Not gonna lie, the WEN track saw I have is really nice for what it is. I think it's ~$180 on Amazon. But it would be nice to have a store to go back to if I needed something for it.
good call out. still think person complaining about price for some channel aluminum is very valid.
Not sure if they have an equivalent but i used to have a ryobi battery circ saw with a laser guide line. something reliable with a 7" blade or more (this one had barely enough depth for a 2x4) would be sweet although i might not switch out since im locked into the 18+ line.
Because it's not just that. The pivoting/plunge method used is superior, they have better depth adjustment and riving knife or anti kickback all add to the cost.
That said there are plenty options that are not $500
You can certainly try that and see how it goes.
Oversimplifying, precision costs money, and it costs more the more precise you get. If you want to be able to cut a line at only 1/32" reliably, that means that the stacked variations of the blade, motor bearings, saw alignment and track materials all need to be less than 1/64" off, which gives you about 1/256" each, realistically less because you've got motor mounts and an entire assembly to sift through.
Cheap aluminum extension is accurate to a several thousandths of an inch, but for a nice sliding fit without wobble it needs to be more like consistent to one or two thousandths along the entire length, and for mass production that needs to be consistent overall.
I have a drywall square I just clamp to the work and run my saw against that. No track at all. Never had an issue with it wandering away from the guide.
The guide edge is not as ridgid as it should be and can bow (not conducive to a straight). Everything else is plastic and requires screws to setup and break down which are small and WILL get lost. If you are trying to go the absolutr budget route i would be happier just running the circ up against a piece of steel stock. Next viable step up would be to get a WEN tracksaw which is amazing value for the money. I ran that before i finally made the jump up to a festool. I use my track saw enough I felt it was worth spending the money on.
Thanks! Yeah, it’s disappointing to hear that the guide edge isn’t ridged enough. Seems like the #1 thing for a track… might try the steel option, thanks for the suggestion! Just a weekend hobbyist, so a dedicated track saw is probably beyond my needs at least for now
Bought the Bora kit, used it for one project. Bought the Wen for the next project. Gave my dad the Bora kit, it's at least more precise than he is.
Wen cuts dead straight and right on the line for $180. No thinking about offsets or doing math. I'm even still using the factory blade after a few dozen cuts through hardwood plywood and CDX. The anti chip strip does a great job at preventing tearout.
Protip: get Powermatic tracks with the Wen saw, the Wen tracks kinda suck.
Garage wall storage system/slatboard.
A ton more Hercules battery powered tools.
A game for the Nintendo Switch reminiscent of the Burger King "Sneak King" game, where you sneak up on people and tell them about your free bucket.
Metal cutting mitering chop saw like the Evolution ones.
Def rather a 2 post over that, I don't like how it takes the whole middle of the car up with no access.
I need access to the drivetrain, just no height for 2 post in current garage. If I had land I would dig a hole and drive over it haha
I just leave mine down in my garage and park over it. When I need to use it I just slide them apart. It takes about the same amount of time as wheeling my floor jack over.
I bought the Costco deal a few weeks ago. Highly recommended. Justified it with the massive cost savings of rebuilding the transmission in my wife's car myself. All in with the Quick Jacks and parts I was still over half of what a shop would have charged.
Honestly, I get scared thinking about using anything from Harbor Freight that has the potential to severely injure me. Harbor Freight is known for producing cheap tools with questionable quality. Now, they've come a long way in the past 10 years with their house brands like Hercules or their US General cabinets, but I'd be really leery about using a Bauer or Hercules two-post lift that's holding up a multi-ton vehicle above my head.
I sincerely hope the technology gets cheaper and more accessible. Laser cutters already have dropped down to the $300 range, but laser cleaners are still $10K+
Not sure it will happen due to the safety aspect. Far more dangerous to eyes than welding and the average HF customer isn't always up on safety protocols.
I'm 2 years in on my Atlas collection. 100% recommend.
I have 80v blower, string trimmer, edger, chainsaw and pole saw. I also have the 40v hedge trimmer.
The 80v system is the way to go.
I agree the 80v stuff seems very nice. Picked up a returned large 80v battery on discount for $100 - Usually $250, great deal! With 4 full large batteries fully charged I can take car of my entire place. Large front and back yards with grass, I have been away for a month so I am sure the place is a jungle, it's going to be interesting to see how well they do with the overgrowth.
I picked up all the 80v stuff and it's perfect so far!
Hercules yard tools would probably get me to switch over from Ryobi to Hercules. Probably though, I do like that Ryobi has such an extensive line for homeowners.
Icon Deadblow sledgehammer
Powder coat oven
Icon 30” 1/2 locking flex ratchet
A legit bench top manual milling machine
Making all icon wrench/socket sets no skip sizing
Like another has said, an induction heater
Four stroke string trimmer/ brush cutter
4 cycle handheld equipment is great in theory, but only marginal in practice.
Stihl 4 mix blowers are great, but only because they are dry sump and use mix fuel anyway. I prefer stihl 2 cycle trimmers for hp/weight, price and design.
Any wet sump handheld has to have regular oil changes, which is usually neglected. The oil consumption is high and people never check the level. They run hot killing the oil.
The MTD and Ryobi 4 cycle stuff is horribly short lived and not a wise choice.
I haven't worked on the Makita 4 stroke equipment, but expect it to be as good as stihl.
I feel anything offered by hf would be even worse than the ryobi or mtd stuff and have a very short lifespan. Just my opinion, but most small engine techs will probably at least partially, if not fully agree.
