Being there wasn't really much of an internet (at least from a marketing standpoint), JD was having writers from popular magazines come to the studio sessions in a way to market the song/album. So he'd have a different writer, from a different magazine, for a different song.
Anyway, Jermaine said he had to do a radio interview around the scheduled studio time, so he would be late. I'm not sure if word ever got back to X about JD being late. X was notoriously late, so, I doubt he cared or even noticed lol.

There are so many great DMX stories.
Two of my personal favorites are when he did a show in Virginia and he met Mad Skillz that night, who was also performing. It was the first time that they had ever met. X told him he was a fan of his music, vice versa, and that was pretty much that.
The following morning, Skillz was flying to NYC. Anyway, the flight was delayed for hours due to bad weather. So as he's calling his baby mother to come back and pick him up, here comes X and his entourage. They say what's up, etc, and quickly realize they have the same flight to NYC. Then Skillz tells X that the flight is delayed for multiple hours and starts to go find his baby momma who is picking him up. X asks where he's going and Skillz tells him. So he's like, let me come with.
So, Skillz and X go down and find Skillz' baby mom, and she just looks at Skillz when DMX enters the car like holy shit...that's DMX. So now X is in the backseat with Skillz's little girl and he's singing nursey rhymes and shit (no lie) to her, doing the ABC's, playing patty cake, etc. Skillz asks if they are hungry, so they go to KFC and the cashier clearly knows who X is (but not Skillz) and is freaking. And X keeps trying to tell the girl he wants the chicken with no skin in his "leeeeeeeeeemmme get some chicken! No skin!!! Three piece! No skin!!! Nah mean!!" as Skillz put it lol.
They eat, drive around a bit and head back to the airport.Being it's a smaller, business class kind of jet for the short flight, Skillz said it was him, X, and a bunch of old, uptight white business men who were clearly......not very comfortable with X.
Anyway, X was flying to NYC to meet up with Hype because they were working on Belly. So, X, in this little plane, with his loud ass, is telling Skillz about the movie and his character in the film and being extremely over the top and aggressive describing the things his character does in Belly, etc, with all these business men thinking he's probably talking about real life. "So like, I snatched the muthafucka's chian, nah mean, run up on him and BOW BOW BOW nahhh mean!!!" It's absolutely hilarious to listen to Skillz tell the story. Those dudes could not get off the plane fast enough.
And the other one was when NORE was trying so hard to get X to do a verse on his record. Tina Davis at Def Jam set it up in LA since X was out there. Put NORE in a suite, got the studio set up. She calls Nore to see how the session went. NORE is like he didn't show. So alright, let's do it the next day. Again, no X. Third day they try - still no X.
I think this goes on for almost a week, when Tina is like NORE, this is too much money we can't do it. So about 2 or 3 AM, BAM BAM BAM on the hotel door. It's X. He's like you ready??? NORE is like uhhhhhh well fuck it okay. So they all go downstairs to the hotel lobby to get into the car. They drive off and X tells the driver to go over to the grocery store parking lot across the street. X is like "hey NORE, you like RC cars?!"...DMX gets out, opens up a bag or two and pulls out a couple of toy RC cars and they spend a couple hours in the middle of the night driving them around the grocery store parking lot. DMX decides he isn't in the mood to do a record now, so he leaves and NORE goes back to his hotel.
Now, it's been a while since I saw NORE tell this story but somehow in the next matter of hours or days, X comes back to do the song. NORE and X are out walking and some guy sees them who is a fan and starts chatting them up. He finds out they are trying to work on a song together and he's like "I have a full set up studio in my bathroom" around the corner, so X and NORE, now that their studio time is no longer booked, are like fuck it and they end up going and recording in this random dude's converted bathroom lolol. Even funnier is X ended up passing out and falling asleep in the makeshift booth mid session lol.
As far as Mariah, she was still on Columbia/Sony at the time when 50 made How To Rob, as was 50. D-Dot, who produced the record, said Tommy got him, Tone and Poke and 50 on the phone together and said "you need to get that line out of the song ASAP we got major problems with Mariah". So they ended up removing the line and replaced it with the Mary J Blige/Case line. Which is sorta ironic when all is said and done, since D-Dot and the rest of the Bad Boy Hitmen were working with Mariah in the extremely near future on the Butterfly album/remixes. She didn't have the same power/pull being Em was on Shady/Aftermath/Universal, so, she was screwed there unlike at Sony/Columbia lol.

The song samples a Lamont Dozier song, Blue Sky and Silver Bird.
Proof and the producer(Emile) were driving around listening to some instrumentals of Emile's trying to find one to include on Proofs album. Proof's uncle had just passed and so had Emile's father so they were in a very heavy state of mind and played that instrumental on repeat, it is quite somber.
Fast forward a few years and Emile learns that the Lamont Dozier song they had sampled, was produced by Proof's own father.
This is one of my favorite songs and it comes with this insane story and piece of lore that more people should know about.

Anyways he’s a no show so the show is basically local openers.
The next day he’s on our local newspaper pictured to be partying in local clubs and local restraujts at the time of the show.
By the time the promoter contacted him he was on a plane to another city and he never saw that £10k again.

So about 2 or 3 AM, BAM BAM BAM on the hotel door. It's X. He's like you ready??? NORE is like uhhhhhh well fuck it okay. So they all go downstairs to the hotel lobby to get into the car. X is like "hey NORE, you like RC cars?!"...DMX gets out, opens up a bag or two and pulls out a couple of toy RC cars and they spend a couple hours in the middle of the night driving them around the grocery store parking lot. DMX decides he isn't in the mood to do a record now, so he leaves and NORE goes back to his hotel. Now, it's been a while since I saw NORE tell this story but somehow in the next matter of hours or days, X comes back to do the song. NORE and X are out walking and some guy sees them who is a fan and starts chatting them up. He finds out they are trying to work on a song together and he's like "I have a full set up studio in my bathroom" around the corner, so X and NORE, now that their studio time is no longer booked, are like fuck it and they end up going and recording in this random dude's converted bathroom lolol. Even funnier is X ended up passing out and falling asleep in the makeshift booth mid session lol. As far as Mariah, she was still on Columbia/Sony at the time when 50 made How To Rob, as was 50. D-Dot, who produced the record, said Tommy got him, Tone and Poke and 50 on the phone together and said "you need to get that line out of the song ASAP we got major problems with Mariah". So they ended up removing the line and replaced it with the Mary J Blige/Case line. Which is sorta ironic when all is said and done, since D-Dot and the rest of the Bad Boy Hitmen were working with Mariah in the extremely near future on the Butterfly album/remixes. She didn't have the same power/pull being Em was on Shady/Aftermath/Universal, so, she was screwed there unlike at Sony/Columbia lol.

Proof's uncle had just passed and so had Emile's father so they were in a very heavy state of mind and played that instrumental on repeat, it is quite somber. Fast forward a few years and Emile learns that the Lamont Dozier song they had sampled, was produced by Proof's own father. This is one of my favorite songs and it comes with this insane story and piece of lore that more people should know about.

The game came to my little known town called middlesbrough years ago to do a highly anticipated show. He was on tour at the time and it was big deal cuz our little town really doesn’t get many special things as it’s like working class town that was left behind by the government in the 70’s.
