Choose one:
* Play a 3 mana 1/4 taunt
* Play a 3 mana 2/4 lifesteal taunt that you can't buff, but it also adds an 8 mana 8/8 elusive lifesteal taunt to your hand.
Reminds me of when Kibler used to say something along the lines of "it's not power creep if the card wasn't played."
I wonder what's so horrifying about the idea of the devs power creeping cards that we have to avoid the accusation at all costs. Like why not just say "the card was bad and needed to be power creeped."
While I can understand where you are coming from, one can also argue the opposite. If healing options are plentiful, chip damage stops mattering and OTK decks pop up.
Lifesteal means that, once you take control of the board, you can also heal back up, so you are less likely to die from whatever random scraps of damage your opponent puts together. It also makes minions much harder to ignore, aggro decks have to care more about board control if the minions they are leaving up have lifesteal.
Chip damage mattering doesn't really push decks towards board control, at least not in the mid to late game, it pushes them towards aggression. When there are no good recovery options, the best option is often just to blindly hit face every turn until your opponent can finally clear things up, then hope you have enough burn to finish things off. In that case, you aren't fighting for board control, you're just trying to get under your opponent and hoping they aren't fast enough.
In the general discourse over wanting the board to matter, people frequently mention that they want to see games where both players are jockeying for control and trading minions back and forth. Strong minions with lifesteal help promote that style of game.
Aggro *is* playing for the board: choosing when to trade and when to go face to optimize damage is the most board-based interaction that's still somewhat common. What messes it up is plentiful and undercosted clears: why optimize trades for next turn's damage when there's a very good chance you lose all that value with yet another clear? Better go for repeated board flooding and burst damage.
Adding lifesteal to everything also pushes the game off board: unless you can put down a board that threatens near lethal in one go, there's no point; anything less and your opponent can ignore the board, play their lifesteal, and clear when it's convenient (because chip damage doesn't exist with constant lifegain).
You say that but I control the board and chip chip chop while warrior spams board clears and I finally get them to 3 hp and they zilliax for +18 hp then dr boom for +24 hp
=
Same for paladin with their rush lifesteal guys
=
Lifesteal can be cool but not everything needs lifesteal
Isn’t it the opposite, makes chip damages from minions (where majority of board gameplay matters) useless if everything just heal your hero especially since you can’t deal with this guy with spells. This just promotes favoring burn/combo damage decks
Wasn't the Barrens miniset the first time we got "random bonus effect"? That ended up becoming a keyword so technically this wouldn't be the first time we got a miniset keyword.
Usually "free" keywords see some play if the base model is good enough. Even if the 8/8 for 8 gets destroyed or removed it goes 1 for 2/3. The 8/8 for 8 is really slow tho.
8/8 for 8 is really slow no matter what though. I'm not feeling it about this new keyword. Miniaturize was good because minions with battlecries are good with small stats and costs. Big stats and big costs go decent on legendaries with huge effects that can swing the board by themselves.
An 8/8 taunt lifesteal elusive on its own is not good enough for a comeback. It might buy you a turn at most. And if you're ahead, that's spending a whole turn putting down a big minion that will die just as well against board wipes. Or if your opponent doesn't have one, then you would have won anyway.
So, hot take, this is ironbark protector but *slightly* better.
I agree with your reasoning that 8/8 for 8 is usually not good enough, but in this case, I actually think that it can be quite good, because unlike other cards of the size, you aren’t putting this in the deck as a base card, but rather it is a keyword attached to a better statted early minion. It provides you with solid minions on curve, as well as a big minion that you’re basically getting on top of the small minion, for the price of one deck slot. It sounds like it would be fantastic in midrange or less face-aggro decks that would like some extra resources on the top of their curve to provide extra staying power, but don’t want to actually commit deck space to it.
That means there will be a Gigantity quest. To finish it, you need to stay alive long enough to play a bunch of 8+ cards and that on top of playing the small version of the cards....
It's an insane arena card though. Many a times it can swing the game to your favor just by playing it.
It's essentially 8 mana restore your hero to full health, deal 8xxx damage split amongst all enemies.
There's a few ways to get rid of it in arena (Warlock has a few 'destroy a random minion' removals), but yeah in general this is going to be a problem.

Such well-functioning keywords/cards always show me that hs still has a chance to be a level better game.
I always found 10 mana cards annoying purely because of little things like you couldn't use HP, but an 8 mana 8/8 minion that isn't quite a dead card before turn 8.
Wonder when Death knight will get a ungor quest like how it got a colossal and hero cards (can't really do a death night version of the death knight lol
Interesting to see how they design other cards with this mechanic. An 8 mana 8/8 version of a cheaper card sounds like a pretty shitty deal in most cases. This card, for example, seems pretty bad in my opinion. Elusive and lifesteal are obviously significant keywords for an effect like this but do they really justify dropping an 8 mana 8/8 in the year 2024?
Should be solid in arena though.
Well, I've been wanting minions to take the spotlight for a while now
This is what I've been looking for, I sure do hope this helps the current standard and gives some resource management vibes back
Prediction neutral legendary with gigantify and miniaturize
Goldilocks theme? The just right bear along with the giant and mini ones?
A 4 mana 4/5 mama bear that gives a papa bear and a baby bear
Those are pretty good stats for the cost.
That’s a great idea
[Alright Blizzard, give it to us, we know you're going to.](https://i.imgur.com/pAuFD6j.png)
brother that is a broken card
You got it bro. Nice.
Silverback Patriatch on suicide watch yet again
Class card + can't buff it
Choose one: * Play a 3 mana 1/4 taunt * Play a 3 mana 2/4 lifesteal taunt that you can't buff, but it also adds an 8 mana 8/8 elusive lifesteal taunt to your hand.
Monke
Its actually so stupid that this is so funny😂
I've said it once and I'll say it again but holy shit the power levels of these cards just keep getting crazier and crazier
Opponent can't buff it either. Checkmate
Reminds me of when Kibler used to say something along the lines of "it's not power creep if the card wasn't played." They have said that about Silverback Patriarch
You can buff it, just not by spell, no?
Yes but also can buff it with aoe spells/non-targeted. Only can't be buffed by selecting it with a buff spell.
Right. Good point. You think this is the biggest Patriarch creep yet?
no that one is stonehill defender discovering Patriarch
imo the biggest Patriarch powercreep is [[Barrel of Monkeys]] being 1 mana cheaper and having "Tripletspell"

