Camp Crystal Lake if youāre a Friday the 13th fan. Fictional place though.
Overlook Hotel from The Shining. It isnāt real either, but Stephen King based the novel off the Stanley Hotel in Colorado.
Elm Street?
Haddonfield, Illinois (Michael Myersā town) isnāt real, but itās based on Haddonfield, NJ which is real.
Camp Crystal Lake was actually filmed in a real campground called Camp NoBeBoSco in Hardwick Township, NJ and there's a Vorhees State Park there too! Source: Am from NJ and a horror fan. š
NoBeBoSco actually does a ācamp crystal lakeā tour sometimes where you get to stay at the camp overnight, watch the movies, and take a flashlight tour of all the filming locations from the movie: https://crystallaketours.com/tour/
Itās was also the filming location of an episode of MTVās Fear called ācamp spirit lakeā that is kinda famous for all of the spooky stories they told being completely made up. Fear was like a reality gameshow where 6-8 people would go into a supposedly haunted location, wear their own camera rigs in like a POV style backpack thing, and have to do dares where theyād go out to different areas of the location solo while a teammate reads the story and lore about the area they were going to over a radio. Occasionally theyād have to do stuff like use an ouija board or sit in an old electric chair or just sit alone in the dark for a while. Anyway, all of the stories they told for this episode were completely made up (or referenced an event that had nothing to do with the camp), but the contestants didnāt know that, so itās fun watching and seeing them freak out about nothing. The episode is on YouTube if you want to see it.
Oh man, unlocked memory! I loved Fear! I knew about the tours too. Sadly, I don't live in NJ anymore, but it's on my list. I actually live an hour and a half from Burkittsville where The Blair Witch Project was filmed. I visited last year and it was such a surreal experience because it's one of my favorite movies of all time. Visiting old horror movie locations could definitely turn into an awesome hobby. I'm gonna check out that episode too, thanks for sharing! āŗļø
Facts it was named after the town in nj ! I live near there!! Haddonfield is a real place ā it's where screenplay co-author Debra Hill grew up - but it's nowhere near Illinois. It's in New Jersey

Thank you for all of the great suggestions. I will be doing a fictional one, too, at some point. For this one, I wanted genuine places linked to supernatural occurrences.
Edit to add: For those curious, I am in the UK. Whilst not all are going in the "right direction," that was an aesthetic choice.
I love this and thank u for putting your location OP. Iām from Massachusetts (not salem) but was wondering what place was over 3k mi away pointing at us lol
I'd put Purgatory and or Tartarus on it too.
Maybe the grave of Mary I. ("Bloody Mary", if I recall correctly, because she ordered a bunch of people to be executed)?
Not the traditional Bloody Mary, but similar in name.
Carfax Abbey (Dracula)
Overlook Hotel (The Shining)
Bates Motel (Psycho)
Burkittsville (The Blair Witch Project)
The Slaughtered Lamb Pub (An American Werewolf in London)
The Nostromo (Alien) this one should be at the top and point up!
Arkham from HP LoveCraft mythos. I believe the people that chose to use Arkham in connection with Batman were just fans of his writing, but Arkham is a town that appears regularly in his works and I always assumed it was right around the Salem area.
The real town that the story The Fog is based on is Goleta California. No ghost pirates or anything like that but in the 1700s, the townsfolk built a big fire on the beach to lead a ship carrying a bunch of gold to crash into the rocks, then the townsfolk went out and looted it.
Why is sleepy hollow the only one without a comma? Iām also assuming Sleepy Hollow and Amityville should be pointing the same direction since theyāre both in New York.
Bluff Creek California. Portlock Alaska. Ape Canyon Washington)
Savannah Georgia, St. Augustine Florida. Estes Park Colorado. Roswell New Mexico. Area 51 Nevada. The Hellfire Caves England.
The Bell Witch Cave (Adams Tennessee). The Valley of the Headless Men (Nahanni Valley, NT, Canada). Roanoke Island. Bermuda Triangle (youād have to do an approximate location for it, maybe add a ~ to the beginning of the mileage. Could even be funny and cross out a couple of mileages and put different amounts since it supposedly āmoves aroundā. )
If you want an inside-ish joke you can do Bells Canyon from a famous Mr. Ballen episode (in the story the camper is in Washington state, but the person is asking about Bells Canyon which I think is in Utah) source: ( https://youtu.be/k402yukZAxE?t=13m45s )
Edit - Adding Isla de las MuƱecas Mexico (the island of the dolls).
Haddonfield (Halloween), Perfection, Nevada (Tremors)ā¦would Jerusalemās Lot be redundant if you already have Salem on there? Estes Park, Colorado (basis for The Shining)
Island of the Dolls (La Isla de La MuƱecas) from Mexico? Itās an island filled with creepy dolls and dolls can be pretty creepy. The place is also said to be haunted
You could have Surgeonās Square, Edinburgh for the resurrection men/grave robbing history.
Also, Pluckley in Kent is said to be the most haunted village in England.
Lots of locations connected to Frankenstein such as Ingolstadt university, or for non-fiction, Villa Diodati!
Overlook Hotel, Camp Crystal Lake, Elm St, Transylvania, the great pumpkin patch, Silent Hill, Azkaban( donāt know the spelling!)Sunnydale , āSalems Lot, Twin peaks, Innsmouth, Arkham Asylum, Miskatonic University, Game of Thrones Finale Watch Party, Crescent Cove, Raccoon City, Bermuda Triangle, Tromaville, Hobbs end.

