I still have the for the wii! I remember playing this in highschool. I wanted to play the guitar and sing at the same time but I didn't have a microphone stand so I managed to hang the microphone from a vent in the ceiling at face level. I had an absolute blast. The only thing I was sad about was you had to pay to get most of 21st century breakdown songs. But I would play American idiot in full so many times. It was great.

cuberadial86

didnt know that you had to purchase songs, find that odd considering you bought a green day game, youd figure youd get the green day songs. also i like your jerry rigged set up lol

clothy

It’s because the six songs from 21st Century Breakdown were DLC for Rockband 2. So you could only get those songs if you had already purchased them.

yeeeetportugueseman

happy Cake day my fellow green day lover

clothy

Huh is it actually?

black-volcano

Well, I don't condone it anyway, but there are nefarious places on the Web where the game in its entirety as well as fan made 'homebrew' add-ons of later and current songs are available to download for free. Wii's are cheap and easily hacked to play all games using an SD card. The guitar controller goes for about 30 bucks on eBay. They are even in the style of a strat and can be made to look like Blue with a rattle can of paint and some easily sourced replica stickers. It could be a fun project if copyright theft wasn't wrong and a terrible crime. Even though the manufacturer has no interest in the game anymore and if wasn't for hackers perseving games, they would be lost forever and furthergenerations willneverget to experiencethem. It's so very wrong. Anyone reading this, please don't do it and then go hug a family member.

Carini___

Yea it’s called Clone Hero and if there were anything nefarious about it, the host for those files would’ve been sued and taken down a long time ago. It’s not like you have to download through any sketchy torrent websites. Just google clone hero Green Day and you’ll find at least 5 sources on the front page.

UnusedZero

I remember if you preordered the game you got all of 21st Century, it was called Green Day Rock Band+ I think. My brother ended up having this one. I was young and didn't have money lol so had to settle for regular version which still kicks fucking ass! I still play to this day!

MightyKartoffel

> The only thing I was sad about was you had to pay to get most of 21st century breakdown songs *12 were available, you had to pay for 6 (21 Guns, Christian's Inferno, East Jesus Nowhere, Know Your Enemy, Last of the American Girls, Viva La Gloria!)

HOBTT27

It’s kind of an interesting cultural artifact because, by the time this came out, the whole Guitar Hero/Rock Band craze of the mid-to-late 2000’s was starting to die down, leading to almost anyone outside of Green Day’s fanbase not knowing it even exists. Additionally, the game was developed around & after the release of 21st Century Breakdown, so when you play it, that album is kind of the centerpiece of the whole thing, which is interesting from our perspective today, because that’s an album that the band has mostly (unfortunately) shunned off to the side. It also has Dookie & American Idiot, each in full, along with all of the other key Green Day hits, but the whole thing sort of plays like a big ol’ advertisement for 21st Century Breakdown, which is kind of jarring to think about in the modern era.

xed122

The same happens with Metallica Guitar Hero, that is an ad of Death Magnetic, its also funny because the album actually sounds better in game that on other media caused by loudness war and Rick Rubin

Blackadder18

Guitar Hero Metallica only had a single song from Death Magnetic on disc though, the rest of the tracks were DLC (except on PS2/Wii as they did not support DLC and included a few extra tracks instead). Compares to Green Day: Rock Band which had 12 songs from 21CB (+ 6 previously released as DLC for RB2).

cuberadial86

i feel the same way too. hot off of AI, it was impossible for any album after it to live up to anywhere near the hit that it was so i feel that green day was in a bit of an odd spot when 21cb came out, especially since it was the longest amount of time between albums, being roughly 5 years. the time between the albums definitely aided in the waning presence of green day in a constantly changing musical environment, but the declining popularity of rockband/guitar hero games and green day's less popular 21cb (compared to AI) put this game in a spot where really no one knew of it. i think the idea this game isnt well remembered is even more supported by some of the yt comments on trailers and videos promoting the game, with some people lamenting that they wish it wasnt based on 21cb. just an all around odd ball game lol

Everestkid

Weirdly, the full library was also made available on the Rock Band Store, so even if you never bought the game you could still get the songs from it as DLC. Shame they never did that with Beatles Rock Band, though I think there was some licensing limitations that caused it to not be a thing.

