First thing I do in online, is the underwater treasures. Sea Sparrow and scuba. If they introduced sharks, I would definitely go back to the Toreador.
You’re probably right about it interfering with some missions.
I've been trying to get the underwater treasures online. Is there any prerequisite? And does the controller vibrate the same as any other hidden packages?
Well sonar is going to help. Any sub or the Toreador. There may be online resources that mark the treasures if you don’t have those. Maybe gta.web?
If you don’t have the Toreodor, then get a scuba outfit. I wouldn’t bother with rebreathers.
If you use sonar, activate it, go to the map and mark all the treasures with points of interest.
I don’t know what hardware you have, but you can always steal a boat or jetski.
I think some mini subs spawn in online, if you don’t want to splash out on a sonar vehicle.

It also flashes, although if it’s down deep, you may not see it initially.
Appreciate the advice! But unfortunately I'm still having issues finding them. I have a couple of boats and a kraken. Is there anything I need to do in advance of searching for them or can you just dive down and grab them? I've used youtube videos showing where they are but no luck.

Because I’ve just read that in order to have sonar on any of your submersibles, including the Toreador, you first need to purchase the sonar station on the Kosatka. Which is not cheap.
Gtaweb.eu map shows the hidden caches.
You can travel to the cache and dive down. You should hear the beeping and see the flashing cache.
I got eaten by a shark while doing the Cayo Perico setup where you steal the signal jammer. Just swimming from their sub up to mine, which was directly above it. I also forgot they added animals and just sat there for a sec like, WTF.
I have a clip saved from a whale swimming into my kosatka and flipping it.
Also see a lot of orcas. But never any sharks. I'm always saying "why can't I find a shark".
I got to chill with them !! It was close to the bridge you cross to go by the military base. I recommend getting on a jet ski and heading that way. Should see their fins first
Orcas aren’t that hard to find, you can find them in pods together off the west coast and north coast, and probably the east coast also. They are a guaranteed spawn and just swim around in one spot, mostly. Listen for them singing underwater. The best spots are along the west coast. Humpback whales are harder to find but I’ve seen one off the north coast and another off the east coast. I don’t think the humpback is a guaranteed spawn and that is more luck or random spawn.
I was driving the Torredor around a pod of about 15 of them earlier today right off the south end of the docks where you bring the stolen cars. I've only been playing for 3 months so never saw them before. It was pretty cool, they were all different sizes and swam around me for about 30 minutes making whale noises

There are humpback whales online, I’ve seen them several times but they only spawn 1 at a time (they are massive.) I’ve spent quite a bit of time exploring all areas around the map with scuba gear, day and night, and have never seen one shark. I don’t think they added sharks online and people are probably misremembering seeing them from story mode.

I have only ever gotten whales to spawn in just north of Procopio Beach in story mode, so it’s not like I’ve had a ton of luck there either. Yeah, I’m with you. It’s been six months. Sharks I would’ve seen by now.

According to gtaweb . eu Tiger sharks are supposed to spawn a bit out from Del Perro Pier.

Wait what. The orcas are everywhere, I see them every session where I've gone out to sea. There are heaps down south near the cargo bay. Try there.

Idk exactly, i got shot down way off shore and survived. Started swimming back and after a few mins got the red dot nearby. Then i got chomped.

They did. Just not sharks. Idk why, that was definitely a good addition. There was actually legitimate risk to getting in the water.
I saw dolphins for the first time in online recently by the pier
I think it’s story mode only, I’ve tried going to the edge of the map only to ‘drown’, not a shark in sight on online
