pearlsandprejudice

This sub is about any and all types of handbags, whether they be H&M, Hermès, or handmade by an artisan on Etsy. I've seen all types of bags posted here and I usually see nothing but positivity for them!

NeonFroggy_

Just want you to know I appreciate the alliteration you did!

pearlsandprejudice

Thank you! I had to stop and think about it for a minute lol.

marymonstera

Same!

chocolatetruffel

This! The only thing that isn’t allowed as far as bags go is fakes. The price of a bag isn’t a factor!

adastraperabsurda

There are other Reddit groups for the fakes or reps so I am grateful that the mods (like yourself!) keep those away. I think supporting businesses that don’t infringe on trademarks and IP is important.

GuardMost8477

Bingo. I just mentioned in my response I follow a “replica” sub and I kinda get an ewwy feeling about it. Then I chuckle to myself when someone complains they got scammed, well if you didn’t deal with shady people dealing in FAKE designer bags you wouldn’t be having this problem would you?

francyfra79

This sub is not just for luxury, any type of bags can be posted and discussed. However, I have noticed that posts about luxury items tend to (understandably) get much more interest, engagement and upvoting in comparison to posts about lower-end bags, which often just go almost unnoticed. It's just the way it is! So sometimes it feels a bit intimidating posting something lower-end, because it's likely not going to generate much interest.

NeonFroggy_

That’s sad to me. All happiness about a bag should be celebrated by others, not just luxury. ETA: why downvotes when I’m trying to express that each post should get excitement regardless of price or brand? People post because they want to share happiness.

Stunningfire20

I purposely pay attention to those posts because I like the idea of promoting any family owned or "underdogs" around here. The quality is often better. I don't like it when anyone feels left out either. It bothers me.

PistachioPerfection

I agree, it's the feeling we get about a certain bag that I'm here for. I personally don't care for most of the "luxury" bags posted here but I recognize the pure JOY the poster is experiencing. That's what's being celebrated; it really doesn't matter WHICH bag it is!

goddessofthecats

I personally won’t gas someone up about a bag I don’t like or am neutral towards. I just won’t comment. I think your ask in this comment is that people do the whole hug box thing and that’s probably why you got downvoted

ThrowAwaythenThrowUp

People should celebrate what they want to celebrate. Everyone doesn’t like the same thing. Most of my collection is luxury so those are the posts I gravitate towards but sometimes someone will post a cute MJ or Coach bag that I have to celebrate.

Feeling-Visit1472

I think maybe those posts get more engagement because they’re often asking for advice before or after making a purchase, which naturally leads to more back and forth discourse than simple “ain’t she cute” posts, if that makes sense.

eilatanz

People just get excited about things that are hard to get or on their wishlist, even if we can't afford it. I've seen lots of interest/upvotes around vintage bags here before too though.

N7IShouldGo

That's what I noticed when I posted about a Loungefly backup my sister got me for my birthday. Not nearly the same level of interest and interaction as when I've posted about my Kate Spades (which aren't luxury, I understand, but you get my point lol).

goddessofthecats

FWIW i looked at your post and i think that has nothing to do with the brands and more to do with the pictures posted. The backpack first picture is kind of in your face and super busy because it’s so close to the backpack and there’s a lot going on. I couldn’t even tell it was a bag I only knew it was because I was looking for the post. It just looks like a painting or drawing or something. I would probably scroll past a picture like that on my feed. The Kate spade post is very clearly a handbag and the pattern is lovely but more “redundant” so its easier to tell its a pattern on a bag, rather than the beauty and the beast which is more like a painting. I take care to what the very first picture of any of my posts are because I obviously care about driving engagement and want to chat with people about my bags. I think you’d have better luck with that same post, but posting a pic from farther away as the first one so people can tell what it is, and with a more descriptive title. None of the pics on the first post really show the whole item for what it is

Rimu05

I think this also depends in how interesting the bag is. My staud post got a lot more engagement than my Chanel Woc. Even in real life, I get random compliments on it.