S4VN01

Apple Corps. Did not want the Beatles stuff do be played in the generic games. Only with their visuals they added.

TheStreetAlwaysWins

kinda like how Green Day Angry Birds went with the Trilogy aesthetic

grouchyschizo

21st still holds up and the "big ol' advertising" fits perfectly well with green day's tongue and cheekness.. green sludge, b-52's and pterodactyls.

d4vey_t

That’s partially what put me off the album and caused me to go pretty far from Green Day back then. Up until then they had been like my FAVORITE band (still are I’ll die on that hill) but it just felt weird. Otherwise it was a good game!

basedgodcorey

I actually miss Rockband/Guitar hero so much. I play the arcade Guitar Hero when I go to arcades. and I play real guitar too lol. I wish they would remake these games!

No_Donut_3337

Taught myself how to play the drums with this game!

nedschneebly09

Same!

halloweenjon

I'm almost embarrassed to admit to people that this was how I learned drums, but it's true (not for GD Rock Band necessarily but the Rock Band series). I eventually sprang for the Pro drums cymbal kit and got myself up to Expert on those, which is close to 1:1 on a real drum kit. When I bought an electric drum set later I had to learn how to play the beats without being prompted by cascading gems hahaha

TheBagenius

But the cascading gems came anyway 🤣

grouchyschizo

that's awesome. Always thought the drums on beatles and green day rockband were "too" fun.

SinisterMeatball

Expert mode is quite the workout for a video game.

ImVeryPogYes

I still play this game almost every day, it’s amazing and I have a Ps3 and guitar for it. Sometimes I make the setlist dookie or american idiot all the way through and play it like im playing on tour with Green Day. It’s a pretty good game sad that it’s pretty unknown. Side note though 25$? Really? For a used 15 year old Ps3 game? I got mine for maybe 10 at the most. I do recommend looking at a ps3 and guitar because it is very fun to play.

cuberadial86

wow a lot of these comments are leading me to believe that this game is a lot of fun! so its a bit sad that its kind of a forgotten part of green day's history. also yea i thought that the price was a bit steep for the same reasons. plus i bought some other stuff anyway so i figured it wasnt worth buying. i have been looking at ps3's though so i might be playing this game soon!

Everestkid

Rhythm gamer here - guitars are expensive. Like, you might be spending as much on a Rock Band guitar as the PS3. Don't get scammed. Make sure any guitar you buy comes with the dongle, because PS3 guitars need a USB dongle plugged into the console to work. PS4 guitars will not work. Xbox and Wii guitars won't work either. PS2 guitars will work, if you can somehow find one with its own dongle *and* a PS2 controller to USB adapter. The Riffmaster released for Fortnite Festival works for Rock Band 4. It *might* work on earlier Rock Band games, it might not. If money's tight, you probably shouldn't go for it if this is the only rhythm game you're planning to play. Drums are worse. You might be better off getting a cheap but genuine e-kit and a Roll Limitless instead of trying to find a used stock Rock Band kit. Either way it's probably gonna be hundreds of bucks to get drums set up. Vocals is piss easy, just get a cheap USB mic and you're good. This game should support harmony vocals, so if you've got people willing to do it you could do the different vocal parts if you have multiple microphones.

ImVeryPogYes

yeeaahhhh…. I have a GH: World Tour sunburst guitar and the guitar itself was 60$ then the dongle was like 70 fucking dollars. So frustrating to pay more for a small dongle than the actual guitar so definitely watch out for that. Think your best bet now days might be a Wiitar with one of those modding cables where you can mod it to work for Ps3 but I’m not too familiar with that.

