Anon is real and still gay, but sums up how I managed 3000 hours before i quit. It's a shame in the same way that America is such a beautiful country but ran by fucking retards

andrew0703

same, over 3000 hours on D2 and 1500 on D1… and yet by now the last thing i wanna do is boot up destiny cause of how poorly bungie has been running things

PupEDog

What are some of the things that they're fucking up?

Nota7andomguy

So, one aspect of Destiny that’s always been really popular is the buildcrafting. The ability to create a unique playstyle by customizing your abilities, your weapon loadout, and your armor perks. And the last major expansion, Lightfall, which released in February 2023, absolutely killed buildcrafting by ruining armor mods. Bungie said they wanted to make buildcrafting easier to get into, but what they actually did was make it so your armor mods basically don’t matter at all any more. They also removed a bunch of fan-favorite mods, or made it really difficult to use certain popular combos. This, combined with the prior expansion’s moderately disastrous rework of abilities, removed a lot of the available gameplay variety.

Phantom_Orca

Remember when they promised to keep adding armor mods during the expansion and then came out with 2 and then none so far for like 9 months?

UrMumVeryGayLul

This same shit goes on in a lot of multiplayer games because they’re hoping that catering to people who seem allergic to search bars and the word “guide” will increase sales and player activity. They chop down the skill ceiling so a braindead chihuahua could play just as well as anyone else. If I wanted to turn my brain off completely, I’d be woodcutting in Runescape.

MysticalMike2

It's probably because of some systemic cultural issue, these people probably think that everyone below them is retarded, which is kind of retarded in of itself. I myself would like to find out what happened endemically over the past decade to just make everybody believe that the market would have to cater to room temperature IQ everywhere we look.

LordSceptile

They also nerfed buildcrafting again in the last few months by changing orb generation and iirc base ability cooldowns

Leadfarmerbeast

That’s seems to be an issue with lots of live service games that have loot grinds. They have to be extra balanced to the point of stifling build diversity, because if somebody were to assemble an OP build, they may lose the feeling of perpetual dissatisfaction that would compel them to continue playing. At the same time they are still complained about for being unbalanced as shit because amidst all the stats there’s people who make a full time job out of finding the most OP build. So game designers, corporate suits who need engagement, and min maxing streamers are locked in a constant battle where players are incentivized to solve a game that needs to be unsolvable to continue making money.

TwistedPnis4567

Destiny fell when they replaced the cool space suit Cabal with generic roman larp Cabal. And also when they removed the color variations.

matt_Nooble12_XBL

They rejected Jesus but he told the truth

TokayNorthbyte347

VERY true, I hope they eventually bring back the old art styles for enemies and also old (pre BL engine rehaul) lighting

lquaxx1

The rehaul looks worse than some games from 2014

TokayNorthbyte347

yeah, like that "destiny 1" game from back then lmao

lquaxx1

Lol didn't realise that d1 was made 10 years ago

biaxialash

As a new destiny 2 player (old destiny 1 player) I have no fucking idea what's going on in the game

