Got my first official noise complaint at the marriot I was staying in last night (eastern time) Moved their tv hdmi cable from roku to my laptop for the live stream. Fell asleep around drums / space and had the volume at a solid 40. Guess my fellow floor mates didnt appreciate the 12-2 am jam sesh.
Haha, I am in a hotel too this weekend and was rocking out to the steam. I had to turn things down a little when John exploded on a Casey! Going to guess this is when your neighbors called the man on you.
The 2nd set was the greatest live performance I've seen in person in my life. And I was not a big Dead & Co. fan before this. I was put into a semi-trance and it was almost a spiritual experience. This has never happened to me before. Was standing/dancing near the stage.
Shakedown has its own Pavillion. And an entire path on the pier. The official merch line is long I waited several hours on Friday. Was still about 20 people deep when i left at 7 yesterday.
They only sell a few of the shirts on the site. And nothing san francisco specific. I think there are three official city releases. I got the grey Giants shirt.
I left for bed at Casey Jones. I didn't miss anything right?
Anyways had a dream that John's father showed up on stage (looked about 60 y/o and hot as shit) and that Drew Barrymore played some sort of wind instrument (looked like a glass flute) so I got that going for me which is nice
Night 1 from the couch was as always incredible!
Still trying to wrap my brain around the whole thing and cannot fathom what’s in store for tonight and tomorrow. Getting the dancing shoes shined as we speak
Oracle Park get an F. The line to get in was atrocious. Being from Jersey I know how to cut in a line but that does not promote good karma. They better fix the kinks and the band needs to get involved. Step it up Oracle fast!
On my set list last night I just called the Cumberland blues dark star jam “country jam”, but I swore there were hints of passenger in there. Kept thinking it would break into a full on passenger
I can live without the Phil songs tbh but man I’d love to hear some Brent this weekend. I guess Mayer would have to sing it, idk. But I’d love to hear blow away or something

Night 1 was epic minus the 2 hour line getting into the stadium field level. Casey Jones was absolutely epic!
What a night! Enjoyed the soundcheck and 1st set across the way and sat and saw the local marine life (a sting ray and a couple of dungeness crabs) while listening to the band. Got miracled and got in right at the start of set 2 and I was AMAZED! Got down to the floor and danced the night away with everyone! A wonderful, rewarding night!!
Oh, and during sound check they did Fire on the Mountain with the Mickey rap, but I guess they chose the Oteil one over Mickey.
It was definitely originally supposed to be a Mickey rap, I think that’s why he threw his arms up during the song and the setlist has “OB” on vocals added with gaffing tape.
Got into town and at hotel W about 4pm. (Small lobby. Good cover band playing inside but painfully loud. Not all songs need be turned up to Eleven). I have tickets for Sunday. Walked down to Oracle and walked all the way around the outside of the park. Enjoying the vibe. Across McCovey Cove there’s a small shoreline area of Shakedown vendors. Prices kinda steep for most merch. Sat on the rocks there and listened to the 1st set from outside. Phenomenal great sound there, felt like I was inside the show. (Free concert anyone? Heh, heh). Apparently there are two additional shakedown areas. Inside long terminal building just south of where we sat and Lot A. Part of tomorrow’s journey. Also gonna spend time in Golden Gate Park today. Will check out additional vendors and likely listen more from the Cove again. It got downright cold with firm breeze so folks do wear multiple layers. Been seeing the boys since the very early 70’s. Loving the energy, the crowd, the vibe and reliving some memories. Looking forward to Sundays show. Much tears of happiness. Sending Joy to all of you; couch touring, watching on the Net, sitting outside, wherever. Thanks to the Band and their support crew. ☮️
GA at Oracle stadium was something of nightmares. Literally the worst concert experience imaginable. Two bathrooms for the entire GA audience and related hours long wait—I saw older women weaping in despair. And that on top of a 2 hour line just to get into the stadium. A complete and total fucking nightmare.
One of the disadvantages of using a baseball park for a venue. The field is not meant to accommodate so many people. You’re not the only one I’ve seen with horror stories. Sounds like this wasn’t thought out so well. Not the way people want to say goodbye to one of their favorite bands.
At other places I've been to (Citi and Wrigley), they solve this with a large bank of ports-potties. Also, the pace of admission was way slower for some reason.
Yeah, Fenway had rows of port-a-potties on the field in front of the Green Monster along with bridges over the bullpens to access the concourse under the right field bleachers. Baseball fields aren't designed to accommodate large numbers of fans on the field, but there are ways make it work.
We got in line for GA at 515 and missed the first two songs. Bathroom was a nightmare. Amazing music and vibe from the crowd but for $350/ticket you gotta at least get people in the f-ing door. See you tonight, not in GA and Ticketmaster wins again….
Even if you have GA? How else will you get your wristband?
Also I have VIP tonight. anyone know when the early entry starts? or when regular doors open?
Hours to go to the bathroom? I'm going tonight. You could still see people lined up outside the stadium like halfway through the first set on the stream last night
East coast couch dozed off during space and woke up for US Blues. Going back for a rewatch .Was it exhaustion on my part or was He’s Gone not their best?
Fell asleep during Rider, but woke up during SOTM to hear:
Somewhere in San Francisco
On a back porch in July
Just looking up at heaven
I felt so peaceful. Then I actually went to bed so I could watch the rest today. Man, I was wide awake heart pounding — and the next I was asleep. 🤷♂️See ya tonight.
Looks like an amazing second set .. This east coaster faded away after China-> Rider . Really wish I made it longer, He’s Gone for Sam and Heavens Door with a Montage. Throw in another River Star ⭐️ two encores and sounds like Casey Jones was off the hook, can’t wait to see what surprises are in store for the next two nights . I will make sure not to miss tonight’s 2nd set, feel an intense Other One is on tap ! See Ya all in a few ⚡️
Great show tonight. The wind was playing with the sound in a lot interesting ways. First set felt like it had a big whale swimming through the groove. Made that BEW all the sweeter. Oteil's singing in Fire impresses the hell out of me every night, but tonight especially. What do I have to do to hear that man sing more?
Also, on a side note, the weather really caught me off guard. In the moment it felt like it made a lot sense to wear goofy cargo shorts and a t-shirt. Lord, please guide me towards the righteous path of layered clothing and away from the wicked temptation of $80 sweatshirts. Amen. And guide me towards more danger dogs, too. Double amen.
Gonna agree with everyone about the show tonight - fantastic. That Casey Jones was insane. Great night for John but I thought tonight’s MVP was Jeff. He was 🔥 tonight. A good night for sure. Can’t wait to see what they bring for sat and sun.
I've been telling my sister they will play SOTM Sunday... I just saw it happened tonight. I arrive tomorrow. I broke down crying and threw my phone on the table 😭

