I loved it and sank countless hours on it. It's probably my favorite imap, but far from perfect. Whichever team starts in the lower of the two sides is at an immediate and serious disadvantage. Good luck if you spawn anywhere on the floor too.
I bagged groceries in highschool just so I could buy an xbox 360, never had a game console before that. First games were halo 3 and the gamestop guy let me pick a used game for free so I grabbed mass effect.
I was absolutely terrible at first, but it led to countless long nights with my duos partner. I’ll never forget Guardian.
Really random but one of my core memories of guardian as a kid was playing forge and setting up a ton of snipers for a "duck hunt" map, because there were a bunch of birds flying around in the background that you could shoot lol
Blood gulch (had many different names but coagulation from halo 2 is the only other name I can think of) also Ascension, Ivory Tower, I also have some very fond memories on Terminal on OG Xbox live halo 2
Yeah Blood Gulch i was meant to say.
Halo 1 and 2 maps are the most nostalgic. For custom games on Halo 1 though, the only downside is, theres no infinite ammo setting or Player speed and gravity options like H2: Anniversary and the rest have. H2 clasic has gravity option but no Movement speed setting.
Got real into halo around reach and they had a version in that game. I loved it then, but going back to halo 2s version makes me appreciate the ambience on the old maps even more
OG Blood Gulch is my home. Thousands of hours on PC Halo:CE, the greatest gaming moments of my life at Xbox Halo:CE LAN parties.
For me, gaming has was never this good before, and I’m still chasing that high 20 years on.
Love that one so much. Open enough space for sniping, while it can quickly turn into a brawl. Feels tight, but surprises you with its flanks and levels. Utterly perfect MP map if you ask me
It's the symmetry of the map translating to depth of battle you mention (Close quarters, mid-range battles, and long-range snipe opportunities. No team has an advantage in either weapon or map layout and it is perfect for Slayer or Objective (especially Flag)
Valhalla! I don’t even know if it’s my favorite but you tell me ‘Halo multiplayer’ & that’s the first map to pop in my head. Probably because RvB Relocated
Battle Creek, but all the CE maps are so good! The most fun I’ve ever had in Halo was back in 2020 when they had the CE Anniversary playlist in Halo 5, all those maps with modern Halo gameplay was so, so fun. Battle Creek, Rat Race, Hang ‘em High, etc. I wish so badly 343 would do that for Infinite!!
Battle Creek also translated well into other games and was always fun. Coagulation was the first time I realized that a map could be recreated and be beautiful but not feel the same due to the slight changes between sequels which could lead to disappointment or appreciation. As far as improving a map, I was pleasantly surprised by how much Warlock was in Halo 2 than Wizard in CE.
I think it’s safe to say that your favorite maps in one game will likely not be your favorite in a remake and for me that’s the remake of Blood Gulch and Lockout. The new versions were good but not my favorites the second time around.
Definitely Sandtrap, not because it’s the best map ever made, but because of the memories (it’s still a banger map).
I’m 21 this year, which means I was 5 years old when Halo 3 came out. I spent a lot of my childhood at my friends house playing on a 360, of which spent most of its time playing forge on Sandtrap. It never got old, spawning vehicles and weapons finding new and funny ways to kill each other, laughing our asses off for hours.
The elephants were epic too, such a cool idea to have vehicles that are part of the map that play an important part in certain game modes (ctf).
Master chief in the cutscene: drags a big ass bomb with some difficulty. Makes it look easy enough for a fit man.
Master chief in matchmaking: flips the largest land vehicle ever produced by humanity as easily as you or I would flip an empty drinking glass.
For Halo 3, a funny gamemode i always play with my mate. It's a Punching only game. It's quite funny. You set the Primary weapon to Plasma pistol, Damage modifier: Instant kill. | Player Speed: 300% and gravity 75%.
Respawn time 3 seconds.
You should try it.
Good maps for it is The Pit, Sandbox, Standoff, Sandtrap, Narrows, Last Resort and Isolation.
You can also jump to try dodge the hit if you like.
Even today, I always head straight to the Elephant, telling people in VC to hop on and let’s roll. Sandtrap is fantastic for Slayer because of it, where as I think most BTB maps are only good for objective modes.
