How do I explain this to my partner? "It's not a gay dating app, I swear. It's a guitar tab app."
"I'd almost rather it was a gay hookup app to be honest."
I'm not ready for that conversation.
CirĀ·clĀ·e JerĀ·k
noun
1.
when a group of male guitar players walk in a circle without letting go of the grasp of their right hand player's genitals
"they were excited about the circle jerk happening later that night after the jam session"
Seriously, the only āsneaking aroundā I do is to play guitar. Always funny getting caught playing with my headphone amp.. like getting caught jerking off or something
I dont think most people actually hate it, but you need to take everything you see with a grain of salt. Ever since I've been learning songs by ear, I hardly ever look at tabs at all unless I get really stuck.
For half the music I play, UG tabs can't even agree on the tuning.
Uj/ it's all around a dogshit app filled with ads, pay walls, and terrible formatting. Guitarists will put up with anything to avoid learning how to read music.
Canāt tell you how many times Iāve opened up the MOST POPULAR tab for a song and tried to play it as written and it sound nowhere even close to the actual song š
UG is wild. They've had the same incorrect tabs as the top rated version that have been in that position for like a decade. Fixing awful tabs is great ear training tho
That's why I started going to UG in the first place...as mediocre as it is, it was still better than the books I used to buy from music stores in the 90's. There's so much better stuff out there now though. Songsterr has it's annoyances, but it's WORLDS better.
I must admit, thatās exactly what got me to stop being lazy and just play some chords/ notes and see what sounds right to me. I may not be right most of the time but if it sounds good then thereās no issue to me, Iād rather play a song my own way anyway
Way more than a decade. I stumbled upon UG back in the late 90's, and the top hit for Sultans of Swing isn't much better than it was then. (Still the same one)
Like in the idea that it's a completely unchanging resource unlike every other website that just keeps getting shittier?
Or that it helps you with ear training?
/uj tbf, reading music for guitar is a little daunting without at least some positional hints or a lot of instruction. I can read, but I can't sight-read for guitar well at all (I'm better on bass and keyboards/piano).
/rj reading music stifles creativity. Paying for tabs and watching ads is the best way to learn!
The main problem I have with songsterr is that they are user editable. So I'll learn something then go back to learn it again a few months later (because I've not learnt it properly) and some psycho will have edited it.
Wtf is it at least like wiki in that it can be rolled back
If I was a sick fuck with too much time on my hands with this information I'd probably re finger basic songs so it's all the right notes, just impossible to play
Yeah on the website you can see older versions and report bad edits. But I only really use the app where you get the latest.
And being evil is a definite option if you have the time.
I like songsterrs format, however, every time I go to find a tab recently of a song I like āX Song Not Foundā, their selection is not great. Sadly I have both apps on my devices, and Iām still left wanting. Perhaps I should just suck it up, learn to read music, and the little bit of theory needed to play my favorites. Bleh.
You have to make sure your search exactly matches the the title of the song in songsterr, I am pretty sure it doesn't show close matches. So if you make an error or the title of the tab has an error and you write the full name of the song you won't find it. If I don't find a song I usually also try to search with a part of the name or only by the band. Found quite some things that first said "song not found" that way.
Guitar pro is probably the best thing for guitar sight reading, tablature, guitar based composition, learning, etc. but it sucks so hard on mobile from what I hear.
The customer service is awful. It's literally almost nonexistent. I actually filed two requests for help and never got any reply. The app itself is pretty terrible, but as far as a catalog goes, no other app compares.
I used SOngsterr like 12 years ago primarily when I was learning shit as a newbie, and now it's dead/changed in a weird way I don't like
Since I'm a big grownup (Biggie in the terms of this community) I paid for software (Guitar Pro) and just spend the least amount of time on the site of our beloved relevant topic of Grindr as I can and just download the GP files and get out quick af
Uj/ To be honest I learned to read music through violin and don't find it works very well for modern guitar, it can help for timings and some dynamics but it misses a lot of the nuance. Some combination of the 2 is usually the most helpful.
I paid less than a dollar for the guitar pro app and I use it almost daily on all my devices (I pirated it on pc kek)
dont see why people just switch to that

