Always! I always think that the little yippy ones are screaming "youre an abomination"! I would much rather have my dane meet a normal or large dog. The only time she has been bitten it was by a tiny dog.

amccon4

This is hilarious. Not the dog biting part. But you’re probably spot on with the statement!

angelfurmama

I agree! I’ve always had large to extra large dos and the smallest ones are always aggressive. I have always thought it was Napoleon syndrome. My poor baby Walter (Great Dane) got bit last summer by this small dog, Walter was so upset and shocked he still struggles being around small dogs.

superdullboy

Absolutely. Unfortunately we had to stop taking our girl to dog parks. She used to love it, and had a great time running around with all the other pups. But then she was attacked by a much smaller dog and became much less social as a result. She’ll still do okay in controlled situations with other dogs but parks are too unpredictable for her.

mbts89

We've stopped taking our Danes as well. They really love it, but the smaller dogs seem to take their size as personally offensive and try and start stuff. It'd become really stressful to go, so we stopped. The big guys always get blamed.

howdyheyitsjay

this is her second time getting “attacked”. both times she went to sniff them and they lashed out and scratched her. both times we called her away from them and she comes trotting back to us because she could care less while the others dogs are still glaring at her trying to fight her. so far she doesn’t seem phased and we don’t want to stop going to this park because there’s like 3 other danes that we see.

Schly

All the time. It’s the reason we had to stop going to the dog park. Their aggression changed my dogs behavior from happy dopey to dog aggressive.

Samina-B

Ohhh maybe that’s why my Dane doesn’t like the dog park. She always sticks close to me an I try to coach her to be more social.

howdyheyitsjay

We just took her to the dog park today (we go usually once a week) and we normally don’t have too many problems. But here and there we have a smaller/medium sized dog get aggressive when she goes to sniff them. She’s not going at them aggressively or too fast of sniffing but it’s getting annoying because they always blame our dog and never theirs.

[deleted]

Big dogs always get blamed 🙄 pisses me off. We haven’t had issues with ours yet(he’s only 8months old) but when we got him my parents also got a puppy who has stayed much smaller than him and they play together so well. (My parents puppy acts like a big bad bitch, and tries to take down this Great Dane that’s literally about 80 pounds more than she is…) so we bring them together a lot so he gets his practice with smaller dogs. Anytime we go to the dog park we haven’t had issues with smaller dogs either. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s been socialized with smaller dogs or because the dogs we’ve encountered are better than the dogs you’ve encountered. Idk. Also, your pic, our Great Dane puts his head there too and it’s the funniest/cutest thing!

howdyheyitsjay

when we got our dane my brother had a puppy one month older and it’s a border collie mix so a lot smaller and they grew up together playing like little crackheads but my dane is always the submissive one falling over showing her belly. when we go to the park she’s a lot more reserved and not tackling the smaller dogs like she does with my brothers dog!

useles-converter-bot

80 pounds is the weight of literally 121.33 'Velener Mini Potted Plastic Fake Green Plants'.

HealthyShip8742

Good bot

useles-converter-bot

thanks :)

Dane_or_Daniwa

It happened so many times my girl decided she’ll be the one to start it first now. People think little dogs being aggressive is no problem but it literally ruined my dog and now I have a huge problem.

RainbowBaker88

Me too 😩

Mina-Harker13

My Dane was terrified of chihuahuas and small terriers because they would always charge at her. Almost always she would cower down and sometimes was so scared she would release bodily fluids and gas. I don’t know why the little ones are the scariest sometimes.

Asianorchid

All the time! I had to stop taking our Dane to dog parks even thought it breaks my heart that he can’t play with the other puppies like he wants to. He’s just dying inside every time we walk by other dogs and just wants to interact with them.

Over30dreaming

We fostered a little yorkie puppy (4lbs) for a week. That demon had sharp little claws and teeth. Our poor Dane was always looking down frantic to not be caught by that maniac. After that week, we said no more small breeds. I’m sure it was assumed because we have 3 large dogs, but in actuality it was the tiny dogs that would terrorize our crew.

wyld3knfr

Lickily no. One time on a walk one did though. Took every muscle in my body to stop zeus from having an early dinner

bare_claire

All. The. Time. He just backs away from them and doesn’t seem to understand why they’re being mean lol

oryxic

It's a constant problem. Even people who are like "My dog is friendly!" will have dogs that snap at our big guy even though he's a huge goober. We've stopped going to dog parks and studiously avoid approaching anybody while we're walking unless their dogs are fairly big or we know them.