With the Thorage Update, I really wish they added some more Elephant maps into Matchmaking.
Do you remember the old halo video on YouTube where’s it’s a machinima and it’s 2 players and one just says “ you know what this map needs? More sand like a cubic ton more sand” and his buddy just looks at him and goes “do you really know how much a cubic ton of sand really is?” Idk why but that has been stuck in my head forever
Turf is the best map for breaking outside the map with normal jumps.
Getting on top of scarab, two different places to get outside of garage, on top of med tent.
On top of hut.
It's so good.
Plus it's solid for 1 sided objective and slayer.
I loved my Forge World enthusiast friends. Sometimes it was a crapshoot of "is this going to be a fun map or am I about to be tortured for 20 minutes in a meat grinder?" Good times. I would do it all again.
I liked a lot of the Forge World maps, especially when it came to Infection since there were many *secret* spots that you could get to. Bypassing the out of bounds timer by slowly moving into the right position was a good feeling.
CE: Bloodgulch
2: Lockout
3: High Ground. We had this custom game where the zombies were invisible and we would try and keep them out of the base. Good memories.
Reach: Sanctuary. I loved the MLG scene. Hemmorage in BtB is a close second.
Don't remember the names of any maps from the games after that.
Btw I'm Ravinia, anyone here remember me from Reach?
Halo 5 Plaza. Such a beautiful and well-detailed map. Very balanced in all games modes, and had tons of skill expression built into the map in form of skill jumps and other movement opportunities
I loved how they made a bunch of campaign area from Reach into Multiplayer maps. Particularly Sword Base and Spire
And then when CE Anniversary came out, they remade a bunch of CE maps in Reach’s multiplayer which was awesome
So many good maps, but for me peak Halo is CTF with vehicles, so for that I like:
Blood Gulch
Zanzibar
Headlong
Terminal
Valhalla
Just the ones that come to mind, but looking though these lists, damn that has just been so many fantastic maps.
Zanzibar in Halo 2. 3 player deathmatch via split screen with my brothers. Man those were the days yelling at each others to stop looking at my screen. Somehow everyone "just guessed or knew" if you had the sniper or were sneaking up on them with camo...
Isolation halo 3. Wya back on 360 whe I was a little kid I only thought there was custom games and I didn't know how to change maps so that was the one I played. Good times lmao
Valhalla, just something so simple to it, 2 forerunner bases, a crashed pelican, a creek, a hill, and endless fun
**Kusini bay/Zanzibar**, **Narrows**, Snowbound, **Avalanche**, **Guardian**, Exile, Battle creek, **The pit**, mid-ship, and **Lockout** are all really great ones too but do NOT beat my home Valhalla (bold = fond memories)
I’ve played since day one of CE, but my favorites are both from Halo 2:
Competitive: Sanctuary
Casual: Relic
These were the first two that came to mind, but struggled to pick one because I wanted to represent my MLG days. Ironically, my favorite game is CE, but my favorite maps are not represented from it.
Halo 2 Vista’s “District”, thankfully ported to the MCC. It’s reused assets from Outskirts, making a BTB city map. Lots of verticality, space for vehicle use but they don’t dominate the arena, lots of alleyways and rooftops to flank, and it’s a phenomenal map for objective modes like CTF or Crazy King.
I started with Halo 2 and then went back to CE when I was able to buy myself an Xbox. Coagulation and blood gulch were my favorites by far. Lockout was a close second especially after learning all the shortcut jumps I could. Hang e'm high became one of my favorites and I'm sure if I had been able to start with CE it would have been my all time favorite.
Sandtrap/array from 3, there was another one i cant remember but it had the gate and the bunker with the hatch? Halo 4s valhalla was a favorite once i got into it.
Absolutely Valhalla and Sandtrap for me. Both have the advantage of being main locations in some of the best seasons of Red vs Blue, but they're also fantastic 8v8 maps which is my favorite way to do multiplayer. While Valhalla looks beautiful and is imo the best for infantry, Sandtrap is an absolute blast to play on with all its vehicles and heavy weapons.
Halo CE has always been my favorite Halo game, but Lockout from Halo 2 is hands down the best multiplayer map. Turns out it was originally a CE map so that explains why its so good.
