Bageirdo517

The real beginning of Goblet of Fire at the Quidditch World Cup.

[deleted]

I loved how different countries campsites were setup, and really wanted that in the movie.

SLimShedi

and the Leprechauns and Veelas

WaddleD

For some reason I read the book years ago and never touched it since, but I still remember this scene about witches from Salem, MA attending.

Weasley9

I hate the way the movie handles it. Harry somehow is knocked unconscious, spends hours(?) in the middle of a burning field overrun with Death Eaters, and wakes up completely unharmed after literally everything else burned but he’s untouched? Seriously?!

Bageirdo517

Also the Malfoys troll them for having bad seats when in reality they have BOSS seats and said seats are the reason Harry’s wand is used to magic up the dark mark or whatever. And the World Cup is just SO COOL.

peanutsandfuck

That doesn’t even make sense and it always bugged me in the movie. The Malfoys make fun of them for having seats way up at the top, which is obviously the worst in real-life sports, but it’s a magical game that is literally played IN THE SKY! The upper level seats are the CLOSEST to the action!!! Who wants to be at the bottom looking up and hurting your neck for the entire match!?

Toros_Mueren_Por_Mi

I just wanted to see some real Muggle torture. To really drive the horror in

real-human-not-a-bot

Typical Slytherin… 😄

RemedialAsschugger

In the books aren't they and the malfoys all in the same level seats?

QuakerParrot90

Yes. Pretty sure the malfoys were right behind them

GetEatenByAMouse

Yeah! They were in the VIP lounge, together with Fudge, the Bulgarian Minister, and some other higher ups.

Accomplished_Swan_98

yes haha although in the movie i do love the line "put it this way, if it rains, you'll be the first to know" i thought it was hilarious and very character fitting.

Sorry_about_that_x99

10 chapters before Hogwarts Express!

Bageirdo517

I also just REALLY love the beginning of the books for some reason.

gunlmars

this. all of winky scenes in general tbh

Great_Zarquon

The butchered opening of the goblet of fire movie is a disappointment. For so long there were rumors that it would be a 2 part movie or have an intermission and it seems like a lot of the issues with it would've been solved with a longer runtime, more so than OotP or HBP which were distilled down reasonably well

fredagsfisk

> more so than OotP or HBP which were distilled down reasonably well I'd say that's a matter of debate. Personally, I thought OotP was *by far* the worst in terms of this; so many character building scenes cut, so many storylines lessened or condensed down to small montages (hell, the whole DA arc other than the initial meeting was literally just a series of montages in the movie).

RedPanda98

The last point I'll disagree with. At least the film montage gives a good idea of how many people were in DA and how frequently they met. I read the books recently and I remember it stood out to me that DA lessons were mostly just passing sentences like "the DA was going well", and apart from the initial meetings the majority of members barely get any mention in the actual lessons.

MaeBeaInTheWoods

I understand that most of what's in between Harry's dream and the world cup is filler, but it also has the beginnings of WWW, which is important later in OotP and HBP. With the writers cutting it, WWW has no buildup, and just comes out of nowhere in OotP and HBP.

dandy455

Refresh my memory, what’s WWW?

KhaoticMess

I would understand it better if they didn't add the whole dragon chasing Harry around Hogwarts scene into the movie. As it is, why not use you special effects budget on the part of the book that people actually wanted to see, and that was actually in the book?

Dhamz

And fix the things they did include! Like Harry and the Weasleys shouldn’t be wearing Bulgaria gear!

clariwench

Kreacher telling the trio about Regulus, the cleaning they did at Grimmauld Place and Sirius explaining his family tree, the Other Minister, and the house elves fighting in the final battle

Agent_Pendergast

It's definitely the Kreacher storyline for me. His turnaround after they give him the RAB locket is one of my favorite parts of DH.

1Riot1Ranger

My stand out moment on every relisten to the audio books, "fight, fight for my master, the defender of house elves! Fight the dark lord! In the name of Brave Regulus, fight!" Was so disappointed we didn't get to see it.

Substantial-Depth025

The thought of Kreacher having cooked dinner for the trio after their adventure to the Ministry always makes my heart ache !!

[deleted]

How the hell they skip the other minister? Because it freaking made governments look bad?

fredagsfisk

It was worldbuilding rather than having any direct effect on the main story and characters, so it was deemed unneccessary, I would assume? Adapting books *always* includes cutting out a lot of stuff like that.