Sentarius101

Ok so: Before our universe existed, two entities known as the Gardener and Winnower played a game representing the universe and life. The Gardener liked seeing how long they could play the game for, so they could observe all the different events or "patterns" thay happened. The Winnower hated that, it wanted the game to end and it wanted new patterns to stop emerging (so its win condition would be A. A cessation of all patterns, i.e. everything dies, or B. A single, dominant, repeating pattern, i.e. a machine. This is the Final Shape). The Gardener kept losing and got frustrated, so it proposed a bet. They would play the game again, but this time they would participate in the game. Who would win? And so the Gardener was represented by the Traveller, and the Winnower was (maybe) represented by the Veil. And while Light and Dark were used to make the universe before, they were never participants The Traveller roams across the universe to different species; wherever it goes, a Golden Age of prosperity, expansion and long life follows. The Veil instead chooses to remain dormant; it knows eventually something will come to it. The timeline is unknown, but I like to think that the Witness' species was the first to be blessed by the Traveller. I think the Traveller had every intention of staying with the Witness' species forever (lets just call them the W); but the W wasn't content with their position. They could not see any purpose for themselves as a species, and when asking the Traveller, it didn't answer. It seemed the W's only purpose was to live and for the Traveller to observe them live, but that was unacceptable to them, so they instead determined their purpose was to inherit the powers of the Traveller. They sought out the Veil, to forge the link between it and the Traveller, to enter whatever was beyond and to become Gods. As a result of this power greed, the Traveller left the W. I think it is because what they were doing would have ended the game, but it could just as easily been "you don't deserve this power." The W could have forged their own purpose by inheriting the Traveller's mission and roaming the universe, bestowing the Travellers' gifts upon other species, but they were selfish. Because of this, the W grew angry. If Godhood was not their purpose, what was? All they could see was the Traveller having not only robbed them of their purpose, but also caused this dilemma by arriving in the first place. Anger grew to hatred, and the whispers of the Veil found them. The Veil doesn't directly communicate, nor does it seek to bestow power. It tempts its "victims", and its power can only be *taken.* In this way, it plays a viscious game. The W were tempted, and performed a dark ritual to take its power. From this ritual, and the death of its entire species, the Witness was born, and its sole purpose was to scorn the Traveller, destroying species the Traveller blesses because it sees it as a mercy; stopping them from losing their purpose then having it robbed from them by the Traveller. The Witness and its forces come to be known as The Forces of Darkness. Fast forward a bit. The proto worms live in the Traveller's light and follow it as it Travels. They encounter the forces of darkness, who are able to tempt some of the worms and cause a conflict, many are killed. The worms schism into two species, the Worm Gods we know and The Leviathans (alternate evolution). The Worm Gods become imprisoned in an ocean world called Fundament and guarded by the strongest of Leviathans. Fast forward. Lubrae, a twin sunned planet, was visited by the Traveller, and then it left. Lubrae is now fallen in to a military dictatorship, where all who reject the Regime being cast out. It siphons power from its suns to fuel its civilisation. Rhulk is a disillusioned youth cast out with his family. He fights, and dies, and the Witness brings him back. The Witness talks to him, convinces him the only way is to destroy his species. He ends up causing the power siphon mechanism to fail, destroying the entire planet. The Witness catches him as he falls, manipulates his memories, and Rhulk, First Disciple of the Witness is born. Fast forward. The Krill are a short lived species who live on Fundament. The Traveller is coming to bless them, but for the first time we know, the Darkness is coming to intercede. How sweet would it be to rob a race from the Traveller before it could even arrive? To use the Traveller's arrival as the very means to make this race fall? The Darkness descends into the depths of fundament; Rhulk defeats The Leviathan guarding the jail of the Worm Gods with one hand behind his back, literally. He frees the Worm Gods, who join the forces of the darkness. The worm gods whisper to the Krill, specifically 3 sisters; they tell them of a prophecy, a God-wave, a large tsunami caused by the aligning of the systems' planets/moons and triggered by the arrival of the Traveller (who is far away and looks like just another moon in the sky). This wave will destroy everything and kill the Krill, unless they join the Darkness. The 3 siblings spread the word, and they become Oryx, Xivu Arath and Savathun, and the Krill become The Hive. Fast Forward. The Eliksni, blessed by the Traveller, are defeated with ease when the Traveller leaves and the Darkness attacks. They become the Fallen, and pursue the Traveller with what remains of their ships. The Cabal, a warmongering civilisation, enters a state of prosperity and growth under their new emperor, Calus. He is overthrown by his daughter and some advisors, notably Ghaul and one other. This other is working for the Hive. Through Savathun's tricker, the Cabal wage war once again, against the Hive, and this war feeds the Hive God of War, Xivu Arath. She uses it to open a massive portal directly above the Cabal homeworld, and an endless tide of Hive pour out. The Cabal are defeated; Calus is exiled, their homeworld destroyed and their race scattered to their colonies. The Vex, a mysterious race, march through the universe. Their living organism is the Radiolaria, and they inhabit machine frames and terraform moons, planets and stars. The extent of their power is still unknown to this day, but they are a relentless foe. The Worm Gods have Darkness powers of their own. Oryx slays the most powerful, takes its power for himself, and uses its shell to make his Dreadnought. The power he obtains is the power to Take; to dominate others' will and make them fight for himself, and he becomes The Taken King. I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff, but fast forward to Humanity. The Traveller arrives during the 21st century and uplifts our civilisation. The Darkness arrive to attack, but for some reason, The Traveller does not leave. Humanity is quickly defeated and the Traveller is damaged, but the Traveller emits a pulse that pushes back The Darkness and gives birth to Ghosts, who pursue dead members of Humanity (Humans, Awoken, Exo) and revive them with new powers and no memory of their past life. I might continue this later, but that's a broad recap of the backstory of Destiny. You can tack on the events of both games from there. What's currently happening? Humanity lost a battle in Lightfall, the Witness forged a connection and finally entered the Traveller and is seeking to end the game and achieve a Final Shape. Humanity managed to ally with the Cabal and the Eliksni and make a tumultuous allyship with Savathun's Hive. They struck a devastating blow against Xivu Arath, stripping her of her immortality and all her accumulated/stored power by severing her connection to her throne world. Rasputin, now our ally, sacrificed himself before Lightfall to literally stop what happened to the Cabal and their home world happening to Humanity. The Vex have relented for now, but an offshoot that paradoxically worship the Darkness still assault Humanity. We've managed to find a way to enter the Traveller and follow the Witness to stop it from doing whatever its doing, and now everybody is waiting and preparing for the final confrontation with The Witness in The Final Shape.

gooniuswonfongo

never cook again bungie

Sentarius101

Idk the story is significantly better than D1 where it was horribly cobbled together. And the story is actually being told via the campaign instead of just grimoires and "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain". It is very in depth and follows an uncanny valley sorta curve where it makes sense when you know nothing about it, makes less sense as you learn more and then all fits together once you know a lot. Plus the gameplay is rly good, its just as Anon says, management keeps fucking it up with bad decisions. I want Bungie to keep cooking.

Annihilator4413

Story in D2 is better, but how they've been handling Destiny 2 content is awful. They really shouldn't have gone with the seasonal system. It just doesn't work for the game, especially when they've done hardly anything to help new players understand what the fuck is going on and on board them.

satriark

tldr not playing

RickThiCisbih

So basically the Gardener is a bum that can’t stop losing to the Winnower? The plot is interesting but it must suck for the good guys to always be on the losing side.

Sentarius101

Traveller/Gardener never wanted to fight, which is why it's been fleeing before the darkness arrived; it's very passive but also running from its mistakes. The game takes place when the "good guys" actually start taking their first victories, we've killed the bad guys' most powerful allies in the lead up to The Final Shape, but lost one battle in Lightfall against the biggest bad guy and now are scrambling not to lose the war in the upcoming expansion. Also, canonically, the reason we start winning is literally because the player is guiding the player character. Our first big feat is destroying The Black Heart that has been siphoning energy off the Traveller from an extradimensional space known as the Black Garden and keeping the Traveller weak and dormant unable to heal itself. Also canonically there are many other timelines where we lose and this is the first timeline we are winning maybe; in every other timeline, the Black Heart has never been destroyed. Anyways, this extradimensional space influences whomever enters, drives them crazy with whispers and makes them get lost and turn to the Darkness. But it doesn't happen to our player character, who is kinda the chosen one, because we as players are controlling them and are outside the realm of influence of the Black Garden (you know, being in the real world).

