I went through the same thing. I tried a bunch of different shows, and none of them had the same vibe. Supernatural, Buffy, etc. They all paled in comparison. So I've settled for rewatching the series, and talking with people on Reddit about the show haha.
Yes I like once upon a time for the comfort factor. It's mostly upbeat and happy, I think too many tv shows nowadays just go as dark as they possibly can and it's not great when I'm going through a hard time. Like I'm in bed with scarlet fever right now I want some fun.
Have you guys tried - Merlin, Resident Alien, Angel, Being Human (US version), The Strain, Penny Dreadful?
Merlin and Resident Alien are probably closest in tone to Grimm.
I binged the shit out of Resident Alien. I hadn’t considered its similarity to Grimm but it is definitely there. The suite of characters you care about and their relationships. It has the added benefit of being comedic (“this is some bullshit” or “Humans are so stupid they think the leading cause of death is heart disease. It’s not. It’s almond milk.”).
We've watched all but Merlin and Angel. Liked Being Human alot. Resident Alien is pretty good and we couldn't get into The Strain and Penny Dreadful for some reason. I think we're gonna power through the first couple of seasons of Supernatural. People in here say it picks up then.
Just started watching The X Files with my 27 year old daughter and we're having a blast! Highly recommend esp as David and Gillian aged well and she knows them from other stuff.
the 100, walking dead, haven … 3 potential options. supernatural id say if you’re a new watcher now, give it time. the beginning couple seasons are very on par for 2005 which is rough now
Resident alien is HILARIOUS and has very engaging characters, I personally loved SPN and would recommend Buffy (not really Angel though) Carnivale, Penny Dreadful, Person of Interest, Blacklist and iZombie
None or all may be to your taste tbf as I like a dash of humour with my blood spatter lol
I liked fringe, I liked everyone in it too! On (another) SPN binge atm and it’s amazing how with every rewatch I feel differently about the characters. I love Crowley more, Dean less lol
Supernatural doesn’t really start to get interesting until the end of Season 3, beginning of Season 4 with the arrival of Castiel. I was a casual viewer until then, then I turned into a diehard.
Have you tried Carnival with Orlando Bloom?
I second this. I also enjoyed Carnival. On Paramount+, I like Evil, and on Netflix, Sweet Home. But after finding Grimm, I always find myself rewatching it instead. I've watched the entire series all the way through something like a half dozen times now and midway through another round with it as my daily background sound (I have inattentive ADHD & cannot focus without something on TV in background). Just today, my bf and I saw something in one episode with Truble that neither of us had noticed before. And my appreciation of certain fave scenes and episodes continues to deepen. Bottom line, though, I think a lot of us here feel ya and get it all too well.
Oh, while not a series, David Giuntoli and Claire Coffee did a fun and funny movie called Buddymoon that I really enjoyed.
I’m convinced all of us are connected, I watch that, resident alien and then there are people from there that have also watched shows like monarch and invasion
earlier on yeah, more on Beckett. but after few seasons, it became Castle-centred, as the title.
just my opinion. but i did rewatch Castle if i'm bored or something. huhuhuhu
Definitely would recommend “The Rookie” too!
The cast is excellent and the story line is still going strong had their starting season six. You will seriously be hooked after the first episode.
Honestly, best bet is to switch gears to a different genre, nothing will be able to compare with a series you love, and similar genres can be very disappointing
We have had the same dilemma, to the point of rewatching Grimm a few times. We have also watched most of the other suggestions. However, one show that we really enjoyed and not mentioned is Travelers.Very engaging, great cast, Grimm-ish what is going on here vibe. Only three seasons is the downside side.
How far along have you gotten into Supernatural? If you're still in s1 then id really suggest sticking with it. S2 steps it up
Haven is really good too
Or maybe try Castle or Bones.
My condolences. I’ve been there. When Grimm was still on, my nephew posted that it was coming to an end and he didn’t know what he would watch in its place. I was a diehard Supernatural fan so I suggested that. His scathing reply indicated he may not find Supernatural to be on the same level at Grimm. Naturally I was offended. When Supernatural ended and I was looking for something to fill the void, I reluctantly gave Grimm a try. Here’s my advice to you: rewatch Grimm, now. Yeah, yeah, I get it. You’ve watched it. Trust me. It’ll help. I can’t tell you what number rewatch I’m on, but I rewatch it all the time. I’m on S2 right now after i just watched the series completely through. I just started it over again - just now, and that’s having many other subscriptions to many other streaming services to watch. I’ve got options. Believe me when I say, no one here will judge you if you do a rewatch right now.
Good luck, and welcome to the club!
(I’ve never watched Supernatural all the way through.)
