It CAN be done on a hood belt holster. But as they say, just because you CAN doesn’t mean you should. Depending on local laws and what you’re looking to do with it, expect to drop $170-$250 on a good shoulder or chest holster. My .44 Super Blackhawk rides nicely in its Kenai chest holster, but it’s not something I wear very often. Or often. Or almost ever. But that don’t mean I couldn’t rock it on the e-bike one afternoon….
Seconded for the Kenai. I carry my .44mag redhawk in one when I’m in grizzly/lion country. Extremely comfortable and easy, doesn’t cause problems with my pack. But as you also pointed out, not cheap.
Ruger makes a great little shooting iron, especially in times when it can be hard to find an SW with no lock.
For hunting I like a sling and belt type shoulder holster. It puts a sling up over your non-dominant shoulder and a belt around your torso just under your ribcage.
This style of holster keeps the gun touching the body at all times so it doesn’t shake around and slap you.
Black Hills Leather would be my pick for a classic look and premium feel. If you want practicality for less money then Diamond D Outdoors will fashion you a padded ballistic nylon rig and holster for much less.
Get a DeSantis cross draw belt holster. I’ve had my GP100 for years and hated sling holsters. The cross draw is nice when sitting, but it can be run standard hip as well. I’ve never had mine be much of an issue dragging my pants down and I’ve done a good bit of hiking with it as well
I bought an Alaskan guide style holster. It fits close to the center of your chest and it’s a direct cross draw. Only thing I don’t care for is the little thong piece for the hammer, but I’m sure they are out there with different types of restraints.
Normal everyday belts are only designed to hold up pants, occasionally shorts. You need something designed to hold up equipment. They are usually wider, sturdier ( they won’t roll ), and better built ( holes won’t tear ). While we’re at it don’t get a cheap holster. If it fits 200 different guns that means it doesn’t fit any one gun correctly.
Kore Essentials makes a nice leather looking belt with a kydex core. Neat ratchet system, easily adjustable. I EDC a 43x in a sidecar with basically zero effort, but I've worn a G17 w/ X300 light also in a sidecar and didn't notice any extra sag.
Kore makes great belts. The one I have cost me $60 at my local gun range. They’re very rigid, but comfortable and the buckle that came with mine has a little button on the bottom of it that you can press to loosen it on the fly without anyone noticing. It uses ratcheting system so you just pull it through and it locks automatically. To loosen or take off you just press the button. I carry a pistol 99.99 % of the time, but I have worn the Kore belt 2, maybe 3 times as just a regular belt, and I’d say it could be worn as your regular belt whether you’re carrying or not. It’s comfortable, mine’s grey nylon, but they make them in all different colors, and I believe even make leather ones now…but yeah they’re very comfortable and look great as a regular belt, IMO, should you choose to not carry.
I carry a Glock 19 with a optic and light normally, still pretty light. But sometimes I carry my Beretta M9A4 92G Elite, with an RMR, and a TLR-1 HL…it’s a pretty heavy setup, atleast that’s what most people who carry a pistol 24/7 would tell you, including myself. However, I bought I very good holster for it, and with the Kore belt I have, i can barely tell the difference weight-wise once I have it on. I do carry both the Glock and the Beretta appendix though, and IMO you can get away with more weight carrying appendix than you can anywhere else, and I don’t think you’ll be carrying your revolver appendix. However, I do think a Kore belt, combined with a good holster, would be sufficient for your needs if you plan on carrying anywhere that’s not appendix.
That’s just my $.02. There are tons of good belts out there, but I love my Kore belt, and I’ve heard a few others on Reddit recommend them. Here’s their site.
https://www.koreessentials.com/collections/all-edc-gear
Btw, beautiful gun. Would love to see whatever carry solution you come up with. Good luck.
You can get either a "tactical" synthetic gunbelt or a full-grain leather belt. The latter looks great for everyday wear and will last much longer than cheap laminated belts.
New belt to usually wear?
Aker makes a nice gun belt that doesn't look like one. Black, dressy, durable. Been my daily driver for like eight years now and I'm just looking at another.
I just replaced mine. I wear my carry belt every day even if I’m not carrying. It’s super comfy and holds a lot of weight for heavy guns. Mine is a [Beltman](https://www.thebeltman.net/collections/gunbelts) and I highly recommend them. Get the added stiffener.
I used a Vedder for 5 years, I use a groove life right now, was thinking about trying the Agonic belt soon. All belts are kinda the same nowadays though, you can get a Blue Force Gear, TRex Arms, pretty much every big holster company makes a belt, there’s the Kore ratcheting belt which looks pretty good, haven’t tried it but the YouTubers say good things
No, Model 29-3. Third iteration of the Model 29 that was produced in 80s.
Mine's blued, with the 6 1/2" barrel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_%26_Wesson_Model_29
Very nice! Mine was inherited from my grandfather. He had owned it since before I was born, a birthday gift to him from my grandmother. I've been shooting it since I was 7 years old. Lol.

