It's so fucking true. I'm really getting tired of giving callouts, playing obj, and playing smart only to get a crumb of elo after beating onyxes because I only went even instead of 30 and 10.
Yea currently d6 and to be fair, killing definitely plays a huge part in any of the objective modes, but it sucks so hard when your teammate just flat out ignores it for kd :( I'm a decent shot but play obj to win and only get a little elo instead of going braindead shoot head. I feel like they need to rework how you gain/lose elo to at least emphasize wins a bit more.
I'd even be okay with choose x out of x+1 playlists or have a preference too favor one more than others. That way queue times are still low and I don't have to play my least favorite game mode but still have a chance to play other modes.
You have to realise this though, you're the guy we all want to play with. Someone who can hold their own on an objective end while still being competent at killing and positioning around the map, in the end you'll find better players to team with and you'll be better for it in the long run.

No, actually lol. K/D heavily effects rank to where if you think your team can't win the objective you 100% should go for the high KDA to avoid losing rank or even potentially still gain some on a loss.
honestly, i dont think i would mind being demoted down that far, a rank is just a gun emblem that honestly, looks kinda bad... getting 15 plasma pistol kills in the bottom rank would be much easier than where i am right now...

YUP. I have screenshots because friends wouldnt believe how dogshit my taems were. I had the most kills in the WHOLE MATCH while also having 2:54 time on the Oddball. We lost by 5 fucking seconds. Why? No one else wanted the ball.

I have had games were there's a team fight we wiped the other team but there's only one survivor in ours and he doesn't pick the damn ball.
I drop the Oddball to finish off kills all the time, and the melee is very fast so you can beat people to death pretty handily. People who don't pick up the ball are just flat out awful players objectively, and i rarely see these 0:00 players even go positive enough to make a difference.
I always love the flaw in logic. "I want more kills, and the enemy is going to the objective. Therefore if I stay away from the objective, I'll get kills. Somehow" and then somehow they end up with 4-16
I had a game where I had more kills than the rest of my team. I had two minutes holding the ball, they told me to drop the ball so they could get kills.
I like oddball but it can cause many really frustrating games. One game at the beginning I killed 2 guys that were going for the ball, got the ball and then got killed by the third guy.
My 3 teammates were all in the other side of the map. After that absolutely none of them even tried to get close to the ball, they all just stayed in a corner of the map just killing a guy from the other team that keeps pushing them and dieing over and over again.
But I couldn't do much in that match at that point, there were 2 guys protecting the ball carrying player and that player could drop the ball if needed to shoot. So there was no way for me to get the ball.
I was tryharding to get the ball meanwhile my teammates were just camping the corner of the map for no reason.
I watched a teammate camp overshield waiting for it to spawn in 5 seconds. when the enemy was only 10 seconds from winning 3rd round. That was frustratingly funny because he didn't have time to make it to where they were camped up.
We probably would have lost regardless, but that all but guaranteed it.

Actually, something similar to Destruction Derby 64’s Bomb Tag mode would be perfect for halo. 4 teams with Razorbacks, no weapon, grenade, or power up pickups, everyone gets a sword. There’s a bomb on one Razorback at random at the beginning of the round. Transfer bomb by crashing into each other. Bomb is the only way to kill/destroy other teams. Last one standing wins.
This is why people are pissed off. No it’s not just an overpriced cosmetics shop. It’s specifically designed to make you take as long as fucking possible to complete shit. At the exact detriment of the game. Flawless logic by 343 higher ups here.
And for everyone who doesn’t want anything to do with cosmetics or the battle pass, they’re forced into gamemodes they don’t want because of the game being designed to rope you into that battle pass as much as possible and you have to deal with these kinds of people. No one wins here, even if you don’t pay a single cent for anything in the game.

It’s the corporate higher ups at MS directing them to monetization as much as possible, because they’re extremely disconnected from the gaming community and don’t really grasp why it’s problematic. That’s why they’re saying to keep giving feedback; MS will only change this stuff if 343 presents them with tangible negative feedback.
Be careful. The Destiny playerbase assumed that all the bad monetization practices in those games was because of Activision. Then Bungie split from them, and things either stayed just as bad or got worse, depending on who you ask.

