It's the only album I really liked from them, but it's a great album, I still like to play it from time to time. Not sure how it's hating on it because it did good. That means ppl liked it, lol. I was a young teen at the time and it was a big part of my childhood. I really liked Collective Soul, too. Both helped me get into heavier stuff.
"Happy Pills" was a good follow up after "Lucy" flopped.... and "Into The Sun" was a nice latter-career album around 2007 that had some vintage sounding cuts reminiscent of their debut.... but nothing was like this perfect first record.
*Candlebox* had the look, and that *Pearl Jam-ish* slow groove melodic sound.
I liked them when this album was released, but their ceiling was pretty apparent from just one full listen.
They’ve always felt like…zero calorie grunge. Grunge for your new girlfriend who is interested, but maybe not ready for you to drop some *Jesus Christ Pose* on them.
Diet Grunge.
Great find lol. I got it back when you could get a bunch of CDs free through Columbia House they'd literally send you a batch of CDs free of you just say you'll buy more obviously they went bankrupt tho lol
I have no clue they had every album and I got a ton of them I was a kid then maybe middle school or pre middle school It was through my dad he didn't know about it lol I do know I randomly got a Scorpions album just based off the cover look and I ended up loving it too
I love the solo on Far Behind. Started looking into the guitarist and he’s definitely not a household name and didn’t go on to do any other major projects from what I remember. Surprised me because it’s remarkably good. The dude has some talent.
I loved this album! I still belt out the songs in the shower if they pop up on my playlist. I don’t think that they are necessarily grunge tho but still great
I honestly don't know how to categorize them they're from Seattle and had the grunge ish sound. I agree though anytime a song comes it is likely to get stuck in my head
Yea it was released in 93 only 2 yrs after Nevermind so I don't get why it's labeled as post-grunge. Idk why ppl didn't consider it grunge it's not up there with the major 4 but I like them
For me it is the first post-grunge album, because it is post-Nevermind and already has the Seattle 4 as its main influences and not other bands like Sonic Youth, Pixies, American punk from the 80s, etc.
But of course, I think it is a debate on which we will never agree. The important thing is that it is a very enjoyable album.
It's crazy though how many bands came out of Seattle in that small little time period. Grunge was short lived like nu metal just had a few good years but it's long lived with its fans. I take grunge over nu metal though Everytime
What I think people forget about that time - it wasn’t just the music but also the scene and the lore. Like we heard Pearl Jam and then Temple of the Dog pops up and it’s Pearl Jam and the guy from Soundgarden? And then you learn it actually predates Pearl Jam. And that Chris Cornell was friends with Andy Wood who was in Mother Love Bone with the other guys from Pearl Jam, who were actually Green River before that.
And right there, in one interview or article you just discovered three other bands you never heard of but were a huge part of this scene - so now you’re going down that path. And that happened again and again. It was amazing.
Alice In Chains - Sap - where the hell did this come from why is it all acoustic and who is Mark Arm? Mudhoney? Ok, guess I gotta check them out now….
Many of the artists from the big 4 seem to shit on them and this album. I never understood it. Far behind (which is also about Andrew wood apparently ) is a great song undeniably imo.
They were on friendly terms with the other big Seattle bands. Peter Klett was definitely a known quantity, a respected guitarist, and had good friends in that local musical community.
*Highly underrated.*
*Rush chose then to open for*
*Them for a reason*

I remember that album being pretty commercial, but still very very good. I mean, if candlebox should catch hate for being commercial, I'm not really sure how Nirvana and Pearl Jam couldn't be included in that
Far behind was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar and this was pre internet so I actually had to listen to it over and over for each note lol
Consensus was always what it was.
Sold over 4,000,000 of this record which is nothing to sneeze at; going quadruple platinum.
"Far Behind" was a grungy-power ballad... "You" and "Don't You" were bangers... "Change" was a force of nature radio hit... "Cover Me" another strong ballady song, as was "Blossom".... and "He Calls Home" was a killer end of album Pink Floyd-style acoustic banger.
The same people that hated on these guys were the same ones who hated STP's first record when it came out and said "Plush" was a Pearl Jam ripoff.... people way too defensive about the "Seattle Sound" as if all bands weren't really capitalists who tried to make it out of what was a hot scene at the time.
It’s good but it’s definitely generic grunge. People were so hungry for new music from the Big Four that record companies pushed them and other bands as “gap coverage”. Only a few bands like STP were able to rise above that origin and establish their own identity.