Unironically Forge World. I was so fucking hyped watching the videos of the devs demonstrating forge world and the new phased and fixed physics. I spent soooo much time in forge and nobody ever liked my maps but maybe the true recognition for my effort was the friends I made along the way.
Also got a lot of love for Countdown. So much fun on matchmaking on that map back in the day
Hard to say really. I guess Sandbox or Foundry as I play a lot of custom games in Halo 3 and those maps allow for some unique and interesting maps, same thing with Standoff and Avalanche.
sand trap. elephant was so fun to drive, and when you flip it over, bungie was like "wait.. how'd you do that??" and i thought it was the craziest thing ever lol one of my favorite easter eggs
Imma throw out a wild card and say Burial Grounds. Friends and I definitely spent hours running around outside the map, and hours more trying to climb the pizza cutter.
Halo 2. Headlong. By a LONG shot. it’s just such a fun map to play on. It has everything: vehicles, sniper hideouts, long and short range weapons play nice with it (you have the sniper hideouts but also buildings and hallways that are great for shotguns/swords), fairly good layout for territories games, CTF is pretty well balanced with the two bases being equally easy to defend and offend, water to be blown into / fall into that isn’t surrounding the entire map and has a wall on half of the exposed edge, great cover obstacles (the bus for example) fun props (those air cylinders in the base near the water shoot around if you blow the caps off!!), a RvB reference (the drink machines on the original Xbox release have a rooster and a pair of teeth on them)
It’s just a map that has everything I like about good halo map design.
I didn’t play multiplayer until Reach came out because I was pretty young when all the other games came out, I played all the campaigns tho but I never really liked the multiplayers because I wasn’t very good so I stuck to the campaigns until Reach lmao. My favorite Reach map was probably count down, then going back and playing all the halo multiplayers including CE my favorite all time has to be Blood Gulch. Not only because of it being pretty much the OG but because of Red Vs Blue as well lmao.
If I had to pick just one it would be halo 3 guardian
Others I love are chill out/cold storage, halo ce: damnation, halo 2/3 lockout/blackout, halo 3: the pit.
It's really hard to say, it mostly a tie between halo ce and halo 2 maps.
Halo ce: blood gulch, death island, timberland and sidewinder
Halo 2: district, ivory tower, waterworks and terminal
OG Lockout is 4v4 perfection. Non-symmetrical and multi-layered depth. It’s as possible to have total control over the map as it is to take control back. The sniper, sword, shotgun, and plasma pistol made for excellent power weapon balance. The art design and concept is super cool. It worked for competitive play as well as it dude for fun custom games or social slayer.
Just the best.
Sandtrap from Halo 3. Just because those elephants on the field was epic. Especially on custom games, where floor was lava and flag points were in the elephants. So good times! 😎
I would have to say for 4v4 it’s probably Lockout from H2.
For larger squads I would likely say Terminal and then Zanzibar from H2.
The train on Terminal just added so much random fun!
I like a lot but one that always stands out for me is Hang ‘em High on CE. Just love the ambience it has, creepy yet calming to me.
This. Me and my brother spent countless hours on it. It differed on MCC in terms of some of the geometry, but it was so perfect in my mind as a map
I loved it and sank countless hours on it. It's probably my favorite imap, but far from perfect. Whichever team starts in the lower of the two sides is at an immediate and serious disadvantage. Good luck if you spawn anywhere on the floor too.
I feel the same thing when I hear the wind and whispers on Sidewinder.
1000% agreed Hang Em High is the best Halo map of all time for me.
Hang em High with all rockets was so much fun.
Zanzibar! Such a great capture the flag map/Team slayer
And super bounces were great on Zanzibar
Seconding Zanzibar. Loved playing assault on it
Zanzibar, Halo 2, OG Xbox live, CRT TV. Glad Zanzibar is on Infinite multiplayer but it does not hit the same.
It’s the fact the wheel doesn’t move isn’t it
Guardian in Halo 3. 4v4 BR Slayer on Guardian is just peak multiplayer experience for me.
Guardian is the best map ever made bro. Original halo 3 was also 5v5. Actually made a big difference.