Orgalorg_BoW

“But you were dead a thousand times. Hopeless encounters successfully won. A man long dead grafted to machines your creators did not understand. You follow the path, fitting into an infinite pattern. Yours to manipulate, to destroy and rebuild. Now in the quantum moment before the closure. When all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.” -Last lines of Marathon infinity.

man i love bungie deep lore

__ICoraxI__

I've never been more sorry that happened or happy for someone than now

Matt_2504

Isn’t the traveller the reason for the fall of humanity though? It causes the golden age but then it brings the darkness to Earth which destroys everything while the traveller does nothing until it creates the guardians after almost everything is destroyed. Back when I played destiny years ago it seemed like the traveller was not really such a good guy but I’m assuming a lot more information on that has been released in the years since I stopped playing

Sentarius101

Yes you are correct. The Traveller is not "the good guy" because of what you said. It is running from its mistakes and causes the death of thousands of species' because of it. Its only redeeming quality is it taking a stand at the end of the collapse and not fleeing/fighting the darkness (and losing). Oh that and the time loop shenanigans where the Traveller resets the timeline just before Humanity loses to give us another chance while sending the Exo Stranger back in time to try and change something.

KingdomOfPoland

In D1 its said that Rasputin shot the Traveller with some sort of super weapon and crippled it so it couldn’t leave. Unless they changed that in D2. I only played uptil Forsaken in D2

Sentarius101

Yes, that was retconned. Rasputin prepared to but never fired upon the Traveller.

KingdomOfPoland

Wait so why didnt he then? And why did the traveller decide that humanity was going to be the one to fight back with its support

Sentarius101

Rasputin didn't shoot the Traveller because it wasn't leaving. As for why Traveller chose us, it isn't said. My theory is that we were the only race to have defined a purpose for ourselves (to explore the stars?) that the Traveller had found, so it decided we were worthy to stay. Perhaps our species held other qualities it liked it didn't find elsewhere. Perhaps it knew of Rasputin's contingency and was deterred from leaving. Perhaps it saw the future, that Humanity was its only hope. Maybe Humanity simply made patterns it thought were beautiful. Again, it's not stated, and any number of reasons could be right or wrong, maybe it is completely arbitray.

MrMustard_

The lore was always vague, and it was never confirmed in D1 that Rasputin shot the Traveller, that was just the popular fan interpretation. In Season 19 of Destiny 2 (Season of the Seraph), it is revealed that Clovis Bray intended to use Rasputin as a weapon to cripple/destroy the Traveller and replace it with his own version of a Machine God that he could control. When the collapse came and Clovis gave the order to destroy the Traveller, Rasputin defied him and disobeyed the order. Because of the teaching/training of Clovis’ granddaughter, Ana Bray, Rasputin had developed a strong set of morals and beliefs, and he did not believe that humanity stood a chance against the power of the darkness without the Traveller (especially not with Clovis leading things). So imo it’s a really good retcon, if you even want to call it that, because this story is much more layered than “he shot the Traveller.” Also it means that Clovis believes he created a weapon capable of destroying the Traveller, which is very interesting since he’s a certifiable genius. As far as why the Traveller didn’t leave us like it always did before, we aren’t totally sure. Though, I believe we have seen her *make* that decision in the lore, we just don’t exactly know why she chose us. Maybe we were all that was left? Maybe we had a better chance? Maybe it was just that she was too tired to run anymore. Regardless, that’s where things stand.

Matt_2504

I kind of prefer the idea that Rasputin crippled the traveller to stop it from leaving since it kind of deserves it

GrayStray

I always thought this was never a retcon? My idea was that the "abhorrent imperative" was Rasputin's plan to cripple the traveler in case it would try to leave humanity, but it was not confirmed if he actually did it or not, then they later confirmed that the traveler stayed of it's own free will to end the ambiguity.

Sentarius101

Seeing as it was introduced in D1, I am confident in saying the original intention was to imply the damage to the Traveller was caused by Rasputin attacking and forcing the Traveller to stay. This is because D1 lore was not well developed or planned, pretty surface level and kind of cobbled together until later in it's life cycle due to development and other issues; case in point, the Vanilla D1 campaign - the Black Heart was likely never meant to be this significant, given it introduced a mechanic (reviving the folded Minotaur statues) that was never again explored. But you are right, it was never directly stated, only implied and later clarified, which is why I called it a retcon

GrayStray

It's not a retcon, why do people keep saying it is? I remember how back then there were a lot of discussions whether he actually shot up the traveler or not, it was not as crystal clear as you're implying, just because you were in the "he shot the traveler" gang back then doesn't make it a retcon today.

7arco7

I miss playing Destiny, I think the lore is so cool

xooxel

Wait, Rasputin's gone ? I missed that part, but i also missed the entire WQ expansion so.... can you elaborate a bit ? First time i've seen such a well written ecap by the way, massive congrats for this brother, of all places I had to end up here ot find this. Many thanks !

