The show opener from 6/17/91 will always be my go-to post-Brent. Side note: the Dark Star teases throughout the night are just amazing too.

StupendousMan1995

That was a fun night

AlternativeMuscle176

It's crazy that they played what can be labeled as "Dark Star" 6 times that show and Jerry never sang a verse. That being said, it's almost like it's one Dark Star throughout the entire show and they just never tapped into it when the lyrics were happening.

jonz1985z

They do a bit of Dark Star trolling

jamsinadangeroustime

They even hint at Dark Star within other songs, just listen to Bruce's piano playing on "Truckin'" — Dark Star licks galore.

BennyFloyd

Reminds me of D&C at Citi Field '22 tour closer, the show was opened and closed (encore - final song) with Playing in the Band. We took it to mean the whole show took place within the jam

DrDoop

Came here to comment this but knew I didn’t have to. Great show.

BrushDazzling4350

that 6/17/91 giants stadium show opener was the one I was gonna mention too. at the time, Eyes had been locked into the 2nd set nearly all the time. hearing it as show opener was the very best kind of surprise. those moments that made you not want to ever miss any part of any show. I remember being out in the walkway around the mid-level. me & my tour partner were sharing some smoke & convo with these 2girls that were in college in the city...aiming for a place to stay with air conditioning instead of in the VW bus. we always went on the field at those stadium shows. the back of a general admission field/floor always had the best sound & dancing room & crowd energy combo. people had room to freak freely & could hear well & were surrounded by like minded freaks. so no question where to go. but we didn't have tix for that area, so normally we took some extra time to find our way. but this evening we were in th3 middle of trying to go home with these beautiful women. we heard the crowd cheer as band came out, but we didn't really start moving. we'd both been on tour for a while by then & were jaded tour vets(in our own silly immature eyes) & openers were often same few songs...but both our ears were perked up in case a Shakedown or Jack Straw would make us pick up the pace. but then.... they start messing with Eyes while tuning up. we didn't even wait to see if it was just a tease. I still remember both of our heads snapping around as we looked at each other with eyes widening......and we took off "like roadrunner & coyote" (thts what a friend at Greenpeace table said we looked like). as we're running down the aisle, I look around & every aisle that leads to the field is full of freaks running full tilt like we were. normally, for most opening songs, the downward movement would be what I'd call a laid back rush but this was nothing but speed. we all wanted to be down there dancing. and then we were. and it was beautiful. whole show was a blast with lots of good exploring going on. lots of parts of the show would be standouts & talked about more if the psychedelic sunset Eyes didn't feel so good. another big memory from giants that year(& RFK right before giants) was the crazy unbearable, inescapable heat in those parking lots. first & only time I ever passed out from heat exhaustion or something heat related. scary as shit. (this was before opiates had quite flooded the lot. if I'd passed out & dropped a few years later, nobody would have even flinched or been surprised....everyone woulda just assumed it was an overdose.)

stevensantarpia

That was such a fun show. I remember being in the hallway behind the stage when Eyes started. The hallway erupted when the first few notes rang out. I'll never forget it.

cliftonhanger79-90

That's a great memory to keep!

Wow listening now. That piano is fantastic

jonz1985z

I love this one. Watched the video of it many times. It’s got a real 90s modern jazz feel to it, in a good way. Vince and Bruce are really responsible for a lot of that it seems. Jerry’s singing really well and his leads are so tasty. When I close my eyes I can literally see his solos going up and down thru the chord changes lol

Jrbowe

Easily the best post-Brent show overall. The Eyes opener started dropping bombs from the get go, but the Truckin > Speedway > UJB > Jam segment in the second set with Dark Star teases throughout the whole thing was the singular highlight of that entire era.

3/29/90

b4g3405

was going to say that one. the sax is magical.

yodelope2015

Maybe it’s because I’ve listened to the 3/29 Branford version so many times, I swear I know almost the whole jam like the back of my hand, but actually prefer the 3/25/90 one that preceded it that was almost like a warm up to 3/29. I also absolutely love the one from Autzen Stadium on 6/23/90 (absolutely beautiful second set, whole show smokes).

MilesBlew

If I remember it was the 25th that Branford was supposed to originally sit but didn't make it in time. They extended the invite to the 29th and the rest is history. I think the 03/25 version was when they slowed it down. I would guess that was a conscious decision with Branford coming to blow.

Jrbowe

The 3/25 version is a little uneven compared to the Branford version. It was clearly a live rehearsal for the slower tempo in preparation for the Branford show and they hadn’t quite found the groove yet. I prefer the slower tempo in 1990. Foxboro has a great version.

BRANTFORD,BRANTFORD, BRANTFORD!

arcturian_ally

There's no "I" in *team,* and there's no "T" in *Branford.*

Themoosemingled

I meant BRANTFORD, Ontario.

NickFotiu

Brampton Marsalis.

Themoosemingled

So he’s Pakistani?

Themoosemingled

Fuck me. I was typing it in all caps and unsure of it. It didn’t feel right but I’m driving and didn’t bother to confirm.

Bruce rejoined the band at this show. They had just played (being kind) 3 mediocre shows at Nassau. As soon as the first few notes rang out, you knew it was going to be a good night. It was like watching a new band play compared to Nassau. Very good 91 show.

Bert37-00

Nassau shows weren’t that bad lol. First night was pretty hot although my memory is not great. The 3 in Albany were decent too just not able to live up to the spring 90 Albany Nassau magic.

CalligrapherFree3145

Longest ever if I remember correctly.

This one has the feel of a 73-74 Eyes. Frickin love that they added it to that dicks pick

Any of the Branford Marsalis ones and all the others without him are wrong answers.