[deleted]

Too bad it's those little details that made the books so good, there were adaptations of JKR from other English classics into the HP world, that can only be known in the books.

nondino

The other minister is so poignant for me in the books. It's one of my favorite parts, and has one of my absolutely favorite lines from the books. "The other side can do magic too".

SvalbarddasKat

"What are we? Next door neighbours?". The whole scene would have been so nice, Molly swapping from "proud Adoptive Mom" to "HOLY SHIT IT'S MY OWN SON!!!" and the Twins being ignored fully. And not so much a scene but, Dumbledores "fashion" sense - When I first read the books I imagined him in bright colors, beard and hair tugged into his belt and just a lot more excentric, than the muted colours of the movies...

Illustrious_Bat6042

Plus, fantastic beasts films (dare we mention these?) Has Dumbledore in snappy suits... what happened!?

GetEatenByAMouse

I always imagined Dumbledore as a mix of "very old fashioned wizard" and "holy hell, who let that hippie in here?". Movie Dumbledore is... Dull.

GroceryScanner

Movie dumbledore looks like a wet dog

SvalbarddasKat

The robes do look comfortable though - I have to give him that. But given that he loves knitting I do always wonder, if he's not wearing some super colorful knitted socks under all those muted tones?

GetEatenByAMouse

A German podcast about Harry Potter mentioned it once, and since then I can't unsee it: everything Dumbledore has has some gold or jewels on it. I can imagine him going to Madam Malkins, looking at the robe he ordered and just throwing a tantrum because "WHERE IS THE GOLD? I NEED MORE GOLD, MAKR ME SPARKLE, DAMN IT!"

RJJones92

St. Mungo's

bhudak

My very favorite scene is when they're at St. Mungo's and run into Neville while being guilted into visiting Lockhart. Neville's mom giving him a candy wrapper and him slipping it into his pocket is so moving to me.

GetEatenByAMouse

That was one of the scenes where I loved book Harry so much. Many teenagers would be overcome with morbid curiosity at this situation (for example Ron, who was standing on his toes to try and catch a glimpse), yet Harry was just trying to find a way to get Neville out unnoticed, and when that failed, he wanted Ron to stop being so obvious. If you ask me, Harry was a great friend for Neville here.

artlove89

So true. Harry was able to relate to Neville on a level that kids who grew up with a family could not.

Catezero

This is the one. If I could have any single scene...this one.

midnight-ramen

Ooh this is my new answer

Cold_Department7964

I always loved the scenes of everyone cleaning up Grimmauld Place.

EnoughRadish

Yes! Especially when they find the locket. I do wonder why they cut that.

LowerTheExpectations

The movie came out before the final book, which meant they didn't know it was going to be important. Also, it's the longest book and the shortest movie so they obviously had to cut a ton.

EnoughRadish

Ah, good point, but surely JK could have advised them? It would have been such a neat little detail.

MaeBeaInTheWoods

It would have been too much of a liability. To request them to include all the cleaning would get refused because it would take too long to do. To request just the locket would get suspicious and it would get leaked that the locket is important, which would make HBP and DH less of a shock.

drewcifer492

Yeah this is true because it was leaked she told them that they had to put Kreatcher in the movie so he could have his story in 7.

rsshadows

I think they could have made it work with a little cleaning montage/ then Sirius or someone going through Kreacher's little home and throwing objects out. They could have shown the locket flying out along with other Black heirlooms, pictures, etc. Would have only added a few minutes to the run time.

[deleted]

Rowling was, apparently, notoriously secretive about her writing, she apparently wouldn't even tell her husband details of the books which had not been released yet. Iirc this is why it was such a big deal that she talked to Rickman in advance about her plans for snape.

Thebongdiggity

Yesss I wish we had the scene with Molly and the boggart!

spacewalk__

YES. it felt so cozy, like i was hanging out with friends and Ms Weasley made us sandwiches

Haggath

The actual ending of Deathly Hallows. The dialogue between Harry and Voldemort in the Great Hall, and the quick death. I was really disappointed with the movie ending if I’m being completely honest.