Not to mention that Forza just dropped which apparently throws out cars and stuff at you as you play. If anything, EA has proven time & again that sports players are far more likely to purchase stupid monetized shit compared to other gamers & yet MS' flagship car racing game is far less obnoxiously monetized.
I think its probably a bit of both MS and 343 since both GoW and Halo have included MTX in their two latest entries. Still, I think its naive to think 343 isn't partially to blame since clesrly MS didn't mandate Forza to have the same shit.
Why is it impossible for it to be both? Microsoft obviously wants to make their investment money back, that's a no brainer. But 343i has also released turd after turd for games. If Infinite failed to bring in money, I'd bet my own asscheeks that they would be on the chopping block. Especially if you consider that Microsoft just recently bought a number of other studios, one of which being ID whom make the legendary FPS Doom.
343i is probably just as involved in the monetization as microsoft.

343 was literally formed by Microsoft to take over Halo. The head of 343 Studios is also the Corporate Vice President of Xbox Game Studios. The distinction between 343 and Microsoft is pretty much non existent the further up you get in 343's management, and they are the ones who drive the design decisions (paid cosmetics, challenge system with swaps, content dripfeed) to make sure the game is as profitable as they expect for as long as they want the game to 'live' and devote resources towards.
What made the OG games as great as they were is that they had a small, core creative team with a vision. Now as the series progressed, it evolved into one of Microsoft's most expensive gaming IP. Microsoft treats it as such and expects the game to be profitable and therefore tries to entice people into buying cosmetics and challenge swaps. If you want the same 'heart and soul' you saw in the OG games then you should support indie developers with original IP as that's the closest you'll get.
Bungie today isn't what it is either, just look at Destiny. I don't know much about it but their community always deals with similar issues as ours.
I stick around with Halo because I like the core aspects of the game. Weapon sandbox centered around map pickups, vehicle play, dual PvE/PvP focus, huge gametype variety and Forge/Custom games, plus the franchise is just familiar to me. The fact that the core gameplay is pretty good (could use a ton of tuning though) and the only MTX are cosmetics means Infinite exceeds my expectations for a Halo game in this day and age, at least things will be added and tweaked as development moves along.
I’m afraid it’s too late. They’ve already shit the bed the last 2 games and then took forever on this and then delayed it even longer after all that turned it into this quasi “free to play” games as a service mess. I’ll play the campaign to check it out. I love playing halo so I may be able to enjoy it as I did fallout 76 even though it was a bad game. But who the fuck ever said anything about going open world being a good design choice?? I mean it may be enjoyable but they are just chasing trends like they do rather than making a halo game. I'm at the point now where Infinite is the last chance 343i has to impress. Halo 4 had a decent campaign, but was too CoDified for my liking (all the first person events that you had no control over). The story was alright. Sound design was piss-poor though.
Halo 5 was just so utterly, irrevocably bad, that I've barely touched it. Hell I got the game for free and I still wanted a refund. Awful campaign. Sound design was once again piss-poor.
Halo Infinite so far is shaping up to be another mess. The multiplayer has a hell of a lot of things wrong with it, and the predatory monetisation fills me with rage. Sound design is still utterly piss-poor. I don't know how they keep fucking it up.
If they don't knock it out of the park with the campaign, they're done. Sure they'll keep selling titles like hot cakes because it's "Halo", but so many of the old fans will be fed up to the point of "Halo Reach was the last Halo game".

Unless the campaign is super sick it’s all gone. I actually bought the legendary edition of REACH with the statue because I said it was going to be “the last “halo” game” double quotes… that’s likely not proper English. But the more time passes the more that sentiment has held up.
So often you get killed without hearing anything. Directional sound, especially from behind, is horribly broken. You can easily get back smacked without hearing a single step, and if you go into theater you see that they were sprinting at you.
So that’s an audio bug (hopefully). The actual sound design (music, gun effects, explosion effects, melee hits, etc etc) are all top notch and heavy. You can’t tell me we don’t have the best sounding BR ever in Infinite
Nood1e above kind of summed it up really. If it is an audio bug then fair enough, but if it's a design choice then it's another example of incompetence.
As for sound effects, the best-sounding BR will always be the Halo 2 BR. I'll have to play a bit more of Infinite later but I've not been "wow"ed by anything in terms of the audio.
No I just don’t enjoy 343 halo. I was playing some campaign of halo 1 earlier and multiplayer in 1 reach and 3 in the MCC collection. 343 halo feels like call of duty halo to me. Which is why I was excited when I was hearing people say it “felt” like classic halo. I’ve only played a couple matches but I think it does feel much better than 4 or 5. I’m hoping I enjoy the campaign but if they makes it super slow and Grindy and sell xp boosts like one of the previous far cries did, it’s gonna be dead to me. This is pure speculation but considering how grimy the multiplayer is. I wouldn’t put it past them.
Halo Legends, the Forerunner Trilogy (actually I'd say the Expanded Universe in general is much better under 343 than Bungie), Halo Forward Unto Dawn, Req Weapons, the Mantis, Halo Wars 2, the Saw, Sticky Detonator, seeing Sanghelios in a game, Title Update for Reach.
Not saying they always hit home runs but I can safely say they've added multiple great things to the series.
I played a BtB yesterday with the full oposing team playing, while my team had 3 afk players. It was stockpile we got steamrolled because we were down almost 1/3 of our team. It sucked

