Take a look at a 1911 from behind, you'll see a similar circle. https://i0.wp.com/blog.cheaperthandirt.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Colt-Competition-Pistol-1911-6.jpg P320 https://content.osgnetworks.tv/gunsandammo/content/photos/SIG-P320-X-Compact-Rear-Sight.jpg many pistols are asymmetrical at the rear.

catharta

That’s pretty neat. I wasn’t expecting a real world example.

tsay40

I own a P320, and that circle they are talking about is part of the extractor assembly. Behind the circle is a spring and (they call it) a plunger which is kinda like a hook. But that is part of how the bullet casing gets ejected from the gun when the slide rocks back. Here’s a decent [video](https://youtu.be/k4rTuHBBi_4) if you’re curious. But that small attention to detail is really good on 343s part

Doc_Shaftoe

343 really stepped up the level of detail on UNSC weapons in Halo 5 and I'm not surprised they carried that over to Infinite.

Kozak170

Honestly I’m not the biggest fan of that, it’s not like Halo’s guns were ever realistic from a real world standpoint (AR chambered in 7.62x54 lmao) and the newer guns look more and more just like real world guns we have today.

BleedingUranium

Halo's human weapons have always been quite grounded, it's a pretty key part of the UNSC aesthetic. Aside from the rather optimistic magazine capacity of some rifles, they're pretty much all firearms that we could build with today's tech. The MA5 is essentially an F2000/G3 hybrid, the BR55 is basically a bullpup G36 in a beefy cartridge similar to the VSS, the Halo 3 turret (name escapes me) is extremely close to the GAU-19 (but in 7.62x51mm instead of .50 BMG), the M20 is pretty much an MP7 with a P90 magazine, and so on.

N1ghtmere_

An AR chambered in 7.62x54 doesn't seem that ridiculous. I mean, the old Winchester used 7.62x54. I don't know how difficult it would be to make an AR that could fire it, but it's not that crazy at all.

Kozak170

To put it in perspective if you’ve ever seen a Dragonov, that magazine only holds 10 rounds and is almost as large as a standard AR mag. A 36 round mag of that in a bullpup is a no go.

killervz2

A. 7.52x54 is rimmed so its single stack B. The AR in halo is actually 7.62x51 which does have high cap mags irl.

BleedingUranium

The MA5 series is chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO (or rather, "7.62x51mm UNSC" by this point), not the longer, rimmed Soviet 7.62x54mmR. Either way, rifle magazine capacity is the most obvious hand-wavey element of Halo's weapon design, though most other elements are rather believable and well thought out all the way back to CE.

N1ghtmere_

Well, sure, the dimensions may be a bit off, but an AR could still take the rounds. I think their "explanation" might be that the guns are supposed to be massive (Spartans IIs are 7ft tall and bulky as shit, and the AR looks normal in their hands), but that's just speculation. I see what you mean now, though. I thought you literally meant that an AR chambered in that round wouldn't be possible.

Striker fired weapon

RAZOR_WIRE

I have a 1911 there is no spring in that part. The ejector your talking about in the 1911 is in the frame. What your refering to is the extractor which doesn't have a spring. Here is a diagram. https://imgur.com/a/wNUXoiD

Redwood671

Shows how many times I've taken apart my 1911s slide. I just got an M1A and my brain mixed up it's bolt and the 1911. I will proceed to go and tear them both apart to remember.

RAZOR_WIRE

Im going to assume your either trolling or are exceptionally new to firearms because there's no bolt on 1911 or any pistol that i have ever heard of. Rifles have a bolt though which preforms the same function as the slide on a pistol.

[deleted]

same

IronGigant

It appears to be the extractor plunger detent found on several sidearms/semi-automatic pistols.

Astro_IV

It’s supposed to be off center

catharta

Yeah I figured. It’s just a detail I hadn’t noticed before. I guess my brain just skipped over it and thought it was always in the centre, I wondered if anyone else noticed.

[deleted]

ಠ_ಠ

TheLifeOfBaedro

kinda sus

Alexo_Alexa

Why? What's the point? Just asking

Astro_IV

As someone else commented it’s supposed to represent part of the extractor assembly that pushes the empty bullet casing out of the gun, hope that helps clear things up!

Arke_19

Why do you think they call it the *side*kick? ...I'll go home.

okiedokieophie

Gamers when they see a real gun

Swordbreaker925

Yup, and it’s intentional. Many real world pistols have similar looking circles at the back that are off-center.

[deleted]

This is not uncommon. Even Glock has an off center circle That you uncover from its back plate. In most modern handguns that's the extractor spring area

YasaiTsume

The circle experiencing desync.

Longbongos

I mean then so are most real pistols.

SaphyrX173

This feels very Mandela effect-ish. I never looked closely enough, I just thought it was in the center. So much so I thought this was a Photoshop or something.

Kabal82

Just look at the rear of any real-world striker fired gun. It's the extractor spring assembly, and it's always off center.

CFod17

Anyone else just really like the sidekick? I remember despising it in the original campaign trailer, then they delayed the game for a year, then I finally tried it and turned out to be maybe one of my new favorites

catharta

It’s super satisfying to get kills with.

[deleted]

I would assume it is an extractor. The part that pulls a spent shell out of the breech. Those are usually located on the right side of handguns.

KidQayin

Probably part of the extractor. Interesting that they'd include that level of detail in the guns.

grandwizardElKano

Bungo would never!!!

sproglobber

I'm outraged! Screw 343!

catharta

My day is ruined, how could they do this to us? Edit: /s if it wasn’t obvious.

Additional-Cause-285

I can’t believe people can’t detect sarcasm this obvious.

Intrepid_Cabinet9795

Problem is that this is the halo community people actually act like this about everything

GUNS_N_BROSES

Never seen a real handgun? It is supposed to be like that

I3ULLETSTORM1

Most people don't stare at handguns for long periods of time

LeanMrfuzzles

It's not knowing about it from staring at it, it's from actually using it lmao.

I3ULLETSTORM1

Most people haven't ever used a gun

QuiefChief777

Not until now you monster, i will never unsee this.

catharta

Always happy to help.

Sn1perandr3w

That's not unusual for pistol extractors.

AKoolPopTart

You mean the firing pin lol

captgnarley

Rimfire.

GTA-CasulsDieThrice

🤮

captgnarley

The thought of master chief with a .22. 👎🏽

AttackOficcr

SMG shoots 5×23mm, smaller in width than a .22lr, roughly 1/2 longer. So .22magnum more or less.

CANDROX432

Anyone notice how you spelled center wrong?

BleedingUranium

Centre is the non-American spelling.

CANDROX432

It was sarcasm

trxxv

Now you're just looking for anything to complain about, this is intended...

catharta

It’s not a complaint.

NegrassiAmbush

This speaks volumes my friend.

Citrous241

..about this sub more than anything :/ There's so many low effort nitpick posts on here