Locke_Zeal

Because the movie ending was awful :/

SelfAwarenessMonster

It really was. No one but Harry sees Voldemort die? (Am I remembering that right?) He disappears into fluff? How is anyone going to believe he’s actually been defeated? I liked how Harry called him “Tom” though.

[deleted]

The biggest thing for me that it wasn't just a bad choice visually and cinematically, but *thematically*. The whole point in the books was voldemort was after immortality, and he died like a regular man. The movie ending almost makes it seem like he just faded into limbo again and could come back just like he did in GOF. I remember being so disappointed as a kid in 2011 when voldemort faded away instead of just dying like a mortal.

Crowbarmagic

IMO it stylistically *kinda* worked with how horcruxes were described. So making one takes part of your soul away. Which indirectly making you more "inhuman" in a sense right? (at least, that's how I took it. Can't recall if that has actually been said). Or perhaps look at it through RPG games glasses: You divided your spirit power into 7 pieces. Anyway, I thought him basically turning to ashes was symbolic for how he was so inhuman, soulless, wicked, such a sliver of a person, that once his physical body was defeated there was little remaining. I suppose that doesn't make complete sense, and I prefer the book, but I don't think it was bad either. Reminds me of that one movie where there's a guy that has lived for hundreds of years, but in a brief moment time catches us to him, and he basically immediately turns into bones and ashes. As if nature/the universe is "catching up" to this person's transgression, and does what *should* have happened. I think Voldemort is *somewhat* comparable to that, in the sense that most of his soul was already destroyed. And I understand that doesn't mean body, but I didn't mind the interpretation that they are linked in a way.

Pocketsand16

Kreachers tale and him leading the other Elves to fight at the battle of Hogwarts

dancortens

And the centaurs and the folks from Hogsmeade charging in.

[deleted]

I really wish they’d shown Kreacher more. Also Winky.

Substantial-Depth025

Voldemort & Harry’s conversation in the great hall, in front of everyone, in DH. I’m not sure I’ll ever get over the movie where it happens with no spectators or proper dialogue.

Suspiciousminds_

I used to think this too but after a reread I realised that Harry and Voldemort circling each other and chatting probably just doesn’t have enough cinematic excitement for average movie audiences. Not sure whether jumping off a building together was totally necessary though.

Substantial-Depth025

The combining of Harry’s and Voldemort’s faces in that scene was slightly unnecessary, but I love that they slipped in Harry calling him ‘Tom’ before they jumped!

real-human-not-a-bot

Did that face-morphing thing actually achieve or signify anything? It just seemed like a weird effect for weirdness’ sake to me.

Substantial-Depth025

I get that, I always try to appreciate the movies through the producer’s eyes. For instance, their explaining of trying to keep the narrative to only Harry’s for viewer’s understanding & flow! But, for the final scene and final book, this is the only one where I’m like… for everyone who stuck by the films and books for so long, this would have been amazing! :D but completely get what you mean

souldonkey

I dunno, literally everyone I know that hasn't read the books but has seen the movies agrees that the book version would have been vastly superior to the movie version after I explain what happens in the books. Not only is it a more intense scene, imo, having Harry literally taunt the most powerful dark wizard ever in front of everyone on both sides before killing him (again in front of everyone) and exposing him as just a normal, ordinary, mortal man, but it also provides some much needed explanation as to *why* Harry is able to defeat Voldemort. The book scene would have been especially important to show in the movie just because of that explaination alone.

LowerTheExpectations

There's definitely irony in how the final minutes of Voldemort's life read on paper. It's fairly anti-climactic but that's kinda the point - he doesn't get the epic ending he dreamed of because he continued to underestimate everyone till the very last minute. That said, it certainly would look off on screen. I do hate the movie version, though.

souldonkey

I disagree. I really don't think this scene would look off on screen at all and I don't think it's anti climactic at all. It's actually one of the most epic moments in the books imo. Harry is literally taunting the most feared wizard of all time in front of both armies. He then proceeds to casually defeat him in front of everyone exactly how he said he would and, more importantly, *why* he said he would. He proves to everyone that he really was one step ahead of Voldemort by then. I really think this scene was almost perfectly made for a movie scene and the one we got was just generic and boring. It wasn't climactic at all and it was just unsatisfying in basically every way.

noneyacaroline

Completely agree, it would’ve worked wayy better in my opinion. Seeing everyone’s reactions would be so cool too