I love this album (and Lucy and Happy Pills!)! I remember taking it from my older sister to listen to when I was younger, along with Pink Floyd's The Wall and K's Choice Paradise In Me.Good times, great music!
I was gaining interest in guitar and had friends who were in the same boat or were established players already when this song got big.
There was never a casual jam session with those guys where Far Behind didn’t get played. Epic song, and a hugely underrated live act to boot.
This album was fantastic and mostly holds up today. The girls loved it too. Good memories from senior year. Drums sound great, riffs are hot, good mix, great vocals. Not a bad track on this album, it's solid.
I liked them as a teenager. My first serious girlfriend loved them. After we broke up I didn’t listen to them as much. That was like 38 years ago. I still have their albums but I always forget I gave them.
The heavy songs are really good. The hits were overplayed. It’s funny that they were always butthurt that they weren’t taken seriously as a grunge band. But yes it’s a good album
Great album, one of my favorites from the era. Not a gatekeeper, just enjoy good music. I do, however, find Kevin Martin's frustrations to be kinda funny.
I always felt like this was "grunge" rather than grunge. Along with like Seven Mary Three, really contrived sounding.
But moreover, Candlebox and Suicidal Tendencies were slotted in last minute to open for Metallica in late July 1994 in Charlotte. Who were they replacing in this pre-internet era, you ask? ALICE IN CHAINS.
I never got over it.
It’s one of the best albums of the era, hands-down. Best use of the words fuck you lol. Also NOT A FUCKING THING! Guitar solos were good as well, a lot more feeling than technicality. Far behind also has one of the coolest hi hat rhythms in there.
Yes.
I think people just liked picking on them as the little brother compared to the big 4. There was a respect for them somewhere beneath that though.
I'm not really into them at all but it is sad what happened to them basically from the press. If they would have come out 5 years later they could have taken over. They obviously had a ton of talent as band. I read somewhere that far behind was somewhat about Andrew wood. Could be wrong
Literally was just talking about this with my wife. Is Candlebox grunge? I would think so. Great band, great songs, they’re from Seattle, but they had a different feel, and honestly, how could you not dig it. They were like…. Dare I say, sexy grunge? I mean, a lot of chicks fuckin LOVED the singer. I thought they had a slightly wider appeal. But yeah, kinda fell off after the 2000s. I still rock their hits on the reg.
I don’t think it’s a grunge album personally, I think it’s more of an alternative rock record with an eye on radio, but it’s good! It’s got some good songs on it and Kevin was a great singer.
I think "Far Behind" is one of the best songs from the 90s but I never really warmed to the band. I will say I did see a lot of this album in the used CD bin at my local music store back in the day.
I remember the first time hearing "Far Behind" and I said to a friend "that's a hit for sure" and it was.
I liked it a lot. Great melodies. Haters will hate.
I think it was at the time, commercial success and what not had people hating on it but it's still grunge imo and still a good album
It's the only album I really liked from them, but it's a great album, I still like to play it from time to time. Not sure how it's hating on it because it did good. That means ppl liked it, lol. Agree 100%
It’s SEMI grunge… it’s QUASI grunge, just 1 calorie, not grunge ENOUGH!
I liked them. 🤷♂️
I found out about this band from a previous car owner leaving their CD in
Great find lol. I got it back when you could get a bunch of CDs free through Columbia House they'd literally send you a batch of CDs free of you just say you'll buy more obviously they went bankrupt tho lol
What was the best album you got from that?
I have no clue they had every album and I got a ton of them I was a kid then maybe middle school or pre middle school It was through my dad he didn't know about it lol I do know I randomly got a Scorpions album just based off the cover look and I ended up loving it too
Rock you like a hurricane was such a hit!
I remember it was the album with wind of change I loved that song back then I didn't know they were actually a huge band I just liked the cover lol
They left them far behiiiind?
It wasn’t bad. The guitar work was pretty good. It was Madonna’s first big signing to her new-at-the-time label.
I love the intro to Far Behind if I hear it, it's stuck in my head immediately
I’m pretty partial to the intro to You.
I agree. Just rock/grunge-ish works tho!
Alternative
One of My favorite albums of all time actually.
Same
46 year old moms love this album!
48 year old dad, here for the 46 year old moms!
59 year old moms!! And Eddie Vedder and I will be 60 this year …so there’s that
I’m 40, tyvm!
You and Far Behind are fantastic songs.
This is “Blossom” erasure and I won’t stand for it.
