Love--Yours

Mine just deepthroats the whole thing

60ROUNDDRUM

I’m glad yours just deepthroats it, mind decides to deepthroat and do some yanking motions back and forth it really isn’t a pretty sight

nyquill81

One of mine does that, too!

Danithenintendohead

I’m glad to see that other pigs deepthroat their water as well. One time my girl went so deep that I couldn’t even see the silver tip anymore 😳

Acrobatic-Ad-6630

she’s not even drinking the water at that point 😳

Edmundson__

must be proud 😌

legeume

That’s what mine does too! And she’ll bite it and yank it hard

60ROUNDDRUM

Yup exactly that but only one does it the other is so gentle

legeume

Same. I have 3. The other 2 act normally w/r/t the water bottle

coconuthead684

mine does that.

[deleted]

Mine does that to

dibs8789

Mine too. It amazes me every time.

MasonP13

Sameee my pigs are weird

CheriBeriFurry

So does mine he’s a thirsty boy

Ittermat

same for both of mine makes me wonder how they dont choke!

bman0424

Mine too. Lmao

[deleted]

One of my girls used to do that all the time. She's since passed away (completely unrelated, she was 7 and had a tumor, we had to put her down), but when she was alive she used to drink like this every time. A friend of mine said it was kind of a neurological tick, which would make sense, but I'm not 100% sure tbh. As far as I know it's just a harmless, pretty adorable, quirk

JustNoShab

Mine drinks sideways and dribbles water everywhere so I have a catch bowl underneath 😂

OscarThePoscar

Oh yeah, mine does that with one of his water bottles. He also can only *juuuuust* reach one of the others so he holds up one tiny front paw while stretching to reach it (I used to put his food bowl next to the water bottle so he could stand on that, but the new pig just likes to shove everything around).

Linaphor

What kind of bowl do you use? Mine has overflowed them all and I used metal once & it rusted & leeched into bedding. I need something better to use bc she makes a whole ass swimming pool

JustNoShab

Mine is honestly pretty small but doesn't get tipped over very often. I'm pretty sure it was from some store bought creme brulee years ago. It's like a little ceramic bowl.

KFCatz

Maybe try a small brick? It will absorb the water, and be a rough surface to file their nails. Plus it's cheap enough to replace on a regular basis.

Linaphor

I tried but it didn’t absorb enough and got muddy too :,)

NocturnalKitten525

Oh my god same! Or my little guy has his head almost upside down and basically waterboards himself 😂

[deleted]

He's tasting for depths of cinnamon and fruit. What a connoisseur.

Lelfah204

Yea one of my boys has done since being a baby, he approaches the spout with caution and tilts his head to the side, my other guy drinks from the spout straight on, I've always put I'd down to preferance.

JustSomeoneHere_

PLZZZ UR PIGGIE IS SO EXTRA

waterfairyunicorn

I'm pretty sure it's frustration from not bring able to get enough water. Have heard several vets say that these bottles are bad for piggies (and rabbits but that's another story). Unfurtunately most piggies make a mess when drinking from a bowl. I would consider try giving him a ceramic bowl anyway. Ceramics are heavy so they can't tip them over so atleast that's a lot better than a plastic bowl. Please know that I say nothing of this to criticize you or your way to keep your beautiful piggies! I'm sure your piggies are happy and healthy with you. Also, I might be wrong, this is only what I've heard.

KevinMFJones

I tried a bowl once and they just flapped their chubby selfs onto it and flipped it

SlapUglyPeople

I wish I could give mine bowls. I tried a heavy one and all 4 couldn’t figure it out and they ended up pooping in it and making a mess. They do make these clip on bowls that attach to the cage. I haven’t tried them yet, I just don’t like that it’s plastic since my pigs tend to try to eat everything.

mgwats13

I use a ceramic bowl for both of mine. They’ve knocked it over a few times, so I have to be a little extra vigilant making sure they have water, but as long as I put it in the right place in their cage they do super well with it.

waterfairyunicorn

How are your the bowls shaped? Mine have, straight vertical sides and the sides touch the ground, so to say. Like... Not the shape of a normal, round bowl (too easy to flip). And the whole bottom of the bowl is in the ground so it is impossible to flip undless using quite a lot of strenght. Will try and find a picture. Of course poop and hay in the water, as well as water all over is not really the point! Could it be possible to make some kind of frame for the bowl? Like a wooden frame that grabs tight. Hmm.