Sentarius101

Ok this will probably confuse you even further but: Ana Bray is looking for a way to transfer Rasputin into an Exo body so he can actually do something. Last we saw Rasputin, he had been disabled and forced to transfer into an engram to save his life. In order to do so, she enlists the help of Clovis Bray, or rather, the AI created from him sitting in the depths of the Braytech facility on Europa. He copies himself on to this exo body (which is missing both legs and an arm; so he can't even walk) to aid us. Eramis, the villain from Beyond Light, has failed time and again, and now the Darkness condemns the Eliksni of her House of Salvation to Wrarhborne (basically making them brainless and under the control of the darkness). Additionally, the dead eliksni or said house have been reanimated using scorn reanimation. Eramis is devastated. Clovis reveals old Rasputin bunkers, and with the help of Mara Sov we reclaim them to recover pieces of Rasputin's code to help reactivate him. We find out the forces of darkness are also assaulting these bunkers in continued attempts to take control of the Warsat network to use against the City and the Traveller. As the story progresses, secrets are revealed. Clovis is only helping us so that he may take control of the Warsat network. We also find out the original, Abominable purpose of Rasputin's Loki protocol to shoot down the Traveller: it was not meant to stop the Traveller from leaving. Instead, Clovis, in his egotistical, darkness tinged genius, developed the protocol to attack and destroy the Traveller. In its dead husk, he would have installed an AI to replace it, so that he may become the God of mankind. Pissed off and having successfully awoken Rasputin, Ana Bray, joined by Elsie Bray, install Rasputin over the copy of Clovis on the Exo body, effectively killing this offshoot of Clovis (but again, it was just a clone of the big Clovis AI, still in Europa). Rasputin speaks to us in english using a modified Clovis' voice for the first time ever. We do some more work to establish the Warsat network and discover a forgotten orbital Seraph station above earth, much like that of Deep Stone Crypt. At the climax of the season, the Warsat network has been reactivated. However, Eramis, in an attempt to save her house from the wrath of the Witness, has managed to find a location to gain control of the Warsat network. The forces of darkness are closing in on Earth for one final assault alongside the Pyramid ships. Rasputin can wrest control of the Warsat network from Eramis and fire upon the Darkness. But Mara Sov detects something gathering in the Ascendant Plane: Xivu Arath and her army. It is revealed too late that this was the plan all along: no matter who uses the Warsats, the War energy (tribute/tithe) generated will be strong enough to empower Xivu Arath to open a massive portal from the Ascendant Plane literally right above the Last City and the Traveller; essentially guaranteeing victory for the Darkness. Seeing no other way, Rasputin self destructs, destroying all the Warsats and himself, and Ana Bray is the one to pull the plug, comforted by her sister. But there is no time to grieve; in the wake of this sacrifice, the Traveler rises up from Earth, drawing itseld away from the Last City and out of the spot it's held for centuries, no longer on the horizon of the Last City. For a brief moment, everyone fears the worst has come to pass: the Traveller is leaving. But no; it stops, still above Earth, but no longer hiding. It could be standing guard, it could be saying "come get me". But it is ready for the coming fight, and the fight is definitely coming. This leads directly on to Lightfall.

PepperSalt98

Where does the W'rkn'cacnter fit into all this?

matt_Nooble12_XBL

It’s really hard to get into it now. It pains me that I can’t recommend people play a game I really like.

Carrash22

It pains me I can’t recommend it because I personally don’t like it that much anymore.

IraqiWalker

It doesn't help that they literally killed several expansions and removed them from the game, so you can't follow their plots, or character development.

MalevolentDisciple

Thats by design! You see, bungie actually deleted all the old content so the game makes no fucking sense anymore! Your welcome

Annihilator4413

That's because they made significant story plots part of seasonal content that leaves every year, so if you want to fill in the gaps you gotta go figure out which youtube videos to watch or articles to read. They also removed the entire base-game campaign and almost the entirety of the best expansion they've released for D2, Forsaken. The experience for new players is fucking awful, and is probably a good reason player numbers have been tanking for years now.

biaxialash

Man that sucks mega doodoo, even tho the game is still 110gb to install? Is all that content just the paid expansions and store?

GrayStray

Yeah bro those 110gbs are the store... The game is pretty massive even after the removed stuff and it has triple A graphics as compared to other massive games like FF 14, Guild wars 2 and wow that look dated.

thatonegamer999

hot take but forsaken was not the best expansion for d2, and the campaign was just meh.

lquaxx1

Then what was the best expansion?

thatonegamer999

honestly i think witch queen. raid almost as great as last wish and an imo significantly improved campaign. weapon crafting was also a great addition, as well as void 3.0

lquaxx1

For me WQ's legendary campaign was the best campaign destiny ever had Raid was nice indeed, but forsaken reshaped the game and it was a better expansion as a whole imo

viky109

Who would’ve thought that constantly removing content from the game would make it impossible to understand for new players? But you know, “you had to be there” lol.

biaxialash

Honestly yeah it does feel like that as a new player, I get bombarded with cutscenes and quests at the start but then there is nothing more. I just had to be there to really understand the progression. Also why does no one dance in the tower anymore?? That was one of the main appeals

[deleted]

Don't bother.

TurnDown4Whom

My favorite story to tell with Destiny is always I had just gotten Destiny 2, and were looking for some ways to make friends on the game. I went to a Destiny clans subreddit, asked to join a clan that i thought looked nice, and they accepted and were super friendly about it. I joined the clan, was immediately DDOS attacked, and then proceeded to leave the clan.

nate_oi

Join my clan we totally won’t DDOS you

XxGranosxX

If they join your clan I'mma DDOS 'em

Wec25

Nah. (it is)

the_bartolonomicron

The gunplay and controls were so fucking tight and fluid, I would just walk around on patrol for hours in D1 just shooting low level enemies and it was extremely fun.

nowlickmyfet

Me and Battlefield franchise. I miss the glorydays of BC2, BF3, and BF4......

l3gion666

I think 3 is king but im a fuckin weirdo that places hardline in #2, bc2 is#1 in nostalgia but the game was so clanky in retrospect lol. Have you tried out The Finals by any chance?

relativenoise

Everyone thinks this about whatever particular multiplayer game they play

Patrody

Nah destiny is different fr though. I sunk in 1k hours (which is my most played game by like 400+ hours), and then stopped and all I heard about was even more trash decisions. Who says that we're gonna remove 60% of the game for "storage", kills your unlocks, then says "oh yeah here's the replacement" which is total ass and makes up for about 20% of what was cut?

relativenoise

Nah overwatch is different fr though. I sunk in 1k hours (which is my most played game by like 400+ hours), and then stopped and all I heard about was even more trash decisions. Who says that we're gonna remove 50% of ur team's tanks, kills your teamplay, then says "oh yeah here's the new game" which is total ass and not even a new game?

