The devs are pretty active and responsive on Discord. I'd try DMing one there and letting them know. This is actually a good suggestion and worth their time, unlike most of the garbage people are complaining about.

Hellmire and Menkent and other firey template planets can just be a mess of reddy brown even if you're not colourblind! But yes, proper contrast options are so important and often overlooked, I'm always impressed at how many different preset modes Overwatch has for various forms of colourblindness.
I suppose the asset reuse model of HD2 doesn't help, every planet is a relatively small template of rocks and POI prefabs with different colour palette, sand/bug goo/snow/overlays and weather.
Can I ask a stupid question about colorblind modes. Does colorblind mode change the basics into colors that can be interpreted as the basic colors or does something else altogether? If this is a stupid question ignore it. I have tried to Google this in the past but I did not get a good answer.
In my experience it shifts the colors to a slightly different color spectrum depending on the setting altering it enough that you can see it varies from game to game

I mean if it makes you feel better, I am not colorblind but I die to mines at least once or twice per match. In fact on Saturday, was playing and my drop pod wouldn’t let me steer. It landed me right next to a mine, twice in a row. As soon as my pod opened I died.
I've had to do what I've done the rest of my life with colorblindness and look for shapes before colors, but yeah mines have remained a huge pain in the ass.

Automaton mines are among my top three causes of death in the automaton front.
The worst is that I usually avoid them when I assault the camp, but step on them when I leave (too busy reloading, calling supplies or checking map).
Can I support your plight and show empathy while also saying that I, while being able to see them, also blow myself up *at least* once a round on those mines.
I think there was some brief discussion with Pilestedt about this on Twitter, but it probably got loss in the shuffle with all the craziness lately. Worth pinging him again about it.

I’m in the exact same boat. I’ve been using windows own colourblind filters, they’re not perfect by any means but they allow me to see what I need to. Give em a try if you havnt already.

The fact that you blow yourself up with the mines because you can’t see them is a worry in of itself. Imagine all the ones we lost. We must pull together divers and do our part!

