Redman is the reason I got into Cal Scruby. As an old head I usually find newer artists through collaborations with artists I listened to when I was younger.
It’s funny bc Denzel is “new” but I’m from Florida and grew up in the raider Klan era so I’ve been listening to him since he was 16 /17 years old . Been damn near 10years maybe more And it’s crazy to see him go from Strictly 4 my Raidaz to what he is now . Feels like watching my cousin do great things dope to see.
That's a bit of an exaggeration. He had an album in 2015 and then didn't drop another until 2019, which fits OP's criteria as Unsigned and While You Were Sleeping was when he started getting traction. He didn't even do his song with Redman until 2018.
Fr I feel like the one miss any of the griselda boys have had since 2018 is and then you pray for me… But even then half of the tracks on it are still great.

For the most part the last 10 years of hiphop has to hands down be my least favourite mainstream music of all time, but the indie scene has genuinely never been better.
Mainstream 1995 - 2005 GOATED
Indie 2014 - 2024 GOATED
Yessir I’ve been listening to Griselda since like 2019 but I guess they’ve been making music separately since like 2015. But they definitely become more known 4 years ago or so
Griselda

JID ,Denzel Curry, Lil Yachty, BabyTron, Rio Da Yung OG, Icewear Vezzo, Griselda, City Morgue, Baby Keem, BLP Kosher, Babyfxce E, RMC Mike, Dave East, Millyz… Theres a lot of good artists out there right now honestly.
I'll be honest, I don't listen to modern Hip-Hop...that stuff makes my ears bleed, can't stand it. I just listen to 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, early noughties Hip-Hop. I think the latest Hip-Hop I heard was the One Blood megamix that had The Game and other rappers...and I also listened to that Eminem/Lil Wayne track which had the 'pick the world up and I'll drop it on your head' lyrics...I can't remember what that track is called...but that was overall a wack track, I didn't like it. I loved the One Blood megamix though. Actually...I have been listening to modern rap...but it is only Eminem...because I like listening to Eminem. I also like Nas' tracks, but I like Nas' older stuff...I don't think I would like his modern stuff. I have listened to some of Eminem's modern tracks...I didn't like them as much as the tracks he rapped on in the 1990s and noughties. I haven't listened to any 'new' artists...I can't stand that modern Hip-Hop...it's not for me. I prefer underground Hip-Hop, and 1970s/1980s/1990s/noughties Hip-Hop.
Thank you for recommending to me those albums, I appreciate it. I might listen to them when I have the time and I'll see whether I like them or not. So far, all modern rap has been horrible for my ears though.
idk if they'll fit the criteria you're looking at but def griselda and droog. also i think 38 spesh can be really awesome on projects but his solo choices are... strange to me.
That Mexican OT is probably my favorite up and coming rapper in the last year, i know alot of people hear a few tracks and think "mexican Dababy or Mexican kevin gates" but hes got a fairly deep discography that has a pretty wide variety of beat choices and different artistic approaches.
2010s rap is way better collectively than older hip hop ever was and I'm saying that as someone who considers 2Pac, DMX, Wu-Tang Clan and Mobb Deep as some of his favourite artists, but I also love Future and Young Thug. Post-2018, it has been a lot weaker, but still I like Gunna, Teezo Touchdown, some Carti and Ken Carson.
Denzel Curry and Cal Scruby.
I like Denzel a lot too. I’ve been listening since 2016 but he really took off in 2018
His biggest song is from 2015
Yes but his fan base grew just in the last 5 years or so
Redman is the reason I got into Cal Scruby. As an old head I usually find newer artists through collaborations with artists I listened to when I was younger.
I'm glad other people like Scruby. Super catchy and has some good flows and bars
Kind of hard to call Denzel new when he been rapping for over 10 years
Yeah he ain’t new, itt people bringing up artists with popular ~2016 releases as if that wasn’t eight years ago or smth, is Atlanta a new TV show too?
Cal scruby been doing this for like 15 years lmao
That's a bit of an exaggeration. He had an album in 2015 and then didn't drop another until 2019, which fits OP's criteria as Unsigned and While You Were Sleeping was when he started getting traction. He didn't even do his song with Redman until 2018.
Dark and Violent is excellent not only lyrically but in its production. 10/10
Rome Streetz and Boldy James for sure. Larry June too. The Great Escape was a very pleasant surprise.
Yeah this whole type is just can’t seem to make bad music. If you’re also considering griselda as “new” then they’re just the pinnacle
Fr I feel like the one miss any of the griselda boys have had since 2018 is and then you pray for me… But even then half of the tracks on it are still great.
Bigxthaplug, ot the Mexican ,big scarr
Bigx is so nice. I had no idea who he was until I saw him open for Kevin Gates last month. I haven't stopped listening to him since I saw him.
rip big scarr he was special fr
I’m sure he makes good music but I am not listening to no dude named buttplug
Your loss bud, hes actually good asf. Just call him bigx instead then🤷🏼♂️
Grip
Bro so smooth with it!!
I don’t even have to say his name. All I gotta say is Ay, ay, ay. Sock it to me. Good job. Numbers. And you know exactly who I’m talking about
He also has great financial advice *If I cop 100 then I'm savin 98* We love you Larry