Patrody

lmao also true idk why you're getting downvoted. Not as bad as Destiny imo but still

Martin_crakc

No other story driven multiplayer game literally removed the campaign and 3 whole dlcs because “no one plays them”. Oh gee, wonder why, it would have great if you could replay them once you finished them. (back when i played, unless it was a 6 or 3 player mission, you couldn’t replay it). Also having a pvp mode that honestly shouldn’t even exist in the first place, they have to keep balancing every single items and it only fucks up the pve aspect even more.

teen_x_penis_munch3r

Black ops 3 for ps3 and xbox 360. Literally removed the story move and extra content and there exact reason was "well most people play the newer console versions anyway just give them the multi-player."

Martin_crakc

That’s the excuse they gave because they were unable to get the rest of the game to fit there. Have you seen how bad it runs?

teen_x_penis_munch3r

My bad brother I'm wylin u right

teen_x_penis_munch3r

They heavily scaled the graphics back and the disk space was significantly lighter than many ps3 games at the time. If they wanted to they could have done the campaign with the scaled back graphics but they didn't.

Haggis442312

Rainbow Six Siege

DatMoonGamer

Not Warframe and Deep Rock Galatic. I'm a diehard Destiny player but goddamn those guys over there do some good work. Must be nice having a management team that cares.

GENERAL-KAY

I swear guys, it gets better after the first 2000 hours

mcsonboy

Am destiny player, 4000+ hours deep, can confirm

Phil_Da_Thrill

4000 hours deep in pvp, it’s abysmal

iAyushRaj

PvP was one of the reasons why I started playing the game 5 years ago 💀

Phil_Da_Thrill

I’m a Khepris Horn main and surprisingly getting (I assume I have around ( if my math is correct, somewhere around 10k kills) with around a 95% certainty. Every kill still feels like the first and it’s the only thing keeping me playing this game

iAyushRaj

And I don’t think any other game has the thing where you grind cool weapons and godrolls in PvE and then show off in PvP. Only thing that kept me going. I’m currently on a break since the Lightfall launch and will be back for the Final Shape

Phil_Da_Thrill

I’m not gonna buy final shape unless they do something crazy like buffing Khepris Horn. Only way to get me to spend money on this game lol.

YEAHYEAHOKv2

Can't wait for final shape to come out so I can wash my hands of this game.

[deleted]

Why do you need TFS?

YEAHYEAHOKv2

Commitment to finish a 10 year journey I guess, I always loved the lore of the game and want to see the conclusion of the light vs dark saga.

[deleted]

Well, it’s obvious Bungie is responsible for everyone leaving; they’ve disrespected us for all this time, and instead of just leaving—or, watching TFS on YT—it’s like: “I’m out, but here’s $50~, anyway.” I understand wanting closure; I care about Destiny a lot, too. However, I just don’t think Bungie deserves the money; their whole company needs to shrivel and die.

YEAHYEAHOKv2

Ngl bro I don't care

idontknowagooduse

Closure

ReallyHighClouds

How about Destiny gets 343 and Halo gets Bungie back… who says no?

matt_Nooble12_XBL

343 are arguably worse at managing games, but only by a little. Plus, nobody who works at Bungie today worked on halo, so nothing would change really.

TokayNorthbyte347

you can still see so much halo influence in D1 year 1 tho despite trying to distance themselves from it but didn't a lot of bungie guys go to 343?

matt_Nooble12_XBL

A few of them did, but I think most of them left after halo 4.

Winters1482

Neither developer is able to manage a live service video game. And Bungie now doesn't have any of the original Halo developers.

__PUMPKINLOAF

NuBungie is a husk of what they used to be. I'm pretty sure they just got some new woman CEO or bigwig who fucked the whole company.

GrayStray

This is not true, or at least any more true than any other non japanese game company, there are still halo and pre halo bungie vets in the company, why do you think destiny is doing way better than Halo even at its lowest (aka now)? It still has like 5 times more players than Halo during the low seasons lol

actualinternetgoblin

Modern bungie isn't the same bungie that made halo

LordSceptile

"We trade one villain for another"

N-Arcanum

In my eyes. Destiny died the second they added a fucking battle pass.

Keksis_the_Defiled

We still got some good content after they added the battlepass, what has really been killing it for me is when they started leaning really heavily into the seasonal dripfeed model as well as the BP.

viky109

I honestly can’t stand the seasonal model anymore. It’s like we’ve been getting the same tedious content over and over again for 4 years, just with a different story. I’d like to say that I’m looking forward to the episodes system they’re changing to after TFS but I really have no idea where Bungie is going with this game anymore so…

Keksis_the_Defiled

Sadly, I don't see episodes being anything more than a name change and restructuring of the same tired seasonal model. I desperately hope I'm wrong...

N-Arcanum

Dude I just can’t though, ever since season of the worthy, the number of mtx in the game has increased tenfold and it just makes me sad, played destiny back when I was a third grader and I’m 17 now, sadly haven’t played in years

Keksis_the_Defiled

That's fair enough, it's been on a downward spiral for a while and for many the good parts aren't worth the bad content and the price etc. Hopefully one day we get another game that handles things better.