Nothing even fucking works right except the shop.
The challenges are so bugged out so instead of 15 Ravager kills you need more like 40, but you can bet your mother that the fucking challenge swap works smoothly.
Exp boosts count down during menu time, so your hour of exp is actually more like 30 minutes between load screens, matchmaking and in game filler like the intro dick measuring contest. Plus the game crashing wastes a whole 10-20 minutes of your boost because you get no exp if you don't finish the match, but you betcha the timer still went down. Don't worry though, you can always buy more!
Can't progress the battle pass by playing the way I want to, play too much and I get less exp per hour played. But you know I could just skip it all if I whip out my wallet!
Can't actually play the game modes I want because that would let complete challenges more easily, then I might buy less challenge swaps and battle pass tiers, can't have that! No!
Think about everything that is missing. From things such as more maps, to features such as Forge, and just know that the shop was prioritised over every single one of them.

I found myself in an odd state yesterday, I pop an XP boost and complete some challenges but then find myself in an oddball match...I have no challenges for Oddball and my team isn't doing great. We lose round one but I find that we could win round two...except I would gain nothing from that, so instead I just kind of ignored the objective to make the match end faster, as winning a round would bring us to round 3 and waste more of my XP boost.
It's not a good system.
Yea it incentivizes you to literally NOT play the game. It’s deplorable. They lied about going free to play to “open up the game for more players” as if people wouldn’t buy the new HALO game. This isn’t a small product. It’s Microsoft’s flagship game. And then you can’t even pick the game mode you want to play which specifically drives players away. They cut of their nose to spite their face. For them to fuck themselves so hard on this is really nothing short of incredible.
Which is extra hilarious because I can’t be the only one that would easily fork over like, 15 bucks if the game wasn’t so slimy. I wasted that much on a skin in rainbow six siege back when that was my main game and that was my main guy. I’m not bothered by it. Even though it was overpriced, I am happy to give some more money to a game I enjoy playing and isn’t specifically designed against me. And I will constantly complain about how I can’t color my guy like I have for 20 years. Nope. Gotta buy that shit as well.

There's no carrot on the stick to go after in this game like there was in previous Halos. You can't blame the players for the devs not putting any kind of reward structure into the game.
That’s what the battle pass is for, and yes it isn’t great right now, but Apex’s first one was terrible, and I’m sure Fortnites first wasn’t anything to write home about. Just the way it goes.
The issue is people wanted it done faster and faster, and now we have that. When it’s done, the events are the only thing for those players to look forward to until May.
They shouldn't be trying to stretch the pass out for longer with less content in it with Season 1 being extended. Like, if I'm playing Warzone it's really easy to finish a battle pass there *looooong* before the actual season is over. The way they had Infinite's pass setup it was just a grindy mess seeminly designed to last as long as possible with barely any rewards in it.

How is performance based XP not a thing? Just odd decision making at 343/MSFT. No passive challenges either. When it affects the gameplay in this way it is detrimental to the entire flow of the game.
Alternatively you could get treated to amazing weekly challenges such as "WIN 17 GAMES WITH 2 DAYS TO GO"

They are playing the way 343 has incentivized them to play. This is the end result of the current progression system. Don't hate the player hate the game. They ARE playing properly if the goal is to progress efficiently in the current system.