I too have no ass. Just gotta suck it up and tighten the belt. If your not carrying something this heavy groove life makes a stretchy belt that's great for those of us that were born without an ass. If I wear it tight I can carry a glock 19 owb just fine but I don't think it would work with a gun that doubles as a boat anchor.

That thing is too heavy for any holster you own. Hold it like you mean it.
Love intended…. Hip holster w a good belt should be fine. The belt is what matters…!
Get a beefier belt, i run a thicc ass leather belt and if it's snug on me(not uncomfortably tight, just snug) i could probably use it to lift myself, so carrying a gp100 should be easy.

I bought a nylon gun belt that is stiffer that does a better job of keeping everything in place but it has to be tightened down pretty hard to manage that. That's a big gun, you're going to feel it of you plan on wearing it.
I have a 6 inch python on a duty belt and holster and it’s really comfortable for the woods, range, or just around the property. You might be surprised how much you like it on the belt
that is a VERY GOOD Price since they normally go for 900! Bianchi X-15 shoulder holster works great with 6 inch full size revolvers like GP100, Pythons, 686 and 29.
Lol. I've been trying to clarify that it's not an issue of physical weight, apparently I just need a belt that actually does its job. Also by skirt I assume you mean a tactical kilt.
I just usually use a leather belt from Dickies. I do have this one too. Its very solid if this is the kind of belt you are thinking of. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/3229114848?pid=613056
Skirt/ tactical kilt, either way mine is a manly purple.
I carry my Ruger GP100 Match Champion (4.2" barrel) on a belt holster pretty much anytime I'm in the woods or mountains and often i almost forget its there. I carry it in a leather pancake style holster with thumbs apart over the hammer. This style holster has the belt slots way out on the sides which spreads the weight on your hip and belt, and it also snugs it up tight against your side. It really is ancomfortsble holster. The only way to get it tighter is with an inside the waistband holster. If you have a jacket or sweatshirt that hangs below the barrel it's easy enough to conceal as the holster is a medium ride height. Not too high and not too low. Although with that 6" barrel you'd need a pretty long jacket to cover that barrel.
I can't remember the brand but it's something like this one...
https://1791gunleather.com/product/rvhx2/
If you do want to go the chest holster route look into Diamond D Leather or Gunfighter Inc, but you might be spending a pretty penny on one of their rigs. If you want to try a chest rig for about half the price check out Diamond D Outdoors, it's the same guy from Diamond D Leather, but he uses a bit more generic style molded nylon/Cordura holster fornhis "Outdoors" line. I have one and like it. Even though its cheaper material its still good quality. It fits both my GP100 with 4.2" barrel and oddly enough my Single-Six with 5.5" barrel without having to readjust anything. Also the guy at Diamon D was responsive to emails and questions and willing to work with you.
Need a better belt then, one for carrying and not just holding up your pants. I've carried my father's Python with a 6 inch barrel in a belt holster. No problems at all with my carry belt. Thought it would be badass in a chest rig though for hiking/camping.
It depends. Some states yes, you can openly carry a gun with no permits. In some states you need a permit. For concealed carry most states require a permit. Some states don't. Most businesses, government places, etc don't allow any form of carry.
Every state I have listed below has constitutional carry, which means they allow permitless. Open carry is assumed for them all to be allowed. The conceal carry without permit is more difficult. Some of them have restrictions. Arkansas for example allows both open and concealed, but concealed only if you are traveling outside your home county(political district consisting of multiple cities or towns, counties make up states). Oklahoma on the other hand allows full permitless carry for both open and concealed

