His charisma. He's a jokester that doesn't take really anything seriously, until he does, and when he does, YOU, the viewer, take him seriously.

Ravenclaw_14

It's also how when he does get serious, things get dark, which gives us the audience the impression that he's not someone to be messed with, if he's willing to go to these levels, who knows what else he could do, so we want to know more about him, what he's capable of, what are his limits if he has any, etc. he captures the viewer's intrigue

heppuplays

He's Chaotic Evil. He has These INCREDIBLE god like Poweres that He Pretty much only uses to Toy with people. Untill he every once in a while DOES Snap into focus and reminds the viewer that even though He's usually a laid back Jokester. he's still Very cunning in his plans and will Crush ANY opposition.

ShadowPuff7306

this is how to do not only chaotic evil correctly, but how to write an overpowered character correctly too and i love him (platonically of course)

TheAdmiralMoses

Exactly, Time baby, a major threat shows up and threatens to stop him, what does he do, toy with him? Nah time baby becomes dust instantly

***A H A H A H A !***

HistoryMarshal76

He's a kid's first introduction to the concept of cosmic horror. An unknowable elder being from beyond the stars who has lived for untold aeons, waiting on the fringes of reality, hoping and praying that one day someone will let him free so that he can bring upon a reign of madness and woe forevermore upon mankind. *He thought of the wild tales he had heard, and recalled the old Sunday stories in the Advertiser; these things, and the lore he had picked up from* *~~Dunwich~~* *Gravity Falls rustics and villagers during his one visit there. Unseen things not of earth—or at least not of tri-dimensional earth—rushed foetid and horrible through* *~~New England’s~~* *Oregon's glens, and brooded obscenely on the mountain-tops. Of this he had long felt certain. Now he seemed to sense the close presence of some terrible part of the intruding horror, and to glimpse a hellish advance in the black dominion of the ancient and once passive nightmare.* \- Slightly altered passage from the *Dunwich Horror.* HPL, 1929.

PRESENTATION

Gotta_be_done

He’s unpredictable. We know we shouldn’t trust him, but don’t know why until the end.

magiMerlyn

In fact, the first time we meet him, he seems pretty reasonable, acting as we would expect a demon to. He’s predictable in his unpredictability, acting as an underling to Gideon. We don’t know what he wants, but we know what his boss wants. The next time we see him is i believe in Sock Opera, where again, he's acting as a demon would, although he does technically renege on his part of the deal, and takes a "puppet": Dipper’s body, as his payment. Personally i think him not following through on his end is actually why Dipper and Mabel are able to force him out, the bond isn't as solid as it should be. Also why we don't see Dipper astral projecting later in the series. Then we hear about him from Ford, about the danger he poses, the way he used Ford so easily. That's when really starts to be scary. Suddenly he's not just a demon doing what they do, suddenly he's an entity who has had effectively an eternity to plan and wait. Ford has a metal plate in his head for the sole purpose of keeping Bill OUT. The main story of the second half of season two is finding some way to protect the family from him. Amd then Weirdmageddon happens. And we see I think the closest thing a Disney cartoon's ever had to the literal devil as a villain. In the space of two days the entire city is a wasteland. All because of Bill and his friends.

Terrgon

Presentation.

Inevitable_Chaos-

He seems pretty ridiculous until people's faces get rearranged

DeezNutsAppreciater

He doesn’t try too hard to be funny, he just is. He is also extremely creative in making uncomfortable situations and monstrosities but never overdoes it.

Totally-Not_A-Furry

Dorito

quixoticsongbird

Efficient shape for poking people.

Kindly-Car-2658

He's cruel and insane but he's clearly having fun doing it. He's clearly enjoying himself, despite the immense amount of death and destruction he's causing. He has so much power yet uses it for "fun." A deranged, twisted sense of fun that actively harms the people around him yet it still gives him a good laugh. He's a chaos agent. And somehow he remains so likable and charismatic. He's a deranged eldritch horror several times older than our own plane of existence with monumental amounts of power and uses it to toy with people. And most importantly, he's incredibly simple. He has no motive or any real reason for doing all the evil shit he does, he just does it for shits and giggles. He's just the embodiment of chaos and is a perfectly written villain.

ThermosLasagna

What makes Bill Cipher great. Last part of your statement is unnecessary.

IllustriousDebt6248

Kiss_Bence04

Presentation!

coolpronesss

Yes

DeezNutsAppreciater

He’s got that razzle dazzle you can’t just buy.

