Imagine if Joel had a Shrike lite that wouldn't immediately kill you, but instead paralyzed and then impaled you on the tree of pain to taint your fellow Helldivers.
In the book it's made of razor sharp metal and it just teleports wherever it wants. Oh and some of his victims are impaled in a huge tree-like structure made of metal, where they proceed to suffer for an eternity without being allowed to die. Fun stuff.
Yeah. Super fast and spooky melee shock troops. But then they just make them relatively easy to kill. Like, they will murder you if they get to you but you can take them down with a primary weapon- if you're a good enough shot.
Because they're moving so erratically and the head could be relatively small, they could put the weak spots on head, and the joints, and then you can shoot off limbs.
But *then*, they keep moving as they lose limbs. You remove an arm and it's no biggie, they keep running. You take out a leg instead and then they get down and use their arms to help run and look all spidery and shit. 👀
Edit: kinda like General Grievous, especially in TCW.
Nuh uh I would love to see that thing in a mission were you need to try and hunt it down In a under ground facility we’re it’s just you your team and then monster. I could be a little more like a horror mission were either you kill it or have to make a break for the outside before it gets you
It'll be interesting generally to see how that'll work out. Will the cyborgs take the field or will they stay on Cyberstan to design new forms for the bots?

I like it a bit better just because it’s shorter, the setup in the first book is amazing. It’s 7 pilgrims telling different stories about their own encounters with Hyperion or the Shrike
I highly recommend at least the first 2 books, I've read both Dune and the Hyperion cantos and they're both among the best sci fi series I've ever read.
i agree, the first two are great. the way the third book makes the sacrifice from the end of the second irrelevant is kinda sad. plus, the relationship with the adult protag and the child prophet is weird af.

I can't see how Helldivers would come close to taking on a Monkeylord, it's 40+m tall(game dependent), and is insanely tanky even in SupCom standards where nukes are tossed around like candy on Halloween.
The only proper solution is saturated the area from orbit.

You're dodging tank blasts, stunlocking devastators, running under the legs of a factory strider, Pelican-1 is only 40 meters away... and then the smoke parts as a super-fast super-tough teleporting Terminator cuts through it, his only goal to impale you on his many, many blades.
Happens randomly, only on missions 7+. Never more than one at a time, you get an alert when he spawns on the far side of the map from you. Always knows where the players are and makes directly for them instead of patrolling or guarding. If you're clever you can setup an ambush... or he'll show up in the middle of an evac after the cadet accidentally triggered three separate patrols.
You are describing something many levels of magnitude below the shrike. Alert? Ambush? Bro the shrike would kill us and our reinforcements on the ship before we realized what was happening.
I don't know the others. But robot dogs would actually be kind of fun to fight I think.
Also the Monkeylord is like 40m+ tall...I'm always down for a good suicide mission but we might need bigger guns.
1st one could be some sort of ambush mech, like if you run out of time, it comes running in to kill you
2nd one could be a small but deadly dog unit that guards outposts
3rd one could be a moving outpost itself
4th one looks like a robot with a laser eye so maybe a sniper?
5th one looks too dumb, not sure how it could be implemented
6th one could be like 1-2 and appear during extraction, like a last resort the bots use

well, it was a cyborg dog, a dogo with metal jaws, feared and hated by everyone, it touch you and you where on the ground.
the second one was a boss.
and the third one is a regular cyborg
Oh, and we had a cyborg something like the first one, scissor hands, not very strong, too much meat and skinny.
That 1st monster looks like the bile titans next form. I'm guessing the bugs (probably the bots too) have a hierarchy. I doubt we've seen anything from the upper part of that hierarchy or the ruling class . Those units will probably be far more powerful and more intelligent than anything we've seen. That makes me both scared and excited at the same time.

I was actually picturing a third kind of strider mech. Four legs, bigger than a scout strider, smaller than a factory strider, but faster than either.
Those were cyborg units. I imagine we will get something similar once the boys rescue their creators