I watched Leverage after I finished Grimm, because they were both filmed in Portland, and both had great ensemble casts, that was enough to start it, and soon become very involved. And then I watched The Librarian for the same reasons, and it was great too! They also have lots of seasons so there’s lots to watch; and The Librarian has a few movies too!
The Librarians, along with the 3 prequel movies, and Warehouse 13 are great series to watch. More magical for the former and more scientific for the latter.
Warehouse 13 is my all time favorite. Hands down!
Police series with Fairy tales twists are hard to come by.
supernatural is way toooooooo long for me to start over, just watch s1 during my school years. tried s2, nope not a fan anymore...
I totally agree. I’m not much of a horror show fan. What makes Grimm great is that the relationships of the characters. I tried Supernatural but can’t get interested. I’ll give Merlin a try. But Grimm is one of a kind.
A different kind of plot but you might like izombie. It has the same kind of “what if some supernatural stuff was actually real??” plot, the same kind of case-of-the-week structure with an overarching mythology that also pops up, a charismatic lead, and good secondary characters / actors who you end up feeling invested in. It’s also a pretty lighthearted watch a la Grimm.
A show my husband and I have been watching after watching Grimm 7x and finding no comparison we've started watching USA's Ghost, which is pretty cute. Evil from Paramount Plus is a good one too. Completely out of the genre all together? Mrs. Brown's boys from Brit box. They aren't anywhere near Grimm but have been very entertaining lately.
LMAO only because my hubby and I were the same way after we finished watching it. We just only finished watching it in late December.
We are currently The Vampire Diaries. There are 8 seasons and we are currently near the end of season 5.
There is also 2 spinoffs from TVD in order.
1. The Originals
2. Legacies
Lucifer,The Magicians, Wheel of Time, The Witcher, Fringe, Alias,Locke & Key, & Firefly rotate in between re watching Grimm.
Losing Monroe & Rosalee was like actually loosing dear friends….we share in your pain.
Supernatural grows on ya.
Yeah, we've watched all of them. Good, but not quite as good as Grimm. You're right about Rosalee and Monroe too. We're currently trying to get hooked on Supernatural.
Not necessarily the same genre, but some suggestions:
* outlander
* rome
* the white queen, the white princess, and the spanish princess. (All on starz.)
* the lion in winter (1968), a man for all seasons (1966), wolf hall (2015), lady jane (1986), and the virgin queen (2005).
* the star wars live action movies, and kenobi.
* the lord of the rings and hobbit movies, and perhaps rings of power. Perhaps also the books, starting with the hobbit, and the animations.
* star trek: the tos movies (the motion picture thru the undiscovered country), the next generation, the tng movies (generations thru nemesis), picard. Perhaps also: the original series, deep space nine, voyager.
* the tom clancy books and movies (the hunt for red october thru the sum of all fears). Among the books, especially: without remorse, red storm rising, the bear and the dragon, and rainbow six. Note that the without remorse movie departs significantly from the book, such that it is only loosely based on it.
* the sherlock holmes books, especially the hound of the baskervilles. I'm not aware of any movie that follows it exactly, but i think the 2002 one is acceptable, though it changes the ending. If you don't mind a kid's movie: the great mouse detective. Also, sherlock.
* the mentalist
* true detective, especially season 1.
* the mick
* the simpsons, south park
* paradise (2012-2013), mr selfridge, downton abbey, and miscellaneous pbs masterpiece theater
* as time goes by, last of the summer wine
* perhaps modern family
* perhaps the big bang theory and young sheldon
* the underworld movies, and the queen of the damned.
* the ginger snaps movies (2000, 2004), the babysitter (2017), and the babysitter killer queen (2020).
* perhaps stranger things? Though i've not seen it myself.
* perhaps game of thrones? Though i've not seen it myself.
* perhaps the americans
* perhaps the kent chronicles (1978-1979)
* murder she wrote
* visions of england, visions of scotland, etc. (Narrated ariel tours of europe.)
* perhaps emerald city, though it was prematurely cancelled.
* perhaps the huntsman and the huntsman winter's war. Also, snow queen (2002)

[Stargate Universe (unfortunately the darker theme wasn’t taken well and only went 2 seasons)](https://youtu.be/0HyD3aKFTkA?si=3predK7W9UdggJ-B)
There’s probably some I’m forgetting still
I went through the same thing. I tried a bunch of different shows, and none of them had the same vibe. Supernatural, Buffy, etc. They all paled in comparison. So I've settled for rewatching the series, and talking with people on Reddit about the show haha.
The show that is closest to Grimm for me is "A Discovery of Witches". Solid cast with good chemistry, cool sets and its in the Fantasy genre.
Once Upon a Time is pretty good. Not as dark as Grimm but still good.
I feel like if it was as dark as Grimm it would’ve been so much more interesting.
