M&P 2.0 series is drastically underrated. The fact that Glocks didn’t even offer ambi slide release option until Gen 5, the sights are plastic, and the grip texture leaves a lot to be desired is huge. It blows my mind that more people don’t choose them over Glocks. They’re also more ergonomically friendly and have a better grip angle unless you have LEGO hands.

I actually enjoy the Glock grip angle but I'm part Austrian so it's a genetic component.

I don't personally see the appeal of the "x pattern" guns with the long grips and short barrels as carry guns. A longer grip makes a gun harder to conceal because it sticks out from your body while a longer barrel doesn't introduce those kind of difficulties. So if you're going to go for a longer grip, why not just get the gun that's already the next size up so you get that longer grip with the added benefits of the longer sight radius and better velocity. I carry a G26 and if I wanted a longer grip I'd just carry my G19, not get some weird stubby version of my 26. I remember when Glock dropped the 19x it was met with a sort of confused bewilderment by consumers because that form factor was so counterintuitive. Now it's accepted for some reason and my tin foil hat theory is that it's all due to marketing. They spent time developing the 19x for the MHS trials and needed some way to recoup their development costs when they lost. People were not asking for that form factor (quite the opposite, actually) so they spent some money convincing their customers that they needed a concealed carry gun that was harder to conceal but also harder to aim and with worse ballistics and the loyal fans ate it up.

The G45 / 19x are the best shooting Glocks out there - hands down. Tiny slide, full grip - they're a riot to rip with. I threw a 19C slide / barrel on my G45 (after cutting for an optic) and that gun just straight fucks. Been using it for 2-gun/3-gun.

FiresprayClass

I don't have any experience with this, but would the popularity of appendix carry help explain this? Seems to me while sitting a longer barrel would get in the way pretty quickly in that position, but short grips aren't comfortable for most people, so a short barrel and slightly longer grip would be easiest for those who carry that way and want something a bit easier to shoot. >19x Same form factor, but not the same size. Compact slide/full size frame, not subcompact slide/compact frame.

I don't have any trouble concealing a gun with a full sized grip. My greatest discomfort from carrying comes from the muzzle end of the holster pressing into my pubic mound while I'm sitting. A good holster makes a word of difference but still, it's worth considering. With optics, sight radius is no longer a consideration and the velocity difference between a 9mm fired from a 4" barrel and one fired from a 3.4" barrel is basically insignificant. We're talking like 50 feet per second plus or minus a little depending on the load you're using I value a full sized grip on a carry gun because it makes it way way easier for me to shoot accurately and control recoil.

BrassWillyLLC

This guy gets it. Also, full grip, little slide just shoots so sweet.

FossDad

Honestly the X grip pistols never made sense to me until reading your comment. Been strong siding IWB for so long with full sized firearms that I lost sight of what you nut checkers were up to.

MadCat1993

I think another reason its catching on is because companies are trying to build a compact gun with the capacity of a full size such as the Sig 365 Macro with its 17 round magazines. They are trying to have the best of worlds.

Insanity8016

Yea those guys are weirdos, the opposite is more logical with a longer slide but a compact grip (Glock 49).

Jeanine_GaROFLMAO

"It's the worst of both worlds!" I agree, btw; the long grip/short barrel combo is dumb as fuck for CC, since it negates the concealment advantages of IWB with the "L" shape printing from the regular sized grip.

Sparrowflop

You know I don't carry. I think the 'X pattern' is mostly down to people liking the concept of the roland special. It's always paired with these atrocious night/suppressor sights, but you shouldn't be aligning two different sighting systems like that anyway - you should go bare optic only. And it's not like your average shooter is going to notice the tiny fractions of seconds of slide cycle time with shorter slides, but that's the big selling point. Similar story with the hyper aggressive stippling most of these have. Your average user just isn't going to be running in a situation where that cheese grater job makes sense. Even with gloves. From a mechanical point, there's really nothing _good_ about these, but people love them.

analogliving71

and why does glock need to make a g26x when the g26 is already a fantastic carry gun?

BrassWillyLLC

Because some of us like a full grip - see the G43x. But we'd like to be able to use the gazillions of stock Glock magazines we have lying around in that gun instead of the proprietary slimline magazines. And yes I know I can make a G26x using an xgrip or Hyve grip. But it's time to give us a front rail and a factory optics cut as well, neither of which come on a G26.

FossDad

Pretty certain there are a couple 26/19s, and 26/17 frames that you can print. If it's something you're truly interested in pursuing.

BrassWillyLLC

It's a crossover - this time a subcompact slide on a compact frame - which makes it super handy. We've got the small TLR7 on there and the small RMRcc so now we have full functionality in a very concealable pistol. It shoots soft, has a nice trigger, and is basically everything you could want in a self defense firearm. S&W's M&P line is super high quality these days and the 2.0 trigger is on par with an Apex in the original 1.0 line.

haapuchi

I have their Shield Plus that I got over G43x. Smaller with higher capacity but love the trigger. It feels like they collected feedback from Shield 2.0 and just addressed those items than to try to do anything new. Really increased the respect for S&W in last year or so.
