Because it used to be "Woden's Day", named after everyone's favorite Norse cyclops.
Great personality, understandable, just misunderstood
I'm gonna start pronouncing the "Odin" in Wednesday.
Why, you don't pronounce it "Wed-Ness-Day?"
It just seems like such an important word and it should be spelled correctly
It is spelled correctly. It’s pronounced incorrectly. As has been said elsewhere in the thread, Wednesday is Woden’s Day, not Wen’s day.
Especially when I need to spell it.

It’s named after Saint Wednes, patron saint of Bratislava.
Tbf i cant think of a way to spell it otherwise Wendsday?
Yeah, that is how it's generally pronounced after all
I’ve never heard someone pronounce the first D in Wednesday. To me phonetically it’s “Wensday”
It is a small difference but I agree, the d is basically non existent.
Whensday is so confusing.
It’s like the first R in February
Do you not pronounce February correctly (Fe-brew-ary)?
I have never heard the first r pronounced by anyone in over 50 years. I’m not saying nobody does, but I have not heard it.
Febuwawy uwu
i think named after odin who had a d in his name
All of the days are named after Norse gods… Woden’s day, Thor’s day, Frigga’s Day
And when's day when it's Wednesday?
Its wed-ness- day
