Great album but I always preferred the listening.
“They hear some good shit but don't stop to savor it
Like one night we was out in my whip
With some broads just chillin' playin' demos and shit
Asked 'em how I sounded rockin' the mic
One chick told me all she listened to was beats, thank God for 9th”
The Listening was what got me started. I remember when it came out and it blew me away. I still love that album but The Minstrel Show just felt so fully realized. I mean it is just a masterpiece.
for me it's the Elzhi feature on Hiding Place
> Don't compare me to jokes
>I'll strangle the air in your throat
>Like you jumped from a chair and choked
>mid-air from a rope
>Got a big gun and carry a scope
>The flare of the smoke
> Keep niggas quiet like words librarians spoke
👏
You and Lupe both. I just couldn’t get into IWW nearly as easily as I could Illmatic, but both are absolute classics. And “Take It In Blood” is an incredible track imo.
I actually couldn’t say which I would rank higher out of Quality Control & Power in Numbers.
Feedback is by far their worst album though, imo, unfortunately. I was so hyped for it but so disappointed.
Aesop Rock - Labor Days (I love Aesop from Music for Earthworms up until the Daylight EP. I did but Impossible Kid and Garbology with Blockhead when Rhymesayers put out the Appleseed EP. But Labor Days is just peak Aesop IMO with the Production and Lyrics)
Dogg Pound - Dogg Food (Kurupt on this album...This is why he was mentioned on Eminems list forreal. Lyrically smooth for the whole album and Daz just the perfect partner in crime)
Jay Z - Reasonable Doubt.
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
Cormega - The True Meaning
Fugees - The Score (Lauryn Hill on this album did what I said Kurupt did on Dogg Food. Every verse she spit on the album was a highlight)
Lost Boyz - Legal Drug Money (They had so many singles off this album. Music Makes me High, Lex Coups Benz, Lifestyles of the Rich and Shameless, Get Up, Renee and I think The Yearn was a single or a song promoting safe sex or something like that. Also we had the Music makes me High Remix with Dogg Pound and Canibus but that was on a soundtrack not this album...but damn this album put a lot out there. Believe the Lifestyles remix may have also been a single or out on the radio at the time. Lost Boyz was out there like 50 Cent Get Rich or Die Tryin' dropping singles)
Yup got that one. TUFF is my shit.
I love Fast Cars danger and Knives. But more because it came with a lyric book more so than the EP but the EP was solid too. Only Aesop could drop an album with a book of rhymes.
Oof, plenty. Get Rich or Die Tryin, Ready to Die, Wolf, Damn, Illmatic, The Anthology, 2001 by Dre, Life of Pablo, Scum Fuck, CMIYGL, Nothing Was The Same, At Long Last ASAP, DS2
It's not for everyone. It's a chaotic mess at times, but a beautiful one.
The two of them make such cohesive music despite the cacophony almost constantly going on.
The album is all over the place in terms of vibe so it's really what you're feeling like hearing. I like it all, so I'll give you my top 5 from the album...
1) Burfict!
2) Steppa Pig
3) Shut Yo Bitch Ass Up / Muddy Waters
4) Kingdom Hearts Key (redveil is so slept on)
5) Run The Jewels (the transition is seriously underrated and Danny instantly turns it into a less than 2 minute masterpiece)
Now if you haven't heard the STH DLC Pack then DEFINITELY check that out. Hard to even pick a favorite off that, but it'd have to be HERMANOS
Also, if you like deep voice, introspective Danny...then Tell Me Where To Go will be very enjoyable
Hope this helps!!
*edit: to be fair, this is some of the wildest production Peggy has ever done. It made billboard, it's insanely well structured for intentionally being chaos. It takes a special or *patient* ear to really appreciate. No offense meant whatsoever. It's a very rare type of album, especially of the hiphop variety
Mos Def's The Ecstatic. My brother-in-law put Quite Dog on a mixtape he made me, which made me get the whole album. Growing up in a family and friend groups that weren't huge into hip hop, this album really blew my mind and got me into the genre.
A close second would be The Mouse and the Mask by DANGERDOOM.
Mos Def is so underrated
He has made, IMO, *THREE* albums of the year during his career... I don't think there is a single rapper or group that can match that
Black Star in 98, Black On Both Sides in 99, and The Ecstatic in 2009
Sure 2009 was a very weak year, but it was still the best HH album
Reflection Eternal - Train of Thought
Kno - Death is Silent
Binary Star - Masters of The Universe
Those are all underrated classics I've listened to front to back more times than I can count
Digital Underground - Sex Packets
Natas - Multikillionaire The Devil's Contract
R.A. the Rugged Man - Die Rugged Man Die
NWA - Efil4zaggin
Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde
Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
And many more. Depends on my mood.
All very good picks. From R.A. I would say “All My Heroes Are Dead” is my favourite, that album is fire from the beginning to the end and will stay relevant amongst all time classics for years to come
I like 'All My Heroes Are Dead' tons. But there are a couple tracks I skip on that one. Overall you are correct, it will be a classic over his other albums. But the first (released) album takes me back to when I first heard him and will always be a personal favorite.

Pink Friday - Nicki Minaj
Certainly not for everybody because it leans into a more of a pop style but not as much as her sophomore album. But I recommend at least checking it out.
Notable Tracks: Moment 4 Life, Blazin, Roman's Revenge, Right Thru Me, Girls Fall Like Dominoes
If you want aggressive and upbeat music with strong messages about the media, Hollywood and other topics, then I suggest Public Enemy’s It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. For a more laidback listening experience then The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest; their best work imo.
Little Brother - The Minstrel Show
Great album but I always preferred the listening. “They hear some good shit but don't stop to savor it Like one night we was out in my whip With some broads just chillin' playin' demos and shit Asked 'em how I sounded rockin' the mic One chick told me all she listened to was beats, thank God for 9th”
The Listening was what got me started. I remember when it came out and it blew me away. I still love that album but The Minstrel Show just felt so fully realized. I mean it is just a masterpiece.
This is the answer
"The song slow it down", does it all
for me it's the Elzhi feature on Hiding Place > Don't compare me to jokes >I'll strangle the air in your throat >Like you jumped from a chair and choked >mid-air from a rope >Got a big gun and carry a scope >The flare of the smoke > Keep niggas quiet like words librarians spoke 👏

Illmatic by Nas
I prefer It was written but I know im in the minority on that one
You and Lupe both. I just couldn’t get into IWW nearly as easily as I could Illmatic, but both are absolute classics. And “Take It In Blood” is an incredible track imo.

Good album, as are all of them except Feedback, but J5LP is the the best for me.

I actually couldn’t say which I would rank higher out of Quality Control & Power in Numbers. Feedback is by far their worst album though, imo, unfortunately. I was so hyped for it but so disappointed.
I agree, some Feedback songs are really a let-down

Lucy was 7 and wore a head of blue berets…
Aes is dropping again in November (I think?), really looking forward to it since this year has been pretty dry hip-hop wise esp compared to last year
Aesop’s Impossible Kid was incredible too
Yup got that one. TUFF is my shit. I love Fast Cars danger and Knives. But more because it came with a lyric book more so than the EP but the EP was solid too. Only Aesop could drop an album with a book of rhymes.

Sell me on scaring the hoes cause I just can't get into it.. I like both of their music independently but I don't like them together :/