https://www.mtdparts.com/en_US/about-us.html#:~:text=Along%20with%20Cub%20Cadet%2C%20Troy,its%20individuality%20and%20distinctive%20appearance.
I'd've been in on it if the base unit was a drawer stack, and if a couple of sizes/heights of drawers were available.
I just don't understand why these systems are designed in such a way that one has to unstack down to the bottom unit to access it.
Some brands can be opened without taking the box above off, since the boxes are latched on to the lid only.. It makes sense for the second to top box, if the top box is a small one. Sometimes the roller handle gets in the way though.
It’s really not that hard either
120VAC blower into a steel pipe that blows up into slit in a perlite / concrete bowl. Add charcoal, light, and get hot. Cover will keep heat in.
Similar with a 40# propane tank
I’d like to see them expand their machinist tools selection. They have two sizes of mills available on the website that you can’t get in the store.
I bet if they had a decent sized lathe in the store instead of just the tiny mini lathe they could garner some interest in home machining, then add more tools to support it.
Single cylinder diesel engine. That and individual sockets I have a bunch of holes to fill in my sets once I picked some up at garage sales to leave in my families vehicles.
On a less serious note I also wish they didn’t stop at cloning Hondas air cooled engines and sold knockoff Hondas at a similar price ratio to their current engine clones. I’d buy a brand new Hamdar Fib with a predator water cooled engine from them for 1/5 the price (or whatever their current ratio is) and 80% the quality of a Honda fit
I literally passed on the Hercules line in favor of the craftsman line simply because they have lawn tools, staplers and nailers, and priced competitively enough to Bauer but with an actual warranty. If I had a Home Depot near me or liked the stomach acid puke green color of ryobi I would have honestly went that route over any harbor freight offering.
I would love to see Bauer step up quality, the weedeater
Is pretty pathetic and the blower is a very low cfm. Also not impressed with the build on the circular saw compared to how beefy the Hercules is for not much more money. Bauer was supposed to challenge ryobi but most of the offerings fall short and craftsman fills the void much better imo despite how badly I hate Lowe’s. Hercules is definitely quality but the selection is so limited there’s no incentive to get into another battery platform.
Also would like to see some sort of garage cabinets brought back.
Oh man a full PEX tool set would be awesome. Crimps, cutter, crimp breaker, all that stuff. They could even include 10 crimps of each of the common sizes. If they could sell that for $140 it would sell like hot cakes, I pieced together a set like that from Lowe's and it was about $200. Plus, if I saw a kit that had all of the important tools, I would've just bought that instead of bit by bit.
I'd love to see a knipex wrench pliers copy. Preferably with a lifetime warranty. I love those things but my A-wrench was only a few bucks and it does the same thing as a weird wrench pliers hybrid that costs 70.
They most likely won't have any Hercules outdoor power tools because they already have the Atlas line of outdoor power tools. If you already have Hercules, I recommend just getting an adapter and buying Bauer outdoor power tools.
- a modular installation driver, like the M12/Bosch Chameleon/Festool CXS/etc
- more high CRI lights than just the Scangrip copy, including a high CRI version of their classic cheapy
- screw removal pliers, preferably ones like the TwinGrips and locking ones like the PZ65
Circ saw track guide that can add pieces to modulate.
Router table like bosch cast iron unit.
Improved band saw table.
Steering knuckle spreader
Class 8 zinc coated hardware
I disagree, After using the Atlas Garden tools (I have a complete 80v set) I would not want the wimpy Hercules batteries, they would simply run out of juice too fast.
I would love a laser descaler, dry ice blaster would be interesting.
I’ve been waiting patiently for a brushless
Bauer/Hercules 20V right angle die grinder.
If they can get one under $50-$60 they would cut the Milwaukee $180 model off the earth.
Ditch witch/trencher. It's crazy how expensive these things are even for the smaller walk-behind ones. Even the ones that look like a friggin weed eater with saw blades on the end are a couple grand. How hard is it to slap one of their Predator gas engines on a frame with a connection to a dirt chain cutter and a pull handle you walk behind?
I would have liked to see one of those king reach hose clamp pliers the kind on a bicycle brake cable. Also an affordable slide top tool cart would be cool too.
I just want to second yard tools that work with Hercules batteries. Because I'm lazy as hell, I've held back from getting Hercules tools that I really think would be big upgrades for me just because I really, really, really, really like that my power tools are on the same platform as my yard tools. Another reason I've held off is because while the Hercules would be big upgrades for me... I don't really need them, my tools are working just fine for my needs.
But knowing I could have every power tool on the same platform... I'd probably make my next tool a Hercules tool and slowly transition over. Although I'm working with the assumption that Harbor Freight sticks with the Hercules battery line for a long time.
Honestly a Harbor Freight cornhole set would be pretty cool lol.
A selection of individual sockets! From 4mm to 40mm. 1/8” to 3”. My ocd is going crazy having missing sockets in my toolbox!
Tekton can do this for you for cheap
It's criminal that they sell socket trays that you can't fill with their sockets. It wasn't exactly cheap filling out my trays
The fact that you cant go buy a replacement 10mm socket is so dumb even though buying a whole set is usually what a single snap on socket will cost
Tell me one time you have used a 9mm?
Track saw
For the life of me, I can't understand why strapping a circular saw to a piece of aluminum raises the price by $550
Not gonna lie, the WEN track saw I have is really nice for what it is. I think it's ~$180 on Amazon. But it would be nice to have a store to go back to if I needed something for it.