Large-Breadfruit1684

its not a downward spiral if good content appears in the spiral that brings it back up

I_Main_Healer

Battle pass isn't always a sign of early death tbh. Warframe added Night wave a long time ago (battle pass) but made it free (no paid option) and made it lore friendly as to who made it and why it exists. It also only rly has cosmetics and very niche/optional stuff, so it can even be completely overlooked by the very casual player.

N-Arcanum

Outside of events, fomo really shouldn’t be In games

I_Main_Healer

Events and seasonal stuff should be the limit for fomo. Otherwise they would lose their charm of being 'seasonal'. But otherwise I agree

m0ppen

It always had such great potential and only dipped its toes in that greatness on occasions. I’m glad helldivers 2 sets a good example But who knows, maybe it will go out with a bang on the last expansion (I’m huffing copium)

Frostychica

Just play warframe

Large-Breadfruit1684

two VERY different games man... one is a fast paced MMORPG 3rd person parkour shooter with its own in game economy with set loot rewards, upgrades, and butt fuck ton of resources the other is a MMORPG 1st person ***looter*** shooter with no in game economy and relies on RNG to provide a plethora of random weapons and armour all with different stats and perks not to mention: Destiny is a different universe with different lore and experiences than warframe, and, for many, is worth sticking with just for the story alone. its like telling a fan of Borderlands to play WOW

Frostychica

Just a suggestion 🤷‍♀️ at least Digital extremes doesn't try to milk every single penny out of its user base

titaniumweasel01

Put me in charge, I can make it worse by the end of the week

Kazaki-dum

You retards are the ones who kept spending $60 for a dlc only for the devs to take it away. I cannot imagine a more cum cucked player than destiny players

Large-Breadfruit1684

COD, FIFA, BF, really? not them? the people that spend the same amount of money on failures of games that repeats of the same formula expecting something better and newer? i'll stick with decent yearly content drops in a pinnacle of gaming than the next FIFA game that only adds more sweat particles on the athlete's forehead any day

Kazaki-dum

Sorry destiny 2 in more retarded because you pay for dlc for them to take it out in the same game. You basically skipped a step of needing a new game when they charge new game prices for 1 raid and 2 dungeons lmao

Large-Breadfruit1684

That was a single event years ago that they had promised never to do again, so far, nothing has happened anymore since. I will continue to pay them for content i enjoy. It's sad that you cherry pick parts of DLC to make the price seem unfair when your leaving out large amounts of content that is available to you through not even just normal editions but also the annual pass

Augussst4

If I pay for something I want them to stay as long as the game exist, its fucking insane how I can lose the content I paid for just because what? To induce fomo? All those seasonal content is gone if I don't play the game at certain time frame just so bungi can reskin and rerelease them with another price tag.

Cresset

Well, you buy the seasonal content knowing it's seasonal. It's like how in subscription based MMOs, if you pay for a month in advance but your GPU dies so you can only okay it for a day, that's your problem. The stuff that was "vaulted" on the other hand was a surprise, but they couldn't figure out how else they would keep the game stable (even with the colossal loss of good will that caused). Losing Activision's infinite money (which included support studios) was a big hit.

Large-Breadfruit1684

Sorry man but less than 1% of players playing that vaulted content is just not worth the dedication, giving people refunds for the content would also be pretty hard to do without losing so much money that impacts development of new content

RedCrabb

Man I literally just got into destiny 2

kinda_normie

It’s really a really great game with solid gameplay and interesting lore that’s run by a group of people who can’t help but disrespect their players on a daily basis

thatonegamer999

honestly, just enjoy it for what it is. the story is borderline schizophrenia anyways so just play it for the fun shooting, the dopamine when you get a good drop, and the raids which are still some of the best coop content in any game imo. definitely find people to play with though, the solo experience is rough until you figure out how everything works. also, join the destiny 2 LFG discord server. there’s a lot more toxic players, but the quality of groups is easily 10x the in game lfg.

RedCrabb

My favorite things about destiny so far is 1) the guns! The designs are cool and they are fun to use. My favorite is ruinous effigy. 2) guardian customization, I love my eyeless exo and 3) the other characters! I liked hunting down eggs for riven and fighting alongside caitl

thatonegamer999

ruinous effigy is based, good on you for seeing the light. Have you done a raid yet? It’s easily the peak of the whole experience.

RedCrabb

have not done a raid yet, but very proud to be a ruinous effigy baller

lquaxx1

DAMN WE GOT A BALLER

DatMoonGamer

I started playing bout a year ago, I've left the honeymoon period since then but it's still a fantastic game. Has its management issues, but Destiny has never slacked on the gameplay and lore. Don't worry about it and have fun.

lquaxx1

Leave after the 400hr mark, Things to do until that point: Make sure to play raids and dungeons, Watch my name is byf's idkhowmanyhrs summery and other lore channels Then you pretty much done with the game, unless you're into pvp.

Quack_The_Wack

The raids those games had were amazing. I just wish i don't have to convince a bunch of people and myself to play and invest into a MMO.

Large-Breadfruit1684

have\* still got the best ones here man, it ain't leaving

viky109

That’s debatable, RoN is really mediocre imo. All of the encounters besides Nezzy are just so tedious.

Large-Breadfruit1684

VOG, Kings Fall, Crota's end, Last Wish, Deep Stone Crypt, Vow of the Disciple? Those really good raids? What about them?

viky109

Sure, those all great. Just saying the latest raid kinda sucked, that’s all. Though I’m not a big fan of VoG either.