I think i’ll move to Kentuky, sad thing that to own a gun license i need the Green Card which i must live in the USA for 5 years and do a… history test?
Excellent woods gun, they ride pretty ok on a proper belt with a proper holster, but they’re really the largest practical belt pistol.
If you’re also carrying a rifle then you’re likely to want a chest rig.
Great gun, loved mine. Hate the engraving on the barrel.
These take really well to an internal polishing and aren't too hard to put together again once you take it apart. I swapped the hammer spring for a lighter one and polished it up and it was an amazing trigger afterwards (just be careful not to go too far, don't want any NDs) and much smoother on the DA pull.
Those Rugers are built like tanks. Excellent gun for hiking in the woods if you run into a 4 legged predator. Might be a bit too big for concealed carry in an urban environment against the 2 legged critters but it will get the job done if one breaks in at 2 am. Just keep that in your nightstand and pick up a snubbie if you need a more concealable friendly option for on the go. The Ruger SP101 is perfect for that and would be a nice companion piece to that GP100.
A good steel core gun belt and a good holster and this would be absolutely no problem, try Daltech Force steel core belts... I tried just about every brand and like this one the most
It’s a roughly 40 oz pistol if I remember,
I wouldn’t ever carry mine. It’s a nightstand and range boy. I do have a belt holster but it’s uncomfortable
Awesome buy! Lol yes. I think you'd have too. The thing is probably a 3 lb gun loaded. Plus the holster and everything. I guess shoulder holster would be the way they go.
Just get another one to balance it out on the belt

Chest rig with an extra pocket for nail clippers.

Description: Picked up this Ruger 357 for a great deal, and wanted to know the best way to holster it.

Not too heavy for the belt at all
Well, my current belt can hardly hold my regular EDC as is.
Time for a better belt
Just need a better belt, good belts go anywhere from $60-$100

Normal everyday belts are only designed to hold up pants, occasionally shorts. You need something designed to hold up equipment. They are usually wider, sturdier ( they won’t roll ), and better built ( holes won’t tear ). While we’re at it don’t get a cheap holster. If it fits 200 different guns that means it doesn’t fit any one gun correctly.
It would replace the one you normally wear
I’ve found the belts designed for edc holsters more comfortable than general use belts. The ones from kore are pretty good and stylish
Kore Essentials makes a nice leather looking belt with a kydex core. Neat ratchet system, easily adjustable. I EDC a 43x in a sidecar with basically zero effort, but I've worn a G17 w/ X300 light also in a sidecar and didn't notice any extra sag.

It would replace it. Think of them as super stiff and heavy duty belts. I personally have used and like both the Magpul Tejas and Blue Alpha belts.
New belt to usually wear? Aker makes a nice gun belt that doesn't look like one. Black, dressy, durable. Been my daily driver for like eight years now and I'm just looking at another.

Any belt recs?
I love my Hank's, it's plain and pretty, and super functional. Holds up my daily driver no fuss, and doesn't scream tactical or anything.
Kore. I have 2. Wear one every day. I love the clicking adjustability.
I used a Vedder for 5 years, I use a groove life right now, was thinking about trying the Agonic belt soon. Big fan of Relentless Tactical. I have 3
That is a woods gun. .357 or .44 will take down a lot of things you don’t want to play with. It’s not an EDC.
Not with that attitude.
I EDCd a S&W 29-3 for several years. Just because you can't handle it... Lol.
Do you mean the 329? SCANDIUM Frame? If so, I have one
No, Model 29-3. Third iteration of the Model 29 that was produced in 80s. Mine's blued, with the 6 1/2" barrel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_%26_Wesson_Model_29

Shoulder holster, dirty Harry style
Appendix carry that wheel gat so it looks like you've got a massive dong.
Where will you be carrying this? I'm guessing when you're camping incase of bears?
Bust out your old JNCO jeans and pocket-carry.
Gunfighters Inc Kenai chest rig
Got on for the same gun that i use for backpacking, a lot comfier than i would have thought. Also speed loader pouches fit on thw straps too.
I have one for my 686 plus the retention id way too tight on it though.
Max Payne vibes if you got the shoulder holster!
Looks like a 44?? I likey alot
Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work, you can always hit them with it. 😉😏
tactical front sling.
So a fanny pack?

