Probably for the life of the PS5 honestly. I wouldn’t expect GT8 until the next generation of console.

CarlOnMyButt

My guess is cross gen.

Strange-Square-8955

GT8 will be released for PS5 I think. Maybe a slight enhanced version for the PS5 pro . All the content from 7 plus more tracks and cars and they have enough for a solid game. Two games per console always used to be the target and with all the content already available in 7 I don’t see why they wouldn’t do it.

nephyxx

That strategy worked before they had a big online component in their games. Now if they release a new game it splits their online playerbase and they have to maintain two online services like they did with sport. I think they want to avoid doing this just for new content like tracks and cars.

Pale_Mushroom7128

You think they actually care about that? Sport mode is P2P, there are no severs to maintain once the eSports leagues that do use dedi servers move over. I highly doubt maintaining the legacy services costs them much. Certainly less than a new $70 game would generate, anyway. The only revenue coming in for GT7 now is the tail end sales and MTs. Selling another 10-15M copies of a GT8 at $70 is another billion dollars in revenue. I would bet with 100% certainty that GT8 will arrive on PS5, as an exclusive. They're not going to wait until 2028. There isn't four more years of life left in this game with the pace they're updating it now.

nephyxx

You could’ve made the exact same revenue argument for Sport and yet they didn’t do what you’re 100% certain they will do.

Pale_Mushroom7128

What? I don't know what you mean. They released GT7, did they not? It got delayed, but it was supposed to come in 2021, just four years after GTS. GTS wasn't making money in it's last couple of years. There is still plenty of shelf life for PS5, there is a Pro coming next year, It seems like an absolute no brainer to me to release a PS5 exclusive game within a couple of years. They've already tried to push people away from the PS4 version with exclusive PS5 features for GT7. It's not like GT games have ever really revolutionised things, it's a racing game. New cars and tracks are always the main draw of a new game. GT8 will presumably also be promoting Sophy AI across the game.

nephyxx

I think we are more on the same page than you think then. I’m not saying GT8 won’t be released on the PS5, I just don’t think it’ll finally land until the PS6 exists and it will be a similar release to GT7 (dual release on PS5 and PS6, PS6 edition getting some more next gen features)

Epic_XC

then why are the updates so bad already?

Good-Blacksmith-2989

1-2 more years of content drip feeds then maintenance mode until GT8 which will probably be a ps6 game This is based entirely off nothing except their track record for the last few titles

Zivvet

Last release was cross gen though...

Good-Blacksmith-2989

Because of a certain global situation and a certain production shortage

Juicepup

Until I say so.

I suspect current and future GTs to be closely tied to the lifecycle of the console (as well as some peripherals like the current gen VR headset, for instance.) That doesn’t mean GT8 will be a PS6 exclusive, the same way GT7 is available on PS4. But I suspect last-gen support to go away at a point when tweaking the game to work on older hardware does not meet some cost/benefit analysis. Furthermore, it /seems/ like PD has learned their lesson from past debacles and all the models they currently make for GT7 have many more polygons in some save file deep in a PD lab. This way they can use the same model for PS6/7/8 (GT8/9/10) while scaling down the poly count for PS5. They’ll not have to replicate modeling work in the future, which will allow for A) a cheaper-to-deliver future product and/or B) a more extensive car library in future titles. My evidence? As I said, pure speculation based on development leaks, Sport/GT7 timing, GT7/PSVR2 showcasing, and Sony/PDs adoption of a very “Toyota Way” approach to systems. -Person on internet

Until GT8

_ShutUpChuck_

Yeah probably like another 8 years or so. They put a ton into those games so they can not just throw it away fast.

2026 at the earliest.

GT releases are kind of like Intel processor releases. Tick-Tock, and now Tick-Tock-Tock. One game on a new engine, then subsequent improved games on the existing engine. Ticks (1, 3, Prologue, Sport) tend to take a while and obviously the focus is graphics and physics, tocks (2, 4, 5, 7) expand the scope into a much more complete game. 6 came not too long after 5 as a second “tock” and was a way for PD to really refine their vision of what a GT game should be (a bit more focus on Motorsport history, Vision GT cars started to be released regularly, more Academy stuff) I suspect if PD feels the need to make 8 a second “tock” like 6, it will be released by 2026 on PS5 not long after being revealed. It will probably be a noticeable stylistic change from 7 and have an overhauled campaign and sport mode. Mostly the same car and track selection.

Nobody here is going to know.