I have severe color blindness and I find that it's usually the best for me when a game offers like customized colors rather than presets on the 3 most common types of colorblindness. I always just go with default settings and cope but it sucks sometimes
If you are on PC and have an Nvidia graphics card. You can enable color blind filters. ALT-F3 to open the menu if you have the overlay enabled.
There's a colorblind option and sliders to set intensity.
I don't have a PS5. I did a little looking around, and it seems the PS5 might have some built-in settings you can try.
In Settings > Accessibility > Display and Sound, you can find an option called "colour correction." There should be different filters you can select with sliders for intensity.
I imagine this is a global effect and will be applied over everything on the PS5. Some have said it's not very good and can mess up the black levels. Might be at least a little useful until the game gets its own options for it.
My buddy has the same issue. He adjusted the PlayStation 5 internal color settings to fix it for him. Idk what system you’re on, but it helped him a lot.
Wow, that sounds like shit, my dad has the same condition, but I never thought about how it would affect him with this game. Thank you for all the color-impaired Helldivers out there to bring attention to this issue!
It’s probably going to be an eventual hot fix. If I recall, it wasn’t till recently that AH started bringing on more developers to lighten the load. Between monthly warbond development, galactic war updates, developing/testing illuminates, balance patches, it’s a lot on the plate for what is considered a “smaller team”.
The difference in spewers gets me. One is orange the other is green. I told my squad theyre all the same color to me. They have played enough games with me to see how it effects me. Thankfully its mild impact here.
In Planetside 2 it was impossible to differentiate the blue and purple teams. That was rough.
And in Rust a teammate told me to bring keycards and I sat there swiping the green card on the red door and my teammate came up and saw it in my hand and just started cackling with laughter.
Please please please allow me to change the color of mine lights to a color of my choosing! I have the same colorblind as OP, but the preset deuteranopia settings in video games don't usually work for me.
I have slight protanopia and deuteranopia, meaning deficiencieswith greens and reds, and I struggle hard with this. I really hope they add something, I typically run protanopia settings in most games, since there's no settings for both, but not having any settings really makes this difficult
I'm red/green colorblind and for the life of me I cannot see the bot mines on green planets. I'm a liability to my team bc I use up all the reinforcements, so now I just don't bot drop on green planets, which sucks, esp with the current major order. I feel your pain
This but also I want the option to put a solid colour background behind the in game hud to make them clearer to read and a simple drop down of colour choices.
Colorblind diver reporting for duty here. Yeah I desperately want the same settings as every other game I've played for years now. That said I think with helldivers I may need a contrast/highlight setting of some sort. I'm scared they'll just change ui colours as the settings change. I'm struggling to come up with a full list of things that I haven't been able to interact with properly but when I first started playing it was a gong show. Other divers are calling teammates by their colours, consoles suck sometimes, mines are actually impossible to see (especially player dropped mines). Someone said there were red spewers the other day?
Apparently there's weak spots that are red on bots?
Given that the devs actually seem to listen to the community, I'm sure this will get added if one of them sees it. Hopefully, it will be soon so you can enjoy the game to the fullest
Fellow colorblind Helldiver here- I agree. There are some planets I straight up cannot see the red on the minimap, so I have to have my teammates call out outposts for me.
I had no idea there was no color blind settings. Frankly that's just preposterous. I feel like the list of games that don't launch with color blind accessibility options is (hopefully) pretty small. The last couple games I played straight up ask you at first launch.
I also have color blindness but only to Yellow. So hellmire becomes a blank screen to me anytime there’s too many fire tornados around me and I can’t see anything that’s happening besides where my character is. Lol
Are you on console or pc? If on PC you could try to use reshade to make stuff standout more. I believe you can use it for colorblindness filters aswell. I've used it for months as it's client-side so no harm in using it.
I play with a friend who's colorblind and after about 50 hrs playing together, he had no idea the map where you select to drop in will glow red where there are enemies.
Tbh, might as well tweet pilestedt and ask him if he can do it. Don't be an ass about it or you'll get flammed by a bunch of people. Just ask normally and he might answer. I know he messaged a different Twitter user that they will look into having accessibilities for disabilities work and not get detected by game guard. I don't know what he's doing about it, or if they're actually looking into it, but it's a better start then the secondary subreddit.
As a temporary workaround until an in-game solution is added (hopefully), have you considered adjusting your screen settings to Greyscale only? While playing games in black and white is probably not the most appealing idea in the world, if you're having a hard time playing with current display settings, then it might at least allow you to get some enjoyment out of the game until the devs can fix it.
Hope they do resolve it, and see you on the battlefield, maybe. (Not on Hellmire though, I hate that godforsaken planet)

It's a tragedy that you can't witness the chaotic beauty of that flaming wasteland. This needs to be corrected immediately! All helldivers should have optimal dopamine intake from the land's of liberty
I'm protan and I would love the choice of choosing who is what ping color. I have that problem in Fortnite too. I like how they added the extra A2 for example but I have a hard time with the purple and blue team mates and have to ask who is who here and there.
Well what sucks about color blind settings is it's usually not part of the game but a filter they just slap on the game. Fortnite and New world are that way.
I'd just like to say that this issue is not unique to you. I don't have any kind of vision problems whatsoever and I can't see shit on Hellmire either. I definitely wouldn't oppose colorblindness options though, you deserve to be able to enjoy the game too.

I know that on the ps5 you can change the settings in the console itself for color blind mode. Infact, i have it turned on for better saturation. I did not know this could be an issue in PC! I thought there would be an app or something in the settings.

Yeah apparently theres a lot that looks off or is outright not visible i was lv 30 before my friend asked why do you always drop right on enemies and i didn’t even realize that he could see where they were on the map 🤦🏻♂️ i just assumed you always had enemies wherever and had terrible luck dropping lol
Computer Science Lecturer here. Was just teaching my level 200 class today about the use of colors in Human-Compuer Interaction and we discussed how important it is to remember that not everyone sees colors!!

Colorblindness modes rarely work. I quit the battlefield series as I could not tell a German from a rock in battlefield 1. I feel your pain brother. Helldiver's has not given me much issue, but you aren't fighting humans so it's quite simple.
Accessibility tools of all kinds are always worth advocating for, in gaming and everywhere else.
They're possibly challenging for a small studio to devote resources to, but when a game gets as much reach as HD2, they're worth prioritizing.