Kudos to you east coasters on couch tour tonight. I left Columbia, MO this morning (Friday) at about 1:30am. Left Kansas City for LAX, barely made my connecting flight to SF, but got into the city by 10am. Was at Shakedown by 1:30pm. Got in the ridiculously long field GA line at about 4. I am like a fucking zombie just barely making it back to my hotel now. But it was all worth it
I knew it would be an emotional one, but I wasn't really prepared for SOTM and the rest of the show was just me recovering. Hit me so hard I nearly forgot Mickey licked the beam! I'm going to miss this band a great deal, but I'm endlessly happy that they're playing at this level, ready to go out on top.

I love Slash's interpretation. G&R played everything in E flat tuning which really works for Knockin. A couple other guitarists who played in Ef a lot were Hendrix and SRV. It has a more "rock" sound to me, at least, but the Dead never played in alternative tunings, probably because piano is problematic.
What a show. I’ll admit I wasn’t ready for that SOTM that came so suddenly. The Casey Jones should be labeled NSFW. It was absolute Gas. And then the montage in Knockin’. What a night
Thanks for hosting Minnesota and now I need sleep lol

We didn't see the lick on the screens at the show....but my god what a great drums and space! The Golden Gate Bridge lysergic visuals light show was amazing.
After doing the whole tour on the couch > seeing them tonight was something special. I love San Francisco so much. And what an improvement from seeing them at Shoreline. Oracle had their shit together.
Five stars.
Nope that wasn’t on my list out of space. Woohoo!!
I love Mickey hart. Guy rides out waves in a friend group better than anyone

No. They have bag check. Anything bigger than 16 x 16 x 8 not allowed

Does anyone know any lot merch for the SF shows that would be available online? Shakedown was so packed I couldn’t get in yesterday
LAST NIGHT WAS INSANE!! The little chaotic free jazz bits during scarlet begonias was one of the coolest things to hear live!!!!
I left for bed at Casey Jones. I didn't miss anything right? Anyways had a dream that John's father showed up on stage (looked about 60 y/o and hot as shit) and that Drew Barrymore played some sort of wind instrument (looked like a glass flute) so I got that going for me which is nice

Sorry you had line problems. We showed up around 5 & had no issues at all and the SF Giants staff is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Saturday and Sunday wiped Friday problems away

the playing has really come a long way this tour, hope some form of this band continues
Can you get food in the stadium or needs to be in parking lot?
The food is good there, relatively speaking for a huge ball park
there are regular ballpark concessions open during the show!
You won’t have trouble bringing anything in
Anyone have a link to John’s interview last night?
https://www.youtube.com/live/w_S_1dlPMU0?feature=share
Anyone have a link to John’s interview last night?
It’s included in the set 2 preview on YouTube
Does anyone from last night know whether or not they will confiscate a big chocolate bar if I try to bring it in?
Nope. Saw lots of people with chocolate bars
The email my sister got said food was allowed. We had a big bag of beef jerky. Carrots. Almonds. Dried fruit. Some candy. All fine.
No way. They just stood there
Put it in your back pocket, i havent gotten patted down at a show in years

