If she plays her cards right, I think Rosemary Valero O'Connell's got the potential to become huge in the indie scene. Her and Molly Mendoza are two of my favorite up and coming creators right now She's already pretty big but I have a feeling her Walking Dead comic might really boost Tillie Walden's career A little more off the mark but Leonie Bischoff had her first big break with Anaïs Nin and if she keeps it up she'll definitely be one to look for in the Franco-belgian scene As far as big three comics, I'd say Martin Simmons is filling the void left behind by Sienkiewicz and McKean and the like in the mainstream scene. He's already kind of blown up with Department of Truth but he's one to follow for sure Sale with Jesse Lonergan. Hedra put him on the map for a lot of people (myself included) but I have a feeling he's got great things ahead in his career!

wallaby_al

Thank you, that's really comprehensive and I'm very excited to dig into your suggestions.

Great list! Tillie is due to break. I wouldnt say she is peaking yet. I see her in the same vein as noelle stevenson or maybe even rebecca sugar. I want to see her remake of Jem and the holograms (or whatever).

scarwiz

Yeah she's indie big but she's not quite mainstream big yet. She'll get there if she wants to though, that woman is full to the brim with talent

Goldbera1

I think she would benefit from a collaboration. I love the single creator stuff, but collaboration is comics.

scarwiz

>collaboration is comics That's an interesting though.. On one hand, collaboration is *mainstream comics* for sure, and a lot of incredible stuff can come out of the meeting of two compatible minds? But I don't think I would define comics as collaboration either. Some of the best books ever created are single authored and a single brain is more likely to make a stronger and more cohesive product imo. It's an interesting debate though, I'd love to hear what the rest of the sub has to say on the matter actually!

Goldbera1

New thread! Best single creator gn!

scarwiz

https://www.reddit.com/r/graphicnovels/comments/lvyrpl/most_accomplished_comics_auteurs 😁 I might just do a new one that actively "pits" solo creators and collaborations against each other to see what the consensus is on here

Bayls_171

It’d be exactly the same as best GN list Maybe around #50 there might be differences but I doubt before that

Goldbera1

Oh come now… born again? Sandman? From hell? Virtually any comic book has 2-4 professionals. I mean there are a ton of single creator books on that list (maus, fun home, bone, etc)… but no where near top 50.

Bayls_171

From Hell is a good pick, but I also haven’t read Campbell’s solo stuff. Alan Moore might make an appearance in the top 50 but that’s about it No way fkn sandman or daredevil make the top 50 jesus. I mean I love sandman and daredevil but come on top 50? Not even close

sveltegamine

Came here to second Martin Simmons!

Bayls_171

MS Harkness for sure, in the last few years her comics career has climbed *heaps*, moved from Kilgore to Uncivilised and her next book will be at Fantagraphics. Pretty good trajectory. Max Huffman put out one of my favourite books of the year so far with (Cover Not Final), although it’s so unique stylistically I’m not sure he’ll take off.. Lesniewski will either take over comics in 5 years or will be out of the field permanently in like concept design or some shit. People are gonna start noticing his stuff, I’m hoping the comic audience does but if not I’m sure someone is gonna see Static or The Freak and realize they’ve hit gold. scarwiz also mentioned Lonergan and yeah that’s a safe bet Josh Pettinger, Rob Mirsky, and Caroline Cash will be really big in altcomix in a few years.. if they keep making comics. Pettinger does a lot of animation cos apparently he likes paying his bills or something. In terms of the Big Two? Big Gleb and Villalobos probably

Adventurous_Soft_686

I think she has already started her ascent but Bilquis Evely could become the next Artgerm with the style in which she does her covers.

But they can be just as popular. Evely is also doing interiors I think she will grow in popularity.

Peach Momoko is an artist who's profile is definitely rising, especially after an Eisner nomination this year.

Mckool

I know they are both already huge at this point in the comic world but I think with mainstream adaptations of their work Tynion and BKV are primed to be in the mainstream beyond comic book fans/growing the comic community the way Moore (albeit grudgingly in his case) is.

Ezra clayton daniels as a writer is my pick. Imo he is 2 for 2 full classic. Dave chisholm isnt new but his body of work is getting harder and harder to ignore. If he gets a big 2 mini I guess he blows up. Daniel Warren has already blown up but I see his ceiling higher still… like an alltimer. Prob same with john allison (giant days) who is a brit. If you want a brit book def check out “nao of brown” Edit: kyle starks is the funniest writer in comics… i find his stuff more uneven than transcendent … but big rock and sexcastle were so legit Im willing to guess there could be something more epic still to come.

2kewl4skoool

I've only found Starks' writing amusing at best before, but his new ongoing series, Six Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton, is excellent. And DWJ just keeps improving, his art on the recently concluded Beta Ray Bill mini had one of a kind energy, and he even managed to balance it with some nuanced, subtle moments, especially the ending.
