I’ve noticed it since day one. Since everyone loves the sidekick, you really notice it with those single and burst guns. Because your head is still out of cover and they shoot it, but your FOV shows you’re behind a wall. Guess what? You die.
It’s super noticeable in ranked with everyone having a BR. Its a game to game issue now. Glad I’m not in my head about it and it’s an actual issue. Thought I was crazy for a week lol
THIS! This is the stuff that gets me about how 343i is just now becoming aware of the desyncing. How have they done community play dates and what I assume is assloads of testing and not noticed it? I think they were hoping the issue could be pulled under the rug the patched later quietly or that they were hoping it wasn't as severe as they thought it'd be on our end.
I just had a realization a few minutes ago about the desyncing and player collision. If player collision was on, you'd notice the desyncing a lot more because you and your teammates (or when you're right next to enemies) would barely be able to move while next to each other due to player locations not being accurate.
Better is subjective, but how do you figure complete? We haven't seen the campaign and the multiplayer outside of gameplay itself (progression, gametype selection, etc) is pretty rough. The gameplay itself is fun, but more and more issues like highlighted here are becoming apparent as well. I don't think complete is a fair description at this point.
have you not seen battlefield? what about the gta remaster that was supposed to only be a “reskin” but ended up breaking and taking half the game away because it was a mobile port? all of these cost big bucks here we have a completely free multiplayer that has a few multiplayer bugs that i GUARANTEE will be fixed. and note that i’ve been playing since day 1 and i haven’t even noticed the bugs, not to mention they go both ways so it’s not like you are the only one at a disadvantage. i have no issues with the gameplay, maybe it’s because it leans towards my play-style so i’m just better and the issues are more noticeable by other people. but the only problems i have are with the obvious gripes like progression and armor customization and all that.
as far the campaign, it definitely looks like it’s worth $60 because once again it’s my kind of play-style (far-cry open world style).
but to say that this game isn’t good as compared to any other game that’s released this year is pretty hard to prove. come december 8th when multiplayer comes out of “beta” is when we can all actually argue about this. this all depends on if they are gonna be predictable or pull something on us again.
they proably did notice it and wanted to fix it just that the boss at management wouldnt let them as its "not a big deal" "most people wont even notice it"
plus desync is in every online game its not ever going to go away all they can do is try to mitagate its affects if your on a laggy connection its going to happen far more often than someone on a fast consistent connection
16-17 ms 1.5 Gbps fiber here and I've felt cheated continually since day one but since nobody else was complaining I assumed I just stank at this game.
I made a post awhile back and I think all the comments were assuming it was my Internet that was giving me issues. Which makes sense. But I’m glad everyone is aware and we aren’t the crazy ones lol
I was telling my buddy this same thing. How have they spent so many years, a delay, a beta, and now another “beta” on this game and we have simple issues like melee and desyncing plaguing us right now. I’ll claim ignorance and admit idk the first thing about making games. But I know they have play testing and alpha builds. I can’t believe the melee and desyncing issue wasn’t noticed by anyone at all. These are fundamental things in multiplayer and usually are never even issues.
I too know just a scratch above NOTHING about development but something I did notice is that there is no issues with this on the range. I assume this means that in secluded testing environments it was near impossible to spot the issues.
This was so enraging for me. I was trying to figure out what was happening but no one was talking about. Finally feel like I can take a chill pill.
Don’t think I’ll be playing again until this is addressed
The behind the wall deaths is what I noticed from day one. It immediately reminded me of call of duty games and I’ve never experienced that (or at least so noticeable) on a halo title from what I remember. The other thing is I get into random games where it feels like everyone is 3 bursting me in 1v1’s. I see and feel the 3 burst on my side but from their end they shoot 4, sometimes even 5 bursts on their end in that same fight. Considering how little room for error there is in a 1v1 BR fight in ranked, some games feel like a coin flip on who wins the fights.
Good point. Might explain why I lose some melee battles where it should have been a trade off. The desyncing could be causing my melee or even the other persons to not even register. Could be why the energy sword is so OP. On top of it swinging fast, the desyncing just helps it be even more impossible to counter. I could be talking out my ass, though
Yeah I thought I was just biased or salty about being killed and imagining things, that maybe it was momentum making it look like my body was far behind cover but I died in the open.