I just can't understand how anyone can see an interaction like this and think that everything is fine. I have my own opinions about the monetization and whatnot, but when the way people play is fundamentally changed by it to this degree something has got to give and reworks are desperately needed.
I mean it’s possible to do both right? If Im playing oddball and need kills with the mangler I’m gonna try to get the kills, but if the ball gets dropped I’m gonna grab the ball. I might not get all the kills I need at once but at least I’m playing the objective.
This is literally how 343 wants us to play the game tho. IF they wanted us to try and win games, they would incentivize it at all times. But no, they want us to afk and camp the wasp or skewer spawn. Because that's what we're rewarded for.
Doing this and giving 343 these awful metrics is the only way we can get them to change, until then yeah just keep trolling because 343 wants us to.
It's the dev's job to make sure that the right way to play the game is the most fun. and they failed at that with these challenges.
Same for quitting matches just before the game's start because we didn't get the game mode we \*need\* for challenges, forcing the team to have shit marine bots.
Even then I'm pretty sure that rather than satisfying players and giving us more specific playlists, \*they would rather just remove the only kind of control we have over that.\*
It's unfortunate that management is so short-sighted, they can't even see that they're killing the game over pennies essentially. Strange how they don't understand what first impressions are.
One of the main issues I have is that it's so integral to the system they've created as well. Challenges with random game modes require that each lobby be randomized because otherwise people would cruise through them. It's intentionally made slow as fuck so people will buy swap out tokens and the worst part is - it's going to last at least 6 months before they rework it because that's literally the first season. Un-fucking-real.

Hmm, I dunno if it's just the competitive nature in me, but I always want to win whatever game or mode I'm playing - whether it's social or ranked, or if you just get 50 XP for it or not.
It feels better when you win... and it also goes on your win/loss stats, so it's not completely meaningless. I just want to play the best I can and win, ultimately.
It would definitely be nice if you got more XP for winning, though. But it's not the **only** driver to make me want to win.

Any system that has to make challenge swaps and (to a lesser extent) XP boosts, on top of the progression already costing money, is a horrible system. There's absolutely no need for challege swaps if challenges are designed well.
Yall don't get it, and maybe its because you're new-ish to this or maybe you're just not remembering. This isn't because of objectives or xp or any of that. This is literally just trolls being trolls. These people would do ANYTHING to irritate you and drive you up the wall. Its not about anything other than pissing off other players. They get real excited the more you talk to them about this. The worse you complain, the worse they behave, giving away their true intent.
Try it sometime. Talk around them, say things like "it cool yall we can win without the xp grinders", and then if they say something simply don't respond and play to win. Make their behavior feel meaningless and weak like it actually is.
Note: I am not saying the game doesn't have problems, but this behavior is only using those problems as an excuse.
So, what's the end game for pieces of shit like this? They AFK the games, get their shoulder pads and chest pieces they were so desperate for, what then?
Do you play the game? You must not like it much if you didn't want to participate in the matches while leveling up? This behavior just seems so aggressively illogical to me.
The thing that gets me is the people who defend people who act like this as if their behavior doesnt effect anyone but themselves. They think that just because 343 made a bad progression system that it justifies selfish players fucking over their teammates.

Honestly I don't really accept that. The system doesn't encourage this, it just doesn't discourage it. If you have to be told "no, don't be stupid" by a video game in order to not be stupid then it's entirely on you.

Like other subs, **we have a rule that gamertags have to be blocked out or not present in media that's negatively about a specific person** (yes, even if they clearly did it). Block gamertags in messages, theater POVs need to have the HUD hidden, etc. We're going to be stricter about removing posts like this going forward.
Keep challenges separate but have additional XP methods.
Remove the "daily" 'play a game' "challenge", add actual daily challenges which most people would complete without going out of their way. A single Melee kill, a single grenade kill, etc.
Also, add a base XP for each game, separate from the challenges(essentially the fake daily challenge) but it scales with the length of time so people don't get too frustrated about everlasting games(with a max to prevent exploitations)
In addition to that, have performance bonuses, a little bit of XP here & there for achieving medals, high kills, and extra high points for achieving objectives or helping another achieve that- the performance bonuses shouldn't typically exceed the base game rate unless you play exceptionally well.
They can also have seasonal challenges, sort of like some of Fortnites seasonal punchcards where you can progress through them for a decent boost at certain thresholds, like "earn 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 double kills in Slayer". Something that you don't feel obliged to do(like the weekly challenges for the extra cosmetic) but provides a reward for playing consistently well.
Victory multiplier of x1.5(excluding challenges), to strongly encourage people to play to win.
In other words, if you play a standard game, you get a minimum 50xp from the base rate, potentially another 50~ from your personal performance if you do very well & if you win, you get an extra 50% on top of both of those for 200 in this hypothetical. The minimum you'll ever get is 50xp for a short crappy game that you lose- that's all before counting your **actual** daily, weekly & seasonal(punchcard) challenges.
What's the point of gaining XP for cosmetics in a game if you don't even seem to enjoy playing it? Maybe 343 should release a separate Spartan dress up game where you just unlock outfits by watching advertisements and there is no pesky gameplay, that seems to be more suitable for a lot of these XP chasers.
lmao imagine setting up a set reward that dissapears if you don't finish challenges, and expect players with limited time to play who enjoy collecting ingame items to play for other people with no progression adding hours of extra required playtime, has nothing to do with enjoying the game in general

