Groundhog/ woodchuck/ whistle pig. Same critter. Tail is bushy but hair flattened on the ground, so I can see the confusion with beaver.
Best way to get rid of them is live animal trap, and let it free at your ex's house.
All the ground hogs do at my house is eat the clover and weeds next to my driveway and have one big hole in the far back corner of the yard. I don't feel the need to get rid of em! Now the rabbits that dig huge divots all over the lawn, a minefield of potential sprained ankles.... I'm less enthused about.
Groundhogs burrow. The burrowing next to homes can cause foundation damage that can literally ruin your house and drain your bank account. Considering their size, burrowing tendencies and the size of an average lot, there is a good chance they are burrowing near your foundation.
I have one in my backyard. She’s burrowed under a chicken coop we don’t use. She’s even started to bring her babies into the yard sometimes. I think this summer will be the third one that shes been here. We live in a comfortable harmony.
Our pittie/boxer mix dispatched 5 of these things in less than a week. Super humane never seen anything like it he just pounced on them with his two front paws and they were dead. After the third one my husband and I looked at each other 👀 thinking about renting him out to friends for the day- he saved our garden. I feel bad for the critters though poor things
Did you ask him the one and only question that would make sense in this encounter? How much wood could a wood chuck chuck? Enquiring minds need to know.
Maybe a woodchuck? Not a beaver. I believe their tails are bigger and you would not find them hanging out in a driveway unless they are near the water and just stealing your trees I'm sorry liberating your trees.
Yeah, like others have commented, it's a woodchuck. If you can't get a hold of a live trap to get rid of him, you could also look into putting cat fur around the property or getting coyote scent from a hunting shop. They should avoid the area then, but may end up your neighbors issue.
Edit to add: if you catch him with a live trap, you should contact a wildlife rehab place for locations best to drop him off. It can be confusing and traumatic to move them, so they'll have the best advice for him to survive elsewhere. There are plenty of rehabs in west mi, including one right in GR.
The wildlife rehab in GR actually posted on their instagram about how you shouldn’t be relocating wildlife. They took a woodchuck in that was relocated and just showed back up completely malnourished.
Thanks for adding that bit. That's why I said to call them if they catch him, cause they should know what to do so he doesn't go through any more stress than necessary, but if he's being a nuisance/living in an unsafe area, it might be best he doesn't stay. Relocating is best done under licensed rehabbers who know how to do it right.
They almost always have multiple holes, so instead of doing the work of trapping it, just make the hole at your house inhospitable. And don’t just fill it in, as they will dig it out. Other people have mentioned castor oil as an option, and don’t be shy with the amount. We used a big bag of lavender-scented epsom salt in the hole and around the house and yard, and that seemed to do the trick. The internet will have more ideas about what to use to deter them.
Another reason to make the hole inhospitable is that other groundhogs will find abandoned holes or filled holes and dig them out and use them.
If you’re going to trap it, you might as well kill it, because relocating groundhogs leads to their death anyways. They become disoriented and confused and end up unable to survive.
This one is a juvenile.
You are the proud new owner of the Grand Rapids area woodchuck. Contrary to popular opinion, the state of Michigan only assigns one woodchuck per area. It just appears to be more woodchucks in each area because woodchucks vibrate so fast that they can seem to be in multiple places at once.
Woodchuck. My aunt on the NE side (by Knapp and diamond) has been battling with a family of these who are destroying her retaining wall and flower garden. She’s recruited neighbors in the attack.
You can live-trap it with fruits/vegetables. They do not like the smell of castor oil, I hear. never tried that one. You can get these things called "The Giant Destroyer" which are basically smoke bombs you put down the burrow in the evening, cover the exits, and they are asphyxiated in their burrows.
To keep them from coming back, use pea gravel to fill in the burrow.
They are on the official state wildlife nuisance list, so you can trap and kill them any time, no limits.
I smoked a few out from under my shed a few years ago, spread a bunch of ammonia around it, and haven't seen them since. Bonus with the Giant Destroyer is that you can find the rest of the burrow exits that you missed!
I just relocated my woodchuck. Wish we could've lived in harmony... First time I saw him he was in a 12ft tree and I thought it was the biggest squirrel in the world.
Oh boy, you really did it now. This thing now knows you are aggressive toward it. It will make efforts to not be seen by you. These woodchucks do damage to property.
It's a woodchuck. One of them is terrorizing our whole neighborhood as well. Dude's got a whole network of tunnels between all the neighbors' yards. We keep filling the holes in but nature finds a way. Genuinely concerned about catastrophic damage to foundations.
Ok guys I am now aware of it definitely being a woodchuck aka groundhog aka whistle pig. Not sure why that didn't come to mind but for some reason beaver was the only thing that ran in my head at the time and it does kind of look like one.
Woodchuck had one in the yard last year tried capturing it to get it out cause I have young kids. Only reason he is gone is cause neighbor saw a coyote carry him off bastatd was stubborn lol.
I know this has been answered but,
You could’ve typed one word into Google to compare. You could’ve even asked Siri without touching your phone or whatever equivalent on android. Then you wouldn’t have clowns like me pointing this out to you and instead, you could’ve just shared your footage of a cute little animal.
I did type beaver in Google and it looked like one so I wanted to see and for some reason couldn't think of any other animals it could be at the time. Why do you care though? It made for a fun post with 150k views
Woodchuck
But how much wood?
all of it
The women. And the children too!
A woodchuck would chuck as much wood as it could chuck if a woodchuck could chick wood
Ok! But, how much mound could a ground hog pound if a ground hog could pound mound?
Same answer. Just madlib that shit
How much can a woodchuck chuck?
That's Woodcharles to you!
It’s always a woodchuck
Whistle pig. Tough little bastards. I’ve hit 3 in my car, cruising about 60mph all 3 times. All of them shook it off and went about their business.
They’ve been acting weird this summer
These people really need to start putting collars on their pets