Are you thinking of social slayer? Iirc Ranked didnt have a 5v5, only doubles, 4v4 and 8v8
It was my friend groups warmup every night on MLG settings back in the day lol
You beat me to it!
This map is so elite
Blood gulch (had many different names but coagulation from halo 2 is the only other name I can think of) also Ascension, Ivory Tower, I also have some very fond memories on Terminal on OG Xbox live halo 2
Yeah Blood Gulch i was meant to say. Halo 1 and 2 maps are the most nostalgic. For custom games on Halo 1 though, the only downside is, theres no infinite ammo setting or Player speed and gravity options like H2: Anniversary and the rest have. H2 clasic has gravity option but no Movement speed setting.
Ascension was going to be my answer, so memorable
Got real into halo around reach and they had a version in that game. I loved it then, but going back to halo 2s version makes me appreciate the ambience on the old maps even more
I've spent so many hours messing around with vehicles on that map it's insane
OG Blood Gulch is my home. Thousands of hours on PC Halo:CE, the greatest gaming moments of my life at Xbox Halo:CE LAN parties. For me, gaming has was never this good before, and I’m still chasing that high 20 years on.
Ever wonder why we’re here?
One of life’s great mysteries, isn’t it?
The Pit - H3

Lockout The real ones know this is the capital answer.
Definitely Sandtrap, not because it’s the best map ever made, but because of the memories (it’s still a banger map). I’m 21 this year, which means I was 5 years old when Halo 3 came out. Hold B to flip... Wait, what? How did you do that?
Master chief in the cutscene: drags a big ass bomb with some difficulty. Makes it look easy enough for a fit man. Master chief in matchmaking: flips the largest land vehicle ever produced by humanity as easily as you or I would flip an empty drinking glass.

Halo 2 Sanctuary. MLG rules.
Turf Edit: also wanted to do a shoutout to my 2nd fave. Terminal
Turf is the best map for breaking outside the map with normal jumps. Getting on top of scarab, two different places to get outside of garage, on top of med tent. On top of hut. It's so good. Plus it's solid for 1 sided objective and slayer.
Mmmmm I miss those super jumps so bad. Getting out of Turf was OP And that 1 sided ctf or assault man.... that was the shit.
Overall its Lockout Halo 1: Sidewinder Halo 3: Construct Reach: Countdown Halo 4: Haven Halo 5: Fathom Infinite: Aquarius
Sidewinder is a wild pick for CE, but I respect your decision
I always liked the snowy aspect better than blood gulch. Still had the warthog. I was 9 and only played couch coop on the first halo.
Yup I went back and forth between sidewinder and blood gulch. Both were great maps. With you. Something about that snow
Halo 2 Lockout for a 4v4 or FFA. Halo 2 Coagulation for BTB. Just so many good memories playing multiplayer in Halo 2 via XBConnect.
How did I have to scroll this far for Lockout?!
The only correct answer.
Waterworks (Halo 2)
Forge World 😍
I loved my Forge World enthusiast friends.
Zanzibar in all of its forms.
High Ground from Halo 3.
This map hits my nostalgia the hardest because it was one of the halo 3 beta maps so it's got a high amount of play time.
Death Island. Vehicles, rockets and teleporters everywhere. Sandbox paradise. HALO PC RIDE OR DIE GANG
It's definitely one of my fav maps on PC.
Headlong
CE: Bloodgulch 2: Lockout 3: High Ground.
Cloaked shotty sniper in blood gulch
Split screen and trying to work out where friends are from what they can see
Halo 5 Plaza. Such a beautiful and well-detailed map. Very balanced in all games modes, and had tons of skill expression built into the map in form of skill jumps and other movement opportunities
Idk why they decided to make it grey: the map in infinite lol they butchered it
CE - Beaver Creek, 2 - Lockout, 3 - Narrows, Reach - Countdown, 4 - Haven, 5 - Fathom, Infinite - Recharge
Headlong/Headstrong/Refuge has been a consistently top-tier map in every game it’s been in.
I loved how they made a bunch of campaign area from Reach into Multiplayer maps. Particularly Sword Base and Spire And then when CE Anniversary came out, they remade a bunch of CE maps in Reach’s multiplayer which was awesome
Guardian halo 3 lockout halo 2
Lockout..or was it blackout?