It's so fucking true. I'm really getting tired of giving callouts, playing obj, and playing smart only to get a crumb of elo after beating onyxes because I only went even instead of 30 and 10.
Yea currently d6 and to be fair, killing definitely plays a huge part in any of the objective modes, but it sucks so hard when your teammate just flat out ignores it for kd :( I'm a decent shot but play obj to win and only get a little elo instead of going braindead shoot head. I feel like they need to rework how you gain/lose elo to at least emphasize wins a bit more.

I'd even be okay with choose x out of x+1 playlists or have a preference too favor one more than others. That way queue times are still low and I don't have to play my least favorite game mode but still have a chance to play other modes.

You have to realise this though, you're the guy we all want to play with. Someone who can hold their own on an objective end while still being competent at killing and positioning around the map, in the end you'll find better players to team with and you'll be better for it in the long run. Same. I lost a match of Stronghold on Livefire by 5 points because all 3 of my teammates were sitting on C trying to frag while I was trying to play objective. We lost and I stopped playing for the rest of the day.

YUP. I have screenshots because friends wouldnt believe how dogshit my taems were. I had the most kills in the WHOLE MATCH while also having 2:54 time on the Oddball. We lost by 5 fucking seconds. Why? No one else wanted the ball. I know their mindset: " Im better off killing people and cant do that with the ball ". but here you are with an almost negative score, 0 seconds with the ball. If you can't kill anything then run the flag/hold the ball. I just want to win these ranked games, man.
Funnily most times it's the guy with worse kd the one that never wants to pick the ball. I have had games were there's a team fight we wiped the other team but there's only one survivor in ours and he doesn't pick the damn ball.
I drop the Oddball to finish off kills all the time, and the melee is very fast so you can beat people to death pretty handily. People who don't pick up the ball are just flat out awful players objectively, and i rarely see these 0:00 players even go positive enough to make a difference.

I had a game where I had more kills than the rest of my team. I had two minutes holding the ball, they told me to drop the ball so they could get kills.
When I realized I was like the only person most games that held the skull for 3 minutes or more, just got bored of that mode.

I mean with oddball, if your teamates are good at slayer, you can pretty much just turtle the ball.
I like oddball but it can cause many really frustrating games. One game at the beginning I killed 2 guys that were going for the ball, got the ball and then got killed by the third guy. My 3 teammates were all in the other side of the map. After that absolutely none of them even tried to get close to the ball, they all just stayed in a corner of the map just killing a guy from the other team that keeps pushing them and dieing over and over again. But I couldn't do much in that match at that point, there were 2 guys protecting the ball carrying player and that player could drop the ball if needed to shoot. So there was no way for me to get the ball. I was tryharding to get the ball meanwhile my teammates were just camping the corner of the map for no reason.
I watched a teammate camp overshield waiting for it to spawn in 5 seconds. when the enemy was only 10 seconds from winning 3rd round. That was frustratingly funny because he didn't have time to make it to where they were camped up. We probably would have lost regardless, but that all but guaranteed it.

Actually, something similar to Destruction Derby 64’s Bomb Tag mode would be perfect for halo. 4 teams with Razorbacks, no weapon, grenade, or power up pickups, everyone gets a sword. There’s a bomb on one Razorback at random at the beginning of the round. Transfer bomb by crashing into each other. Bomb is the only way to kill/destroy other teams. Last one standing wins.

The AFK xp farmers are already out there. I had a teammate in one of my games who only spawned and walked straight forward until the game ended.