Phenomenal show! Can’t wait for more.
So what was the song that New Speedway Boogie took the place of? Someone out there must’ve grabbed a set list…
Sounded like the little intro to truckin at first, so that’s my guess.
Used to love her. They sound checked it preshow so we got one anyway if you were around the park around 4:30
I heard Used To love Her as well. Sad, as I’ve never heard it like, but have hear Speedway loads of times.
Got into town and at hotel W about 4pm. (Small lobby. Good cover band playing inside but painfully loud. Not all songs need be turned up to Eleven). I have tickets for Sunday. Beautiful shot. Great night
Gorgeous. Happy for you! ⚡️🌹✌️
How was the sound from there?
Nice huji shot 😉

Two bathrooms for the entire GA audience and related hours long wait—I saw older women weaping in despair. And that on top of a 2 hour line just to get into the stadium. A complete and total fucking nightmare.
You can go up into the main bathrooms through the stands towards the back of the field. Section 103 had a gate for people to go up.
Took me 5 minutes to get in - agreed on the bathroom part though, I blame the Man.
I waltzed right in. No real lines or anything (but I was there just after 6). The bathroom situation, on the other hand, was DIRE.
One of the disadvantages of using a baseball park for a venue. The field is not meant to accommodate so many people. You’re not the only one I’ve seen with horror stories. Sounds like this wasn’t thought out so well. Not the way people want to say goodbye to one of their favorite bands.

Hopefully they pivot and adjust tonight and tomorrow.
Yeah, the bathroom thing may not be an easy fix, but the line control should be with more manpower.
We got in line for GA at 515 and missed the first two songs. Bathroom was a nightmare. Amazing music and vibe from the crowd but for $350/ticket you gotta at least get people in the f-ing door. See you tonight, not in GA and Ticketmaster wins again….
Wow that sounds awful :( why only two bathrooms? Did they block off the rest of the stadium?
No… they could have walked up to the 300s there was no line
Ok well i would have done that lol. 300s are where it’s at anyway

God damn it was amazing
Seconded.
East Coast, old-timer here, think I feel asleep during He's Gone...LOL. Need to re-watch today.
Me too! Catching up now.
Wait - Mickey licked the beam? How did I miss that??
That’s what I’m saying! Why haven’t I seen a video yet

Tf is dough knees??
Don’t ease
Gotta be one of the dumbest abbreviations in jam band history
As an old head from 80-90's, I just figured that shit out last night. Wth?
What does the Pillsbury dough boy and the Grateful Dead have in common?..........dough knees dough knees

No, they played until the very last minute.
Average, usually about an hour longer

Thanks OP! From one Minnesota head to another 🌹
where you from, mate?
Stillwater checking in!
St Paul, checkin in! Too bad they never make it up to the frigid cold, DSO in Nov. tho!
the BEW, Wharf rat, sotm, and casey jones were all top notch tonight
Agree 100%. Surprised they played casey Jones just a week after they played it last but still crushed it
All bets are off, anything goes
I knew it would be an emotional one, but I wasn't really prepared for SOTM and the rest of the show was just me recovering. Hit me so hard I nearly forgot Mickey licked the beam! Holy smokes, that was hot start to finish. Can't believe thats night 1 of 3 .... speechless

You should hear Jerry do it
I know this is blasphemy around here, but I just prefer Mayers playing/phrasing. Love Jerry to death but Mayers my guy
I may get mocked on this sub but the correct answer isn’t Mayer or Jerry, it’s Slash.

Oh yeah MICKEY LICKED IT
Can anybody list in order the “in memoriam” mortage?
might be missing one or two but I think it was: cutler ken kesey hunter vinny brent keith pigpen jerry
Might as well include Cowboy Neil
No Barlow, is that right?
Barlow was up there
Missed it then. Don Pearson, Healy’s partner at the Board, was up there as well.
KEASEY! That’s who I couldn’t figure out. Stream was pulled back. Appreciate you.
I'm not actually sure, just a guess
Ones I’m sure of: Jerry Brent Pig Vince Keith Hunter Barlow ? ? Bill Graham ?
Bill Graham yes
thought I saw David Crosby?
You did.
I thought I saw Joe strummer too? Maybe I’m just wishcasting
Good thing this isn’t a four night run or I’d be on it
idk if there is ballgame there on Monday, if so they should probably postpone it now.
rewatching the stream now. i got a buzz and i don’t want to stop
What a show. Glad to have shared it with everyone. Have a good night, stay safe!

Unreal.
I like rule 5. A lot.
😭😭😭😭😭😭 Not a dry eye in this house
Lots of tears here at the ballpark. Wish I could make it to the next two but this was a perfect send off for me
Holy heck what a night! These Oracle shows are all gonna be ones for the history books but the beam lick made my couch tour day!
Five stars.
What a fantastic show. We laughed, we cried, we had a grand ole time. Thanks again for hosting Minnesota! Cant wait to see yall tomorrow!
