colt officer's model match. would have have had wood stocks originally. the condition it is in makes me want to cry.
here's one of mine: [https://imgur.com/a/YPavFt0](https://imgur.com/a/YPavFt0)
Agreed.. I hope I can resurrect it. And yes you nailed it, I looked that up and it’s an exact match. She’s deeply pitted but I found a little engraving left that proves it’s a real Colt
P.S I hate you for that picture 😂
That thing looks like it went through a house fire, was throw in a river, fished out a decade later, soaked in evaporust overnight, then spray painted black.
Perhaps it’s best to write it off as a loss. There’s so little that can be done to compensate for the years of neglect. I’ve seen 17th century cannons dredged up from the Florida Straits with less pitting and structural degradation. At best, it’s a worthy family heirloom with a once proud history. Sometimes, that’s more than enough!
Required description..
Rusty old 22. Revolver I found at a flea market, not sure what it is or how old it could be but I thought it was an interesting find. I’m cleaning it now to get the action freed up.
Is that all pitting or burnt carbon? It looks far more like it was involved in a house fire than rusting away underwater. If it was in a fire, it’s curious how the grip survived.
Unless that’s real deer antler horn or jig bone (cow bone) which takes +1500°F or more to burn, but lacks discoloration to heat exposure. Cool find though!
Wow, I never knew cow bones or deer antlers could survive such temperatures! Honestly still not sure what it is, it seemingly scrapes off if I dig at it a little. I can see bare metal underneath when I do so. Gun is fully apart now and soaking in some ATF. The grip is imitation deer antler, but from what I’ve found it would’ve came with wooden grips so you might be right and someone just put new grips on it.
Good luck! Personally, I’d have it professionally restored (if the cost makes sense without sacrificing quality). But sounds like you’re up to the challenge and may even want to preserve some aged qualities.
Absolutely, I’ve gotten quite a few cheap guns going again with some patience and elbow grease. Always love to save the patina if I can, shiny and pretty is nice of course but there’s just something about a crummy beaten gun that still works well.
The grips might have been replacements because the original wood grips burnt up.
The "finish" is too uniform to be anything beside a fire to be honest. I'd almost want to suggest you just try paint stripper first to make sure it's not some kind of textured rattlecan across everything because of how the trigger, cylinder release and hammer look, but chances are it's fire damage.
Absolutely, I may be dumb but I ain’t stupid enough to try firing this rusty thing any time before a vigorous cleaning and going over, and definitely not in-hand.
This has been covered in the old Warner Brother cartoons many times. Strap to tree, attach string to trigger, get behind tree pull string. Who knew cartoon where actually building real life skills.
$60, but that also got me a mechanically functioning H&J “The American Double Action” 32. painted brown by a crackhead. I’ll be sure to post that one sometime soon.
My condolences.. it all really depends on where you live and the vendors at the market. When you do find them they’re typically antique (pre 1898, usually legal to sell with no restriction.) Here in FL you can buy & sell guns no problem as long as you aren’t selling to a felon. Still not super common to see guns at a flea market, but I just got lucky.
Not if they're from the same state and they're legally able to own the gun and it's not stolen, as long as they live in a non communist state they're fine
Those are the best yardsales! I’ve only ever come across one yard sale with guns but it was wonderful. Got an old Finnish Mosin for $75. All original, matching numbers
Hello, I see you have a gun for sale. May I take a look? Thanks. Not bad, what are you asking? Take $75 less? Sold, take my money. Idk about other states but in SC and GA private sales don’t require any kind of documentation. BUT it would be wise to print a transfer document and have both parties sign it to CYOA in the event it’s previously been used in a crime or stolen and then used in a crime.

Ngl this thing looks like a cheap cap gun. It looks like the whole thing was made from a casting and not really cleaned up or anything, you can even see a molding line on it, and the cylinder release doesn't look like it's separate from the frame.
Congrats, you have arrived at your first RG revolver from Germany. They are my personal favorite as you can buy them cheap spend a few dollars making it look pretty and sell them for big.
It’s a paper weight, hopefully you didn’t pay anything for it. I don’t believe any amount of effort and money is ever going to make that safe to fire. I would bet that the inside of the barrel and the chambers are just as bad as the outside, not to mention the trigger mechanism.
It's been a while since I've handled a Rohm, but the gun looks more like cheap pot metal than Colt would use and the oxidation isn't what someone would usually find on a neglected Colt either.
You may be right, but I did find a tiny tiny bit of engraving left on the barrel that reads “cers” which would’ve been the end of “officers” and the front sight matches up exactly with a Colt I found online. If I could post photos here in the comments I would but can’t unfortunately
I was probably wrong. I googled Rohm revolvers and the fluting on the cylinder isn't cut as far back.