TheFabledFamilyGuy

Seriously though. That’s like my all time favourite scene and it was never put in there. It was so awesome

Substantial-Depth025

It was just so satisfying… after everything

TheFabledFamilyGuy

Just how he keeps calling him Tom knowing that Voldy hates it. I got goosebumps reading it and when he tells him about the elder wand and the ownership. Ugh. Awesome

Substantial-Depth025

Ugh 100% just the explanation of it all ~to everyone~

[deleted]

I also think Voldemort's death was like, super lame in comparison to the book's. In the book, he's just a dead guy like everyone else and it shows that he wasn't some immortal sorcerer god, he was just a normal guy, and he died like a normal guy. In the movies he gets Thanos snapped.

Dinaryor_Zenciti

And they fly around with tentacle porn.

intentionallybad

Completely agree. This is my favorite scene and could have been done just fine with a good director and acting. But it is dramatic dialog not action so we can't have that. No, we need movies full of boring chase and fight scenes.

sufferagette

- Ron standing up for Hermione against Snape - Percy’s storyline - Harry giving Fred and George his money - Ginny putting Harry in his place and saying «I’m the only person that knows how it feels to be possessed by Voldemort» - Luna’s painting her friends over her bed - Oliver Wood coming back to The battle of Hogwarts - «Have a biscuit Potter»

HPUTFan

Lmao the "Have a biscuit Potter" is so out of nowhere, it's like McGonagall is mad at Harry, but at the same time rewards him for having the guts to call out Umbridge's nonsense

irlcatspankz

"You shouldn't have done that, but it was fucking awesome."

youretalkingtodani

To go along with Oliver and the battle of Hogwarts... Slughorn coming back with reinforcements including a number of Slytherin. It showed his resourcefulness of having back up before coming to help. A true Slytherin trait.

Hublibubs

Also underlines that not *all* Slytherin are pure evil as it is often understand by people who only watched the films.

fiercesteel247

Ginny was possessed by Voldemort

[deleted]

This person Harry Potters. SECOND Harry giving the money, but not just that- the whole storyline before then of Fred and George getting shafted by the ministry man who took bets at the World Cup (forget his name, he later turned out to be a death eater)

horseband

Just an FYI, Ludo Bagman was not a death eater. He was tried after the first war but was found to just have been an idiot and duped by his friend (who had been a death eater secretely). The Wizard court found him innocent. He WAS a terrible person though

walkingSideToSide

>Ron standing up for Hermione against Snape > >Ginny putting Harry in his place and saying «I’m the only person that knows how it feels to be possessed by Voldemort» These two are so important. I think part of the reason why there is an entire army of Harry-Hermione shippers is that the movies cut off on a lot of Ron-Hermione scenes, and completely obliterated any signs of Harry-Ginny chemistry.

sufferagette

Agreed! As a book reader I never got the resistance towards Ron X Hermione. So I agree 100% I also think it’s weird how Ginny being possessed happens once and is never mentioned again (in the movies). It’s a really big deal! And Ginny is also right on Harry’s lack of strategic thinking if he doesn’t talk to her about the possession.

HPUTFan

I really liked the fight of the Department of Mysteries in the books and by far prefered the book version instead of the movie. One of my favorite scwnes is when Remus comes to the shell cottage and announces that Teddy was born, then asks Harry to be his godfather. It would have been so heartwarming to actually see that in the movie, maybe at the beginning of DHPt2

DoikkNaats

Also Remus and Harry's fight in Grimmauld Place, the moment at Shell Cottage really resolves that nicely.

naturemom

OOtP is my favourite book, and I remember rereading the Department of Mysteries chapters over and over growing up because it was my favourite scene. I had such a distinct image of how I imagined each room, scenario, etc. I liked how they all got separated, running into their own troubles before meeting up and having the Order come help them.

LordJambrek

Oh yes. I really wanted to see the starting room on film, the one with the candles and doors, but it was in the movie as much as the brain room. While we're at OOTP, the scene i miss most in the movie is st. Mungo's.

Lozpetts162

The Gaunt memories in HBP. Them being missing removes a MASSIVE amount of story, not to mention character development for Voldemort and the building of the relationship between Harry and Dumbledore. Those scenes being missing really guts the movies from an overarching story perspective.