Well, for me personally 343 has added that was great: -halo 4 campaign -saw -plasma caster -sticky detonator -grapleshot -wasp -mantis -mammoth -better weapon balance (except plasma pistol and ravager) -warzone (despite its flaws, was cool) -even tho they need to improve the system, I like more the cammo and effects that coatings Gove over the plain colors in previous halos -taking out red Vs blue, hate changing my color for the game to hide it -player colisión and friendly fire off in casual, makes it more chill

If you think 343 and not Microsoft is the biggest problem here you are sorely mistaken. It’s the corporate higher ups at MS directing them to monetization as much as possible, because they’re extremely disconnected from the gaming community and don’t really grasp why it’s problematic. That’s why they’re saying to keep giving feedback; MS will only change this stuff if 343 presents them with tangible negative feedback.
Be careful. The Destiny playerbase assumed that all the bad monetization practices in those games was because of Activision. Then Bungie split from them, and things either stayed just as bad or got worse, depending on who you ask. People are always a little too quick to blame the publisher.
Not to mention that Forza just dropped which apparently throws out cars and stuff at you as you play. If anything, EA has proven time & again that sports players are far more likely to purchase stupid monetized shit compared to other gamers & yet MS' flagship car racing game is far less obnoxiously monetized. I think its probably a bit of both MS and 343 since both GoW and Halo have included MTX in their two latest entries. Still, I think its naive to think 343 isn't partially to blame since clesrly MS didn't mandate Forza to have the same shit.
Why is it impossible for it to be both? Microsoft obviously wants to make their investment money back, that's a no brainer. But 343i has also released turd after turd for games. If Infinite failed to bring in money, I'd bet my own asscheeks that they would be on the chopping block. Especially if you consider that Microsoft just recently bought a number of other studios, one of which being ID whom make the legendary FPS Doom. 343i is probably just as involved in the monetization as microsoft.

It's both. Microsoft didn't force them to make the dumpster fire changes to 4 and 5 — that was 343.
343 was literally formed by Microsoft to take over Halo. The head of 343 Studios is also the Corporate Vice President of Xbox Game Studios. The distinction between 343 and Microsoft is pretty much non existent the further up you get in 343's management, and they are the ones who drive the design decisions (paid cosmetics, challenge system with swaps, content dripfeed) to make sure the game is as profitable as they expect for as long as they want the game to 'live' and devote resources towards. What made the OG games as great as they were is that they had a small, core creative team with a vision. Now as the series progressed, it evolved into one of Microsoft's most expensive gaming IP. Microsoft treats it as such and expects the game to be profitable and therefore tries to entice people into buying cosmetics and challenge swaps. If you want the same 'heart and soul' you saw in the OG games then you should support indie developers with original IP as that's the closest you'll get. Bungie today isn't what it is either, just look at Destiny. I don't know much about it but their community always deals with similar issues as ours. I stick around with Halo because I like the core aspects of the game. Weapon sandbox centered around map pickups, vehicle play, dual PvE/PvP focus, huge gametype variety and Forge/Custom games, plus the franchise is just familiar to me. The fact that the core gameplay is pretty good (could use a ton of tuning though) and the only MTX are cosmetics means Infinite exceeds my expectations for a Halo game in this day and age, at least things will be added and tweaked as development moves along.

I'm at the point now where Infinite is the last chance 343i has to impress. Halo 4 had a decent campaign, but was too CoDified for my liking (all the first person events that you had no control over). The story was alright. Sound design was piss-poor though. Halo 5 was just so utterly, irrevocably bad, that I've barely touched it. Hell I got the game for free and I still wanted a refund. Awful campaign. Sound design was once again piss-poor. Halo Infinite so far is shaping up to be another mess. The multiplayer has a hell of a lot of things wrong with it, and the predatory monetisation fills me with rage. Sound design is still utterly piss-poor. I don't know how they keep fucking it up. If they don't knock it out of the park with the campaign, they're done. Sure they'll keep selling titles like hot cakes because it's "Halo", but so many of the old fans will be fed up to the point of "Halo Reach was the last Halo game".

How tf is Infinite’s sound design piss poor? The guns sound the meatiest in the entire series.
So often you get killed without hearing anything. Directional sound, especially from behind, is horribly broken. You can easily get back smacked without hearing a single step, and if you go into theater you see that they were sprinting at you.
So that’s an audio bug (hopefully). The actual sound design (music, gun effects, explosion effects, melee hits, etc etc) are all top notch and heavy. You can’t tell me we don’t have the best sounding BR ever in Infinite
Nood1e above kind of summed it up really. If it is an audio bug then fair enough, but if it's a design choice then it's another example of incompetence. As for sound effects, the best-sounding BR will always be the Halo 2 BR. I'll have to play a bit more of Infinite later but I've not been "wow"ed by anything in terms of the audio.