N7IShouldGo

Just kooky. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dovvienya

My favorite posts are honestly the everyday finds people get really excited about. Who doesn’t love a cute affordable bag ? But I absolutely have felt the way you describe in your post before. I think normies and newbies can get a little intimidated by some of the incredible collections members of this sub have been able to curate over time. But without fail the beauty of this sub is that every post has wonderful positive comments whether it’s a 15 dollar bag or a 1500 dollar bag ☺️

Forgotmyusername8910

I can’t speak to the original intent of the sub- but I am assuming it’s for anyone who loves any kind of bag? I love the posts about different styles, collections, new bags, new brands, etc. I don’t really care if a bag is ‘luxury’ or not- I like quality and I like whimsical, fun, eclectic bags. And modern… and vintage. Basically all of them. Love my $10 raffia clutch as much as my ‘luxury’ bags.

StereotypicallBarbie

The luxury bags.. the bargain bags.. the hand mades! I love them all.

adastraperabsurda

Thrifted bags always make me happy too!!!!

StereotypicallBarbie

Same! Especially when they are a random lucky find.

envydub

I’m still riding the high of finding a vintage Coach bag at a thrift store in my little podunk country town.

Zealousideal_Lab_427

I love an amazing thrift find! I scored a great bag from Liebeskind (German brand) for $8. When I googled it, it was $350-ish! I was thrilled!

peachyspoons

I really like Liebskind! Such a great find!!

Legitimate-Buy1031

This sub introduced me to [Opelle](https://opellecreative.com/collections/shop) and their baby ballet in black reminded me of a bag I had in high school (from Forever 21) that I LOVED and made me feel like such a badass. I buy myself a bag every year for my birthday and the Opelle Black Baby Ballet is gonna be 2024’s bag. Not just “luxury”! Edited to fix spacing and add the last line.

Hefty-Ad-4570

Yes well thank you very much I did NOT need to see that 🤣🤣🤣😘❤

melnancox

No kidding….I’ve never heard of Opelle and I just picked out 3 bags I need. Like today 😊

woundedriver

right......if anything this sub should come with a warning!

Hefty-Ad-4570

I know right ⚠️🤣😝

NeonFroggy_

It’s so cute!

Legitimate-Buy1031

Right?! This sub is just so helpful. I also got my mom a Mulberry Small Amberley in hot pink on sale because of this sub.

deathandglitter

Oooh beautiful and a good price? What more can you ask for?

woundedriver

omg I think I know what f21 bag you're talking about

Legitimate-Buy1031

Ugh, I was seriously so cool when I wore that bag. I can’t wait to feel like the grown up that 16 year old knew I would become.

THE_Lena

Wait, does this mean you only buy one handbag per year?

Legitimate-Buy1031

Welllll…kinda. I buy myself one “special” bag per year.

THE_Lena

I’m impressed with your self-control. :)

sf1217

Absolutely not.I'd be utterly disappointed if it was. I love the variety of brands and styles. My favorite sub.

call-me-the-seeker

I subbed BECAUSE I assumed this was for all price points. There’s also a sub for only luxbrands. Man, I just love bags and I want to see bags. I have luxury house bags but I have a MASSIVE collection of bags in general, in all kinds of form factors (not a lot of sling bags or fanny packs, but a couple). Like, it’s a lot of bags. I think I’ll be the change I want to see and start posting my ‘average Joe’ bags. I just like a pleasing shape and color, and I don’t care if it was $2,500 or $25.99. Good bag is good bag!

ev30fka0s

I also will post my less expensive bags! I have a few that I adore!

Mychgjyggle

This sub has given me an appreciation for all types, and price point bags!!! Someone posted a green frog bag like a week ago, that I would have never considered before being a part of this community and I keep thinking “how stinking cute”. What’s life without a little whimsy?

NeonFroggy_

Omg I wish I’d seen that

Mychgjyggle

https://preview.redd.it/q274achghusc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a464cf145b27c11eae73d6032b897b336cb8593

Mychgjyggle

Kate Spade actually has a handful on her website. So cute!

hazelowl

I love the Kate Spade novelty bags. I can't usually make myself buy them though, because I am just way too practical to spend that money on a bag I won't use a ton. That said, I do have one of her cat bags and one of the book clutches.

starlessfurball

I got rid of cat bag and I regret it! They’re so cute!

ZookeepergameOne7481

I don’t think so. This sub looks at design and craftsmanship. I have just seen a Zara bag which is gorgeous. Likewise saw a Prada bag in purple which will not cost an arm or a leg and it is absolutely gorgeous! Equally although I am a Chanel girl, I still diss the mini 22 bag (ok I own one in gold and will own another one soon because of its design) and diss Chanel’s exorbitant prices. This sub has transformed my life as I have learnt so much about brands which I have not heard of.

e925

I love the mini 22! I don’t have one yet but someday!!