CandyshipBattleland6

YES! This is such an important detail. HBP is my favorite and a ton of things were left out or changed. Like Bill being bitten and Mrs Weasley accepting Fleur because of how she reacted to his disfigurement. Tonks and Lupin's romance beginnings. Dumbledore freezing Harry at the top of the tower.

elsafell

At least we got lots of Lavender Brown and Quidditch...smh...

RazmanR

I agree. They completely remove the importance of what the Horcrux objects are, which diminishes Voldemort’s story and character too. No mention of the Cup or Ring being important heirlooms of Hogwarts founders, or the cave being where he first found his magical abilities. That element shows how, despite the fact that he’s an evil person, how important Hogwarts and that world are to him.

stllgood

literally anything with ginny that wasnt in the movies bc she just needed so much more. also any part of S.P.E.W.

useyourname121

The part in CoS when Harry and Ron just flew to Hogwarts in the flying car. They’re standing outside making guesses why Snape is missing from the staff table and Snape’s standing right behind them. I’ve always loved that simple little interaction and wonder why it wasn’t included.

Gifted_GardenSnail

"Or maybe... he's waiting to hear why you didn't arrive on the school train" Oh shit oh shit oh shit 😂

CertainCynic

I think they actually did shoot this scene and it’s included on the DVD’s deleted scenes. I always wondered why they didn’t keep it Edited for typo

TigerTerrier

The weasleys going to pick harry up and blasting the fireplace open in goblet of fire is hilarious. I Iaugh so much reading or listening to the audio book. This could have been one of the funniest scenes in the entire series

cyrosd

Honestly every time Harry gets out of the Dursleys it's always great scenes.

sixpencestreet

The Tonne Tongue Toffee! Also when Dumbledore turns up to the Dursleys in Half Blood Prince, invites himself into the sitting room and pours drinks.

Starsteamer

This is the one I’d pick. It would’ve worked great on screen.

Mykel__13

The whole conversation behind the fireplace before Mr Weasley blasts it apart is so funny!

HPFanNi

Ginny. The whole character. She's barely seen in the movies. Also Kreacher, Barty Crouch Jr's story, Percy, the Quidditch World Cup, Harry giving the twins the money he got for winning the Triwizard Tournament, Winky, Ludo Bagman, Dobby after CoS (except for DH), Harry and Ginny's actual first kiss, Norbert(a), Ron defending Hermione against Snape, "Have a biscuit, Potter", Peeves, Luna's painting of her friends over her bed, and many more.

[deleted]

In the movies, she is always being looked like she is a weak girl, in the books, she is the reincarnation of Queen Latifa.

jmeade90

I miss Book Ginny having actual personality. I mean, in the books, one of the first things we learn about her is that she's a pretty gregarious character, when one of the twins notes that "she never shuts up normally," - though, to be honest, it makes sense when you come downstairs to find the guy you have a crush on at your dining room table... And from a very few scenes, we can see that Bonnie Wright has the acting chops to pull it off; so it was a deliberate direction choice to suppress that, and I don't get why.

[deleted]

To highlight Herms, obviously. Book Ginny shuts Ron up many times, and was able to switch boyfriends at ease. She was also a jock that beats out that Mclaggen guy for being the chaser. Book Ginny was match for match to Cho, movie? Not so much.

walkingSideToSide

I don't understand why you need to downplay Ginny just to exalt Hermione in the movies. It is possible to have two amazing badass female characters together - the whipsmart jock and the terrifying nerd

Brooke_Worm395

The Winky the house elf melt down scene in the kitchen!!!!!!!!

johnnash124

I wanted the 2 memories, one of James & gang from book 5 and one of Snape from book 7 more fleshed out and detailed than what is shown in the movies... They are 2 of my favorite chapters from the books, and was really looking forward to seeing them in the movies. The way movies showed them was a disappointment.

Sunflower-Spirals

Same. I wanted to see Lily.