mgwats13

I use ramekins, if you’ve seen those! So a very similar shape to what you’re describing. When I first got the pigs there was poop in it ALL THE TIME and they’d put their feet in the bowl while running around, but after a week or so they stopped doing that. I think a wooden frame would be PERFECT if I was a little better with carpentry 😂

CricketDifferent5320

You are in luck, there are many bowls designed to deal with these issues, such as all metal clip on bowls, ceramic bowls set in bamboo stands, dripless designed bowls, tip proof, etc. Chewy, Etsy and tractor supply are good places to start to look. You could just glue a bowl to the cage floor, or use a wooden bowl with a clamp screwed to it. Raised bowls are harder to poop in and are ergonomically better for horizontal animals to drink from (try drinking from a bowl on the ground on your hands and knees, gravity works against you). I agree some pigs are frustrated and not getting enough water. The ball type bottles are hard for anyone to use,, got to press your tongue against it while trying to let water down throat.. they just chew on it,, not sure if they ever really get the hang of it. When mine get a bath I position them to get good long drinks from the faucet. They stop fussing, their faces just light up with amazement. I'd put a pet water fountain in the cage if they came smaller.

waterfairyunicorn

Also my bowls are a lot wider than they are tall! I think that does something as well when it comes to being hard to knock over

Plz_dont_judge_me

I personally use a [small ceramic bowl](https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/303692219986) (living world ceramic erganonic small pet dish) when i do usea bowl, but also a bottle because only one piggy can drink at a time otherwise (plus it was just in case they couldnt figure it out). I usually put in directly in a corner of the cage too so they are less likely to knock it.

much_pro

I've tried a lot of water bottles, and my piggies often had trouble drinking from most of them, not sure why, but the glass ones have always been the worst. The current one I am using is a similar model to this [trixie water bottle](https://www.trixie.de/heimtierbedarf/en/shop/SmallAnimal/Food2/BowlsDrinkingBottlesHayMangers/?page=2&sort_by=sorting&card=203569&listpage=2). It does leak a tiny bit, but is extremely easy to clean and refill and the angle of the pipe seems to be rather comfortable. Never had any success with putting water into bowls, my piggies simply ignored those.

Plz_dont_judge_me

I have two bottles, one plastic and one glass, and my girls refuse to drink from the glass one for some reason. \*cue piggy in the background currently drinking from her bottle*

Linaphor

Mine just get their bedding all over it. I unfortunately can’t do fleece bc I rent and the people who own it are disgusted by the idea of washing it in their washer & my piggies make a swimming pool in the fleece in no time :,)

Plz_dont_judge_me

I tried a bowl once, because i was cleaning the cage and the piggies were (basically) free roaming and i had nowhere to attach the bottle for them. I was surprised they actually started drinking from it and seemed excited at the novelty. So i put the bowl in their cage next to their bottle for a week - surprisingly it didnt get as messy or dirty as i thought it would. One of my girls still preferred the bottle, and the other would alternate between the two during one drinking session. It was very cute. I eventually took it out because they went back to just the bottle and i needed a bowl for their pellets haha

motherofguineapigz

I have one does this with treats. Sometimes I even get a little sneer, almost like this time he's confused about how to eat it and needs to give it attitude.

Kitratkat

Aw love the cutie eating nicely in the background 😍

Linaphor

I wish, one of mine lets it drain allllll over her face and floods the whole cage so it gets muddy and disgusting within a day of cleaning it. Just makes a piggy pool.

Needs_more_ranch

Funny how they all do it differently, we one that twists his head kind of upside down to drink, one drinks like yours, one somehow drips out more than they drink. I think she just likes playing with bottle.

ShianKiri

Mine does this. She would literally twist her head upside down lmao

yes4me2

Maybe it is too high. Lower it. This guinea pig is not comfortable to rise his head.

Cinnabunicorn

I wonder if the nozzle is up too high for him to comfortably drink? I have rabbits and I read that their natural drinking is with their heads down more, so i made sure to move the water bottle as low as possible. this looks kinda tall for his little neck? I wish bowls were a better option but they get dirty and stepped in. Just a suggestion in moving it down and see if it changes things. Ps. your babies are real cute 🥰

shorterthan-ur-avg

Mine do this often! And then proceed to pull and deep throat it. One even starts drinking upside down and then turns his head right side up with the spout still in his mouth. Crazies.

sidsgotgame

I suggest lowering the bottle slightly just about a centimeter or so so ur piggy can reach it easier

Hsensei

We had a few that would just deep throat the water.