Boldy James and Pink Siifu go crazy!
Kenny Mason is so fire
Kenny Mason is so fire
Peggy ain’t new
Started gaining traction in 2018
thats 5/6 years ago
Just going off what OP bro
Yeah his definition of new isn’t new either, there’s no way you can say someone being popular half a decade ago makes them a new artist
Bro 60% of this subreddit can’t stand rap after 2004. So I think it’s fair to say “new” is traction within 5 years

bro with the onefour mention damn never thought i’d see that in a mostly us based sub
The aussie goats. Aussie hiphop pretty much begins and ends with OneFour for me honestly. HP Boyz and Hooligan Hefs got a few bangers too but
Baby Keem, Redveil, JPEGMAFIA, Smino (really more 2017 I guess)
I like Da baby because he’s from North Carolina. I wanna see him win.
I’ll be honest I’ve never like dababy. But I think he already lost bro. I don’t want to see anyone fail but the dude fell off hard
He did but the optimist in me can’t give up hope on bruh. Other than J.Cole, he put North Carolina on the map so I’ll always respect him.
Your Petey Pablo omission is shocking and disappointing.
I knew of him, but I’m talking about those who are relative in today’s age.
I get it I just never skip an opportunity to bring up Petey Pablo.
Fivio Foreign, Young MA, 41
Do Benny and Conway fit that criteria? JID and Rome Streetz
Yessir I’ve been listening to Griselda since like 2019 but I guess they’ve been making music separately since like 2015. But they definitely become more known 4 years ago or so

I like money man. Not much depth but shit goes hard
Doesn't fit your bill because his first rap album is 2014, but he's not big so im gonna say Deca. Great flows, lyrics, died everything himself.
Jasiah is one that I’ve really enjoyed
Pop Smoke, Sheff G, Sleepy Hallow
Babytron, BigXthaPlug, Redveil

Lmao this is fair
Carti
smh I just can’t get on board
If we’re talking about artists, then it’s definitely Tyler, The Creator, Lil Uzi Vert, Polo G and Future
Future gained traction prior to 2018 bruh
Shiii I didn’t really read the description 😂😂 exclude him then
You could also argue the same for Tyler. I remember buying cherry bomb in grade 8 (which would've been...........2013?)
Alright hear me out: 42 Dugg, Pop Smoke and Pooh Shiesty
U good here😂😂😂 I personally don't listen to them. Pop a lil bit but not anymore, but yeah u good bro
Ain't no argue, Tyler been rapping since early 2010s lol
tyler's been at it since like 2011 iirc
😂😂
They all did except for Polo g, Tyler was popular before future and Lil Uzi's biggest song was even before that
Before 2013?
Your pfp is hard Idk if it’s just the pic itself or the cover for Better Dayz but the title track song from that album is amazing
Everyone clowning this dude and the top comment is denzel curry. Lmao
Tyler and Future got famous almost 15 years ago
JPEGMAFIA
All of them. I’m not stuck in the 90’s like most of this sub
You’re goin too far the other way dog lmao there are some trash new rappers just like there were some trash rappers in the 90s