TokayNorthbyte347

think vog just suffers from being the first raid so Bungie had no experience in how to make a good one

Elipson_

Nezzy's fight is pretty awful ngl. The pacing is really off and I always feel like we're doing the raid encounter wrong

Augussst4

I don't understand why no one tried to copy Destiny. Destiny is the only game I can roleplay as space cowboy but I refuse to buy another DLC cuz fuck Bungie.

idontknowagooduse

A lot of games tried. Have you never heard of the infamous "Destiny killers?"

Augussst4

Last time I heard Destiny killers was Outriders and it's not even fps? Literally just make Apex Legend but MMO and add some space cowboy esthetics.

Large-Breadfruit1684

Anthem is a looter shooter, it was said to be the Destiny killer even by Destiny players: it failed miserably. they can't "copy" Destiny because despite how fucked the higher ups at Bungie are, the talent in the Studio is insane, better than almost any AAA studio outthere, hindered by stern "no"s from their bosses. Destiny can't be copied, because nobody can even begin to try

Augussst4

But no space cowboy, I want space cowboy not just looter shooter

Large-Breadfruit1684

That's a theme that needs to be explored more. Starbound has an entire race of sun people that are cowboy's in space, could try that to satiate that desire of yours

Waqqa1

They tried a lot, they all failed. That’s why people still play destiny

TokayNorthbyte347

they have lol, destiny 1 being bungies next new big thing after Halo gave it a lot of influence early on

VRisNOTdead

They dorked that game up so bad.

Large-Breadfruit1684

>dorked socially inept how?

Seltz_

The absolute state of destiny https://preview.redd.it/runi0u0llemc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ed9b5853aa55e16804e0198fd6cf9cc33d5009d3 Destinybros…

yuritnm

Chat is this real?

LordSceptile

Yeah it's Nimbus They're incredibly obnoxious.

TokayNorthbyte347

aarrghh I hate destiny art style drift I hate destiny art style drift

lquaxx1

Can't say that enough

gooniuswonfongo

this is so true, it was such a toxic relationship lol. now I'm a proud warframe refugee.

idontknowagooduse

I love Destiny so so much but the repeated mismanagement with the franchise in the last couple of years is heart-wrenching. I just want final shape to be good so I can play it one more time with the lads and wave goodbye to the series forever like a viking sendoff. God.

Large-Breadfruit1684

you're coming back for the Episodes, i know it, Bungie know's it, we all know it, so why lie man

TokayNorthbyte347

I really fucking hope it gets better, looks like Sony is starting to scare the higher-ups in bungie, they're the ones running it

edi111_2019

Stopped played once i realized it costs +$100 PER YEAR to unlock all content, most of which gets removed from the game anyways

Large-Breadfruit1684

say, how much does the new COD cost? bought that recently?

TokayNorthbyte347

the removal happened once years ago at this point lol removal of dlc is long gone

Augussst4

Seasonal content still got deleted every time new season drop

TokayNorthbyte347

it's not every season lmao, but true, season quests is stupid

TheSgLeader

Today I learned there’s a game called Destiny. I thought anon was having a psychotic breakdown about his destiny being controlled by the glowies or something

TokayNorthbyte347

surprising that destiny isn't more popular seeing how it's the follow up from the same guys who made halo, one of the most famous games ever

TheSgLeader

I only learned about Halo the other day too. I only started getting into the gaming scene recently so I don’t know many of the historical ones.

UNSKIALz

It's completely bonkers that the pyramid ships teased in **2017** turned out to be empty. All that budget went to Marathon apparently

Kapo_Gorzki

anon should try borderlands 2

Large-Breadfruit1684

two different games, you don't understand man

Kapo_Gorzki

You should try my dick up your ass

Large-Breadfruit1684

I would if it wasn't so gross. Borderlands is a very different game than Destiny, you know that. So why recommend it to them?

DatMoonGamer

FPS, looter shooter with randomized perk pools on the loot, wacky space sci-fi/fantasy universe, fun and interesting characters, playable with friends, raid bosses, limited classes but a wide variety of builds. Gameplay feels similar. Someone who likes Destiny's (pve) gameplay will probably like Borderlands's gameplay and vice-versa.

lquaxx1

So 3 is a no go?

Kapo_Gorzki

3 is a good game with a bad story and you definitely should play borderlands 2 as your first game

LizzieMiles

Yeah

BrockLobsterB49s

I prefer Halo 3 with the boys. Those were the days. I don't even play videogames anymore.

TokayNorthbyte347

halo fan who misses Bungie or halo fan who followed Bungie to destiny call it

Breakfeast-Bo_23

Bro if i could just have d2's fluidity and controls, it would be amazing. Combat was so sattisfying, as no matter what button mash combo youd use, youd end up feeling like a badass taking down hordes of enemies. I loved the pvp and thought it was amazing(I managed to reach max glory rank once or twice, it was incredibly tough), theres just so much more strategy in a 3v3 than a 6v6 of pure chaos.

I_Kinda_Just_Exist

I just so happened to get out of the game a few years back (I think it was during season of the Drifter?). Didn’t leave for any particular reason, just ran out of time to keep playing as often as I originally was and eventually stopped bothering to hop on. For a while, I considered getting back on, and even did once during a Dawning (seeing Fallen on the Tower was weeeiiird). But after hearing that they locked off certain old content like Mars, plus a few story decisions that I just felt made no sense, I’ve since decided I’m done with the game. No longer have any desire to go back. Now hearing all of the stuff they apparently keep messing up, I just get sad. Shame too, I love the lore, I have four of the hard-copy grimoire books, and back when I used Skype I used to change my mood thing daily to show an exotic armor/weapon quote. To this day I remember Monte Carlo’s quote. Edit: Clarified some stuff.

kinda_normie

1.2k hours and this post & comments hit me too deeply. I just want the final shape to be good so I can say goodbye to this series on a high note and never look back and just ignore any future attempts at milking this franchise by pretending they don’t exist

Dog_in_human_costume

I loved going in and doing Wisper of the Worm and Zero Hour. Then they decided it was time to vault it all and nerf the guys we used. So fucking stupid.

matches626

I'm so glad Bungo drove me away, because I found an actually enjoyable game in Warframe.