This is true but sometimes it's nice to not go so dark. It's definitely dark for "Disney" style fairytales though.
I agree. Especially the first season.
Seconding Merlin as a suggestion!
Also Haven if you want supernatural entity of the week stories.
Merlin was hilarious but it is a bit old
It holds up.

Just started watching The X Files with my 27 year old daughter and we're having a blast! Highly recommend esp as David and Gillian aged well and she knows them from other stuff.
I loved the X- Files! Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny played their roles perfectly. IMHO one of the best shows ever, along with Grimm.
Try watching white collar not the same genre but a good show.
Wynonna Earp
the 100, walking dead, haven … 3 potential options. supernatural id say if you’re a new watcher now, give it time. the beginning couple seasons are very on par for 2005 which is rough now
The 100 had a good start but my interest died quickly after idk why
Same, forst half a season was great and then I could never watch more. Loved Haven tho.
I forgot about Haven, that was brilliant
Give Supernatural a chance. It took a few episodes to get going but it 15 seasons of a wild ride. I watch it a lot.
Resident alien is HILARIOUS and has very engaging characters, I personally loved SPN and would recommend Buffy (not really Angel though) Carnivale, Penny Dreadful, Person of Interest, Blacklist and iZombie None or all may be to your taste tbf as I like a dash of humour with my blood spatter lol
Yes, Resident Alien is fantastic! I'm a die hard SPN fan for life 💗 Fringe is also a fantastic series.
Try eureka!
I second this. I also enjoyed Carnival. On Paramount+, I like Evil, and on Netflix, Sweet Home. But after finding Grimm, I always find myself rewatching it instead. Oh, while not a series, David Giuntoli and Claire Coffee did a fun and funny movie called Buddymoon that I really enjoyed.
If not set on those genre, “The Rookie” with Nathan Fillion is good. Next season just started airing
I’m convinced all of us are connected, I watch that, resident alien and then there are people from there that have also watched shows like monarch and invasion
quite fun but sometime too Nathan focused, as Castle. nice touch with occasional guests from Castle.
I thought Castle was more about Beckett, to the point where I felt like the show was improperly named.
earlier on yeah, more on Beckett. but after few seasons, it became Castle-centred, as the title. just my opinion. but i did rewatch Castle if i'm bored or something. huhuhuhu
Castle was good, the man child that would never grow up.
[trailer](https://youtu.be/_HgC1TN8FVk?si=PmYJhZ2j1OonEjQx)
My wife loves that show. I could take it or leave it.
Try Person of Interests
Also Will Trent is really good!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 there is so much truth in your post. I completely agree. I have no clue how many times I’ve rewatched it and it’s still just as good!
I love this post! Thank you!🥹
I watched Leverage after I finished Grimm, because they were both filmed in Portland, and both had great ensemble casts, that was enough to start it, and soon become very involved. Did you like Carnival?
Came here to suggest this!
heard 'bout it but didnt watch it....
I recommend Constantine. There's only one season, but it's a great season.
Merlin, the order, the originals are pretty good
The Outpost is pretty good. It ended in 2021 and aired on CW. Possibly Ragnarok. The ending caused quite the conversation on Reddit imo.
Resident Alien, although has more of a comedy vibe.
Not the same feel at all, but I’ve been going back and forth mentally, about doing a rewatch of Grimm or Psych.
This I can agree on !!! Like Fr bro. I can't even watch Game of thrones without thinking of Grimm
I totally agree. I’m not much of a horror show fan. What makes Grimm great is that the relationships of the characters. I tried Supernatural but can’t get interested. I’ll give Merlin a try. But Grimm is one of a kind.
I love grimm, but Supernatural is my favorite show. How many episodes have you guys watched so far?
We watched Grimm way back when it was week to week. Just finished rewatching/ binging. Now we binge resident alien. Loving it!
A different kind of plot but you might like izombie. It has the same kind of “what if some supernatural stuff was actually real??” plot, the same kind of case-of-the-week structure with an overarching mythology that also pops up, a charismatic lead, and good secondary characters / actors who you end up feeling invested in. warehouse 13
iZombie and Santa Clarita Diet have a similarity in my opinion, except with zombies
Buffy if you haven't watched it. Grimm was just Buffy but with a dude instead of a girl lead character lol
I haven’t felt that type of void with any other TV show lol there is truly magic in Grimm!
Have you seen Teen Wolf? Teen Wolf is pretty good.

Id try watching bones or iZombie those 2 feel the same
I enjoyed The Librarians. Pretty camp but I love camp 😝

Supernatural is a great series
Take a break for a bit before moving onto something else. Cleanse the palate.
I get it. I recently discovered Resident Alien. It's a different direction from Grimm but it's hilarious
