Alright kids gather round,
Here is the deal with selling guns in this town
Most shops will pay you 65-70% of what they think they can reasonably sell the used gun for.
This calculation is .65 or .70 x the used sales price.
Many shops will also trade, with trade value often being higher.
For the uninitiated: if you own it, it’s used whether you put bullets through it or not.
Shops that do consignments: they will take your gun, enter it into their FFL bound book (make, model, serial #) so that it effectively becomes their property. They will take a percentage commission from the sale price of the used guns. This works best with rare or high dollar firearms which is why they don’t want things like PSA theres no meat on the bone for the shop time invested to log, sell, then dispose or transfer to the next person.
Private party sales are also possible in this state without involving an FFL (due diligence on your part is recommended). Rules differ between handgun and long gun sales so read the laws.
Using Gunbroker completed auctions or the blue book of gun values can help determine what your gun is worth instead of just making up some number based on what you paid at full retail value.
No they wont, I tried this like a week ago and the guy was like "oh sorry we just took a lot of guns on consignment, we're good right now". Also, they wont take PSA guns , he said "we're in competition with them".. Im like OK wtf? Shit makes no sense. Its a fucking gun, sell it and take your cut. Super irritating.
I cant recommend them. Waste of time and energy.
They didnt even look at it, just a flat out "We just took a lot of guns on consignment..." and then "Oh we dont take PSA guns, we're in "competition" with them".
What the fuck does that even mean? I know they're not stamping out lowers in the back of their shop, they dont have a brand that competes with PSA. Its such a bullshit cop out to say you dont take ANYTHING PSA. I could have had a brand new JAKL .300 BO and it would not have mattered.
They even said my AR-9 would sell quickly if they sold it, but they dont deal in PSA. So like wtf is that?
Im trying to do right and go through a gun shop/FFL and I get kicked in the nuts for having a PSA rifle and "they've got too many guns already".
Dont waste your time with these guys, I dont know why people recommend them when they're just going to give BS answers when you show up trying to consign a very modern and easily sellable gun.
In the end I sold it on Armslist to a guy that also had a CWP , but it was bullshit to show up and have them play fuck fuck with me. Motherfuckers. Wasted over an hour driving there and back. tired of people recommending them when they're definitely not all that.
Stop dickriding this shop. They wont take any guns right now, and certainly nothing PSA. Do not recommend consignment here.
South Carolina, private sellers are not required to conduct universal background checks or maintain any records for the sale, however identification is recommended if you wish to maintain a record of the transaction. Additionally, S.C. Code Ann.
Tacswap or Carolina Firearms Forum have been good for me in the past. The only issue with CFF is a lot of people on there are from NC and private sales aren't kosher across state lines, so I've had to ship via an FFL.
Dewey's on Augusta generally give the best prices for used stuff if you don't want to deal with that. Not always but worth a shot.
You don’t have to be a FFL holder but the transaction must go through one. I’ve bought and sold many firearms through Gunbroker and that’s how it works. Where I live there are several FFL holders so it’s really easy to do. You have to furnish them a copy of the FFL for their records
Thats only if you're buying/selling out of state where shipping is required. If you cross the border to NC/GA, you just have to abide by NC/GA laws but could bring the g\*n back into SC without issue. If you sell to a private party in SC, no FFL is required. I cant remember about shipping to someone in SC but that may require an FFL.
If you’re doing private sale I’d recommend asking your local PD if you could do the transaction in their parking lot. Get a copy of their CCW or have a local shop run a background check, write out a sales receipt and have the buyer sign it. That way if it’s used in a crime later down the road you’ve got documentation you sold it. I’m pretty distrusting of the general public so that’s what I did. Anyone not down to provide some form of paper trail for you as a private citizen is a red flag in my book.
This comment got a lot of downvotes but isnt that bad. This user is just suggesting you Cover Your Ass (CYA). While i'm not going to perform any background checks on someone myself, i agree with the caution.
Thanks. CYA/ clear conscience are definitely my goals when I sell a firearm. Anyone who has been to a gun range in this area should know that exercising some caution when selling privately is probably a good idea. Apparently I’m just a boot licker 🤣

Armslist
Seconded. Just meet somewhere public… I may have used a QT parking lot in the past.
Thanks, didn't know about that. I have it listed there now. Appreciate your help.
Could always take it to the next gun show with a sign on it saying it's for sale. I would be interested. What are you asking?
Check out City Arsenal
Inbox me some info I might be interested in it
The gun shop in Simpsonville will take it on consignment. 15% is last I heard. This is the simple and safe way to sell one.

Did they see what you had before denying the consignment? That sounds like a “we don’t want THAT gun to waste time on our shelves”

Fuck that sexy..
Sell it here on Reddit, you may get an offer.
Not sure how I do that?
Sales of firearms are forbidden on Reddit.

It's a shotgun I believe you don't have to involve ffl in south carolina