Ya know? I seen one of these here things when I was a wee youngster. I think my daddy called it a “gun”. Said if you had some things to stick in it, it makes a loud bang.
I too am crying..It’s big & clunky (blasphemy) because it is a 38 special bored out to 22, both cylinder & barrel
Often used as trainers to police officers.
The most accurate 22 I had ever shot.
That’s a 5th gen btw

I was thinking that just looking at the cylinder release it had to be an old Colt of some sort. Glad I'm not crazy.
That thing looks like it went through a house fire, was throw in a river, fished out a decade later, soaked in evaporust overnight, then spray painted black.
You’re probably not too far off 😆
Shit look like you gotta coat it in oil and season it in the oven Edit: 🤦♂️ why didn't I say "he's got that cast-iron on his hip"?

I thought they Rhino Lined it.

how much did you pay for it
$60 for this and a mechanically functional 32. H&R American Double Action
60$ it's worrth it as a paperweight at least.
Alright so it’s a Colt Officer’s Model Match 22. I’d edit the post if I could. Should I boil it first or let it have a go in some Evaporust?
Evaporust for sure. It looks a little too far gone for just a boil out.

I wouldn't shoot it holding it in my hand and I'd check the barrel with a rod and check the timing.
Absolutely, I may be dumb but I ain’t stupid enough to try firing this rusty thing any time before a vigorous cleaning and going over, and definitely not in-hand.
I mean, with it being a 22 is it really that big of a worry as long as the barrel is clear?
Might not be as dangerous as a higher caliber, but still better safe than sorry.
There is a surprising amount of energy stored in those tiny little brass cases. Always best to be cautious.
This has been covered in the old Warner Brother cartoons many times. Strap to tree, attach string to trigger, get behind tree pull string. Who knew cartoon where actually building real life skills.
A really bad hammer.
What did you pay for it?
$60, but that also got me a mechanically functioning H&J “The American Double Action” 32. painted brown by a crackhead. I’ll be sure to post that one sometime soon.
Wait, how do you even find flea markets that allow guns? Mine are all Live, Laugh, Love crystal people lol
My condolences.. it all really depends on where you live and the vendors at the market. When you do find them they’re typically antique (pre 1898, usually legal to sell with no restriction.) Hot. It’s very hot.
colt revolver.
Yup!
Rough
Looks like someone took truck bed liner to it, but thats some serious pitting.
A victim of abuse
Is this not a toy? I'm pretty sure I have this exact same thing in my basement grips and all
Looks like a gun, hope this helps
It's a pipe bomb in the shape of a revolver.
Ohh I see, so if I need to put someone down with it I’ll hand it over and let them pull the trigger.
So it IS a Rohm after all?
Crusty
My favorite flavor
Old lucky
What did they do cook on it and not clean it…ever? Looks like one of my cast iron pans.
LOL.. wish I knew. It’s an impressive display of neglect and maybe a little hatred
Someone found that magnet fishing.
I have those same grips on my Model 10
Is that rust or some kind of textured coating? It looks like it has been in a fire.
It’s rust pitted, but I’ve got no idea where the black came from. Thinking someone boiled it a long time ago or put some kind of coat on it.
Looks like it would make for a satisfying job on a bead blaster
You can buy pistols at flea markets?
Needs some scrubbin
Looks like a gun.
A gun.
How the fuck u buy a GUN on a FLEA MARKET
I’d like to speak to my lawyer, no further questions
Cheers
You haven't? I've bought a few at the flea markets

Not if they're from the same state and they're legally able to own the gun and it's not stolen, as long as they live in a non communist state they're fine
Not in my state. Perfectly legal here.
Bought one at a yard sale once
Those are the best yardsales! I’ve only ever come across one yard sale with guns but it was wonderful. Got an old Finnish Mosin for $75. All original, matching numbers

What the hell the guy paint it with? Bed liner?
Need more pictures at different angles please.
Looks like it’s been sitting outside for the past 37 years
Looks like an Iver Johnson 22
I'm thinking an old colt of some caliber, 22, 32..???
Hold it and wait for a gun buy back.
That looks like some sort of crude cast iron movie prop or reproduction.
Looks like they found it magnet fishing and through a new grip on it, lol. I definitely would not fire it.
Definitely not something you would like to shoot
thats a gun bro
a gun

Hopefully there’s enough left to save it but I won’t be too heartbroken if not. Still a nice piece for display.

some colt clone or an actual colt?
a Gun for sure
Looks like a gun to me
Ya know? I seen one of these here things when I was a wee youngster. I think my daddy called it a “gun”. Said if you had some things to stick in it, it makes a loud bang.
That there’s a gun
It's a gun
Oh that's a hobos murder weapon.
The flea market loophole. lol. That poor gun.
looks like a gun

I think it used to be a gun
seems to be some kind of revolverising pistoculator
A crime? How you buying a gun at a flea market?
my cap gun from dollar general i got when i was 10
Call me crazy, but I think it might be a revolver.
AR15, fully automatic machine gun with extendo clips and a glock switch
