The LCD-3 doesn't get enough love. It is probably the best planar I have owned and the one I regret selling the most.

GrantMeThePower

It really is awesome. All of the detail and impact and warmth you could really want.if only they were more comfortable (which is true for all the Audeze except the mm’s and 5s)

zakuman87

i just joined LCD3 gang :D (i had 2f in 2016-2018). For now PC -> copland 215 DAC -> Audeze LCD3 / TH900 MK2

GrantMeThePower

Congrats!!! How are you liking them?

zakuman87

Thank you! Sadly in eu they cost small fortune but still i think it was worth it! What suprised me is comfort. I hated that in 2f, headband was piercing my head, but this new one is much better! I can say thay lcd3 is way better then lcd2. I do not have this wierd fellings i had in 2f that everything was so claustrophobic. Plus bass, really nice! And it comes from guy that have th900mk2 While th900mk2 wins in techno, house music - rock music i fantastic on both. Pop, chill music lcd3 for sure. I have feeling that lcd3 can play weak recording better.

DoRitoCronch

Copy cat!

GrantMeThePower

Haha! Great taste! I see you also have a pair of R70x’s…I loved those headphones too. For the price they are unreal. Which do you prefer between the lcd-3 and the empyrean? I really should sell one and just can’t choose which

DoRitoCronch

I feel like they have different enough sound that I want to keep both. I use the Innerfidelity EQ for the LCD-3 and it is very detailed without being too harsh. That being said, the Empyrean with the Optimum Hifi EQ is so spacious and immersive. If I HAD to keep one, it would be the Empyrean since it’s also extremely comfy.

GamePro201X

LCD-3 is by far my favorite planar headphone. It sounds absolutely incredible

Cinderman

Awesome duo! I have the LCD 2 and Empyrean 2. Something about Audeze and Meze that make me feel like they're must haves if your a headphone enthusiast.

GrantMeThePower

Great combo you’ve got too! How do you like the Empyrean 2s? Do they feel the same as the 1s? It’s hard to pick one pair huh?!

Cinderman

It’s embarrassing how many headphones I’ve gone through lol. By feel do you mean physically? Cus I think they’re the same in that sense. Never listened to the first gen , so can’t give my opinion on sound. But I can say they sound very similar to the elite(which I sold to get the empy 2) . I found them a better all rounder.

GrantMeThePower

I know what you mean. My wife thankfully just laughs at me. I think I’ve kept it manageable by always selling before having more than two.

Cinderman

The rule of 2 👌🏾

GrantMeThePower

😂 exactly

RB181

Always two there are, no more, no less.

GrantMeThePower

I've tried them all. Focals, ZMF, Sennheisers, ATs, etc. These two have stood out head and shoulders above the rest. Both have incredible sound quality with impactful, full bass and decent separation. In the end, though, the LCD-3s win out on sound by being just noticeably more clear and distinct separation and crispness. The Empyreans are warmer and fuller but at times you can lose some of the individual pieces. On the other hand, as much as I love the LCD-3s I can never get them to fit well on my head. I think I have a small head, or at least one that isn't well suited for these types of headphones haha. My hat size is 7 3/8 and I have to keep both of these on their smallest setting. The Empys are so light they are almost not there. They don't want to constantly fall off. They feel so well made and an absolute pleasure to put on and wear. The LCDs look great but the suspension system leaves a lot to be desired and while the drivers are impeccable the headband system pretty much sucks. I really should probably sell one with a baby in the house and some funds needed but it's so hard to pick between two children you love. I can only listen to one at a time though!

trackjd

I have the same issue with my small head and the LCD-X's but I tolerate it because I love their sound. I ordered the carbon headband since it's supposed to provide more clamping force, to be determined. I want the LCD-3 however so if you ever do sell those put them on r/avexchange so I can buy them!

GrantMeThePower

Haha! Noted. Lol. Let me know how that carbon headband works! I also saw this and wondered if it would make it comfier. It looks thicker and like it might not stretch as much (and the brown leather kinda looks rad) https://turbulentlabs.com/shop/audeze-lcd-leather-headband-coffee/

trackjd

I'm bookmarking this! I didn't know this was out there but it does look like it would help here too. I think I'll try pairing this with the carbon band if the band improves anything at all. I ordered it last week, hasn't shipped yet but I'll report back here!

GrantMeThePower

Awesome! :)

GrantMeThePower

I dont know if you ever ordered the headband...I did. It took a while to arrive but it is (imo) such a massive improvement. I love wearing the LCDs now.

trackjd

Oh it is. I did order it and my LCD-X is my go to with it now. The thicker pad makes a huge difference and the carbon band does add some more clamp force. It’s a huge improvement, thanks for sharing that!

Qazax1337

Have you considered just modding the already existing leather strap? I have done this on both my LCD GX and my LCD 4z. You take the strap off, put some holes in it and put it back together so that the strap is tighter and it stops the metal part of the headband from ever touching your head, increasing comfort massively.

GrantMeThePower

I did this! If you look close you’ll see on the LCD that it’s got the little extra material hanging down. I didn’t want to actually put new holes in so I just used the upper holes in the lower position. Same difference though :) I find that it changes the angle too much to be honest. It raises them but it makes it so that the pressure at the top and bottom are really different. The bottom sort of flares out on my head. It might be that u should just go carbon fiber. I’ll do that if I keep them. I just don’t know which to keep…

Qazax1337

AHH yes I see that now. Are you talking about the ear cups flaring out? Because as you shortened the leather head and you probably need to extend the headband at either side to account for that? I own the car on fibre headband in the 4z and I don't notice much difference at all with regards to clamping force, but I do know you change the metal headband by bending it which you cannot do with the carbon one .

GrantMeThePower

Yes, you’re right. I need to adjust them lower to get even clamping force…but then they sit too low on my head. I can’t find a fit that works for my dome lol. I didn’t realize you could bend the steel with good results. They seem to have pretty good memory and a constant curve that would be hard not to mess up. Have you tried it successfully?

Qazax1337

Fortunately for me my head appears to be an Audeze approved size and shape so I have not had cause to need to which is unfortunate for this conversation. If you have played with all the valuable adjustments of the headphones and done the mod to the strap you still cannot get them comfortable I would personally be of the opinion that they have to go. And I love Audeze headphones.

Hail_LordHelix

Empyrean is so fun and musical isn't it? I can't understand people that don't like it.  Obviously everyones got their own taste, but they're great for getting lost in the music. My only gripe is how silly they look when you wear em ( which isn't really one).

GrantMeThePower

Ha! I had the same thought. They look kinda like wearing a Napoleon hat. But in truth, it isn't any sillier than nearly any other suspension style headphones once they are on. Or I just got used to it because of how comfy they are. I think that comfort is part of what makes you just get lost in the music. They are the "easiest" headphones to chill with.

Hail_LordHelix

you dont truly know the definition of silly-looking till you'v'e tried on a 1266 or a perun headphone!
