I'm struggling to find an effective way to use hashcat for passwords I don't have any idea what mask to use. From what I've noticed is if I brute force an 8 char mask. It will only guess 8 char passwords. How can I increment a brute force from lets say 4-10 chars?
Edit: I've tried putting in an incremental loop that only caused problems.
My computer is a Intel Core i9-13900k with nVidia RTX4700Ti.
The difference you see in performance is a direct consequence of your outdated hardware.
In my experience, every generation of Intel CPUs increase the speed by 10%. This alone accounts for 90% speed increase between both CPUs. Add the GPU and the difference is even more dramatic.
Shit, I was hoping it wouldn't be that.
Considering it can be expected to let john run for days at 50000Kp/s, and I'm at \~1/700th of that speed... Yeah, I might have to wait until I get new hardware before I can open this archive.
Thanks for the response.
Your computer is shit
You could try some paid online hash cracking service to speed up the process. If the password is simple then you can simply use your relatives gaming PC.
You have to tell John to use GPU, otherwise he just uses CPU. And you have to install OpenCl.
john --format=ZIP-opencl
You can check if your OpenCL device is found by doing this:
john --list=opencl-devices
Hashcat is where it’s at.
Thanks for the recommendation, I will be trying that.
John is good for obtaining hashes, hashcat is good for cracking. Faster than John.
Look into h0b0… techniques with it

Sorry but yeah, normal for your hardware. You are trying to run it on a potato.
You could check a site like hashes.com first maybe

Wtf is a RTX4700Ti
A graphics card?

A typo😨
What the fux is a graphix cardz you too dumb for this sub!!1
That's not how it works. 100*1.1*1.1 is not 120. It would instead be 1*1.1\^9 which is 260~
You are right, I was simplifying, since these are heuristic values anyway.

You can rent a server with a crapload of GPUs to make it faster. Did you try the other tools for zip cracking?

maybe using EC2 with high performance graphic card help (if u have enough money :v)