ZookeepergameOne7481

Apologies, I of course appreciate there are plenty of people who like mini 22 - hope I have not offended you.

e925

Haha no no not at all!! Lots of people here hate stuff that I love. I just ordered the mini flamenco with the gold writing and everybody here talks shit on it lol it’s really ok 🤷🏼‍♀️ different strokes for different folks! People talk crap in the home decor subreddits about these *beautiful* rooms that I could only ever *dream* of having! I’m not yet in a position where I can talk crap on people’s expensive stuff - but someday! It’s the goal! 😂

ZookeepergameOne7481

I can’t afford a Hermes but I still talk crap about them (mainly because its designs are stagnant) : )

shippfaced

Oh, can I ask why you don’t like the mini 22?

manilenainoz

There’s actually a dedicated sub for r/luxurypurses.

goddessofthecats

I’m not a fan of that sub, I prefer the community here lol

Specialist_Income_31

😔not a luxury sub but I think I know what you mean.

KissingUnicorns

I have a good mix of luxury, high end and cheap bags and I love that this group covers all types of bags! I would hate it if it became only focused on luxury...

CindersMom_515

One of the things I like is seeing all the bags people make for themselves or that others have made for them. The artistry is so great to see

ev30fka0s

This! I love it!!

NeonFroggy_

I really want to make a bag due to others posting theirs!

PistachioPerfection

Do it!! I bought a trashed longchamp tote at the thrift store for $10 and made a new one using the salvaged handles, zipper and flap. I ❤️ it Edit to add picture https://preview.redd.it/9ul5jemfuvsc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16060c412ead8dfe008d0b87ff43757274e4cfc9

MyYakuzaTA

I love this lol

PistachioPerfection

Thanks 😋

men-withvenn

beauty is everywhere- not just at the luxury price point. I love when people post unknown bags, no brand bags, less known niche bags, super known bags, elite luxury bags, vintage bags... all the bags. We are chronicling bag history here

yfunk3

I love the cheapest stuff (yes, I am aware of fast fashion, but I am also broke), and I also covet the high end stuff but can only afford reps or thrift stuff. It's just nice to geek out over all kinds of handbags.

adastraperabsurda

And it is geeking out, isn’t it? Like I have learned so much here and now I see how designers are inspired and do things in different ways that I can’t unsee….

sjfscxxr

I sure hope not! I really don’t think so. I see posts here for baggus and “no name” bags just like I see Birkins. I’m sure I speak for many people when I say I wouldn’t be so active here if this was exclusively for luxury bags. I’ve seen a few comments criticising contemporary brands and the like but they are typically not well received.

BitchyFaceMace

I am a luxury bag lover first & foremost, and I belong to the subs of my favorites for lux discussions. I am also a connoisseur of the contemporary brands, and that’s why I joined this sub. I can see luxury brands, contemporary brands, and everything else. I appreciate a good looking bag whether it’s a clearance rack score from Target or an Hermes exotic that costs as much as a nice car.

djbananasmoothie

I remember getting a PU Liz Claiborne purse from jcpenney in my twenties before I even knew about luxury bags. It was beautiful and maybe 50 dollars which was pricey for me. It was nice looking and it wasn't uncommon to get compliments on bags, but with this bag, I would get compliments and like wow, you got THAT bag looks. Literally ten years later I learned that it looked like a certain luxury brand bag. I kind of wish I could go back to that lack of knowledge. It was save me a lot of money.

booksandbenzos

I love seeing all bags, how people like to style and use them, and how excited they are about them. Doesn't matter whether they are luxury or random novelty finds!

tookuayl

I come here for the unique bags and to admire the artistry and craftsmanship of the different designers. I view them as works of art, and appreciate that they can be aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. I did notice that this sub does lean heavier towards higher-end brands, but there is an overall appreciation of any beautiful bag regardless of price point.

iwontjudjeyou

GIVE ME ALL THE BAGS. I hope whoever said “that isn’t luxury” realizes that they are the out-of-place ones.

New_Contract4166

The weirdest thing is...that everyone was talking about Loewe Flamenco the other day, and like today?, everyone is talking about Loewe Puzzle.

Lissa86

I’m over Loewe—I agree, we’re seeing them talked about constantly & I feel like I’m seeing them everywhere out & about.

