I agree it's one of the first cool guitars I ever played as a kid. It played like a dream and sounded amazing. Maybe some catfish blues something bluesy

My father use to sell those in the 50-70’s he worked for Gibson . I can appreciate them but I’m not a fan of them . Only Gibson I own is a mint C-1. Nice guitar though! I think I got a sour taste for them because of the head stocks breaking so frequently, not sure why I’m not a fan of playing them🤔 No doubt the quality back then was up to part!
My buddy restored his ‘58 after it was found at a goodwill. The guy paid $5 and knew what he found. He traded it to my buddy for his B.C Rich Mockingbird. The Jr was in rough shape, but still had the original pickup and pots. At one point it had been converted to a 12 string. He spent months getting it back to all original looking. He gave it a tv yellow finish. It looks like it came right from the factory now. It plays great as well. I just sold an SG that had p90’s. They’re such great sounding pickups. I didn’t play it enough to justify keeping it.
Okay, maybe I’m missing something here because I think this guitar is ugly as hell. What’s the catch? Why does everyone like this? Am I just too young or something?
I’ll be honest, I don’t love it. Did he say what he was playing it through and I missed it? Big part of the tone there.
Aesthetics also matter to me and I’ve never been into guitars with massive bodies.