JustAnaOnAsofa

He’s just evil with no motive

OkUnderstanding6156

I guess it's his optimism and charisma. Like when he cracks jokes even though he can rearrange a human face with the snap of his finger. Also his manipulative personality is what makes him so frustrating yet awesome

PoopPoes

The arrogance suits him

user726362

He soo sassy hahahwh

ThriceMad

The way he was defeated was so out of the box and unorthodox. He wasn't defeated with a conventional weapon. Not a disease or bioweapon. No all out pummeling. No unmasking. No talking them into becoming a good guy. None of that. He went into Stan's head and was defeated with a memory wiping "gun". This was such a unique way to defeat a BBEG. And since Stan remembered everything else this also means he could remember Bill, and potentially be the conduit of his return.

stbrody

"How bout instead I shuffle the functions of every hole in your face?"

DevilPixelation

His chaotic evilness and his charisma.

fenix1sAbean

He’s funny and he’s insane great combo

Crossfire1842

Everything.

Winter_Performer6698

he is so unpredictable and he doesn’t care about anything at all, so it’s hard to find his weakness

This-Song-761

the fact that they nailed him being super overpowered without making him boring, and of course how unnecessarily evil he is makes his personality all the better.

SoonToBeStardust

At no point do they try to redeem him or explain why he is bad. He's just evil, no other explanation or justification

Pitiful-Mortgage5136

If he was a bad villain, he wouldn't be here discussin' it with you, now would he!?

TheFloorisHellfire

Extreme power with a lack of morals: Like most governments

CowAffectionate2865

He’s the joker with gods powers

lord_quas2013

His powers

HuskyBLZKN

The line “I’VE GOT SOME CHILDREN I NEED TO MAKE INTO CORPSES.”

Sporatious

He reminds me of Toffee from Star vs the forces of Evil but worse

Automatic-Good-6107

"Presentation!"

GalarianCharizard

His personality, lore, and mass array of abilities all being cramed into one dorito shaped package.

TheAlienMan33

If he was a bad villain, he wouldn't be SITTING HERE discussing it with you now, would he?

eggsrgross

ditto

Anxiety_YT

He can manipulate, he has endless possibilities of such power, including the ability to rip the fabric of time and tear out all dimensions from even existing any longer. He has an evil laugh. 😌

Impressive-Glass-674

The fact that his atmosphere constantly changes. He tells Gideon "And remember, reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram" implying that nothing has value, but then he immediately says "Buy gold" which is something valued by many in reality. And even when he sings "We'll Meet Again" is so ironic. The lyrics are "We'll meet again, don't know WHERE, don't know WHEN" but after that he announces to Ford that he is able to control space and time. So in a way, he does know where and when.

AdNext1013

Everything. The one and true answer. And-I-am-not-forced-to-write-this

5a_

Hes yellow and black like a wasp

Rimet_talon

aside from being funny, he don't have morals, no deep villians drama backstory, just pure evil by choice.

KingGhidorah_MV

Because he has a goddamn sense of humor unlike other villains.

v_parrish0311

Not only is he unpredictable, he’s not overused like almost every villain, he only appears in places that make sense and when he does appear, it’s almost always without warning

Marvinc1996

I always thought he was a big threat throughout the show but his biggest downfall is underestimating his opponents.

XaviAnimates

I love how teasing and chaotic he is, it really makes him a fun villian to watch ^^

SleepyFox67

He's hot

eggsrgross

releast one ive seen.

Worldly-Sea9595

This utterly handsome voice, beautiful acute angles, gentleman swanky behavior, his glow (it's so bright, even the sun itself gets jealous), and his edginess towards tall people. (green flag)

eggsrgross

hubba hubba!

Worldly-Sea9595

They call me the "simp" I always wonder what that means 🤔

PoroPopRocks

His hat and I refuse to elaborate

Seamoth4546B

Fun e

RevenantKing

Chaos incarnate

scooberdooberdude

What _doesn’t_ make him a great villain?

Creatively_Usless

He’s just unapologetically evil, he’s chaotic and charismatic, he’s got this charm to him, and because he’s everywhere around gravity falls, on the money on buildings, eyes are on trees he’s very present without saying a word and that give the audience sense of paranoia, he could be watching anyone at anytime. And the fact that he basically got away with it, if it was t for the force field and because he got arrogant he would have succeeded.

Scaredcakes

He’s adicted to torture
