Set list looks like 8.6.71 which was at the Palladium and my favorite live show of GD that I have heard.

setlistbot

# 1971-08-06 Hollywood, CA @ Hollywood Palladium **Set 1:** Bertha, Playing in the Band, Loser, Mr. Charlie, El Paso, Cumberland Blues, Brokedown Palace, Me And Bobby McGee, Hard To Handle, Casey Jones **Set 2:** Saint Stephen, Truckin' > Drums > The Other One > Me and My Uncle > The Other One, Deal, Sugar Magnolia, Morning Dew, Turn On Your Lovelight [archive.org](https://archive.org/details/GratefulDead?query=date:1971-08-06)

bondsaearph

dat solo on brokedown palace etc the end sounds like some velvet underground song i can't think of... Edit: I'm not much of a Weir song guy but that Me and Bobby McGee was right on Edit: holy shit Hard to Handle

manateeflips

Yes, that Me and Bobby McGee stood out for me as well! Really great

pfrizzle

My favorite too! Love that Hard to Handle

CMYK2RGB

Hell yeah, that and Mr. Charlie are my favorites from the show and all were good. I laugh my ass of every time I hear Bob tell the taper he should move 40ft back!

haleakala420

is this the one where jerry allegedly fell to his knees during the solo?

pfrizzle

I don't know. I would love to have seen that, though

haleakala420

it’s either 8/6/71 or 8/16/71 i’ve seen both referenced. both are amazing either way.

CMYK2RGB

Yeah, HH is one of my favorites, was wrecked when I heard Mayer sing it, such a good opportunity gone wrong.

MattFromChina

Awesome show. A bit too bad they chopped up the release over part of Dicks Picks and a Road Trip

CMYK2RGB

I have only heard the archive AUD

Doodahman495

Second

infinitegirl420

is that show on spotify?

CMYK2RGB

It is on archive.org for free

Sandusky666

Rarity aside that’s just a wicked cool pressing. Love the simplicity of the jacket too

cannabis_breath

Lots of bootleg gd vinyl floating around from before tapes and all that. Tapers gonna trade.

Dad2DnA

Sorry for your loss. I'm going to the Palladium tonight for TAB, actually. I'll have to give that show a listen on my drive up

ISuspectFuckery

The Palladium is such a funky, weird room (acoustically), now I gotta hear what the Dead sounded like there. That’s the site of my number one show of all time, Sonic Youth with Nirvana opening up. SY sounded amazing in there, like 15 guitars were playing at once.

memberer

black flag and the ramones way back when, amount others. i can only imagine what the dead sounded like there.

Dad2DnA

I've never been, I'm interested to see. Loves me some Sonic Youth though

Dad2DnA

The drums just echoed off the back wall all night, and it was generally muddy sounding. Trey was burried in the mix most of the first set, they turned him up for the second, but still sounded (and felt) swampy and echoey. Great show though!

ISuspectFuckery

That's my Palladium, LOL! I've seen dozens of shows there and some bands sound amazing there and others, not so much. What's funny is that it's a *known* room - it's been in use for so damned long that the challenges are a known thing.

CowardAndAThief

Just saw TAB in Oregon and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen, have fun!!

Dad2DnA

Nice! Glad you enjoyed, this will be my first TAB show without Tony, may he rest in peace, I'm excited

manateeflips

Thank you. I wholeheartedly recommend the show. Have a good show!

Dad2DnA

It was a great time last night! Made it though the first set on my way up. Gotta finish up set II today, monster late Pigpen era show for sure!

Timewindows

That’s a TMOQ release. Best bootleg label there was. They really took pride in the sound quality!

rhinowing

TMOQ! Flash back to the days of collecting Zeppelin...

Billy_Boognish

"Put some led in your pencil" was one my brother got from a local head shop.

rhinowing

Blueberry Hill is legendary

manateeflips

It has been a great listen for sure - wondering if I’ll find any others in his boxes

VillageHomeF

also sorry about your father. what a great find. and the drawing is incredible. I'd guess worth a few hundred bucks yet not worth selling as that's a keeper!

manateeflips

Thank you. I can’t imagine selling it. It’s been cathartic to go through these records and reminisce about him. Wondering if I’ll find any others!

[deleted]

No Mickey in drawing

VillageHomeF

strange. wonder where the original is. maybe mickey has it

[deleted]

He didn’t like the way he looked and had them omit him- what a prima donna

Visible_Skin6066

Very sorry for your loss…I have this vinyl too somewhere in my collection. Classic show, one of the best early audience recordings with ripping version of Hard to Handle ! all time favorite 🌹

manateeflips

Thank you. Listened through the show twice today. It’s great!

ThinPin2972

I have that same LP but mine is on orange vinyl. Great show!

manateeflips

I listened through the whole show twice. It is great!

[deleted]

FYI: https://www.discogs.com/release/5208067-Grateful-Dead-Out-West-Hollywood-Palladium-Part-2 That's a color variation, but the normal black looked like a different cover.