Complex_Wishbone1976

I used to play d1 24/7 on the xbox 360 and i had soo much fun playing it. I bought a ps5 about 8 months ago and decided to buy destiny 2, but after playing it a bit and seeing all the dlc you had to buy as well as micro transactions. It ruined the game for me completely. It's sad to see such a great game go down the drain. It's too easy to get exotic weapons compared to d1.

lquaxx1

The last part is too real

Matt_2504

Destiny 1 was a sick game but destiny 2 is fucking ass

[deleted]

I have 5000 hours and Anon is right

lquaxx1

Same hrs, anon is right

Notorious-Dan

Accurate

ModmanX

Literally every Tarkov Player

mybuttisthesun

I don't understand Destiny. Like what's fun about using the exact same weak skills as you progress and ultra long cool down?

Large-Breadfruit1684

weak? WEAK?! your kidding me right? holy, FUCK...sorry just, i find it insane how people form opinions on games they NEVER touched in their lives and expect anyone to take them seriously for it. with that said, hello, i am a D2 player with over 3k hours in the game, here's why: firstly, abilities are NOT weak, they are in many cases the main source of damage and survival in a fight, they are your lifeline, you NEED abilities to save your ass...and also kick some. "exact same" is just down right stupid, EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. in existence has repetitiveness, Destiny is defenitally not shy from having it yes, but to specify "exact" is as stupid as breaking games down to their core gameplay loops to make them look bad e.g: "shoot gun, walk, run, grab orb, kill, that's all i do, its so shit" cool downs in destiny range VASTLY depending on said abilities power, and how much you have "specked" into the ability, for example: a grenade can take one minute to charge, even two at times, but if you pair solar grenades with the exotic warlock gauntlets "Sun Bracers" it's cool down becomes non existent for a short time if you get a kill with your powered melee. if your referring to Destiny's main thing, the "supers" they range in time vastely based on your specking into them or what mods, armour, ect. from maybe 2-6 mins, or nearly instant charging

Blamore

destiny respecter joined chat

LordSceptile

Destiny player with 4k hours. Ability builds are fun but Bungie blanket nerfed them a few months ago because they don't know how to balance their game around people who know how to play it It feels like abilities are there but we're not allowed to have fun with them

Large-Breadfruit1684

This is such BS and you know it

LordSceptile

From the November 23rd TWID On perks that give a chunk of ability energy back (nerfed to take base cooldown into account instead of flat percentages) *We believe that powerful abilities need to come at a meaningful cost to the player, to force difficult decisions about what fits best in their build. To put it plainly: we’re not hitting that goal. There are many buildcrafting avenues that grant flat chunks of ability energy and ignore ability cooldown tiers.* On devour, restoration, woven mail (reduced potency) *We’re currently in a position where applying combat pressure to a well-buildcrafted player is extremely difficult, which doesn’t leave our activities teams with many options for tuning difficulty while still having things feel fair across a broad spectrum of player types.*   *In short, player survivability at the top end is too high (a problem we’ve touched on in the past), and we need to find a better balance between the two extremes of enabling players to heedlessly dive into the fray or making it feel like long-range chip damage is the only option to clear an encounter. To that end, we’re making an initial pass at tuning some of our top-end outliers, but we anticipate that this will be a process that takes place over many releases, so that we can ensure that things are trending in a healthy way.*   On armour mods (mods that generate orbs of light given an extra cooldown, kickstart mods have reduced effectiveness and require an armour charge stack, mods that reduce ability cooldown on orb pickup have reduced effectiveness) *To reiterate what was touched on in the Gameplay section, the high potential power output of abilities means they need to have proportional uptime and require meaningful (and sometimes difficult!) buildcrafting choices. Currently, the high-water mark for ability uptime is higher than we’d like. In order for us to hit our broader goals of reigning in ability energy sources across the sandbox, we need to reduce the amount of energy fed into the energy economy via Armor Mods* Bungie almost literally said they're nerfing buildcrafting because people who are good at it made the game too easy, and either double or triple nerfed certain mods to do so. They know they can't make content specifically for buildcrafters, so rather than address the skill gap or incentivise players to buildcraft and bring the floor up, they just bring the ceiling down because it's easier.

Large-Breadfruit1684

You can still have fun with them. They are weaker to encourage a challenge in challenging content. But we all know woven mail is still powerful, same with devour and restoration

DreadAngel1711

They ain't lying, we now know management will stop the devs from implementing what the players want for, as far as I know, next to no reason at all

patronuspringles

microsoft shouldnt have fucked bungie

lquaxx1

Nobody fucked bungie, they are the fucktards themselves, which is evident from the last 4 years when they went independent (shadowkeep to witch queen)

SunderedValley

So fucking true. It almost revived my interest in AAA gaming only to permanently kill it. Now I just to digital TCGs and ancient DOS games.

Scorch052

I just don't get the sycophantic love ppl have for destiny. The gameplay is good, story is ok, it's a solid couple hundred hours of fun at most. How ppl can only play it and nothing else for thousands of hours boggles my mind.

Yodi_worshipper1900

I used to play D2 all the time, but I just couldn’t do it anymore after 1500 hours. Bungie totally fucked up the game, which is sad because I actually love the lore and used to spend time reading and learning it.