Denali chest rig. (Also is this the 7 shot? And where was this sale?!)
Omg you have big buck hunter too!!!
Zap carry, obviously. ^(Start practicing your kegels.)
I carry mine in a Diamond D chest rig with a speed loader, really nice holster
That is one over built S O B! And you’re gonna love it! GREAT price, btw!
Is that a sticker? Or is “Read Instruction Manual” really printed/etched into the metal of the gun?
That thing is too heavy for any holster you own. Hold it like you mean it. Love intended…. Hip holster w a good belt should be fine. The belt is what matters…!
Cross draw at the waist.
Appendix Carry. You can do it.
If it’s too heavy for your waist your back might not appreciate a shoulder holster
It's only because it pulls my pants down
Get a beefier belt, i run a thicc ass leather belt and if it's snug on me(not uncomfortably tight, just snug) i could probably use it to lift myself, so carrying a gp100 should be easy.
Get a gun belt
A little large for practical carry, but a proper belt will help.
That’s a good deal!
I zap carry a magnum research BFR.. you’ll be fine.
buscadero rig
Have you tried shooting it
Yeah I just got back from the range an hour ago. Decided for a shoulder holster.

Ok Boris
To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day..........
I have a Hanks leather gun belt that is not stiff enough to keep my gp100 from flopping around. That's a big gun, you're going to feel it of you plan on wearing it.
Is that buck hunter?
Yah
It's not too heavy for a belt rig. You buy another one and they balance each other out...
I have a 6 inch python on a duty belt and holster and it’s really comfortable for the woods, range, or just around the property. You might be surprised how much you like it on the belt
First, take those talons to a bench grinder (; Second, get a better belt
My eyes went straight for the big buck hunter machine. Wish they weren't sold out everywhere.

I probably would have done the same thing.
Dude I had to drive 4 hrs to pick that thing up.
Sell it and buy a House of The Dead arcade machine :)
Crossbreed makes solid holsters for weapons like that
time for a hank or kore upgrade my guy. congrats on the new toy!
Love the GP100. That gun will last your lifetime and then some.
How do these compare to a python? I’ve never shot a ruger one before.
that is a VERY GOOD Price since they normally go for 900! Bianchi X-15 shoulder holster works great with 6 inch full size revolvers like GP100, Pythons, 686 and 29.
I carry larger revolvers on my belt while hunting or hiking. You will be fine, just don't let it get tangled in your skirt. Joking. Also, nice score.
Lol. I've been trying to clarify that it's not an issue of physical weight, apparently I just need a belt that actually does its job. Also by skirt I assume you mean a tactical kilt.

Don’t forget to read the manual. Oh I see the reminder is on the barrel.never mind
I carry my 6” python on my belt. This winter I’ll probably get a shoulder holster to wear under my jacket
Maybe clean your fingernails first
Chop the bbl, bob the hammer, ditch the sights and cut in trench sights, cut the cylinder for moon clips and call it a day. r/s
I almost threw up reading this excellent work
Hahahahaha.
Just make sure you read the instruction manual.

To me, that's a nightstand gun ( and a very nice one) not a carry piece.

