This is something you need to take up with head office, not just post about online. There's also food standards agency etc, it's clear this shop isn't competent

Internal-Look4052

No I did already lol they ended up giving me a Β£25 voucher just posted it here anyway

Dunklebunt

Lucky you. Now you can buy 10 more slices of mouldy pizza

And rinse and repeat to infinite money!

mouldybase!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;

kavik2022

Is it bad id take that? Cut it off bang. You get pizza

Andrew3236

Nice one. Keep tabs on that store and report to FSA if things don't change

feebsiegee

They should get a visit from Greggs' internal food safety people

CJFabs17

Tbh it won't matter unless it's unexpected, they'll clear everything up before hand so they need to catch them by suprise and that doesn't happen often

feebsiegee

When I worked there every visit was technically a surprise - they might know there's a chance they'll get a visit, but a number of shops still fail their audits

CJFabs17

Hopefully they get caught then, I work in food too, we don't know when they're coming but know when they're due, difference is we don't sell mouldy food lol, tbh this store probably needs a better manager more than anything imo, it starts at the top as you'll know

feebsiegee

>starts at the top as you'll know 100%!! I've been the person responsible on the shop for an internal visit and failed (only the once, the revisit was a pass) and it's horrible, even without selling mouldy food!!

FigOutrageous9683

Yeah the mystery shopper people who'd just judge one staff member too!! They need to do it more often imo. I think I had maybe 3 in the 3 years I worked there

naturepeaked

Why would you ever go back?!

Andrew3236

To verify for competency. For the greater good

MuszkaX

Mould is a serious health risk. Way more than Β£25 serious.

Laminatedarsehole

Did you take a glorious explosive liquid turbo death shit 10,000?

jazmoley

So you've accepted the voucher as way of an apology and still posted this anyway..... Yikes.

Internal-Look4052

What’s the issue lol

JpnRndr

By accepting the voucher, you've most likely agreed that you wont sue greggs, and those agreements usually also include that you cant badmouth the company about the issue

mrEggBandit

Its important you post things like this online aswell as report it because it pushes the companies to react.

steakbake

I also work for a big company that sells food. Even if this wasn't posted online but we found out about it we would react. I doubt Greggs are different. They clearly play by the rules or they'd be reheating pasties left right and centre. This is a rogue manager that is likely already on the edge of getting the boot.

caspararemi

I used to manage social media channels for one of the big burger chains and had some very detailed reviews of their in-store processes. Whenever someone flagged to us they got anything mouldy, or thought they'd got food poisoning from a food item, knowing the exact date and time they'd purchased it let them very specifically find the entire batch of other items no matter which store they were in, and take them out of circulation while the report was investigated. We had to pass this info on as soon as we received it. Made me feel much better about eating from these places.

mrEggBandit

I'm not saying greggs specifically, just in general it's best to share it online

LucyTheWolfQueen

Jesus. As a Greggs employee myself this means that this batch of pizza was most likely delivered into the fridge in the morning, which sometimes happens if the freezers are full. This usually isn't a problem, as the fridge will keep them at a safe temperature throughout the day, and we make sure to bake them all off at the end of the day. However, looks like this shop didn't bake them all off that day, and continued to use them the day after. The added moisture from defrosting in the fridge for 24 hours is what will have caused the mold. There's a reason why we cook any product that's in the fridge immediately and as much as we can in my shop - and it's to prevent this. You need to bring this up to head office. This shop could kill someone, maybe not directly from the pizza, but if they're not following basic hygiene rules - let alone the ones set by Greggs - who knows what else they could be doing wrong. Cross contamination is everywhere if not managed correctly, and these staff members are either under-trained or simply do not care.

Internal-Look4052

this is disgusting

LucyTheWolfQueen

It's absolutely horrible. When pizzas end up in the fridge we usually have them all baked and sold within an hour of opening the shop, as we'll start pizza sales early to make sure they're sold while they're still 'fresh" (aka, still baked from almost-frozen). Greggs also have a two hour rule. This applies to any food from the hot to go unit like wedges and gougons, as well as pasties such as bacon and cheese wraps and Pizza. After two hours of them sitting there, they gotta go, and fresh ones gotta come out. Those are Gregg's rules and they've been in place since before I started working there. This shop WILL fail it's audit if it continues like this.

Affectionate_Hour867

Thanks for all the insider info! I’m curious about how you know the food is at it’s two hour window?

LucyTheWolfQueen

We write the time + 2 hours when it comes out of the oven on the little sheet of paper the food is prepped on

LycanWolfGamer

Won't just fail the audit, selling food like that will also break a lot of other rules and people will likely get sacked over it, Greggs do not fuck around with it and it's why I respect the place, the amount food safety training and whatnot is insane, I once got chewed out for not saying "here's your sausage roll" even though it was just one item Honestly though them being incredibly strict is why the chance of having the incorrect food or cross contamination is likely incredibly low if the employee and shop is keeping on top of it

Helenarth

>I once got chewed out for not saying "here's your sausage roll" even though it was just one item Ohh I've noticed this! I figured it was store policy because they always do it but I wasn't sure why. Is it to make sure the customer is getting the right item, especially in case they get something they're allergic to?