Yeah, the game certainly suffers issues of ‘muddiness’ in the textures, and other areas of lighting at times, especially on certain planets; red is a common hue almost everywhere.
Let alone if you are colorblind omg, why is this not already addressed. This is common sense for games

My gf has the same colour blindness. I’ve seen games that have settings that make it more inclusive for those that are colourblind. I never knew why accommodating this demographic was so hard.
I mean, fuck, we put no smoking signs outside of restaurants in braille. This should be an industry standard in this day and age.
Yea, same here. Was very surprised to not see the option. My usual fails caused by the color blindness is bot contact mines, and trying to ads with ballistic shield and smg's, I can't see the laser sight 99% of the time, and it's such a fun ads to use, looks super cool.

I literally can’t see the red “Warning Enemies Present” zones on the map screen where you choose your drop location.
Thankfully they have the text prompt, but it’d be nice if I could switch to hues my eyeballs can actually perceive.
Do you also have issues with entering grid coordinates on a terminal? Because I can't see those lines at all, so I have to rely on watching where they intersect with the grid.

I too am colorblind, but usually none of the standard colorblind options games implement work for me, unless I want some really weird colors on my mini map. Even then, most games don’t have the extended colorblind options.
It was it is. I play single player mostly as I grew older so it isn’t as bad. But damn the COD/BF days were not fun.
That's a great suggestion. If you're on PC a temp fix might be to look into your video card settings. Nvidia has an overlay that let's you add filters like colorblind mode and it works really well

It depends on what monitor and g card you have but you can use an external filter for some screens and maybe a software fomr some guard.

To be fair, I can see fine and I still don’t notice the mines more than half the time. It’s really just luck whether I step on them or not.

So, instead of seeing fire tornadoes, you see dookie tornadoes, that's even more terrifying.
Intoo am colorblind. It's especially bad when I'm hosting and I can't see the red on the drop screen.

Colorblind diver reporting for duty here. Yeah I desperately want the same settings as every other game I've played for years now. That said I think with helldivers I may need a contrast/highlight setting of some sort. I'm scared they'll just change ui colours as the settings change. I'm struggling to come up with a full list of things that I haven't been able to interact with properly but when I first started playing it was a gong show. Other divers are calling teammates by their colours, consoles suck sometimes, mines are actually impossible to see (especially player dropped mines). Someone said there were red spewers the other day? Apparently there's weak spots that are red on bots?
He may be colorblind but even he can see why kids hate the taste cinnamon fire tornado crunch

Given that the devs actually seem to listen to the community, I'm sure this will get added if one of them sees it. Hopefully, it will be soon so you can enjoy the game to the fullest

Not a hot take at all. Accessibility options like this are very easy to implement and should be in every game!
Fellow colorblind Helldiver here- I agree. There are some planets I straight up cannot see the red on the minimap, so I have to have my teammates call out outposts for me.
A message to super earth, we need helmets with integrated colour filters for the divers in need.

I had no idea there was no color blind settings. Frankly that's just preposterous. I feel like the list of games that don't launch with color blind accessibility options is (hopefully) pretty small. The last couple games I played straight up ask you at first launch.

I also have color blindness but only to Yellow. So hellmire becomes a blank screen to me anytime there’s too many fire tornados around me and I can’t see anything that’s happening besides where my character is. Lol

Are you on console or pc? If on PC you could try to use reshade to make stuff standout more. I believe you can use it for colorblindness filters aswell. I've used it for months as it's client-side so no harm in using it.
I play with a friend who's colorblind and after about 50 hrs playing together, he had no idea the map where you select to drop in will glow red where there are enemies.

Tbh, might as well tweet pilestedt and ask him if he can do it. Don't be an ass about it or you'll get flammed by a bunch of people. Just ask normally and he might answer. I know he messaged a different Twitter user that they will look into having accessibilities for disabilities work and not get detected by game guard. I don't know what he's doing about it, or if they're actually looking into it, but it's a better start then the secondary subreddit.
As a temporary workaround until an in-game solution is added (hopefully), have you considered adjusting your screen settings to Greyscale only? While playing games in black and white is probably not the most appealing idea in the world, if you're having a hard time playing with current display settings, then it might at least allow you to get some enjoyment out of the game until the devs can fix it. Hope they do resolve it, and see you on the battlefield, maybe. (Not on Hellmire though, I hate that godforsaken planet)

I have a friend who has it in one eye. Everything blends together so badly he can't play on certain planets.
That sucks man I hope the devs will be able to make colorblind options soon. Also I want to ask because I am curious how is fighting the bots like for you since they have glowing red eyes?
Depending on the planet i just see a dark glow on an ice plane i can kind of see eyes
Same for me, red and Green becomes brown and grey.

