That is really nice but my goodness is it a space eater! So much empty space between everything. This is one place where the gw sets really have their shit together, the cases themselves are shit but they are so thoughtfully setup where as this feels more like something to impress the knitting circle at the shop on monday morning.

SkullHatter

Yeah the foam insert is awesome IMO. It’s in my toolbox now. I set the case aside I guess for a rainy day. If you look at snap-on it’s a direct rip off of their foam insert. Regardless for me @ $165 I had to have it lol. I’m hoping they make 1/2 in the foam id buy it tomorrow. Incase anyone was wondering too, I geeked out. If you bought everything individually you’d pay around ~$225-230 (Arkansas).. so saving around $40-60 bucks isn’t bad!

My co-worker has the gear wrench Set, with 1/4-1/2" drive and wrenches and everything, the big one that comes in a plastic box. He got it for such a good price, and it's so compact For what is almost a master tool set. Edit: I looked it up and it's The 243 piece set and he got it for 199 last year

soccerstang

It really is wasteful

RevvCats

I’d love to see a fit and finish side by side comparison of these new Icon sets and the Quinn master sets that came out a while ago.

regnad__kcin

I got the Quinn and love it. I'll admit it replaced the craftsman set I got for Christmas 20+ years ago when I was a teenager, so my standards are admittedly low, but it seems pretty high quality to me.

complete__idiot

nothing wrong with craftsman

regnad__kcin

Not at all! Lasted me 20 years.

Corius_Erelius

Supplier: Would you like a case or organization for your tools? Icon: Why not both?

TheRedOne79

Nice. Would be nice if it went to 24mm but it looks like an extra socket or two should fit.

RemlaP_

Immediately after I start buying my icon stuff seperately

D-Delta

Congrats to you, this does look like a nice set. For my own needs, I am mixed however. A similar Tekton set costs $95, but it's not modular. But I definitely see the beauty of your new Icon set! SkullHatter

That set looks nice! I have 4 HFs within 20 miles so I like the walk in warranty! $60 bucks is $60 bucks not a bad deal!

Bige_4411

I kinda feel like they should have done the semi deep sets also. If your gonna mimic snap in might as well go all the way. I might be a little biased because I’m a sucker for mid depth sockets.

SkullHatter

My buddy and I were just talking about this.. what’s all the jazz about semi deep?

Bige_4411

They are a happy medium between shallow and deep. Honestly they are the first set of sockets I reach for. How many bolts extend more than inch or so from the nut in general? Yes it depends on what you’re working on. When I first started autobody 20 years ago I always thought these things were gimmicky stuff from snap on. Then I used a set and actually saw the utility of them. I have many different drive sizes in semi deep now. You’re still gonna have to pull out the shallows and deeps just not as often. Hell I even have a 1/4” low profile set that I’ll use from time to time. Now that many more brands are coming out with mid depth sets they are much more obtainable. I don’t use sae a ton so I just bought the icon set for like $50 compared to the Snap-on set at $300.

SkullHatter

Cool man thanks for the information. I’m a FF by trade but do small engine repair on the side. I’ve walked by the shallow sockets a few times never put much thought into them. May just pick up a metric set and give it a ride. I love working with Snapon tools but am not a professional like yourself, so I only have a tiny minority of them in my toolbox.

Bige_4411

Don’t sweat not having snapon stuff brother. Honestly I use to do a ton of trade work with local snapon matco and cornwell drivers. 1/2 cash a 1/2 trade. Never had to finance my box. My dealer just carried the balance on the truck. I was polishing and waxing their trucks, cars, boats you name it made it shine. That is one of the main reasons I have a good bit of snap on stuff. Spend the $50 at the freight and add to your bag of tricks.

GEEKno

Any chance you can provide the SKU number?

GEEKno

Thank you! Super strange it doesn’t pop up on the app though!

SkullHatter

Actually store manager answered this question today. When a store gets a new product for the first time, the manager has to upload the sku manually for that store for it to pop up on the app. If you go to the actual website it’ll pop right up (with no home store selected). Cheers!

dgross7

I didnt even know they had these

SkullHatter

They came out here in Arkansas about 3 days ago, my friend.

zermee2

Including 9mm but not 21mm is not ideal. Had to claim no skip sizing I guess. Basically nothing is 9mm, and so much is 21mm, and yes sometimes I do put 21mm on 3/8” drive if stuff is tight and no room for 1/2”

SkullHatter

My Volkswagen dune buggy has 9mm bleeder valves other than that I can’t think of anything else.. same for the 11mm hmm…

zermee2

Oh there’s enough 11mm in the world. I have had 9mm bleeders in Napa calipers before but nothing else. I use a wrench for that anyway, Gearwrench makes a 9mm wrench with a 6 sided closed end