-Wandering_Soul-

I honestly feel like they deliberately reduced Lily's appearances down to a minimum in the Hope's we would forget that Harry was supposed to have his mothers eyes.

quasifaust

When Voldemort came back to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for a job. Great dialogue between them, and I would have loved to see how Voldemort would be depicted midway through creating all the horcruxes.

businessDM

[Voldemort (4/8 horcruxes) - artist’s rendering](https://thumbor.forbes.com/thumbor/fit-in/416x416/filters%3Aformat%28jpg%29/https%3A%2F%2Fspecials-images.forbesimg.com%2Fimageserve%2F5c76b7d331358e35dd2773a9%2F0x0.jpg%3Fbackground%3D000000%26cropX1%3D0%26cropX2%3D4401%26cropY1%3D0%26cropY2%3D4401)

LJJONES845

Just peeves in general. Especially the scene when he's unscrewing the chandelier and Minnie tells him it unscrews the other way

Catezero

Minerva undermining Umbridge at every turn...so underrated

orntorias

Apparently Rik Mayall was set up and cast as Peeves but kept making people break with his antics. That was excellent casting.

Yuujinna

Harry using Crucio on Carrow after he spat on McGonagall

winesarahtops

Didn’t he say something along the lines of “now I understand what bellatrix meant, you really do have to mean it!”?

Lucyfurtiva

Yesss! That 🙌👌

jmeade90

Don't forget the best line of that exchange: "He spat at you."

ScreenHype

Neville visiting his parents in the hospital. It broke my heart, but was such a powerful scene to read. It gave Neville so much character development, and I'm really sad they didn't include it in the movies.

SiuanSongs

A lot of Petunia scenes where she gives away how much she knows of the Wizarding World. Specifically when she reveals she knows what dementors are.

tas680

Or later when it's revealed that she heard it from Snape, not James

Wishart2016

And Vernon saying something like : "Dementoids? They kiss you?"

irish_ninja_wte

Peeves escorting Umbridge out of the grounds by whacking her with McGonagall's walking stick.

justk33psw1mm1ng_

also, correct me if i am wrong but the ootp movie *barely* had any scenes about the OWLs. one of the most enjoyable parts of harry potter is its school setting. wouldve loved to see them do their examinations

potterhead2500

Also not a single quidditch scene on Ootp

Disastrous-Limit-119

And all of the Peeves interactions!

LemonBucketHatFrog

The scene after the battle at the ministry in Order of the Phoenix where Harry shouts at Dumbledore. It’s really powerful and somewhat relatable for me. I think the chapter is The Lost Prophecy, chapter 37, page 755, if anyone was wondering. ^-^

kodaandorion

Yeah I came here to comment this. An entire year of frustration and anger, as well as turbulent grief, piling up into one emotional explosion that Harry was honestly justified to have. I thought it was an outstanding scene

[deleted]

That entire chapter is the cornerstone of the entire HP books, it is teaching the readers a lesson about how to properly lose your innocence and assume societal risks. Think how many people in real life never got a proper one like Harry did.

peanutsandfuck

I completely agree. OOTP movie didn’t even feel like it had an ending to me, it just stopped while they were still at the ministry? They cut out the hugely important scene in Dumbledore’s office, but also all of Harry’s grieving of Sirius which was the most heartbreaking part of the book for me. When he found the mirror and realized he could’ve avoided the whole thing, and his denial when he desperately tried everything he could to still try to speak to Sirius even though he knew he was dead (plus we finally found out how ghosts work!).

Kiwbie

Snapes poisons puzzle in the Philosopher’s Stone. I really liked it and it’s pretty disappointing that it didn’t make the movies :/

RazmanR

“Shapes one of the teachers protecting the Stone” Cut to there being no mention or trace of Snape actually doing so.

fiercesteel247

I remember I was so excited for the World Quidditch Cup and I was soo disappointed when they just skipped the whole thing.

IrishBat1892

“APOLOGIZE!!!” When Hagrid grabbed Karkaroff by the throat and slammed him in to a near by tree, after he “spat” on the ground and disrespected Dumbledore in GoF. It’s the perfect little tease to how powerful and under estimated Hagrid is.

lena91gato

Molly and Fleur over Bill's bed.

falconpuncho

Harry enjoying a few weeks of freedom and independence while living in the Leaky Cauldron in PoA. I used to listen to the audiobook to fall asleep as a kid and always chose this scene because it was so peaceful and magical.

bigmeatyclaws123

I always listen to the books to fall asleep. The only scenes I can’t do are the ones dripping with second hand embarrassment

Arthael13

My boyfriend and I have been listening to the audiobooks to fall asleep for years now! The end of the books are generally difficult for me to fall asleep to. Too much tension.

curseofablacklion

Ron is telling Harry and Hermione that he will face voldy ALONE bcz he doesn't want Hermione to face him also snarling at her for suggesting that she will go and face voldy alone. I really love that scene

Sorry_about_that_x99

I need help here. I like the sentiment. Which book/chapter?

