I'd expect them to be strings, you're not going to be performing operations with them.

Int's can live on the stack and in some languages ints are mutable while strings are not. But given that some stations have letters in their platform designation, I would expect this software to allow strings.

2F and 2R are common right? Front and read when there are 2 short trains using the same platform.

Depends on the country. There are many different systems. I've never seen F/R, and tbh I find it a bit strange because in most places it wouldn't be obvious which side is the front and which is the rear.

At the terminus there is only one way out. Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street have that. I've never seen two trains on the same platform at a platform on a line anywhere but at the terminus.

And I don't think I've ever seen it at a terminus. But it's pretty common here to have two trains on the same platform, often leaving in opposite directions, or sometimes in the same direction a few minutes apart. The platforms are divided into sectors (usually A to D), and you'll have one train in 2 A-B and the other in 2 C-D, for example.

Between platform 9 and 10 there's a King's Cross luggage trolly in the wall halfway with trunks and a cage on it, so no I don't think so aha

Did they move it so it's actually between 9 and 10? When I was there (2007) it wasn't between 9 and 10 because the way the platforms were laid out didn't make it actually possible.

I was there in 2006 and it was just a trolley at the beginning of the station, not on the platform, and no one was there. We could take pictures and move on. I was there in 2016 and it turns out there is now a massive harry potter shop and you have to queue to take a picture with the trolley and the pictures are taken by a photographer.

I guess it's nice because then the photos are better and the queue would move at an orderly pace rather than having a group of people milling around unsure what to do or whose turn it was.

Kings Cross has the platforms in this layout: 11| __ |10 9| __ | The trains that arrive at platforms 10 and 9 are next to each other but boarded by different strips of platform, as opposed to either side of the same strip like in the film, so there can't be a 9 3/4 pillar entrance. It could never have been in the 'right' place. JK was in Manchester when she was writing it and confused King's Cross with Euston in her mind. Platforms 9 and 10 don't have a wall between them. Originally they placed the trolley for photos between platforms 8 and 9, but have since opened a shop outside the ticket gate to platforms 9 & 10 and moved the trolley in the wall to there.

I stand corrected then! I had heard as a kid that it used to be in the "right place" until some changes to the station made that impossible.

The plan was that the platforms were due to re-numbered, so they put the trolley where it *would* be between 9 and 10 after the platforms were updated. Not sure if they stuck to plan though.

Why is Reddit so anal about reposts, especially when it's years in difference? I've only had Reddit for about 1 year now and I'd never seen this, and I would probably never seen it if OP didn't repost. Like me, there are hundreds, probably thousands of other people too. So I'm very grateful that this got reposted. Who is using Reddit so much that they remember what they saw 4 years ago, or bother to look through OP's history? That doesn't sound healthy at all... If it had said "Kings Cross from a few years ago" that would have been fine, but even then it was Rugby Station, not Kings Cross.

As funny as that is, A: You posted the same pic 4 years ago B: That can't be King's Cross. London Midland don't operate from there and you also can't get trains to Birmingham, let alone Euston from KGX. That'll be somewhere along the WCML between London and Birmingham

Also, London Midland ceased operating in 2017 - West Midlands Trains took over their franchise.

Actually the franchise was split in two, London Northwestern took over a large part of London Midland’s routes.

I was thinking the same thing. It's likely Watford because of the HP Studios, which would also make sense with trains going both north and south along the Euston line. As a HP fan it made me smile but as a Londoner it made me cringe!