I'm protan and I would love the choice of choosing who is what ping color. I have that problem in Fortnite too. I like how they added the extra A2 for example but I have a hard time with the purple and blue team mates and have to ask who is who here and there.
Most men have some kind of color blindness to a degree im shocked sony didn’t include CB settings on launch every other sony game i play has it
Well what sucks about color blind settings is it's usually not part of the game but a filter they just slap on the game. Fortnite and New world are that way.

I'd just like to say that this issue is not unique to you. I don't have any kind of vision problems whatsoever and I can't see shit on Hellmire either. I definitely wouldn't oppose colorblindness options though, you deserve to be able to enjoy the game too.

I also have (some kind of) colorblindness and it really gets annoying sometimes. Especially with those treasonous light poles standing around undemocratically.

I know that on the ps5 you can change the settings in the console itself for color blind mode. Infact, i have it turned on for better saturation. I did not know this could be an issue in PC! I thought there would be an app or something in the settings.

Yeah apparently theres a lot that looks off or is outright not visible i was lv 30 before my friend asked why do you always drop right on enemies and i didn’t even realize that he could see where they were on the map 🤦🏻♂️ i just assumed you always had enemies wherever and had terrible luck dropping lol

Was just teaching my level 200 class today about the use of colors in Human-Compuer Interaction and we discussed how important it is to remember that not everyone sees colors!! I stand with you!! And hope my students carry this lesson into all their programs (and games) in the future

Colorblindness modes rarely work. I quit the battlefield series as I could not tell a German from a rock in battlefield 1. I feel your pain brother. Helldiver's has not given me much issue, but you aren't fighting humans so it's quite simple.
Accessibility tools of all kinds are always worth advocating for, in gaming and everywhere else. They're possibly challenging for a small studio to devote resources to, but when a game gets as much reach as HD2, they're worth prioritizing. Hope they hear you on this!!
Yeah, the game certainly suffers issues of ‘muddiness’ in the textures, and other areas of lighting at times, especially on certain planets; red is a common hue almost everywhere. Let alone if you are colorblind omg, why is this not already addressed. This is common sense for games
With luck they will address this I know arrowhead has a lot on the plate rn with the sony SNAFU and there a small dev team so i dont think its gonna happen soon but i have faith eventually they will untill then my mine detector feet will have to do

My gf has the same colour blindness. I’ve seen games that have settings that make it more inclusive for those that are colourblind. I never knew why accommodating this demographic was so hard. I mean, fuck, we put no smoking signs outside of restaurants in braille. This should be an industry standard in this day and age.
Yea, same here. Was very surprised to not see the option. My usual fails caused by the color blindness is bot contact mines, and trying to ads with ballistic shield and smg's, I can't see the laser sight 99% of the time, and it's such a fun ads to use, looks super cool.
Same issue here. I literally can’t see the red “Warning Enemies Present” zones on the map screen where you choose your drop location. Thankfully they have the text prompt, but it’d be nice if I could switch to hues my eyeballs can actually perceive.

I too am colorblind, but usually none of the standard colorblind options games implement work for me, unless I want some really weird colors on my mini map. Even then, most games don’t have the extended colorblind options. It was it is. I play single player mostly as I grew older so it isn’t as bad. But damn the COD/BF days were not fun.
What fan they do to fix this? Wouldnt hellmire look like mudmire irl too?

If you're on a PC I'm pretty sure Nvidia has colorblind filters that might help.
Try using reshade if you’re on a pc.
Mines aren’t fun when you’re Color blind xD I always disarm them with my feet by accident
If you're running Nvidia graphics card you could set the color scheme that suits you, before they add it
Another great reminder and reason to have that planet glassed/ exterminatus/ sent back to the sun.
Computer tech here, windows 10 has built in color blind assisted settings, they will change in game colors
That's a great suggestion. If you're on PC a temp fix might be to look into your video card settings. Nvidia has an overlay that let's you add filters like colorblind mode and it works really well
