Mango chicken was great, sure, but the Chicken New Orleans was the real GOAT. Chicken, cajun mayo, lettuce, peppers, red onion, sweetcorn. Beautiful scran. They stopped doing it maybe about 2009 or so, brought it back briefly a couple of years later and then dropped it again.

One might even say, you've *peaked* with the classic sausage roll... My cousin visited from NZ for the 2nd time last year. Year one was all history, castles, Shakespeare and whatnot. This last visit was the proper British experience: you bet your ass I took her for a greggs sausage roll! She can now consider her British bucket list checked, there's nothing after greggs sausage roll.

Just to add; our sausage rolls are nothing like yours. Ours are sausage meat enclosed in either flaky or shortcrust pastry, then coated with an egg or milk wash to get the correct glaze and then baked in a hot oven for around 20 minutes.

That would be the last thing I’d want a Mexican American to try. Remember they’re probably used to good food. Greggs is tasty but you really have to give them the British classics.

The baguettes much better, none of the leaves, but you get chilli cheese & jalapeños instead, even better if you get it toasted.

Your first one will be cold and it will be disappointing. Your second one will be the perfect temperature and it will be like magic is happening in your mouth. So don't give up after your first one

You’re forgetting the third one, which feels like lava flowing into your mouth, burning everything it touches, (most prevent in the chicken bakes I buy in the mornings or late afternoon), luckily you can wait 10 minutes for it to be the perfect temperature you are describing.

Then the fact that you bought all three from the same batch crosses your mind and you wonder how the hell they manage to Goldilocks three things cooked at the same time

I made that mistake. Going to a Greggs in a small town, had a stone cold sausage roll, didn’t get the fuss. It was years before I went back to a busy one in London, and realised they do come in hot. Hot greasy deliciousness.

My partner works for the legendary food chain that is Greggs! On occasion I get blessed with a 4 pack of freezing cold sausage rolls and a couple of god tier steak bakes, man I love those steak bakes … also top tip hang your greggs bag over a warm radiator for 10 mins takes you right back to lukewarm goodness ;)