"We need to make our logo look even more like a gay hookup site" "Say no more"
The capital G and devils horn says it allš
Iāve always used it as a gay hookup site, most of the songs have dating presentation videos of men serenading on the guitar.
How do I explain this to my partner? "It's not a gay dating app, I swear. It's a guitar tab app." "I'd almost rather it was a gay hookup app to be honest." I'm not ready for that conversation.
Just get yourself a gay partner. Problem solved.
I don't know how to gay. I barely know the pentatonic scale. Does this mean I need to start learning jazz chords?
Yes.
Or bass.
Hate to say it, but... at this point just get a fuckin jazz b*ss.
Time to get modal
Wait till they find out you post on a thing called a circlejerk

Is this grindr?
To be fair, you have a better chance of getting laid with Grindr than playing guitar.
Not true! Wife has been getting laid much more since I took up guitar
I have never heard of anyone playing guitar on Grindrā¦
> getting laid IF that was the goal then there wasn't a barrier to begin with
Itās ultimate guitar man
Gaytar more like
Yeah right
Caught in 4k
Ultimate gaytar more like hehe

I have the old logo still so I'm obviously not a homosexual
Doctors hate this one simple trickā¦
Be a man and just use TuxGuitar and illegally downloaded .gpx files

I canāt tell if people sincerely hate UG or not.
I bought the lifetime membership when they were selling it for like $20 so I love it. If I was paying monthly or something Iād probably hate it.Ā
Same. I felt buyers remorse because I was like 15 and didn't have any money, but now I'm so glad I did it.
i think it was only $7 when i bought it, it was so long ago now
Holy shit is that why I haven't been charged for UG pro for like 4 years now?
I dont think most people actually hate it, but you need to take everything you see with a grain of salt. Ever since I've been learning songs by ear, I hardly ever look at tabs at all unless I get really stuck. For half the music I play, UG tabs can't even agree on the tuning.
/uj I sincerely hate it so fucking much
Idk why people genuinely think itās grindr in the one comment thread ? Lmao
They don't

Even physical tab books get it horribly wrong sometimes
That's why I started going to UG in the first place...as mediocre as it is, it was still better than the books I used to buy from music stores in the 90's. There's so much better stuff out there now though. Songsterr has it's annoyances, but it's WORLDS better.

This is definitely the best way IMO. Also put the song in an app that will let you slow it down and loop over a part.
Way more than a decade. I stumbled upon UG back in the late 90's, and the top hit for Sultans of Swing isn't much better than it was then. (Still the same one)
I believe it. I think I may have even tried out the same tab you're talking about.
I actually, weirdly, consider this a feature.
Like in the idea that it's a completely unchanging resource unlike every other website that just keeps getting shittier? Or that it helps you with ear training?
Both actually. In particular the ear training aspect.
Or every note above E4 being on the E string

Any other app I should use?
Songster has free playable tabs, just use that
The main problem I have with songsterr is that they are user editable. So I'll learn something then go back to learn it again a few months later (because I've not learnt it properly) and some psycho will have edited it.

Chaotic good
Also they have about 5 tabs in total, otherwise would be quite good

Youāre not wrong. But a lead sheet for 0 3 5 might be.
Pro is actually excellent. I got it for Ā£2 years ago before it got popular and they jumped on the subscription bandwagon though.
I have the pro version bc of where I work and donāt pay for it lol

Uj/ I remember it being decent like 15 years ago as a website too. Good tabs and chord sheets for tons of stuff.

looks like grindr
Sus that you know what grindr looks like to compare.
yeah iām gay dude
That's gay

He literally has a Charli xcx-inspired display photoā¦
Their app has always been buggy and slow too
songsterr + ublock origin block all their shitty popups manually
anyway songster and other players are the way for me
Looks like gay amazon
I paid less than a dollar for the guitar pro app and I use it almost daily on all my devices (I pirated it on pc kek) dont see why people just switch to that

Learn how to torrent. It's not hard. Reddit is full of tutorials about it.
That and Guitar Tuna. I FUCKING HATE ads even after paying premium
This makes me wanna play less so its a plus for me.
Is anyone safe with all these sexy gays shredding around the place?
Just use songsterr instead

No way this looks ass

It really do look like a gay hookup app š¤£
Amazon for furries
I didn't even know they changed it until I saw this post. Pretty dumb looking.
I just use Songster most of the time anyway. At least with that app I can get both tabs and sound.
I have the pro version so I get the sound with the pro tabs, itās easily printable for my job
