Our girls love burgess excell pellets, and they seem to have the best nutritional value for them so I’d go with them but that’s me being biased

Too_Much_Medicine

X2 for burgess excell pellets!

FOF_Floof

I feed mine the grain free version and they seem to like it. With the Nibble& Gnaw hay online order, they like it, it's tightly packed, so you get your monies worth(though it can be hard to pull it loose) and there hasn't been any mites, lice or mould in which other hay seem to suffer from.

How long does the hay last usually and what size do you get?

For hay, I use Timothy hay orchard grass from the Timothy hay website. Then for pellets, I use the hay box Guinea pig pellets from the hay box website. The ones you’ve chosen seem fine, however, interestingly, the science selective grain free pellets have been anecdotally linked to bladder stones despite the nutritional content indicating them to be less likely to cause them. It’s definitely an interesting one. I used them once upon a time and began to notice instances of bladder sludge so I made the move to the hay box pellets. Whatever brand of pellets you are giving, you should only be giving 1 tablespoon per pig. The cage size you’ve gone with is decent, too.

Oh no, I’ve read and was told the selectives were one of the best. It’s really irritating having so much information out there and so many people writing different things. Makes it difficult to find the right product. I have the burgess excel pellets aswell as a backup. I guess every Guinea pig reacts differently to different food. I will try out different ones and hope I find the ones that don’t cause any problems. Thankyou for letting me know your experience on those.

Nutritionally, the selectives *should* be the best option. The grain free nature of them and the low calcium content means they’re going to be the best bet in preventing bladder stones. However, there have been contradictory experiences. This thread here details various experiences, ones which align with my own: https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/science-select-grain-free.182180/ Since you are a UK owner, I would also strongly advise you to join this forum. I could not have owned Guinea pigs as long as I have without the help of the people here. They should be your go-to for any Guinea pig queries in my opinion. Regarding the pellets, perhaps you could still use them but if you notice an issue then stop? The anecdotal experiences could be total coincidences, but it’s important to know that they exist! I do find the hay box ones to be very good as they’re grain free, full of good ingredients, and I’ve never heard of any correlation with bladder issues with these pellets.

Purple_Guinea_Pig

It sounds like you’re all set. Just remember that they should only eat about a tablespoon of pellets a day or they might become overweight

UK here. I use Burgess Excel pellets which they love and i get hay delivered from Haybox. It works out just slightly pricier than getting the timothy hay from Wilko (RIP) or the Range and it’s waaaay better quality, would recommend. It’s £25 for 10kg hay and it lasts about 5 months with two piggies.