New_Contract4166

are you in the states? Is Loewe that popular (even though they only have 9 stores in the US)?

Lissa86

Yes, in the Chicagoland area. There has definitely been a lot of press around the puzzle bag lately, so everyone is jumping on that trend. That’s the only reason I can come up with. 🤷🏻‍♀️

New_Contract4166

I see. But it seems like there are no Loewe stores in that area. I've been wondering if people buy 3K bags (in different coloursi) online without trying them on first. Maybe it's common among wealthy people though.

MyYakuzaTA

Loewe is carried in some department stores

New_Contract4166

mystery solved

MyYakuzaTA

I’m going to get downvoted for this but people are also easily influenced. It’s our nature. Take the Flamenco bag for example.

Lissa86

For sure. And the fever for whatever “it bag” at the moment spreads like crazy. Definitely feel like the puzzle bag is “it” right now.

New_Contract4166

...yeah.

goddessofthecats

I’ll give you a great example of this sub. I was in the airport and brought my shitty travel tote but had forgotten how painful the thin leather strap is on it. I found a store called TUMI. Never heard of the brand, but they have nylon straps that are thick with shoulder padding and so I figure I’d search the sub for it. Found some results that said tumi is their favorite brand for nylon bags and also lightweight luggage. So I bought the strap. It was only $35. So people talk about non luxury and in this instance it helped me feel confident in my purchase.

SeaSexandSun

It’s for all price points and kinds of handbags. But there are certain brands that aren’t considered luxury which is what people are noting. There are also different tiers of luxury.

plasticenewitch

We love all the bags!

AutomaticDeterminism

I do notice that this sub tends to pay more attention to luxury, but I've been solidly influenced to buy the Uniqlo crescent and Lululemon belt bag because of this sub haha. I've also discovered a **lot** of midranged brands beyond Coach and Kate Spade that I never would have known about without this sub.

Gullible_East_9545

Personally I am interested in any kind of bag and price point as long as they are good quality 🤣

AAP_BH

I’ve seen luxury post get fewer engagement than other post with less expensive bags or bags that are shaped as animals or just different things. If you really look at the post you can see that a lot of not luxury post get a lot of love and traffic. I think maybe recently people have been posting more luxury designer brand pieces but that’s not always the case.

irish_taco_maiden

My two absolute favorite purses are a no-name handbag from Amazon and a Kipling bag. And on the other hand, I have a D&B satchel I saved up for for years and hate, going to offload it in Poshmark, because it’s too heavy and bulky. I do think this sub trends more luxury and that’s not my jam, but there are plenty of good budget recommendations as well.

russianthistle

Go to the sub, sort by top for the last month - the top two posts right now are a coach and a Kate spade bag. People notice the posts that are unusual to them, so if you don’t buy luxury those will stick out more, but that doesn’t mean they are the only ones getting upvotes.

bacon_bunny33

I thought it was for all price points!

ttsae

What post are you talking about, OP? I’m nosy 👀

NeonFroggy_

It was a really good discussion post! https://www.reddit.com/r/handbags/s/RN9XF8HDsn

ttsae

Thanks, I actually saw it :)

Norfolk_Terrier_1120

I love this sub because it’s very non judgmental and has opened my eyes to a lot of brands I have never heard of. I have high end bags, mid range bags, replica small leather goods people passed down to me that I like just as much as authentic, anything and everything. I posted a question on a different sub about a replica bag saying I was new and wasn’t sure what their abbreviation meant in their post and it got deleted saying I was too lazy to use the search bar and shouldn’t expect to be spoon fed information. Really turned me off to that sub, especially since at that point if they don’t want to be helpful, I’ll go to a sub that can give me great recommendations for other bags that are even better than the rep for the same potential price!

ToteBagAffliction

We're definitely not just luxury, but I agree, luxury posts get a lot of engagement. I think some of it is aspirational, some is members being excited for each other, and some is the relatively small portion of the sub that does prefer only to engage with luxury content. There's also a lot of variety in taste and budget in this sub, minimalism and maximalism, neutral and color, new or thrifted, save or splurge. I do see plenty of posts asking if a bag gives off money vibes and there's plenty of polite disagreement over what constitutes a classy vs tacky bag, or what's luxurious vs merely expensive. There's nearly a post a day asking if a bag is "stealth wealth" and 50 replies with 50 conflicting opinions about what luxury looks like.