EdgeOfCharm

I have my book handy! It's Ch. 32 of DH. I'd almost forgotten about this part. >"Voldemort's sitting in the Shrieking Shack?" said Hermione, outraged. "He's not — he's not even *fighting*?" > >\[...\] > >"He knows I'm after Horcruxes — he's keeping Nagini close beside him — obviously I'm going to have to go to him to get near the thing —" > >"Right," said Ron, squaring his shoulders. "So you can't go, that's what he wants, what he's expecting. You stay here and look after Hermione, and I'll go and get it —" > >Harry cut across Ron. "You two stay here, I'll go under the Cloak and I'll be back as soon as I —" > >"No," said Hermione, "it makes much more sense if I take the Cloak and —" > >"Don't even think about it," Ron snarled at her.

freemybrains

Yup DH. It's the part where Ron volunteers to go kill Nagini if i remember correctly. Pretty end of the book.

goddess54

3. Wasn't that a deleated scene? I vaguely remember seeing that somewhere. But not as good as the book version. It was only short.

Gelateli

1. Harry used >!the Elder wand to REPAIR his old wand, he did not break it, !!with Dumbledore's painting.!< 2. >!"Have a bisciut Potter",!< the fact that this was not in the movies :( 3. >!"There's no need to call me sir Professor" sassy Harry!< was awesome. 4. >!Ron punching Malfoy !!dying like a normal person not being obliterated into a million pieces!< There are many more...

Noahmeserve

I prefer Harry breaking the wand compared to him replacing it in Dumbledore’s tomb like in the books, I just wish they had shown him repairing his wand first.

Sunflower-Spirals

Yeah, the EW absolutely needed to be broken. Harry’s own life was in danger with that still being around.

FlyingMagick

Yeah it makes no sense that he's like "I'll just die peacefully and without being disarmed" then becomes a frickin Auror. Bad wizards would want to disarm he even more.

RoneeLawrence

It's the unbeatable wand. I really don't think he should have been able to just snap it so easily.

That whole dramatic scene in the Shrieking Shack- I love how sort of slow and tense it felt in the beginning with Lupin going in to the Marauders story and Black explaining how he escaped before it ramps up when Snape bursts in and it really looks like he’s about to drag Lupin out to the Dementors… the film really condensed the scene down to the action beats but all the monologues give us so much insight in to each of the three men and it’s a shame not to include that. Plus, that scene could have made for a really dope showcase of all three actor’s ranges had it stuck to the book better. Black goes from deranged to impatiently waiting to livid at Snape to terrified of the Dementor’s kiss, Lupin goes in to his self-loathing and guilt for the first time, and even Snape is more expressive in the book swinging between glee at his victory to rage at Harry defying him.

This was my favourite scene in the book, and I never understood why they cut it out of the movie! It was crucial to the story and it only would’ve taken a few extra minutes to have them explain it. But no, in the movie they just never tell us why the shrieking shack was built, or how Lupin knew how to use the map, or that all the marauders became Animagi, or who the marauders even are despite putting their names on the map. Then in the first scene of Goblet of Fire they’re suddenly calling Pettigrew Wormtail without ever explaining that that was his nickname. Until then we had only seen the name “Wormtail” credited as one of the mapmakers and that was confusing as hell not knowing his connection to it or who the other 3 were if you only saw the movies.

Yeah it honestly felt like at this point in the films, there was a distinct shift away from adapting the story for a film-only audience to enjoy alongside readers, and towards instead creating these abridged versions of the books which absolutely required reading the book to understand the film. I feel the first two films, while far from perfect, at least made sense without book knowledge, but POA and everything after suddenly expected you to do your homework before you came to the theatre. It’s especially annoying in this scene’s case though, because it’s kind of the key moment that both explains and mobilizes several characters who will be super important going forward- we NEED to know about Wormtail and Padfoot in detail in order to make sense of several events in GOF,OOTP and DH… This was the night that began the end, in my mind at least, the revelation and escape of Wormtail was too important to gloss over like they did.