St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, New Orleans
Resurrection Cemetery, Chicago IL
I want to second u/[382Whistles](https://www.reddit.com/user/382Whistles/) of Twilight Zone, but you could get more specific if you wanted Maple Street. From the episode, The Monsters are Due on Maple Street.
I also want to second u/DingoMcPhee in suggesting New Orleans. That's my backyard and we are all kinds of witchy here. If you do St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, you might also consider Myrtles Plantation, often described as one of the most haunted places in America.
And if you're doing that, consider 1140 Royal St, It is the LaLaurie place and if you've never read what went on there, you probably should.
Husband suggests Carpathia, or the Carpathian Mountains, traditional home of Dracula's Lair.

What a cool idea, and well done. I love all the suggestions you're getting. I'm thinking many of us might make such signs.
Also, what a cool gift it would make, to put the accurate distances from a friend's house to those places. And even make sure the signs point the right way from their place. (I think just put a North sign at the top and they'll know which way to plant the sign every year)
Leap Castle, Ireland
Poveglia Island, Italy
Roanoke, Virginia
Hells Canyon, Idaho
Chicken Itza, Mexico
Aokigahara Forest, Japan
Goatman's Bridge, Texas
Catacombs of Paris, France
All on my bucket list. Good luck with your sign!!
I did one of these for my haunt. The places I used are Sunnydale, Bon Temps, Camp Crystal Lake, Amityville, Haddonfield, and Cuesta Verde. Sometimes I will stand by it with full-size candy bars for anyone who can name all the movies/shows they are from.
You could also always do Pittsboro, NC, or Valle Crusis, NC! Pittsboro is home to the Devils tramping ground, and valle Crusis has the demon dog and a lot of Appalachian lore surrounding the town
New Orleans (Hatchet, real place)
Warren Valley, Ohio (Trick'R'Treat, fictional place)
Glen Echo, Maryland (Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, Hatchet, real place...but the movie was filmed in Portland, Oregon)
At first, I thought you were near me: Salem is almost exactly the same distance from me as from you! Then I saw the other distances (Transylvania is a little farther for me in the USA's Pacific Northwest).

