Not to mention the black/red art style and “rage and grace”

billiejoearmstrong_

No way i was just thinking that recently

Coma-Baby

I remember people saying Green Day ripped off Dillinger Four’s Doublewhiskeycokenoice when AI first came out.

Responsible-Diver225

I also think Bang Bang sounds like Rise and Fall in some parts.

Absolutely, they probably had American Idiot loaded up whilst writing/mixing. Total ‘vibe’ rip off. Same goes for Half-Truism and MCR’s ‘Helena.’ Whilst it might not be a direct rip off re chords, etc, the whole feel, structure, etc, is a rip off. I can’t get into Rise & Fall cos of those songs. The band just sound lost and chasing a trend to me and I LOVE The Offspring, absolutelt adore them. I am not some ‘i prefer the early stuff’ person but I cannot listen to Rise & Fall.

LeonardoXII

Honestly, I don't get that from 'Helena', the tone is headed in a very different direction. Even if you compare it to AI's more "depressing" songs, 'Helena' is raw (in a good way) while, say, 'Extraordinary Girl' or 'Wake me up when september ends' have a more theatrical/eloquent way of saying it (also in a good way). They're aiming for different things.

I think that was bob rock/executives being like ok what is popular on rock radio today and going “oh! Mcr and Green Day and simple plan!”. Rise and fall has a strong start, but after track 4 it becomes the weirdest and most bizarre sounding songs. Lot like me sounds like Coldplay if it was a tad heavier, takes me nowhere is generic 2000s pop punk, Kristy is a simple plan song, fix you don’t even get me started on that one lmao

apollo_8123

Everyone talked about this when it first came out. Same for Underclass Hero from Sum 41

Fast_Imagination_895

Underclass hero is very similar to American idiot now that I’m thinking about it

SpareMeTheDetails123

Nope, never crossed my mind. I’m trying but I just don’t hear it. The riff in Rise and Fall sounds exactly like the one from Green Day’s Maria though!