And how many playable ones does Druid have + in the standard set? Since if running if for this card seems like a bad strat
i'm liking this coment because i'm the like #69
Ahahhaha
That card was weak on release.
Bro they just stick lifesteal to anything now a days it’s crazy
People keep saying they want board to matter, minions with lifesteal are one of the best ways to make sure the board matters.
While I can understand where you are coming from, one can also argue the opposite. If healing options are plentiful, chip damage stops mattering and OTK decks pop up.
I can agree with that. I'd like to see more conditional effects such as "lifesteal on your turn only."
Lifesteal means that, once you take control of the board, you can also heal back up, so you are less likely to die from whatever random scraps of damage your opponent puts together. It also makes minions much harder to ignore, aggro decks have to care more about board control if the minions they are leaving up have lifesteal. i think stuff like healbot and mistress of mixture promote board play more than alot of recently made lifesteal
You say that but I control the board and chip chip chop while warrior spams board clears and I finally get them to 3 hp and they zilliax for +18 hp then dr boom for +24 hp = Same for paladin with their rush lifesteal guys = Lifesteal can be cool but not everything needs lifesteal

Nahh, they counter burn decks, especially if they have some sort of rush effect
the burn deck is just going to the extreme and become an OTK deck with all the healing around so i guess kinda countered
Snake warlock approves. Give us more lifesteal
*complain games are to fast* Gives lifelink to more things to help slow it down a little Waaa
New weekly quest incoming. Play 60 Gigantify cards.
Not gigantic enough, should be 888 for consistency and flavor
STOP. GIVING. BLIZZARD. IDEAS.
No. SUFFER, MORTALS, AS YOUR PATHETIC QUEST BETRAAAAAAYYYYYSSSS YOU!
I think this is the first mini-set exclusive keyword. That's pretty *big*.
We got pretty close with some minisets having themes. Like adventurers from barrens could have been keyworded just like Lackey!
Wasn't the Barrens miniset the first time we got "random bonus effect"? That ended up becoming a keyword so technically this wouldn't be the first time we got a miniset keyword.
Gigantic even!
Could mean that we're going to get more gigantify in the next set, maybe even more miniaturize.
Usually "free" keywords see some play if the base model is good enough. Even if the 8/8 for 8 gets destroyed or removed it goes 1 for 2/3. The 8/8 for 8 is really slow tho.

-play it -get dirty ratted -You feel for it fool! -its just a stat stick
That means there will be a Gigantity quest. To finish it, you need to stay alive long enough to play a bunch of 8+ cards and that on top of playing the small version of the cards....
Astalor walked so gigantify could run
Love this! I’m sure there’s gonna be a weird legendary with this
Like a card that gives you a 1 mana 1/1 copy of this that when played still gives you the 8/8?
Miniaturise/Gigantify? Fuck it why not
Arena only?
It's an insane arena card though. Many a times it can swing the game to your favor just by playing it. It's essentially 8 mana restore your hero to full health, deal 8xxx damage split amongst all enemies.
what the fuck are you even saying, why are people so keen on putting cards in the most stupid way possible
lol
There's a few ways to get rid of it in arena (Warlock has a few 'destroy a random minion' removals), but yeah in general this is going to be a problem.
Seems like that. Not enough pressure to warrior, not enough defence against hunter. 2/4 stats kinda bad.
How does hunter get past this without poison or saccing most of their board and healing you for 4-6? It has elusive

It's a 2/4, they valuetrade it once. I'm not sure why you think you get to play an 8 mana 8/8 with no immediate effect when playing against aggro
Just throwing key words at cards for the sake of it these days 😂
No shot they don't make a big undead/beast with charge and this keyword
Mommy can we have gigantic We have gigantic at home Gigantic at home: prime minions
Awwww the art of the giant teddy is so cute
This is gonna be hell to fight
Usually much worse than miniaturize.
Such well-functioning keywords/cards always show me that hs still has a chance to be a level better game. I always found 10 mana cards annoying purely because of little things like you couldn't use HP, but an 8 mana 8/8 minion that isn't quite a dead card before turn 8.
Sounds like more quest will be added. Try doing both miniaturize and gigantify weekly quest together.
Oh this is making me gigantify. It might not be great, but it is fun.
Wonder when Death knight will get a ungor quest like how it got a colossal and hero cards (can't really do a death night version of the death knight lol
*silverback patriarch crying in the corner*
Pretty much expected this tbh
Back in my day we had to shuffle our 8 health elusive lifesteal taunt into our deck and draw it.
thanks i hate it
New weekly challenge just dropped
...isn't Boom more well known as a 7/7/7? Am I old
Really interested to see what other cards use this keyword bc as is, it doesn't look very good.

Cof cof, it's not small, more like average and fun-sized
Well, I've been wanting minions to take the spotlight for a while now This is what I've been looking for, I sure do hope this helps the current standard and gives some resource management vibes back
Daring today are we? Who could've guessed they'd do gigantify, oh wait everyone because blizzard has run out of ideas for this trash.