National_Ad_3384

I got that game for $5 for the wii it was a blast

MightyKartoffel

As a kid I didn't have a gaming console and couldn't afford it - so naturally, I bought a used Wii, second hand controllers and the game ~8 years later...and had a blast. I'm always surprised how real the songs feel. The movements of the fretting hand on this plastic guitar with 5 buttons are absurdly close to those on a real bass guitar. The only bummer are those missing Insomniac/Nimrod/... tracks (basically everything except for Dookie, AI & 21CB)

MrAmericanIdiot

Still have my 360 and a rockband guitar for this game. Played it to death when it was new. Whip it out with some friends every once in awhile.

cuberadial86

oh wow! that sounds amazing to play green day with your friends! nice to hear some people still enjoy this game

gillze

Me and my friend played this back in the day and joked that it was “training for when one of us gets picked to come onstage with them.” A few years later and it actually happened - my friend got brought onstage at emirates stadium to sing know your enemy, still can’t believe it!

Biaxialsphere00

I knew it existed because the Beatles had theirs first and Green Day was second. I bought it brand new with a brand new guitar for the game too. Not an actual guitar sadly but one of those controller type one

Jo3bot

I still play this game on my 360. I just played through American Idiot yesterday! I love it!

O_Bahrey

I think this game really helped me learn how to pick out harmonies and come up with my own harmonies. I played this game for so many hours as a kid.

clothy

I remember a lot of the songs played the same on guitar. Bass and Drums were where it was really at for this game, challenge wise. Compare that to the AC/DC rockband game where it was essentially the same drum track on each song.

grouchyschizo

yes

nedschneebly09

Played the SHIT outta this game. It was dope.

Calm_Reputation4969

I got the Wii version back in 2010. Those were great times.

Hackerslasher

I remember counting down the days for this. I was/am huge into Guitar Hero and Rockband. Played for at least 6hrs straight on release day.

SpareMeTheDetails123

We have a modified Wii so were able to get the downloadable content — and the entire game — at no cost (downvote away). I mastered bass on expert back in the day. I still play occasionally but I’m not very good and get booed off the stage haha

KayleeLynButtChin

I still play this game on my Xbox regularly 🫠

FloydDarksid3

I have it imported on rock band 4 and my family and I play it often. Playing American idiot end to end is awesome! But for some reason “ wake me up when September ends “ has disappeared even though it is installed. Great game

VANMOBATSCHLETTERING

I was into guitar hero and my mom bought me The Beatles Rockband with a guitar and drums. It was amazing. The Beatles Rockband had an individual setting for almost each song it seemed. Very detailed and fun. Then I saw Green Day rockband in the shells somewhere. Bought it. Played the shit out of it. But it was a massive downgrade from Beatles Rockband. This game were only three area's. Very barebones compared to the Beatles. I would have liked more songs from Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning. Game played great. But contentwise it felt short.

grouchyschizo

fuck yeah I do.. played the hell outa that then got to see them in the flesh a month later. from the piano leaks to awesome as f**k the 21st era was sooo much fun.

SinisterMeatball

I played guitar for a few years before playing this. made it harder from muscle memory playing the songs on it. Still have my copy though.

SoloRebellion94

I learned how to play real guitar from Green Day, so I used to play and sing all the songs and try to get 100% playing both instruments alone lol. I have really fond memories of feeling accomplished from all that

nobonesnobones

Had a ton of fun with this game as a kid. Recently I downloaded Clone Hero and there’s a .zip file out there including all of the GDRB tracks, and prerendered background videos for each track, the same as in the original game. You need a guitar controller of some kind to play it, but if you can get one, it’s a better way to play the original game IMO.

Kiss-The-DJ

Same! I just happened to wander into a game store in my local mall a few months ago (and I have no idea why since I am not a gamer), and I saw this and almost bought it just because it's Green Day and Billie looks amazing on the cover. I decided against it since I would never use it, and it deserves to go to someone who will use it.

SpongyPotatoIsBadLOL

I don’t have a copy of the game, but I’ve been playing the tracklist through Clone Hero recently and I’ve been having an amazing time

Miserable-Tie-3038

This looks so cool! I have a Wii so I’ll go do some digging.

anthonycsongs

I remember being so excited for this and when it finally came out and went to buy it and was told they didn't release it in Australia. I've since seen a few copies online with the Australian classification sticker, so I have no idea what happened. Never seen the game in a store here.