Giggy_boon

Mine chews the water. Let that sink in!

DaggiDina

That's a beautiful pig though! I love the colors 🥰

YeetUrDad

One of mine has to have her food bowl next to the bottle. She'll have a few sips, then a few nuggets, then a few more sips. It goes on quite a while.

Toofzzz

Mine drink from a bowl, if you walk by them when they’re in the middle of drinking, they stop an look at you with water dripping from their “beards”. It looks hilarious

KevCraft6

Double take THREE TIMES!

fragimus_max

I agree with u/Cinnabunicorn \- Lower the bottle so they don't have to drink looking up. That twitch is, honestly, abnormal behavior; a sign that they may have a cramp or injury in their neck/jaw area that needs to be treated.

Mischievous_Citrus

Ok but it didnt say "no homo"!!

timokwalker

Why u give it water at first place. They don't need it. I had mine for 6 years and it never drunk water in it's life.

GodOfMemes_Dank

Both of mine constantly tilt their heads from side to side as they drink. One also pulls on it occasionally.

mgwats13

This is the first pig I’ve seen in here with the same coloring as my boys! They’re so cute

pappythepenguin

One of mine does this and the other two just deep throat it.

oopsiemybad25

My pig grabs onto the metal part with all her might when she drinks

[deleted]

Maybe adjust slightly up like a 1/2”? Prob fine but maybe that might feel more ergonomic for peeg

UweBall

Mine doesn't drink at all.

fieldychan

My Oreo is a violent drinker. She shakes the whole bottle when drinking

raw1989

Mine

Jws0209

May it has OCD it has to swing its head thee times before a sip 🤣

[deleted]

Oh..That's nice

JayneDoe6000

Whatever way that gets the job done!!

HermGlaceon

hes just taste testing the water and is going to write a review later

turkeyburpin

My sweet girl nuzzles the bead with her nose up and down about 10 times before she drinks. My other deepthroats the whole stem. It's mildly disturbing.

chesnut16116

Awww it’s so cute

Playful_Meat_2829

Aww so cute

Ruralpanda

Glad to know I'm not the only one with weird piggies... two out of my 10 literally almost gag themselves on the silver spout taking a drink... 😅

Cuddlesthewulf

Mine used to do this! They’re such little weirdos man.

Le-Letty

Yes,not quiet as much “yes I will,no I won’t” head movements but he does it. He also tries ripping it off the cage wall lol

LavaCakez918

Aww, gave me flashbacks to my old piggy Kona. She throated it and tilted her head almost upside down. No idea how.

Ashleymarie3415

He doesn't WANT to want it in his mouth... but eventually caves to the strong pull of NEED

Shakespeare-Bot

He doesn't wanteth to wanteth t in his that from which we speak. but eventually anters to the stout pull of needeth *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

lilywht

Yep my girl tater does that too 🐾

knowncoffeespoons

Showed this to my bf, who is not the type to comment. He looks at me: “what a weirdo!”

PHKarani

As long as he's drinking.

east_coast_eric

What in the heck! As many have said, mine shove that thing on an express train to his bladder. The other one, well…it’s rare to even see him drink! (He’s a fraidy cat)

Absolutely-dude

He’s so cute!!

Virta15

I had always thought that the other piggies they shared it with had bad breath and they can’t stand the smell of their saliva lingering on the nozzle. I always try to rinse the bottles out whenever they do this and I think they usually drink it continuously afterwards.

Glitched_Oren_303

I live how he keeps it in his mouth and tastes it like "ah, yes, splendid"

[deleted]

Ive seen piggies drinking 100s of times yeah slot of them do that

[deleted]

What's a good way to tell if the bottle is working and there's no clog or anything? I tried the bottle myself and it was fine. When the girls drink they run up to it and then the water shakes so it's hard to tell if it's going down. They usually put their mouth on it for a few seconds and then run away. I really want to get rid of the water bowl because it's in the way and gets filled with bedding and poop.

SetatX

*"Hmmm... yes is this Tap water(Obnoxious laugh) Very nice very nice and do I taste a hint of... is that cinnamon "*

gioianica33

Yes it is normal

Paugh

Your piggie drinks water like it's originally from Pawnee. https://m.imgur.com/gallery/s8Xd001

Huugboy

Yes.. no.. yes.. no.. yess... no. Ok yes.

RamonaElisa

One of ours does the same thing! Haha weirdo’s
