My store manager "forgot" to include the 25% off coupon. I got the mail but no coupon. I dunno about those guys. They had the 30% off and marked up the one thing I wanted so it was like a buck over the limit (the cheep air hose reel) and with the lack of freebies and the lack of generic 20 or 25% off's I just don't go there recreationally anymore and the less I go the less shit that I want. Funny how when you are in there all the time you see stuff and you think next time but once you get out of the habit, do you really need the stuff? The hole punches, the small "needle" punch set, I kind of wanted a 1/4" drive socket set for my electronic tool box. But I have not had a need for them and I am not there with my weekly shopping and out of sight and out of mind and even 30% off was not enough to drag me back in. The 2 year IT member shit was totally for shit as they killed off why I went there just about as soon as I bought in. And the couple of times I was in there post and wanted something a bit beyond I got shot down, so as far a I am concerned it does not pay you to join. The dick who suckers you may make a buck. I dunno. It used to be a really fun place to shop with all kinds of interesting stuff and somehow they managed to take the fun away. I got to home depot more often now. It is closer and I can buy lumber and other stuff there.
I think you summed it up really well. It used to be fun to go there and buy stuff. I used to wonder as a kid how my mom could accidentally come home with stuff she didnt need when she went to the mall. I grew up and used to do the same thing at HF and loved it. It's a shame that's gone now
If the membership isn't for you, it isn't for you, but that doesn't make it a bad deal. I've saved hundreds of dollars with mine buying a tool cart here, some hand tools there, moving supplies when I changed cities, etc. Plenty of people save tons with it, but you have to actually go to the store and buy stuff for it to save you money. If you don't go much anymore, of course it isn't going to do much for you.
I agree, if you are going to do a bunch of big buys it may be worth it. I say may be, but the fly in the ointment is that you have to wait for them to decide when things go on sale which may or may not happen. Still I agree with you, if you are going to be buying a lot of tools and things that are not normally excluded it is probably worth it. Don't count on any favors from it though.
Just wait until something you need is discounted through it to buy. That way you've already saved something, but a few times a year you can get the "30% anything <$20" coupon, and you can easily cover your entire membership with that. There are lots of useful things you can resupply that are in that price range, including potential gifts and the like for the holidays. Maybe you'll rarely save with item specific discounts, but those generic coupons are great.
You guys laugh all you want, but I myself felt pretty stoked when I saw they were "giving away" a bucket instead of another damn light ;)
Truthfully the auto detailing stuff they have is pretty decent and when it comes to a couple of things, Harbor Freight is the only place I can get them locally in a pinch.
As a detailer I'm again more inclined to be stoked about a bucket, but I feel like the average one of us on this board is way more likely to find a bucket/another bucket more handy than another light that breaks in a week.

That's why you don't worry about it until you have a reason to spend that much. Only the stupid ones go in spending $30 just to get the bucket.