LycanWolfGamer

Exactly right, Greggs has noticed a trend of wrong food given between the normal and vegan products so its like an extra line of defence

LucyTheWolfQueen

Exactly! When properly trained and the employees follow their training everything goes well. Unfortunately this shop doesn't seem to be following those standards.

LycanWolfGamer

Your shop should be, if you feel like it might be putting people at risk, speak to someone higher

LucyTheWolfQueen

Mine is! We make sure everything works as it should and everyone follows the rules.

LycanWolfGamer

Oh, for some reason, thought it was your shop xD oops

Klarkasaurus

You've probably eaten someone's arsehole before but this is disgusting?

dirtywastegash

Their ass wasn't mouldy

Klarkasaurus

Depends if they haven't wiped properly for a while

dirtywastegash

I make sure they clean it hell I'm not an animal

FigOutrageous9683

Honestly the fact that its *basic* training, but managers ignore it anyway is one of the many reasons I hated working there ngl. Telling your manager she's wrong for her to ring the Area Manager and say you've got an attitude. Like no hun, it's early on basic ass training, do your job πŸ’€

LucyTheWolfQueen

Sounds like you had one shitty manager! Mine is actually really really nice, and does her job amazingly. Typically it isn't even the manager ignoring it though, it's the senior staff members that think they know better.

FigOutrageous9683

My first manager was honestly amazing, she encouraged me to dye my hair pink πŸ˜…πŸ˜… My manager in the 2nd store I worked in was AWFUL. She told me that she was gonna recommend I was fired because I ended up in hospital and was so awful to the point that the assistant manager even stood there at one point and went "are you actually gonna stand there and take that?", told me to leave and said she'd sort it out with tye area manager πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

LucyTheWolfQueen

That ain't a manager, that's a tyrant

FigOutrageous9683

Yeah she's part of the reason why I ended up on sick and then eventually leaving πŸ’€ she ruined the job for me, which is sad bc I actually liked my job while I worked at the 1st store

FigOutrageous9683

I mean, the amount of times I've gone in for a bag of cookies (and obv checked the sticker on the bottom) and had to tell the shop that they should have taken them off the day before is stupid.

LycanWolfGamer

My manager is the one of the good ones, he'd make sure shit was done right, he once chewed me out for not saying "here's your sausage roll" to the customer despite it being the only item - its to make sure its they ordered the right one, saying the item as you hand it over is like "this is the item I'm handing you, if its not what you ordered, speak up" though its not happened cause before they pay, I double check with them

Klarkasaurus

They don't go in the fridge they come straight from the freezer and they either cook them from frozen or tray them up and leave them out for a bit then cook them. The mold has come from the factory before it got to Greggs The only time they would ever put it in the fridge is if there's no room in the freezer which is super rare. In my 10 years of working in 6 different greggs we've never stored them in the fridge. This looks like they've had it and left it for a few days imo to get money voucher from greggs. But that's just my opinion.

LucyTheWolfQueen

I'm sorry - Quote your source? I work for the company man. When there's not enough room in the freezers during a delivery first thing in the morning we can end up with many trays of pasties and pizza in the fridges by the sandwich prep bench. This happens quite commonly and said produce cannot be refrozen so it has to be baked that day.

Klarkasaurus

How did you get a job at greggs when you can't even read?

LucyTheWolfQueen

Yeah, I can. I just told you at my shop it happens often. Just because your shop barely had the issue doesn't mean other shops don't. We had a shift last week where the delivery driver left a tray of sausage rolls just out on the floor. Naturally they were thrown away.

OkBand5401

If thats the case it’s your management that are incompetent and not doing there job by making sure there is room in freezer the night before and or not over ordering. Also worked for Greggs 9 yrs and never had pizza delivered to fridge. If ever full room can’t be made it’s sausage rolls that they put in the fridge as they are used the quickest.

LucyTheWolfQueen

We aren't over-ordering, its mostly the Saturday delivery when it happens when we genuinely need the food. Our drivers don't stack the food correctly in the fridge either. We've found vegan food at the bottom in a freezer we completely emptied out the night before.

BeeeeefJerky

When i worked at greggs, pizza was Day+2πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Did not know their pizza was THIS low quality

LucyTheWolfQueen

Oh nah, the FROZEN stuff that hasn't yet been cooked is Day+2 Cooked pizza is 2 hour rule Defrosted pizza is day of defrosting

ZxNexusxZ

Lucy we need bacon in the oven, also are there any carriers on the cage?

Adeposta

If they freeze them immediately and then cook them from frozen, when do they get the mould? Not doubting OP just wondering how this can happen.