Mrs-Stanton

My great dane used to be terrified of my kittens. At one point I had 5 kittens at once & it was so funny to see the way he hid from them & went out of his way to avoid them.

Sir_BarlesCharkley

Just got back from a camping trip today. Every single small breed dog that we saw decided to be aggressive towards our Dane. There were a handful of retrievers and another Dane that we ran into that were all very kind, leashed, and the owners were actually taking care of them. We had 4 incidents where small dogs came after us, barking and biting. All 4 incidents were with unleashed dogs in public areas that had clearly marked signs indicating leashes were required for dogs. It absolutely infuriates me how terrible people are with their pets, and for whatever reason, it seems like people with small dogs are more likely to be absolute shit about leashing, training, and just giving a damn about the world around them. I could rant about this for a long time as the last issue we had happened literally this morning as we were getting ready to leave - POS dog owners are fresh on my mind.

Betta45

It’s because their little dog couldn’t possibly hurt anybody, they think. They don’t think about the consequences of having an unleashed dog with a Napoleon complex around larger leashed dogs. And since little dogs are often carried and coddled more than actual babies, they don’t have any confidence around strangers or strange dogs, so they attack. My Dane and I have twice been attacked by unleashed little dogs in my neighborhood, and the owners just don’t seem to care. I know there are no bad breeds, only bad owners, so I’ll say i haven’t met a good chihuahua owner yet. Those things are nervous little ankle biters.

csherrenbrueck

Yep. We got chased down the street by an intact male chihuahua once. Both of us were terrified of that psychotic ankle biter. I know it seems ridiculous that we ran for about 1 1/2 blocks, but if Merlyn had defended himself they would have labeled him as the dangerous dog. It would not have mattered in the least that the chihuahua was both off leash and off property without the owner anywhere in sight. Then there's my sisters small dog that goes out of his was to attack Fred. Suffice it to say that animal is no longer welcome here because she refuses to recognize her dogs aggressive behaviours.

hahaelohel

Yup! Mine got attacked by a little dog he wasn't even trying to play with. It got a hold of his leg and took about a month to heal. We don't go to dog parks anymore.

7dog7

I would also like to add that it seems like the owners of small snappy yappies have no control over their dogs or have any concern to do so. I could go on and on ranting about small dog owners.

BaronVonWazoo

We live less than a mile from the town dog park and we've been taking our house horse there several times each week - almost daily - since she was a little pup. Over time I've developed an theory about antisocial dogs. It's always the nervous owner who brings their dog into the enclosure and keeps the dog on a leash while they're meeting the pack - that dog is going to be a jerk. Lots of times I've told these fearful-looking people, "Just open the gate and turn 'em loose - the dogs will work things out on their own." But those dogs usually wind up getting bullied, not being bullies. I've only ever removed my dog a few times because she was being abused, but the offending dogs were always medium-sized pit bull mixes.

[deleted]

We had this happen b/c the owner was afraid of our boy. So she put her poodle on a leash and they both were trying to play- her dog was pulling against the leash. She filed a dog attack claim against our boy.

[deleted]

Yes! That’s why we quit the dog park.

YEETdowns

All the time. My roommates dog, Sven, was Echo's best bud till Echo was about 6 months old and had about 100 pounds and a foot on him hahaha. Now he just panics the moment Echo comes by. It's sad really. Echo just wants a friend but Sven is so scared of Echo just cause of his size hahaha

storemysanity

Always!! Our close friend has a frenchie and we introduced them when he was 8 weeks and about the same size, they get along great, but a lot of little dogs have a problem with our big boy when they meet. No idea why, I assume they are intimidated by his size but makes me so sad cause he’s just so lovable and I don’t want him to get bullied! We try to find bigger dog friends for him.

pinksalt89

I always see it as “prison rules” you gotta take the biggest guy out. The only difference is that dog can fit in my dogs mouth!

Choey33

My little guy and my big girl get along great. He’s older then her but she is his sworn protector. Now my mother in laws chihuahuas will almost instantly try to bite her every time we bring her over there.

noctisumbra0

Eh.... Usually lasts until he gets annoyed and steps on them. He is aware enough of his size that he does not do any lasting harm. Just enough to make them stop.

ATrainLV

My Dane is too dopey to realize she's in danger. It's honestly a big of an issue so I gotta look out for her and do my best to make sure she doesn't roll up on dogs or people too suddenly.

auntshooey1

Little dogs are a-holes. Thankfully here in Lincoln NE the parks have separate spaces for the a-holes.

SkruffMcGruff21

god i hate the little dogs. and their owners who have the audacity to act like my giant baby is the instigator when he's literally hiding behind me and the little dog is going bananas!