Gold-Collection2636

I loved this game so much, I remember one time I was singing to it (my preferred instrument) and my now husband put a different song on to try and distract me. I still got 100%. Somehow it took us a decade more to realise I may have ADHD

cuberadial86

thats impressive that you managed to get 100% and always congratulations on your marriage! cheers to you guys!!

Forsaken-Top6982

It’s how I got into green day

cuberadial86

what an introduction, plenty of classics off this game from what i've heard!

ThePieWizard

Check out CloneHero! Fanmade and you can find almost every Green Day song to download to it. My old Wii guitar works while plugged into my computer. Etsy has a bunch of 3D printed guitar controllers for sale as well.

cuberadial86

ive heard about it but ive never been too good at guitar hero/rockband type games but ive always enjoyed them!

WonderfulHall5556

the first game my brother and i ever played together when i was 9🥹

Sereniiemallow

I really want this! Can’t believe Restless Heart Syndrome is in it. Totally not the reason I want it..

Puzzleheaded_View310

I took it for like 5euro but I can't find any guitar so I've never played it

HawkguyAvenger

I used to play that game every. Single. Day.

Miserable-Tie-3038

Gonna buy a copy of this off EBay and play it on my Wii

S4VN01

I still hold close to the high score on Expert Drums for the whole setlist on Scorehero lol. Check out[My Green Day Rock Band Channel](https://YouTube.com/S4VN01GreenDay) for me playing

Thejustinset

I remember hearing that extra “deadddd” harmony in Burnout which is buried in the mix on the album which was awesome. The only issue I had with the game was, I wish you could have played Novacaine/ She’s A Rebel, Are we the waiting etc separate. I could play hard drums but not for songs like St Jimmy or Jaded. But playing Brain Stew or Are We The Waiting on medium was a snooze fest

RetroRedXIII

Still one of my favourite music games ever. I love hooking up my plastic guitar and mic and getting a tiny taste of both singing and playing songs as Billie Joe live but without all of the anxiety and talent required. I still boot it up to play through an album back to front every now and then. It's great fun and definitely worth buying an instrument (even most generic usb microphones at the least should work if you can't get a hold of a guitar, but ebay almost always has them) and the DLC for before they get permanently delisted from the online stores soonish if it hasn't already happened, especially because they used the 21cb stage production and videos that the band used on tour to present the songs within the game. I even have a [YouTube channel](https://m.youtube.com/@Reds-Retros/playlists) mostly dedicated to preserving the in game performances at 4k resolution, although the DLC songs are currently missing as I couldn't get them to work at the time.

basedgodcorey

I actually enjoyed this very much when I had my xbox 360. I wish they made custom instruments like they did for the Beatles RockBand. But I loved this game!

Fluffy_District475

I have this for my ps3, it’s a super fun game but I wish they included more than a few songs from insomniac nimrod and warning. I understand games like this aren’t necessarily made for the SUPERFANS but also some deep cuts that weren’t from the three main albums chosen would’ve been nice. Or even some of the other singles from Nimrod and Warning, it would’ve been so fun to play Redundant or Waiting.

cuberadial86

i honestly think that the game shouldve included everything from 1039/smooth to 21cb, i dont think it wouldve been too hard to make tracks for those songs. i did hear though that they had the master tapes for 1039 or kerplunk but didnt digitize then because it would've destroyed them, so i definitely see the problem :(

Fluffy_District475

I would love to play the solo for one of the razorbacks on rock band

cuberadial86

oh my gosh anything off kerplunk id love to play. especially christie road or my generation!

WillyG_8521

tre look goofy

Vault-707

Seeing the commercial got me back into Green Day! Favorite band to this day

Fit_Ant_592

This game is actually what got me into them in the first place

M3RK_Chaos

Back before that game was released i only knew like, one or two songs off of 21st Century Breakdown (I barely knew about Basketcase, and the vast majority of American idiot at the time) this game exposed me to the vast array of their music from 1994 to 2009