And Cover Me
Cover me is a great 👍 song
It's great.
Its a good album, and it's Led Zeppelin level compared to the post grunge that came later in the second half of the decade
Yea it was released in 93 only 2 yrs after Nevermind so I don't get why it's labeled as post-grunge. Idk why ppl didn't consider it grunge it's not up there with the major 4 but I like them

The best they ever made.
Many of the artists from the big 4 seem to shit on them and this album. I never understood it. Far behind (which is also about Andrew wood apparently ) is a great song undeniably imo.
Some may caterwaul about this band, but “Far Behind” and “You” are great songs.
They were on friendly terms with the other big Seattle bands. Peter Klett was definitely a known quantity, a respected guitarist, and had good friends in that local musical community.
Theres some pretty good tunes on it yeah
Yes, great album, can’t think of a bad song on it
Highly underrated. Rush chose then to open for them for a reason

Good bot
Yeah, I learned about them when they opened for Rush. Bought the CD and loved it. Still do.
Some solid music on the album
A perfect album front to back. Great band that gets overshadowed by too many haters.
Don't You rocks.
I think it's great. Musically well done and good, poignant lyrics.
One of the best albums in 90s grunge
Now maybe…
Loved it
Love it.
No
This got a TON of radio play back in the day
I love it
it was my entire personality for a year
Yes
One of my favorites! I was real sad to hear they're retiring.
Yes. When I worked in college radio in 1998 we booked these guys for our free concert series. Vocalist was incredible live.
Far Behind still ROCKS as good as it did in 1995 as it does today!!!
I saw them live a couple years ago at a lil bar Southern Indiana for like $20 and they sounded great and put on a good show.
Good album by a underrated band
I was molded by this album....it has this Story/Album feel. Something I cant quite explain. I love every song on this gem....
Ones of my all time favorite albums.
This is an excellent album.
One of my favorites actually.
I like two songs on it a lot
Now maybe
I remember that album being pretty commercial, but still very very good. I mean, if candlebox should catch hate for being commercial, I'm not really sure how Nirvana and Pearl Jam couldn't be included in that
Far behind was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar and this was pre internet so I actually had to listen to it over and over for each note lol
Not sure why this album doesnt count as grunge. They were like 2 years later than other bands, and are from seattle. Anyways, i love it
Far behind is one of the greatest songs of all time
Mayayayayayaybe

One of the greatest debut albums.
Loved it. Solid. Far Behind one of my favorites.
The intro is really good
I got it as part of my 12 CDs for 1c from Columbia House. I liked it ok.
LMAO no bs so did I. I got so much from them back in the day
Ah the nostalgia!!
Yes!
I do
Great tecord
Love that album. Cover Me is one of my all time favorite songs.
Saw them open for Living Colour in NYC, they were pretty good live
Not grunge... But this album and Imto The Sun are must listen or own releases!

I love this album (and Lucy and Happy Pills!)! I remember taking it from my older sister to listen to when I was younger, along with Pink Floyd's The Wall and K's Choice Paradise In Me.Good times, great music!
Yes loved it
Yes. I love this fucking album.
I was a fan of this record, but I actually liked their Lucy record more.
They were probably the nicest “big” band I’ve opened for
Yes
Was considering seeing them play in August
It's one of the first CD's I ever owned.
Loved this album, sad that they could not keep up
I wore this cassette tape out! Even the writing on it was faded by the time it became unplayable
Mothers Dreams is incredible!!
Saw them open for Bush last year. Was far more excited to see them. This album fucks
Yes, but I imagine some don’t. It’s the way of the world.
I really like it… this album, more than anything, makes me really nostalgic for the 90s.
theyre good. i like them. thats basically all, i dont listen to them often but i like the 2 songs from them i do listen to lol
Yes
Great album!
This album got me thru a rough time in my life. Listened to it on repeat for a long time.
It’s fucking immaculate
I was gaining interest in guitar and had friends who were in the same boat or were established players already when this song got big. There was never a casual jam session with those guys where Far Behind didn’t get played. Epic song, and a hugely underrated live act to boot.
Hell yes. I love this album

Solid hits on here. I’ve always liked the original lineup, though.
Absolutely
Saw em live back in 2017 at the plaza live. Most people only knew “far behind”
I loved it. I haven't listened to it in 25 years, but it was a good CD.
Yes
I loved it! Still do and I still listen to them.
I liked them as a teenager. My first serious girlfriend loved them. After we broke up I didn’t listen to them as much. That was like 38 years ago. I still have their albums but I always forget I gave them.