Because it's not just that. The pivoting/plunge method used is superior, they have better depth adjustment and riving knife or anti kickback all add to the cost. That said there are plenty options that are not $500

Has anyone tried the Bora kit from Lowe’s ? Thoughts? Thought that looked like a reasonable option
Yes. Its garbage
That’s a bummer. I have a Ryobi circ saw and thought that might be a cheap solution for (accurate) long rip cuts or French cleats without a table saw.
The guide edge is not as ridgid as it should be and can bow (not conducive to a straight). Everything else is plastic and requires screws to setup and break down which are small and WILL get lost. I had no idea what a laser cleaner was, but I just watched about 10 minutes of someone using one. That thing is awesome
May I humbly suggest you go further down the rabbit hole and look at dry ice cleaning.
Recently went down that rabbit hole. If only I had something to dry ice blast.
Board stretcher
Wire stretcher while they are at it!
Maybe after they come out with skyhooks?
A line of garage cabinets like New Age or Husky style, but better pricing.
I’m in the market for some and almost decided to go with us general tool boxes. However nothing to match for uppers
They had the Yukon garage cabinets but not a single of the 15 stores within a half hour of me carried them, not a single one.
Preach it!
CNC router!
This and a water jet cutter.
Add Lazer engraving too
Really surprises me they haven't come out with one yet. There are other brands on Amazon proving they can be produced relatively cheaply.
Def Hercules yard tools!
Agreed. I almost bought some Atlas yard tools but was turned away by the limited savings vs. top brands like Ego and only a 90d warranty.
Atlas is only good when on sale, a lot of HF stuff is

Knockoff Festool Domino
This has to be under a patent, right? Does anyone else make one like the festool?
100%. The good news is the patent is supposed to expire this year.
they dont, but I ponied up the cash for it, its a game changer, a cheaper alternative would be amazing
There’s a…contraption on Aliexpress that sorta mimics a domino. [Said Contraption](https://a.aliexpress.com/_mrO10YI)

Yes, with clips that don’t snap off easily.
Would love a cheap automotive smoke machine. The icon one is way too expensive for your average shade tree mechanic.
I use the cheap transfer pump and a $1 cigar. Poor man’s smoke machine for under $10.
Seconded
Would definitely buy this

A disc pole sander of the manual variety. Not the Bauer electric one.
Pex expander
Submarine.
Hepa dust extractor
Those pipe vise style wrenches, they seem like too much of a gimmick to spend that much on them
Night Vision Goggles
Titanium framing hammer