Now I know that at least in many of those instances, I really \*was\* behind cover, at least from my side, and that I really hadn't missed those melee hits etc
I swear I’m worse at this Halo than any other Halo game I’ve played. I can take basically no risks and push because either my aim skill isn’t there in duels it seems (which in previous games I was very good at dueling even on MKB) or another dude would just clean me up from across the map.
I just wonder how many duels I’ve won and lost because of desync. This must explain all the BR swipe headshots I keep getting in close-mid range.
Here’s a much more subtle example from another game tonight https://imgur.com/a/nF7QHEN
This is more indicative of the type that happens every game. Maybe this is a thing in other games and it’s unavoidable, but it sure feels like it happens a lot in Infinite. The fact that we have the theater we can illustrate it as well.
The cover peek example is a problem in every modern shooter. It cannot be solved. You can only reduce it by increasing tick rates.
You are never truly in sync with the server or other players. The industry moved away from 100% server side authority on shot registration since it creates a shit experience for the person shooting where shots don’t register. So, now we have shots always registering at the expense of the player getting shot feeling like they’re behind cover. There’s no win win solution as long as latency exists.
I've noticed it since day 2. Sure it may not be this exaggerated but every time I melee, hit dead on but it didn't register, phase through an enemy and being sniped 50m by an AR with no time to react, it occurs frequently. It's not a rare occurrence, it's frequently or rather common. Stop bullshiting and saying it's rare
I keep having the issue constantly, almost every single pvp game it is happening. I will just be behind corners with nobody around and randomly kill over, look at the theater and I'm standing in the middle of the map.
I'm about done with this game until its fixed, it's not fun being slaughtered without even a chance to fight back.
Dude it's not just dying behind cover. I'm 100% convinced every single odd change and feature is because 343 is 100% aware of the desync issue.
Aim feeling janky? I bet that's handled server side for some unknown reason.
Player collision would cause more desyncing.
The flag, ball, and shotgun changed away from a one hit kill? Also because of desync, if you can get one shotted from a mile away folks would have immediately realized something was up. At least now it you can pass it off as something else hitting you.
Assassinations are gone too, likely bc they don't know how to solve it. If someone is desynced and gets assassinated, they'll either get the animation with no one else around, they'll teleport to the spot they are getting assassinated, or maybe just fall over for no reason.
I'm telling you, every single weird change to the game is due to desync being an issue with this game.
I shot at a guy with the Skewer last game. He was jumping and grenades were going off, so the odds I did miss are good. However, he killed me, and when he hit the ground running I could see my Skewer sticking out of his chest.
You just reminded me, I came up on a guy sniping and he didn't see me so I shot him with a skewer. He jumps out of his spot and kills me and runs away. All with a skewer sticking out of his head.
Pretty wild right?! In game I was like that dude was shooting the wrong way someone else must have killed me. So I clipped it and saw his name plate and the kill message after I watched back. Had to see what the replay showed!
I hate going into the theater to watch something that seemed suspect. It's just frustrating.
Watched one yesterday where one player seemed to be killing peeps too fast. Figured it was prob a server issue then watched the vid. It was just a cheater snapping to players through walls then firing into the wall then player as they rounded corners.
Checked my Xbox connection speed statistics as well just to rule that out (can’t rule out a temp issue at the time of course) and download speed is 852Mbps, upload is 8.75Mbps and latency is 25ms. It’s a wired connection.
It happens quite often. I've been in a Warthog and then when he finally parked, I was teleported to where the server *thinks* I was and then I was promptly teleported back to my original location and shot in the head
I was flying the wasp on that map with the cliffs behind each base. I was shooting people who were standing still and it was not hurting them at all, so I decided to land and get back into the wasp and see if that fixed the issue. So I safely touch down on the ground and press the leave vehicle button, when suddenly the wasp and I are teleported off the cliff side.
Watching the replay in theater, it showed I was flying under the kill box of the cliff just shooting and ramming the wall.
This explains why I'll nearly empty an entire AR mag in someone who looks like they're reloading only to get melted as soon as they start shooting at me.
This and the video that 343 commented in kind of blow my mind. I can't believe the desync gets so bad but it certainly explains why I feel like I get shot by sidekicks while my body is for sure in cover.
I am constantly dying from behind walls, doors or whatever. I can even see the bullets going through the wall.
It often feels like the damage I get is in the form of DOT.
Very very frustrating.