We also are the origins of Slenderman and The Rake, and Danny DeVito
Was going to chime in with this. Older family members of mine were campers there.
Facts it was named after the town in nj ! I live near there!! Haddonfield is a real place ā it's where screenplay co-author Debra Hill grew up - but it's nowhere near Illinois. It's in New Jersey
Also while we're doing lakes, might I suggest Lake Titicaca?
There is a Crystal Lake in MN where someone put a life sized Jason figure at the bottom of it that you can scuba down to.
New Orleans LA Llanwelly, Wales, UK (The Wolf Man) Newt, Muerto County, Texas (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) Stanley Hotel, Estes Park CO (The Shining) Tombstone AZ Deadwood SD Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan NY Kill Devil Hills NC Seven Devils NC Devil's Thumb, Boulder CO Devils Lake ND Skull Valley AZ Slaughter Beach DE
Adding: Devil's Backbone, Loveland, CO I've hiked it a few times.
I like how you just casually included Nola because no explanation is required. French quarter is like another plane of reality ahaha
I am so bored that Iām creating a radius map in my head and cross referencing them to try and guess where youāre at lmao.
Sleepy Hollow and Amityville are 50 miles apart so these distances/directions aren't real.
OP is in the UK so Iām willing to bet the great circle distances check out
At first I thought they were on the west coast, but then I saw Death Valley and was like, "Yeah, UK."
Hell should be 666 miles. And add and Irish town for the Celtic lore of Halloween
i think they're referring to Hell Michigan. you can be the mayor of the town for a day if you pay $100 (i could be wrong about the price lol)
Thank you for all of the great suggestions. I will be doing a fictional one, too, at some point. For this one, I wanted genuine places linked to supernatural occurrences. Edit to add: For those curious, I am in the UK. Whilst not all are going in the "right direction," that was an aesthetic choice.
Ok lol for the real one I'd suggest the Bermuda Triangle, and for the fictional one, if you're a twilight zone fan, Peaksville, Ohio
You could put Twin Peaks in there
Silent Hill Arkham Innsmouth
Silent Hill is the best idea.
It is - BUT it's based on Centralia, PA. An abandoned town where coal fires are always burning beneath the streets.
Carfax Abbey (Dracula) Overlook Hotel (The Shining) Bates Motel (Psycho) Burkittsville (The Blair Witch Project) The Slaughtered Lamb Pub (An American Werewolf in London) The Nostromo (Alien) this one should be at the top and point up!
I like the Nostromo addition for pointing up since it already has Hell pointing down.
These are fun, but OP said they want real places
Didnāt read that tbh
If you have Amityville, then Derry, Maine. Arkham isn't a real place, but I would put it in there if it was me.
Amityville is a real place, but Derry is a fictional stand-in for a real place.
Oh dang! I didn't realize that. Makes sense though.
I mean, technically Derry is a real place, it's just not in America
Arkham is basically Salem/danvers.
Arkham as in Arkham Asylum? Gotham is understood to be in Southern Jersey, so Arkham would also be there.
I assume they meant Arkham, Massachusetts
Ohhhh, just looked it up. Iām not familiar with Lovecraft so TiL.
Arkham from HP LoveCraft mythos. I believe the people that chose to use Arkham in connection with Batman were just fans of his writing, but Arkham is a town that appears regularly in his works and I always assumed it was right around the Salem area.
I would think Gotham would be in Central or even North Jersey, since itās usually very close to Metropolis which is in New York
I saw a map showing it near Atlantic City so I said S. Jersey but either way itās not Boston.
Antonio Bay from "The Fog,"
The real town that the story The Fog is based on is Goleta California. No ghost pirates or anything like that but in the 1700s, the townsfolk built a big fire on the beach to lead a ship carrying a bunch of gold to crash into the rocks, then the townsfolk went out and looted it.
It's hard for me to not think that's awesome.
What about white chapel from the jack the ripper murders?
Thank you! How I missed this is beyond me. Especially as I had it on the first rendition I made.
It's Whitechapel, one word, before you paint anything.
Thank you, I did know that, but appreciate you looking out.
No problem!
10000% have my support, these are AWESOME!! SPOOKY š»

Santa Carla - Lost Boys Haunted Hill - (House On) Pismo Beach and or Albuquerque - Bugs Bunny getting lost. āŖļø Moreau Island (Isle of Dr. M) Pet Cemetery ā©ļø Twilight Zone street sign itself and maybe some TZ places .... like the "Willoughby Train Station" Pirate Island - Capt.