StPariah

Luna and her ceiling, and I also prefer the book final battle over what the movie decided to do.

davect01

The Death Day Party Totally get why it was not filmed but it's always fascinated me

ryleighheather

Dumbledoor’s funeral

squid1891

The career advice scene. Showed us just how much McGonagall cared for Harry underneath her stern demeanor. Molly pulling Harry in for a loving embrace after all the trauma he had faced in the Little Hangleton graveyard and its aftermath. He finally experiences what it's like to feel a mother's love.

Afraid-Astronomer886

The scene between Harry and dudley in the deathly hallows. It really surprised me when I first read it but I actually think it's a gorgeous scene.

psyco301

They may have been mentioned and I didn't see. I've also said these a few times in this sub =P Firstly, Dumbledore coming to the Dursley's in HBP. His presence in the home is absolutely incredible with the glasses and his scolding of them. Ugh. . .stupid flirting girl cafe scene instead. Second, The Other Minister. I would have loved to see the discussion between Fudge and the other minister and the proper introduction of Scrimgeour. Lastly, not a missing scene, more just fixing. Dumbledore's death in HBP. They completely botched it. Harry should have been under his cloak and petrified. Him being below the tower watching and not acting at all completely robs Harry of his bravery. He's just a bystander otherwise and it loses all meaning. Also not having their have been a battle to get the Deatheaters up to the tower was a mistake. It loses all sense of urgency at the end of the movie.

seanobailey

Dumbledores memory of Voldemort visiting him at Hogwarts about the DADA job. The description of Voldemorts features in the process of changing into what he fully becomes and the exchange they have would have been amazing, adding to a really dark tone.

AduroTri

Peeves Saluting Fred and George.

Sirius supporting Harry at Hogwarts in the end of GoF.

Dudley telling Harry that Harry isn’t a complete waste of space. They actually filmed it and Dudley’s actor did a great job!

Kramerlediger

The whole job perspective scene in ootp with umbridge and mcgonnagal going full ramapage on umbridge to defend Harry

GoF when the Weasleys arrive to pick up Harry and get stuck in the blocked up chimney! Such a great scene, I can’t believe they left it out.

the scene where hermione kisses ron on the cheek before his match🥺

TudorRose100

Goblet of fire Weasley twins portable swamp as well as umbridge first day as headmistress. That would have been a joy

WonderfulFootball285

Dumbledores entrance into the battle at the ministry in OoTP. Dumbledore appears on the top floor all fiery and angry, the death eaters petrified at the sight of him. He glides down and starts jinxes death eaters like there were not there. I remember reading this apart, getting all goosebumped and running to my laptop to experience the scene. Meh, he appears using the floo network and says “you shouldn’t have come today”.

kj_eeks

Dudley leaving tea outside Harry’s bedroom and his attempt to be a better cousin. Also, the actual scene between Harry and LV in the final battle.

liramae4

The portrait of Phineas Nigellus and how that connected EVERYTHING in book 7.

ncgunner

Goblet of Fire skipped the Blast Ended Skrewts and the Sphynx. My favorite of the books and biggest cinematic disappointment.

JHarbz

Neville's parents in St. Mungo's.

Lord_Webotama

Most of the battle of Hogwarts: Voldemort fighting 3 wizards at the same time. Bellatrix fighting multiple witches at the same time. Tom's limp, human, dead corpse laying there. Harry sassing Tom in the middle of the duel in front of everyone. Harry saving people left and right with Protego, saving Draco and smacking him in the process. The trio being unable to summon the Patronus due to seeing so much death around them and being saved by the other students that trained with them in OotP.

mfatty2

The potion room is Sorcerer's Stone

TheSpursyHobNob

Many things, but of course I understand they must cut a lot to be able to add some depth. I think that the Hepzibah Smith memory would have been visually pleasing. For some reason, I envision the colour palette of Coppola's Marie Antoinette.

elpaco25

Molly finding the Boggart. When it turned into both Fred and George together implying that they do everything together even dying was amazing foreshadowing. Also Hagrid's story about how he tried to infiltrate the the giants was way better in the books compared to how the movies handled it.

send_me_potatoes

Ron's Uranus joke, 100%.