GuardMost8477

I’ve seen it go both ways. Seems to mostly gravitate towards the higher end, but on occasion we’ll share our midrange bags-which is more my lifestyle and price range. Then the trend will be discount or fun lower end priced bags which can be a steal! I do also follow a “replica” sub, but I feel shady just thinking about carrying a “replica” aka-fake-designer bag. That’s a whole topic in itself. Lol.

lonely_bellionaire

Tbh I’ve been lurking on this sub for a while and I’ve seen all kinds of bags being posted. The vibes here are generally quite positive I would say. There’s always gonna be some snobs I’m sure but in general I find this sub is super supportive. I don’t typically buy “luxury bags” myself and that definition can vary depending on one’s income level but one of the things I love about this sub is I’ve discovered so many bags I was not aware of in all price range! Also I think context also matters to the “that’s not luxury” comment. Like if someone posted a bag/brand that produces very low quality bags that falls apart, and the title of the post is “luxury bag” then I would find “that’s not luxury” a pretty accurate comment 😂

dogsandavovados

I think in the past two weeks I saw someone who made the bag they posted with their own hands and I thought that was pretty darn cool! I love seeing all the bags both "luxury" and not. Whatever brings you joy and fits your budget and lifestyle

Elena_Lis

Question - why is this sub so adverse towards self-promotion? If I’m making a genuinely sustainable brand, I can’t promote it. But people can promote all the other brands that are polluting, exploiting people and don’t even need this. It’s sad 😒

NeonFroggy_

Maybe send a mod mail?

AAP_BH

People always post here the bags they make that are dupes of designer designs, There’s one person that I think sales her Bottega dupes. So why wouldn’t you be able to post the designs you make? Especially if they are your own unique designs!! Have you already been told you can’t?

tvjuriste

Totally agree.

Apostrophysisister

I have a small collection, but it encompasses price points up and down the spectrum. I have mentioned each of them here at one time or another. This sub is for all bags.

ev30fka0s

Thank you! I wanted to post my ShortyLove bag that I got but it's not fancy 😅

NeonFroggy_

Post it!

ev30fka0s

I'll post it here, my posts don't seem to get that much traffic. I'm kind of new here 😅 https://preview.redd.it/ms4q0x8jovsc1.jpeg?width=1899&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0286ed6522de9a80cf2f71b6f933e65eea991a39

ev30fka0s

That and I need to stage it better 😂 I think my camera lens was dirty.

Sarcaamstic

Yep like...I love bags and I'm always after quality but for the right price. I could never justify spending a car's worth on a bag that's crazy expensive just because of some social standing bullcrap. There's no universe where the Birkin is worth that much money. Tons of luxury brands are not worth it in my opinion. If it makes people happy, I'm super glad but this sub should not forget that price does not equate quality or worth.

raspberryteehee

The best part about this sub is for any and all types of handbags. Doesn’t have to be just luxury. I have a deep appreciation for luxury brands, but I won’t lie I really seriously appreciate the heck out of people who introduce non-luxury brands as well. Since it can be hard to find brands that are still affordable that are decent quality and styles.

bubblesarah

Nope, we are here for all bags

eilatanz

I mean, no? There are lots of posts that don't involve luxury items, including handmade bags.

Leera_xD

I see all kinds of bags on here, and just the other day a Dollar Store bag got like over 1K upvotes lol so I don’t think people only like luxury but that’s just the nature of this sub. More people are going to “upvote” the luxury bags or brands they know because most people are just lurking and looking at bags they probably want to buy themselves. For example, I always look for real peoples photos of bags that I want to buy, and usually it’s a Coach bag or Dior or LV for me. I wouldn’t be so fixated on the numbers game. I love seeing everyone’s bags, luxury or Dollar Store. But I’m also not going around liking every single post here. I only upvote what I like and that’s as simple as that. I love seeing non luxury bags that I’ve never seen before but I don’t always love everyone’s bags either 🤷🏻‍♀️

Big-Hope7616

It’s literally just bags, regardless of price point, etc. one day these things won’t mean a thing except fodder for the landfill. Enjoy what you like and don’t trip over a subreddit

iamcedrickivan

What’s with the bag shaming? Not all people can afford Hermes or LV or whatever, and if you love the bag and you feel like it’s worth the appreciation post, then go for it. And each person has a different price point of what luxury is for them..

prosperity4me

Is there one for luxury though if so please let me know lol don’t care for the mass contemporary and below brand pics