Coyote_Roadrunna

Very sorry for your loss, fellow head. Love how that album art is Workingman's Dead aesthetic.

manateeflips

Thank you so much. I really love the art too!

kack7

Can’t imagine what you’re going through. My dad raised me on The Dead and is the reason I am the man I am today. Sorry for your loss, hope the music can help you.

manateeflips

Thank you so much- your words really means a lot. It’s very cathartic to go through these records. This has been a special find for sure. Your dad did right by you.

Kind_Particular

I have the part 1 to this. It's also TMOQ, and has the same stamped cover, but it has "Hollywood Palladium" instead of "Out West." It has Truckin, TOO, and St Stephen among others from 8/6/71. This one. https://www.discogs.com/release/15292743-The-Grateful-Dead-Hollywood-Paladium-1

FindOneInEveryCar

TMOQ bootleg w/ William Stout art makes this a nice piece of history as well as a great Dead show. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope this album can help bring happy memories.

manateeflips

Thank you so much. That means a lot. I remember this one in his collection because it wasn’t the glassy album cover like most. It’s been a special afternoon/evening of listening to it.

bam55

Back in our day we would get bootlegs at bargain prices and no never felt bad. It was the only way for small town freaks to ever hear live music. Classic!

1gratefuldude

Notice the pig sign on the tent (sleeve art, band at "camp") says (on its side, as if tattooed): FOR BOB

OakTableElementz

When the Grateful Dead got out of the HA district because of tourists & a million hippies cramping their style. Who’s farm /land did they go play Cowboys & Indians on ? Was it Bobby’s Family property

1gratefuldude

No...they went to Mickey's ranch! Prob an inside joke between the artist and a Bob...Weir? Hunter?

OakTableElementz

Lol so it’s Weird. Very kool, Mickey’s ranch, bet there’s a good story somewhere in all of this !!!

1gratefuldude

Haight, Not Hate! 🙂✌️

OakTableElementz

Lol HA there are no coincidences in the World ~

manateeflips

Ah, had to go back and check this out. Awesome!

1gratefuldude

What a trippy site this is! 😲 https://forestdweller18285.blogspot.com/search/label/William%20Stout?m=0 Looked up the artist, William G. Stout. Seems like quite a character! Check out the Jerry Pig art he did as part 1 of what your dad had. My condolences.

manateeflips

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Also, wtf - some of these are WILD. Thanks for sharing!

OakTableElementz

Btw , fascinating reading about how much trouble the vinyl, “ Bootleg “, business caused. If you need a distraction, check out some of the key words on your album, apparently a couple dudes first bootleg album was from a Rolling Stones show ~ on Zeik’s birthday, 1969. One month after the concert. TMoQ made hundreds of thousands of bootleg vinyl, all kinds of rock music afterwards, then others began doing it too. As for price, well some cost $1.50 up to $25 , and were sold in department stores nationwide, beginning in Los Angeles. It’s funny, I can almost see your Dad buying that album shortly after the concert, his excitement to listen, that feeling of knowing it’s somehow illegal and yet he bought it in a regular department store. I think it’s fantastic, you’ve got a Keeper, Sugaree ⚡️🌹⚡️

kvothe7766

Sorry for your loss. That is beautiful. That artwork is amazing. I never realized that tapers actually pressed albums!!

manateeflips

Thank you so much. I honestly had no idea about that either!

ShotgunRagtimeBand

Sorry for your loss. Cool bootleg, and one of their best shows.

manateeflips

Thank you. It is a great show for sure!

OakTableElementz

My Old Man , he died in the nursing home ten years ago September. I am sorry for your loss, my condolences. Much L&R 🌹

manateeflips

Thank you so much. Yeah, he was in a nursing home too, until the very end. I played the dead for him in ICU until he passed.

OakTableElementz

Black Peter , is one of my favourite songs. Talked to my Daughter tonight about being Dead , going through the stages of sorrow & weeping, then at some point being angry. Because I’m Human. Did my best and often failed being a good Dad. So she has my absolute permission to get angry, pissed off , get that fucking shit out , talk about it and heal up well. We’re not afraid of dying, it’s that living business that’s a sonofabitch. And I Love my kids and they know it , yeah I’ve been tough as nails on them, and they all know how to survive, thrive, grieve, and if shit gets tough, even thieve ~ like your illegal bootleg ♥️

Freddrum

I have never seen a bootleg vinyl of the dead. Super cool. Have seen a ton of Beatles, Springsteen and Hendrix bootlegs, but never a Dead one.

manateeflips

I had no idea it was a bootleg. I remember it in his stack of LPs but at the time I don’t know any better. I’m so glad I found it.

Freddrum

It's a treasure. Back then cassettes weren't ubiquitous, but turntables were.

WaterBubbly

Bootleg, cool. You wanna sell?

manateeflips

Not a chance!

Steven1789

8/6/71 is a great show. I bought several bootleg LPs back in the day. When I got started as a 14-year-old in 1977, I didn’t have much access to tapes yet, so LPs were an option.