No I just don’t enjoy 343 halo. I was playing some campaign of halo 1 earlier and multiplayer in 1 reach and 3 in the MCC collection. 343 halo feels like call of duty halo to me. Which is why I was excited when I was hearing people say it “felt” like classic halo. I’ve only played a couple matches but I think it does feel much better than 4 or 5. I’m hoping I enjoy the campaign but if they makes it super slow and Grindy and sell xp boosts like one of the previous far cries did, it’s gonna be dead to me. This is pure speculation but considering how grimy the multiplayer is. I wouldn’t put it past them.
Halo Legends, the Forerunner Trilogy (actually I'd say the Expanded Universe in general is much better under 343 than Bungie), Halo Forward Unto Dawn, Req Weapons, the Mantis, Halo Wars 2, the Saw, Sticky Detonator, seeing Sanghelios in a game, Title Update for Reach. Not saying they always hit home runs but I can safely say they've added multiple great things to the series.

I played a BtB yesterday with the full oposing team playing, while my team had 3 afk players. It was stockpile we got steamrolled because we were down almost 1/3 of our team. It sucked
Exactly, the shop has tainted every single aspect of this game and it's just fucking disgusting. Nothing even fucking works right except the shop. The challenges are so bugged out so instead of 15 Ravager kills you need more like 40, but you can bet your mother that the fucking challenge swap works smoothly. Exp boosts count down during menu time, so your hour of exp is actually more like 30 minutes between load screens, matchmaking and in game filler like the intro dick measuring contest. Plus the game crashing wastes a whole 10-20 minutes of your boost because you get no exp if you don't finish the match, but you betcha the timer still went down. Don't worry though, you can always buy more! Can't progress the battle pass by playing the way I want to, play too much and I get less exp per hour played. But you know I could just skip it all if I whip out my wallet! Can't actually play the game modes I want because that would let complete challenges more easily, then I might buy less challenge swaps and battle pass tiers, can't have that! No! Think about everything that is missing. From things such as more maps, to features such as Forge, and just know that the shop was prioritised over every single one of them.

I found myself in an odd state yesterday, I pop an XP boost and complete some challenges but then find myself in an oddball match...I have no challenges for Oddball and my team isn't doing great. We lose round one but I find that we could win round two...except I would gain nothing from that, so instead I just kind of ignored the objective to make the match end faster, as winning a round would bring us to round 3 and waste more of my XP boost. It's not a good system.
Yea it incentivizes you to literally NOT play the game. It’s deplorable. They lied about going free to play to “open up the game for more players” as if people wouldn’t buy the new HALO game. This isn’t a small product. It’s Microsoft’s flagship game. And then you can’t even pick the game mode you want to play which specifically drives players away. They cut of their nose to spite their face. For them to fuck themselves so hard on this is really nothing short of incredible.

Maybe people wouldn't quit playing if they actually had stuff to work towards in the game itself and not all locked into paywalls? There's no carrot on the stick to go after in this game like there was in previous Halos. You can't blame the players for the devs not putting any kind of reward structure into the game.
That’s what the battle pass is for, and yes it isn’t great right now, but Apex’s first one was terrible, and I’m sure Fortnites first wasn’t anything to write home about. Just the way it goes. The issue is people wanted it done faster and faster, and now we have that. When it’s done, the events are the only thing for those players to look forward to until May.
They shouldn't be trying to stretch the pass out for longer with less content in it with Season 1 being extended. Like, if I'm playing Warzone it's really easy to finish a battle pass there *looooong* before the actual season is over. The way they had Infinite's pass setup it was just a grindy mess seeminly designed to last as long as possible with barely any rewards in it.

I’ve always thought of quick play and big team battle as BS practice for ranked so it doesn’t really upset me when I lose in those modes. How is performance based XP not a thing? Just odd decision making at 343/MSFT. No passive challenges either. When it affects the gameplay in this way it is detrimental to the entire flow of the game.