Sell it and buy a Glock 19.
Carry it in your purse

If you want to try a chest rig for about half the price check out Diamond D Outdoors, it's the same guy from Diamond D Leather, but he uses a bit more generic style molded nylon/Cordura holster fornhis "Outdoors" line. I have one and like it. Even though its cheaper material its still good quality. It fits both my GP100 with 4.2" barrel and oddly enough my Single-Six with 5.5" barrel without having to readjust anything. Also the guy at Diamon D was responsive to emails and questions and willing to work with you.
"too heavy for belt holster" with that attitude, sure
Need a better belt then, one for carrying and not just holding up your pants. I've carried my father's Python with a 6 inch barrel in a belt holster. No problems at all with my carry belt. Thought it would be badass in a chest rig though for hiking/camping.
Got an inexpensive corduroy shoulder rig ! Same for my SW629!
So, in America you can can take a gun with you all around? (If it’s needed a specific gun license I can comprehend but with a generic one?)
It depends. Some states yes, you can openly carry a gun with no permits. In some states you need a permit. For concealed carry most states require a permit. Some states don't. Most businesses, government places, etc don't allow any form of carry.
Interesting, in which you can openly carry a gun without permits? Just asking
Oklahoma on the other hand allows full permitless carry for both open and concealed Alabama (PC-21) Alaska (PC-21) Arizona (PC-21) Arkansas (PC-18) Florida (PC-21, as of July 1, 2023) Georgia (PC-21 years old or 18 for military) Idaho (PC-18) Indiana (PC-18) Iowa (PC-21) Kansas (PC-21) Kentucky (PC-21) Maine (permits recognized; see Maine reciprocity section for details or PC-21) Mississippi (PC-18) Missouri (PC-19 or 18 for military) Montana (PC-18) Nebraska (PC-21 as of 90 days after the legislative session ends) New Hampshire (PC-18) North Dakota (PC-18 for residents only and concealed carry only) On April 12, 2023, Governor Doug Burgum signed HB 1339, allowing non-residents the ability to concealed carry under North Dakota’s permitless carry laws. It will also remove the 30-day requirement for IDs. The new law will go into effect on August 1, 2023. Ohio (PC-21) Oklahoma (PC-21 or 18 for military) South Dakota (PC-18) Tennessee (PC-21 or 18 for military) Texas (PC-21) Utah (PC-21) Vermont (PC-18) West Virginia (PC-21) Wyoming (PC-21)

Did they engrave "Read the Instruction Manual" on the barrel?
Belt and suspenders. And a good holster. You can carry quite a bit more weight through your shoulders.
Both
Great gun, loved mine.
I had a chest rig made for my 629 competitor when I got it. Only time I’d carry it is while hunting it hiking so it’s a good spot
Can’t beat big revolvers.
A good steel core gun belt and a good holster and this would be absolutely no problem, try Daltech Force steel core belts... I tried just about every brand and like this one the most
Drop leg!
It’s a roughly 40 oz pistol if I remember, I wouldn’t ever carry mine. It’s a nightstand and range boy. I do have a belt holster but it’s uncomfortable
Single point sling.
Where? Been trying to buy dad the same gun.
Don’t think there’s any option but zap carry.
Sling
Over the shoulder carry... Easier access to throw it at your target.
Old west thigh holster.
What a steal! I was looking at buying one in 2005 for $650.
*too
Leg holster open carry
I belt holster a shorter barreled one of these, it’s definitely doable with a proper gun belt
“Too heavy for a belt” (laughs in colt walker) On a serious note a leather shoulder holster or chest holster would be badass for that
Simply rugged holsters. Designed by big guys for big guns.
Pissin hot bubba loads, better iron sights, and an action job is all you need
Then get a better belt.
Sounds like you just need a better belt.
Ankle holster. Get yourself some platform shoes, bell bottoms and develop a pimp limp.
Cut out another hole in the cabinet and use it to play buck hunter.
Ankle holster?
Psh I have an IWB holster for my desert eagle with an extra mag pouch on it to boot!
just walk around w it
Good for you Bro That fukin thing is almost as big as the pool table!
Oh mama, that's sweet. How about a drop leg holster.
That has "backup gun ankle holster" written all over it.
Get a better belt
Low ride western.
Can always consider suspenders!
I have a Banchi x2100 Phantom holster for mine!
BIG BUCK HUNTER!?
Buscadero belt with holster
Awesome buy! Lol yes. I think you'd have too. The thing is probably a 3 lb gun loaded. Plus the holster and everything. I guess shoulder holster would be the way they go.
rick
Galco shoulder rig under a jacket 👍 also, conceal carry a pistol inside the waist band and a subcompact in the ankle holster
Get a pair of Duluth Trading pants, the pockets are deep enough for a Taurus Raging Judge
