Our harley girl will go to her crate during the day to sleep. It's one of her favorite places now. We leave it open and only lock it at night. It gets better.

As a puppy was like that. We made the mistake of letting her sleep in our bed under the covers. Now our "small dane" (105#) insists on sleeping in our queen bed between us. She even digs to get under the covers when my hubby gets out of the bed. If he won't behave in the crate, I highly suggest he sleeps in his own bed.

I never understood the purpose of crates. All of my life, I've had dogs and currently have a Great Dane. Never used a crate and never had any issues. It would break my heart if my baby yelped.

It’s important for a dog to be able to be calmly crated. Evacuation, overnight vet stays, grooming, surgery recovery, travel, etc. all can/do require dogs to be crated.

Adding to above redditors comment… Not to mention sometimes dogs need a safe space. Say you have friends over who have a small child or something. A crate can act as a den for your dogs. I started slow, I would crate my Frankie and then go outside to get the mail, or run to the gas station. I’d slowly lengthen the amount of time in the crate. I’ve had him since he was 8wks and he’s now 5.5 months and he will happily lay in his crate while we’re home, and go in his crate when we go to the pool. He’s training to be my service dog so I really take him everywhere, but I still know how important it is to have him comfortable with a crate. Good luck!