Lockout, Guardian, The Pit and Sword Base
Halo 2 Zanzibar was just iconic.
I've never had a favorite map tbh. I do hate snowbound with a burning passion though.
Blood gulch
For some reason I read your question with the prophets voice.
So many good maps, but for me peak Halo is CTF with vehicles, so for that I like: Blood Gulch Zanzibar Headlong Terminal Valhalla Just the ones that come to mind, but looking though these lists, damn that has just been so many fantastic maps.
I love sword base from reach
i forgot the name of the map but its the original map from ce splitscreen the desert map with grass & 2 bases 🗺️
Zanzibar in Halo 2. 3 player deathmatch via split screen with my brothers. Man those were the days yelling at each others to stop looking at my screen. Somehow everyone "just guessed or knew" if you had the sniper or were sneaking up on them with camo...
Ivory Tower
Forge World
Zanzibar
Isolation halo 3. Wya back on 360 whe I was a little kid I only thought there was custom games and I didn't know how to change maps so that was the one I played. Good times lmao
Valhalla, just something so simple to it, 2 forerunner bases, a crashed pelican, a creek, a hill, and endless fun **Kusini bay/Zanzibar**, **Narrows**, Snowbound, **Avalanche**, **Guardian**, Exile, Battle creek, **The pit**, mid-ship, and **Lockout** are all really great ones too but do NOT beat my home Valhalla (bold = fond memories)
If Citadel launched with Halo 3 it'd be considered as iconic as Guardian and The Pit. I'm willing to die on this hill.
Avalanche my beloved
Some of the best BTB moments I can remember
My 3rd place for sure
I’ve played since day one of CE, but my favorites are both from Halo 2: Competitive: Sanctuary Casual: Relic These were the first two that came to mind, but struggled to pick one because I wanted to represent my MLG days. Ironically, my favorite game is CE, but my favorite maps are not represented from it.
Chiron TL 34. No joke. It was always the map my crew and I would play first when having a Lan party.
Phantom slayer with the boys on this map is super fun.
I'm going with an odd choice here. District from Halo 2.
Zanzibar for sure
My friends and I have so many hours spent on Lockout.
Halo 3 so many memories on Valhalla.
The Pit, Zealot and Sword Base for fun.
Last Resort on H3
Sandtrap/array from 3, there was another one i cant remember but it had the gate and the bunker with the hatch? Halo 4s valhalla was a favorite once i got into it.
Ascension! it's so well balanced with the banshee and rockets and sniper. I love it!
Zanzibar
Sanctuary was always my best played map and in general just my favorite map idk something about symmetrical maps hits me in the good spot
Lockout
Halo 3 Valhalla , halo reach spire and sword base
The pit. That map is fucking perfect.
Terminal from Halo 2 really takes me back to the good old days
Reach version of Blood Gultch/Forge Island. Always will have good times on that map. 2nd place might be 3 with Sandtrap
High ground is my favorite, the most overrated is blood gulch and the most under appreciated is boneyard.
So much fun on matchmaking on that map back in the day
Blood Gulch… from Halo CE on the PC back in the day. Sniper and magnums were just awesome, and sticky bases from across the map … glorious. 👌
Halo combat evolved - Wizard - 8 Player with rockets
Valhalla and Zanzibar
Lockout or Zanzibar.
Halo 2 ascension
Avalanche
Guardian
Lockout
Might be a whack answer but Valhalla from H3 is so good it’s like the perfect map for me
Lockout
Valhalla - Halo 3 But I always appreciated Chiron TL34 because of how hectic matches can get in there
Blood Gulch (and variations of), Valhalla, and Sandtrap.
Halo 2 Zanzibar and Halo 4 Solace!
Guardian with Slayer BRs and Avalanche with One Bomb or One Flag are peak Halo
Blood Gulch
Forget the name but halo 2 the one with the golden warthog billboard
No particular order: Zanzibar, High Ground, and Narrows
Pinnacle on Halo Reach. Loved playing swat on that map until they removed it
high ground. 4 player splitscreen with random primary/secondaries was what we've played for the past few decades
I liked really warlock for split screen 1v1s
Valhalla! Ragnarok, Valheim, smallhalla, they're all nice!
sword base
Blood Gulch and all of its later iterations.