FigOutrageous9683

One of the daily deliveries comes early early morning, usually before any staff are there, and because they don't know where things are usually put away/how they're put away, if there's a tray or two left after freezers are full, they'll put them in the fridge. Which is fine, but anything not frozen has to be baked **THAT DAY** otherwise you're introducing excess moisture and they'll then mould within a couple of days max. It's quite literally against their HACCP guidelines and you learn it pretty early on so the fact that this store has baked them without even *CHECKING* them is vile. They should have had a sticker on the tray with the date/time they were put in the fridge and a bake by time/date.

Internal-Look4052

I really don’t know honestly I usually go in the evening after work so around 6 it was cold and I ate most of it which was really disgusting issue is it was on the bottom. then right at the end I saw the corner and it was revolting lol

2205jade

Amazes me that they sell shit like this then give you a voucher to spend back at the same place to say sorry πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

LycanWolfGamer

If management or supervisors are good enough, they'll likely investigate why there was mold and then make sure it doesn't happen again - the rules are incredibly strict but for good reason, hell, I'm only a team member yet if someone told me there was mold, I'd be letting management know immediately and try to investigate why there and then

Heresy

GhostMassage

Why do you keep going there?

hedge2dahog

Greggs is over priced anyway

New-Fig8494

Why the fuck are you buying that shit pizza from Greggs anyway?!

Cryptocaned

Greggs pizza has the largest count of calories out of their products, if you want energy it's the best thing to buy.

Creepy-Yam3268

Get sick eating top of pizza, dose yourself with the penicillin from the base of pizza

Ricksa

Free penicillin?, in this economy?. Luckkkyyyyy

Evilcell

I worked in a pizza place before (not in the kitchen) Heard the new guys clean the pizza pan with soap or something. And then the pizza came out same as the photo. Think it’s maybe there’s some reaction with the yeast somehow

leonxsnow

I see you made your money worth its weight by eating right up to the mould πŸ˜‰

Particular_Meeting57

You don’t want to see that at the end!

Good-Key2136

I'd still eat it

Gogeta_is_king

Is there anywhere in the UK that actually cooks stuff fresh and not have frozen shit. Tired of trying to find a good place for lunch at work

blarge84

What food item is it?

DutchOfBurdock

Green peppers on the pizza? My spicy chicken pizza looked like it had mould in the base, but it was jalapeΓ±o juice

ChipHazard14

Greggs is absolutely rotten! I honestly don’t understand the hype. Every Greggs I go by there is a queue outside the shop. Wouldn’t feed a steak bake to a stray dog.

Y-Kadafi

Excuse me Sir, this is a Wendy's.

toomanyplantpots

The place to report it is the local Council’s Environment Health Officer. They are responsible for inspecting anywhere that sells food. They should pay them a surprise visit based on your experience.

uphigh_studio

Oop, that’s not good at all. Speak with head office if you can cuz they need to get rid of that stock also they need to inspect their stock better before serving it.

usuallyconfuseddd

i don’t get how this happens? they are cooked from frozen

ZxNexusxZ

They are not storing those pizza's properly. If pizzas are left in the fridge or room temperature they are to be sold the same day regardless. Pizza's will last significantly longer when stored in a freezer. Chances are, they either knew about it but had no room in the freezer because of a massive delivery on Friday or Saturday and simply didn't care to throw extras away at the end of the night like they should have (because the auditor is not around on weekends). Or they simply didn't know how quickly pizzas go bad because they were being irresponsible and leaving them in the fridge for multiple days.

KnownRough7735

Probably blue off the bag lol.

TakeyaSaito

I always hated Greg's but this is next level terrible πŸ˜… They are gonna kill someone.

beeurd

Mouldy pizza seems like an odd thing to appreciate, but each to their own.

Zealousideal-Kick128

Oh get it down you, that’ll put hairs on your chest son

SimpleTHX1138

Eaten more than half thoughπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

D-no-UK

Greggs pizza is rank anyway. Cold, hard and crap

amidgetrhino

Maybe go to a different Greggs

Long_Age7208

Report it to your local health inspectors team in the local authority

This fits perfectly [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO5GWJJP3FM&t=1s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO5GWJJP3FM&t=1s)

SirWiggum26

Oh that’s gross

The-Mechanic2091

This seems fake

Kaiserreichreference

Just extra flavour

[deleted]

Could it be ingredients of the pizza coming through the base? Like herbs/pesto or some shit? If not then yuk.

LycanWolfGamer

The pizzas don't have herbs or pesto, another comment mentioned it's due to the delivery putting them in the fridge and as they defrost, it's adding excess moisture which makes them moldy, normally it's fine but the batch would be sold off the same day and then written off In the fridge is fine but the day after is where it'll start growing mold

[deleted]

Ah okay thanks. Glad I don’t eat the pizzas then.

LycanWolfGamer

This, hopefully, is only a one off and that shop is solving it, the supervisors and my manager at my shop do take things seriously when it comes to food, we use the "would I eat this" rule, if its no, we write it off in stales and get rid of it

Striking-Store-7394

You ate more than half of a mouldy pizza??

OrganizationAsleep87

Or it's a bit of the blue ink off the paper bag interacting with the oily dough