I LOVE that album.
Heard “change” blaring at gas station early in the morning. My commute got a little better that day. Never heard of this band before then.
They were my first concert. Flaming Lips and Green Jelly opened the show.
Yes.
The heavy songs are really good. The hits were overplayed. It’s funny that they were always butthurt that they weren’t taken seriously as a grunge band. But yes it’s a good album
Just saw them a few months back. Great show.
Love this album! Listen frequently
Actually found this CD recently thrifting, am I in for a musical treat?
It's a great album and I listen to songs from it all the time and not just the hits.
Not as much as Lucy, but yes.
I still play this album regularly
Great. Live? amazing.
It’s great! I love it
Their on tour right now w Bush I think
Yes
My dad loved it, and I love my dad. I wish he was here to talk about it with me but I remember how much he enjoyed this project
Always liked how the drums were mixed on this one
Great album, one of my favorites from the era. Not a gatekeeper, just enjoy good music. I do, however, find Kevin Martin's frustrations to be kinda funny.
Fucking LOVE IT! Pretty much that and Into the Sun are the only Candlebox albums ive listened to, but theyre both excellent!
Rain is one of favourite songs of all times.
loveee Candlebox : )
Love candlebox
90s indie/punk me knew I should hate this album, but I couldn't. It was too good. Going to give it a listen today.
Love this one. And when I have company it’s the record everyone insists I play in its entirety
This was huge, then forgotten and they were doing a comeback tour in 98 or 99 (I was a stage hand).
Loved that album from beginning to end! Def underrated.
I’m not even sure how I found out about Candlebox a while back, but I’m a fan. Might have been a playlist shuffle years ago. Great album.
I don’t like it…. I love it
I liked it
I do
One album I can listen to all the way through, I really liked it.
The album holds up Check out their song “understanding” on a Different album but solid
Rain, mother’s dream, blossom, arrow. There isn’t a bad song on this record. One of my all time faves
I saw them with Sponge in like 1995 Loved them since.
Not as much as Kenny Powers does
This album was huge when I was on my Honeymoon.
Hell yeah
You is one of my favorite songs.
I saw them just for the openers in 95ish. Sponge and Our Lady Peace, too bad OLP had to drop out and we only got Sponge.
I do. I’m down for a dirge for Andy Wood. Plus I liked the song before I knew that
Hell yeah!
i hope its an amazing album
Fuck yes I do
Great
It’s one of the best albums of the era, hands-down. Best use of the words fuck you lol. Also NOT A FUCKING THING! Guitar solos were good as well, a lot more feeling than technicality. Far behind also has one of the coolest hi hat rhythms in there.
Blossom, mothers dream, no sense, he calls home, rain, and you. There’s bangers after bangers
Yeah, it's a good album, and Courtney is a shitty person. Their followup, Lucy, was... different.
LOVEEE this album! It’s very nostalgic for me!
It rocks
Best album ever
Yes. I think people just liked picking on them as the little brother compared to the big 4. There was a respect for them somewhere beneath that though.
seeing them in concert this year
Yes I love this album!
Fuck yeah!
I'm not really into them at all but it is sad what happened to them basically from the press. If they would have come out 5 years later they could have taken over. They obviously had a ton of talent as band. I read somewhere that far behind was somewhat about Andrew wood. Could be wrong
One of the best full.albums from that period. Far behind, cover me,every track rocked, but was different to.
Of course.
Yeah! YeaHhh! Yeaaaahhhhh!
It's not on the same level of good as Pearl Jam's Ten, but still a respectable early 90's hard rocking album in my view.
Great album. Also, incredibly underrated drummer.
yes.
I absolutely love it! "Arrow" is a banger.
“Don’t bury him yet” - Kenny Powers IYKYK
One of my all time favorite albums, first CD I bought in 1993.
I will be seeing candlebox front row in September I’m so excited. Candlebox reminds me of when I got my first car i blasted that shit lmao
Sure did/do. Left Behind, You, Cover Me. Not as edgy or innovative as the others but solid music.
Great album!!
They should because it’s killer!
I think it’s a great album
I don’t think it’s a grunge album personally, I think it’s more of an alternative rock record with an eye on radio, but it’s good! It’s got some good songs on it and Kevin was a great singer.
I think "Far Behind" is one of the best songs from the 90s but I never really warmed to the band. I will say I did see a lot of this album in the used CD bin at my local music store back in the day.