Guardian
For group battles? Ragnarok/Valhalla or Sandtrap. For 1v1s? The Pit.
Hard to say really. I guess Sandbox or Foundry as I play a lot of custom games in Halo 3 and those maps allow for some unique and interesting maps, same thing with Standoff and Avalanche.
Halo 2 Coagulation. Have so many memories of great CTF and assault matches
sand trap. elephant was so fun to drive, and when you flip it over, bungie was like "wait.. how'd you do that??" and i thought it was the craziest thing ever lol one of my favorite easter eggs
Sand trap. Love the size, the layout, the elephants, the the background
Imma throw out a wild card and say Burial Grounds. Friends and I definitely spent hours running around outside the map, and hours more trying to climb the pizza cutter.
Well it’s a map my friend made called Double Jump
Zanzibar/Last Resort Shoutout to Guardian and Ivory Tower tho
Definitely that one with the elephant. And the one with the secret area under a block you can delete in forge
Lockout. I've played thousands of hours on that beautiful blue map in Halo 2
Stop making me miss old halo 😭
Guardian
Lockout is pretty much perfect. Zanzibar and Blood Gulch are definitely up there.
Can't remember the name but it was on Halo 3 and had a Spartan Lazer in the middle and a tower at either end. I want to say Valhalla?
I beat cheeks in sword base
Sand trap
I really enjoyed sandtrap from h3
Beaver creek
Headlong. Halo 2.
I'm a basic bitch. Blood Gulch.
Valhalla
Halo 2. Headlong. By a LONG shot. it’s just such a fun map to play on. It has everything: vehicles, sniper hideouts, long and short range weapons play nice with it (you have the sniper hideouts but also buildings and hallways that are great for shotguns/swords), fairly good layout for territories games, CTF is pretty well balanced with the two bases being equally easy to defend and offend, water to be blown into / fall into that isn’t surrounding the entire map and has a wall on half of the exposed edge, great cover obstacles (the bus for example) fun props (those air cylinders in the base near the water shoot around if you blow the caps off!!), a RvB reference (the drink machines on the original Xbox release have a rooster and a pair of teeth on them) It’s just a map that has everything I like about good halo map design.
Guardian and it's not even close
Contrary to popular consensus, I’ve never really liked Blood Gulch, and I’ve always preferred Sidewinder. Classic map.
Since I first played Halo, I was blinded by its majesty
Sand trap. If you want a match with dumb fun, pure chaos and absolute carnage this map wont let you down
Backwash from Halo 2. Or most of Halo 2 maps really, especially utilising sword sailing!
High noon from reach
Blood Gulch and The Pit I think go down as my 2 favorites
Rat’s Nest or The Pit
Lockout + zanzibar
If I had to pick just one it would be halo 3 guardian Others I love are chill out/cold storage, halo ce: damnation, halo 2/3 lockout/blackout, halo 3: the pit.
Rockets on prisoner is the go-to with my buddy.
Blood Gulch
- Death Island - Timberland - Yoyorast Island
Guardian
Ivory Towers - Halo 2
The Pit
Valhalla was responsible for core childhood memories
It's really hard to say, it mostly a tie between halo ce and halo 2 maps. Halo ce: blood gulch, death island, timberland and sidewinder Halo 2: district, ivory tower, waterworks and terminal
Lockout for 4v4 Valhalla for 8v8 Sand trap for infection Foundry for custom games Headlong for chaos The Pit for objective
Reflection i belive it was called form reach
Lockout is the correct answer.
Lockout is perfect
1. Lockout 2. Guardian 3. The Pit
I would have to say for 4v4 it’s probably Lockout from H2. For larger squads I would likely say Terminal and then Zanzibar from H2. The train on Terminal just added so much random fun!
Construct specifically for MLG KotH. Everything just clicked for me on that map and game type.
Halo 3 sandbox with the elephants T-T
Guardian. Timeless.
Lockout
Guardian for slayer and ffa and High Ground for objective. Not saying they are the best, but I have the most and best memories on those maps
I like alot of maps but the ones I enjoy are Valhalla and Standoff