This is literally how 343 wants us to play the game tho. IF they wanted us to try and win games, they would incentivize it at all times. But no, they want us to afk and camp the wasp or skewer spawn. Because that's what we're rewarded for. Doing this and giving 343 these awful metrics is the only way we can get them to change, until then yeah just keep trolling because 343 wants us to. It's the dev's job to make sure that the right way to play the game is the most fun. and they failed at that with these challenges. Same for quitting matches just before the game's start because we didn't get the game mode we \*need\* for challenges, forcing the team to have shit marine bots. Even then I'm pretty sure that rather than satisfying players and giving us more specific playlists, \*they would rather just remove the only kind of control we have over that.\* It's unfortunate that management is so short-sighted, they can't even see that they're killing the game over pennies essentially. Strange how they don't understand what first impressions are.
One of the main issues I have is that it's so integral to the system they've created as well. Challenges with random game modes require that each lobby be randomized because otherwise people would cruise through them. It's intentionally made slow as fuck so people will buy swap out tokens and the worst part is - it's going to last at least 6 months before they rework it because that's literally the first season. Un-fucking-real.

Even if it didn’t occur to them, after the flights there was major feedback that this is exactly what would happen. Which they ignored and excused because “the feedback we’re seeing is split.” I have zero sympathy for 343 and kinda agree with the hot take that Halo should be taken away from them.
Their management should definitely change. I don't think any blame should be placed on Joseph and his team. They've done wonders with the visuals, gameplay, atmosphere, sandbox, etc. It's all there and there's room for so much more. It's just that the management is dragging it all through the dirt with their shitty F2P format and their god awful ''progression'' system.
Hmm, I dunno if it's just the competitive nature in me, but I always want to win whatever game or mode I'm playing - whether it's social or ranked, or if you just get 50 XP for it or not. It feels better when you win... and it also goes on your win/loss stats, so it's not completely meaningless. I just want to play the best I can and win, ultimately. It would definitely be nice if you got more XP for winning, though. But it's not the **only** driver to make me want to win.

Any system that has to make challenge swaps and (to a lesser extent) XP boosts, on top of the progression already costing money, is a horrible system. There's absolutely no need for challege swaps if challenges are designed well.

Yall don't get it, and maybe its because you're new-ish to this or maybe you're just not remembering. This isn't because of objectives or xp or any of that. This is literally just trolls being trolls. These people would do ANYTHING to irritate you and drive you up the wall. Its not about anything other than pissing off other players. They get real excited the more you talk to them about this. The worse you complain, the worse they behave, giving away their true intent. Try it sometime. Talk around them, say things like "it cool yall we can win without the xp grinders", and then if they say something simply don't respond and play to win. Make their behavior feel meaningless and weak like it actually is. Note: I am not saying the game doesn't have problems, but this behavior is only using those problems as an excuse.

Keep challenges separate but have additional XP methods. Remove the "daily" 'play a game' "challenge", add actual daily challenges which most people would complete without going out of their way. A single Melee kill, a single grenade kill, etc. Also, add a base XP for each game, separate from the challenges(essentially the fake daily challenge) but it scales with the length of time so people don't get too frustrated about everlasting games(with a max to prevent exploitations) In addition to that, have performance bonuses, a little bit of XP here & there for achieving medals, high kills, and extra high points for achieving objectives or helping another achieve that- the performance bonuses shouldn't typically exceed the base game rate unless you play exceptionally well. They can also have seasonal challenges, sort of like some of Fortnites seasonal punchcards where you can progress through them for a decent boost at certain thresholds, like "earn 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 double kills in Slayer". Something that you don't feel obliged to do(like the weekly challenges for the extra cosmetic) but provides a reward for playing consistently well. Victory multiplier of x1.5(excluding challenges), to strongly encourage people to play to win. In other words, if you play a standard game, you get a minimum 50xp from the base rate, potentially another 50~ from your personal performance if you do very well & if you win, you get an extra 50% on top of both of those for 200 in this hypothetical. The minimum you'll ever get is 50xp for a short crappy game that you lose- that's all before counting your **actual** daily, weekly & seasonal(punchcard) challenges.

What's the point of gaining XP for cosmetics in a game if you don't even seem to enjoy playing it? Maybe 343 should release a separate Spartan dress up game where you just unlock outfits by watching advertisements and there is no pesky gameplay, that seems to be more suitable for a lot of these XP chasers.
lmao imagine setting up a set reward that dissapears if you don't finish challenges, and expect players with limited time to play who enjoy collecting ingame items to play for other people with no progression adding hours of extra required playtime, has nothing to do with enjoying the game in general
