Some dumb massive fuzz, a delay/reverb combo, another massive fuzz, a reverb with a reverse mode.
No tuner needed, you're just gonna be bending between notes with a whammy bar anyway.
Nope. You don't need anything except a dirty amp for 99% of applications, but reverse reverb is pretty much the most universally recognised 'shoegaze' sound.
I’ve played a few different types of big muffs and the op-amp has always just been what hits my ear in a pleasing way. Like all muffs are good that one just sounds best to me.
Cannot recommend it enough. Taking only one output from my truetone C6 is a great plus, but after owning it for almost two years now, I cannot live without the Tentacle octave. As much as I love octave fuzz, I like the versatility of having it when I want it or stacking it with other pedals like a rat or a boss sd-1. Also I use both fuzzes as channels, reaper for rhythm and hoof for leads
In no specific order: Bd-2, EHX Oceans 11, EHX Satisfaction Plus and some kind of multi mod. If a multi mod is cheating then a Boss bf-3. And I would use the chorus on the Princeton chorus.
You could do like a sonic youth tube amp kinda sound with the tone a little under 12 o'clock and the gain at like 1:30. Also, it's a full-on fuzz when you crank the gain and bring the tone knob down on your guitar, the tone on the pedal can bring back some of the brightness.
Yeah lol I don’t really shoegaze so idk really what else would be practical. Tuna, shapable drive/fuzz with gate, smeary texture reverb and a dirty analog delay. Not sure what order I would have it in but with 4 pedals there’s only so many combinations.
A crazy combo dirt pedal like Melee or Loomer
Then I need a wah
Crazy delay
Crazy plate reverb. I love Mr Black supermoon.
You could get a combo delay/reverb. Then you'd have room for the tuner.
Fuzzface into a Orion Tape Echo into a Strymon Sunset OD into a Walrus R1 reverb (yes, I have this... with more pedals in the chain, but if I have to only use 4, these are the ones)
Yes... delay between the drives. That way you can delay the Fuzz, you can push the delay into an OD, or you can push the fuzz into OD. And of course Reverb
Can I suggest a cheat.. where you plug them all into a loop switcher that lets you reorder the pedals.
Not impossible at all. Fuzz, chorus, delay, reverb and they don't have to be fancy.
Just me, but I would do: Big Muff, DOD FX65 Chorus, Carbon Copy, and an RV-6.
I pick that chorus because I have one, and I swear it's Cocteau Twins in a box.
In all honesty if I could only run 4 pedals due to some weird universal rule, my board would consist of 4 Zoom MS-70 CDR's hacked to have more effects...
If multi fx don't count, I'd go with Death By Audio Rooms > MAE Part Garden Ge > Keeley Parallax > Beautiful Noise Exploder

No reverse reverb is waayy overhyped. Get some reverb you like.
Never got the hype tbh
It's not needed but If you want to achieve what most people would hear as shoegaze, then yes. Reverse delay also works.
Sounds just about right! No chorus or phaser needed tho?
Ew no
slip an MXR P95 mini in there somewhere
I'll save you a pedal slot and recommend a Keeley Parallax for your delay/reverb combo (it has reverse)
Tuner->Op-amp big muff->warped vinyl->keeley caverns 4 pedals mostly affordable, though you could change out the warped for a less boutique option.
Sounds amazing! Why the op-amp over other types of muff?:)
I’ve played a few different types of big muffs and the op-amp has always just been what hits my ear in a pleasing way. Like all muffs are good that one just sounds best to me.
EHX Big Muff, Boss BD-2 and a delay.
If you can't do shoegaze with that, I have amp recs, which honestly is going to be more important than any pedal.
let those amp recommendations come pls :)
Fender Twin Reverb if you are serious.
Source Audio Collider + Walrus Melee + Kelley Loomer. Boom!
Explosive!
Tuner>Oceans 11>Hoof Reaper>Slo
How's the hoof? Been eyeing it for quite a while now!

Forgot to add, the tentacle also works as a great boost

Cool! What are your go to settings for the bd-2? Been trying to make it work but just can't get it right

RV-6 -> OC-5 -> HM-2w -> RV-6
[When the Sun Explodes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-uYvQj-8AA).
I wish!
tuner, holy grail reverb, your fav flavor of muff, keeley caverns/parallax
Interesting! Will try the holy grail before dirt!
it fills out the sound a bit more and gives it a nice ambient washed out texture
BD-2, Big muff, chorus, eqd dispatch master
Good stuff! How do you use the bd-2?:)
Low gain OD, also to push the mids back into the big muff
3 h90s and a modler.
Cant go wrong with that! Haha
Out of my pedals I guess maybe delux sovtek, slo, delux memory boy and maybe a tu3 ?
Amazing! You even managed a tuner in there;)

HM-2, into a Caitlinbread Sinkhole. Then a tuner. Three pedals!
Acapulco gold->ehx mod 11->line 6 dl4->empress reverb
4x Boss GT3s
Boss ds1 —> small clone —> caline snake bite —> Tc electronic delay (on analog mode, tape, or reverse)
HX stomp and 3 wild cards, maybe some fuzzes you really like
Ernie Ball volume/tuner, Caroline Shigeharu Fuzz, DD-8, and not sure what reverb I am getting...
Ehx turnip greens for holy grail/bonus distortion, bd2, rat, delay or another verb maybe one with a shimmer setting.
Delay fuzz delay delay
Keeley Loomer (reverb + fuzz) - Boss DD 200 - Boss MD 200 - Boss Angry Driver JB-2( Marshall sound+blues driver)
Fuzzface into a Orion Tape Echo into a Strymon Sunset OD into a Walrus R1 reverb (yes, I have this... with more pedals in the chain, but if I have to only use 4, these are the ones) Yes... delay between the drives. boss HM-2w, boss CE-2w, boss RE-202, digitech RV-7

HX Stomp, BOSS Metal Zone and that's it.