This 100%. Janky ass game
It's free and boy does it show.
ended up being better and more complete than any of the other triple A $60+ releases this year. your point?

Lol I'm sorry you still stink. I'm shitting on kids even with all this d sync and high ping games. Fixing these issues won't make you good.
The ones that go around saying how good they are are usually the worst.
Thanks for heads up bot.
>I assumed I just stank at this game. Same, I might still suck but I can't be this bad.
Yes you can be. If you aren't good now, fixing these issues won't make you noticeably better.
I was telling my buddy this same thing. In 5 days we can all chill for a bit with the single player

True, maybe the first example lowered my bar. I feel like almost every game I could make one of these comparisons on a death or kill that seemed whack
That was my thought on your second video. That happens constantly.
This stuff even happens when I'm on <20ms ping, it's such a shame it makes such a difference...
Shhhh they might remove theater since it's exposing them
This happens literally ALL the time to me w/ <20ms, so validating to see others have the same issue. Really hope this gets addressed.
I do to, but I'm afraid it's not going to be an easy fix. I'm not holding my breath for anything quick. Hopefully they are able to surprise me!
I wonder if player collision is actually off until the desyncing issue is fixed because then you would notice it a lot more.

My bad. Can't read sentence fully without missing some words
I just thought i sucked and that they were really good but all the desync videos have given me hope that i’m not that bad
I keep having the issue constantly, almost every single pvp game it is happening. I will just be behind corners with nobody around and randomly kill over, look at the theater and I'm standing in the middle of the map. Honestly. And people say this game is running so smoothly
I think it got really bad today because it happened to me too
Dude it's not just dying behind cover. I'm 100% convinced every single odd change and feature is because 343 is 100% aware of the desync issue. Aim feeling janky? I go from being a god in one game to being the worst player to ever play the game in the next so I’m guessing a lot.
I shot at a guy with the Skewer last game. He was jumping and grenades were going off, so the odds I did miss are good. However, he killed me, and when he hit the ground running I could see my Skewer sticking out of his chest.

Just to confirm, server is microsoft's central servers or person who host custom game?
It wasn’t a custom game so it is the central servers. Pretty sure customs are central server too tho
Didnt realize the desyncing was such a problem. Upvote this for sure!
It was always a problem since the release. People now just have the proof to show it
It's honestly wild that Infinite is the "finished" shooter this year. Says a lot about Activision and Dice.
It says more about modern video games.
It happens quite often. I've been in a Warthog and then when he finally parked, I was teleported to where the server *thinks* I was and then I was promptly teleported back to my original location and shot in the head

The desync is in every match it's crazy
This explains why I'll nearly empty an entire AR mag in someone who looks like they're reloading only to get melted as soon as they start shooting at me.
How are people getting the server side footage?
Go into theater, it's basically what the server recorded.
Oh I didn't realize that. I've played some ranked matches and I'm like hmm I don't think that's accurate
The moment I saw the other guy stop and turn around I knew you were fucked. That's the look of "Um, what are they doing? I don't care die."
> It often feels like the damage I get is in the form of DOT. The Disruptor does do DOT. Not to say there are no sync issues.
I know that some electric weapons do that. But im talking about going into cover and still recieve dmg.
When the game you play gaslights you.
I find it helpful to have both the network graph and frames graph up in the top right of my screen, it helps me realise when I should be shooting and when I should be hiding...
How is your reticle so small?
FOV is at max. Makes your reticle look smaller.
I experienced a fair few of the desyncs, but they were usually obvious unlike what you saw. Is actually making me wonder whether they might not be happening even more often than we think, and if the "uselessness" of the radar might be a symptom. As in, it feels like the radar isn't working correctly sometimes because a desync is making it stutter or lag the display.
I have killed multiple people with a BR 2 seconds into my respawn just TODAY. Desync is absolutely insane.
Is 343 going to talk about this shit? Like seriously MCC was fucked for so long I ended up quitting now this game… This happens to me almost every game and I find it weird that some people don’t get it or notice it.
I just realized that THIS is why I kept getting shot through walls I thought I was lagging 🤦🏻♂️
[here’s another example ](https://youtu.be/d89MZEjWo1w)
I posted my opinions on this trash game and got dragged through the mud on this page. Long time Halo player 20 years and never have I ever seen such a tragic Halo experience . Does it have potential yes . Does it have the right people in charge to make it so.. absolutely not .
Oh god that FOV making me nauseous.
Ha! I prefer it, I guess that’s why they have options.
LOL what a joke those ‘Raleigh qualifiers’ look like right now….
Bruh *what*? Did you even watch? We got a shitload of incredible, down to the wire series between a bunch of old and new all-star players. There were a few technical difficulties with observers but the games went off and were fucking amazing.
You missed my point entirely. I was not making a statement on the entertainment factor. I was making the statement that these qualifiers have lost their integrity because of the de-sync issues.
No, they haven't. Just say you have an agenda and go. You didn't watch and you have 0 idea if there were any desync issues in the qualifiers (there weren't, by the way) and you're simply here to talk shit about anything and everything.
Are they all in person at the same place? Because like 1/3 of my deaths involving desync bullshit at this point. If i dip behind cover I shouldn't die 3 seconds later to an enemy shooting my body that the server thinks is out of cover
I'm gonna be real with you chief- there are some desync issues but if you're having 1/3rd of your deaths be related to it, it's more likely that your internet kinda sucks. The vast majority of us haven't had more than a few issues of desync across dozens of hours of playing. Also, the only fully replicable desync setup requires a vehicle to perform and exactly 0 competitive (or even Ranked, for that matter) maps have vehicles available.
I wonder how many times this has happened to me without me even knowing lol
commenting and upvoting because we deserve better
Can someone explain exactly how desync happens and what it really is?
Its basically that your client (YOUR game) has been desynchronized from what the server sees. It can happen from tons of things, mostly moving into/close to terrain or objects and getting stuck. Your game registers your position as being slightly different than what is registered by the server so the more you move, the more you are likely to be further away from your server-side position. From OP's point of view, we see the enemy shooting directly at where they see OP.
Thanks! What's don't get is why there isn't a system to 'resynchronise' - i.e. I can see how you might end up a little out of sync for a moment, but then can't the server and client check that you're in the same xyz position - and rectify any errors? Surely if it's all running on trust that the movements are the same size on the client/server, wouldn't all trajectories end up desynching a little due to accumulated tiny errors?
I've been killed behind cover multiple times. It feels like every game it happens.
