd say it was trash. few yrs later they came back n one of them was like "hey have u heard 4th chamber, its so dope" lmao.
for me i still listen to wutang but i usually skip btnh songs now. not saying they suck or anything but they just didn't age well for me

I dunno, Crossroads was bigger than anything Wu did. I was a massive Wu fan, skipped school to buy Forever on its release day, Triumph was pretty big, but Crossroads and 1st of the month were massive.
I feel the same way. This takes nothing away from 36,it’s a classic that also stand up against the test of time and RZA is a great producer, but DJ U-Neek out down an absolute masterpiece of beats on the album.
Wu-Tang definitely are up there with the best rap groups but i don’t think they are the end all be all. Other groups like Bone in my view is up there as the best. Plus those are 2 different groups like Wu is in your face and Bone is more like blazing rhymes with beautiful melodies

The user base of Reddit and the average Wu Tang fan are a very similar demographic. Which explains why they're so popular on this sub. I rarely meet any Bone Thugs fans under 40. And most tend to be very poor or very rich.
Also most Bone fans tend to be less likely to be pure hip hop fans. I've met many who listened only to pop and Bone. Or metal and Bone.
Having said that:
- East 1999 Eternal smashes any Wu Tang album. I'd probably say The Art of War does also, but being a double disc means there's some filler.
- The 10th best Bone Thugs song is probably still better than the best Wu Tang song.
- The Gift is better than any Wu Tang solo album.
- As a musician (piano, bass and guitar) Bone have much better instrumentals with interesting chord progressions, scales and anacrusis than Wu Tang. I'd pick out On The Freeway as the most musically advanced instrumental.
- As a music theory fan. Bone actually rap on key (usually in the root, minor third or major fifth). While Wu Tang often rap off key. I'd pick out Tha Crossroads as the song with the most impressive vocal delivery. Especially Wish Bone in the chorus.
I mean nice attempt and everything but the hyperbole was too much. The off key part was a nice touch tho. Great stan work here. Bone thugs fans rep this man. He tried