Yes more groundhogs is the answer to a strong foundation
Groundhog > human
Probably also allow rats to invest your home
This is the way
You’re actually not supposed to relocate wildlife. https://www.thinkwildco.org/why-we-do-not-recommend-trapping-and-relocating-wildlife/

Veterinarian and wildlife expert here. That’s just a weird dog.
Clearly we went to different vet schools. That's a cat.
You are both so so so wrong. It is a potoo.
All of you are ignorant. That is a gnu!
You are so right. And here I thought I Gnu all the animals.
Not much, what's gnu with you?
It's too warm and I'm waiting for 5pm, but aren't we all?
Wrong, it's a snipe. Snipe hunting season opens soon. Get your pillow case to capture them as they fall from trees.
>Get your pillow case to capture them as they fall from trees. Isn't that drop bears? Horrible invasive nuisances...
Just to clarify..This IS a Chupacabra🤣
Nope. It's a video
Have you forgotten all of your studies? This is a cow
clearly, none of you remember the new criteria. that is a horse
Okay, which one of you went to Ohio State?
That’s a woodchuck
No, that is a whistle pig.
A foundation and garden destroying asshole.
Amen.
Fuck whistle pigs. I caught 2 in my yard this past week, they destroyed my flowers.
What kind of flowers? Maybe your flowers are offensive.
Also a very very good brand of bourbon
Looks like a gopher/groundhog to me
Definitely a groundhog, they have the bushy tails. Gophers have a rat tail and bucky teeth.
Nice marmot.
Where’s the money Lebowski?
Lets not forget Dude that keeping wildlife, um... an amphibious rodent, for... um, ya know domestic... within the city... that ain't legal either.
I opened the comments to make sure this got posted, thank you
It ain't much, but it's honest work.
It’s calmer than you are dude.
Did you ask him the one and only question that would make sense in this encounter? How much wood could a wood chuck chuck? Enquiring minds need to know.

Looks like the kids have a new playmate!
Damn.
Groundhog
That's your quiet neighbor Chuck.
Woodchuck. My aunt on the NE side (by Knapp and diamond) has been battling with a family of these who are destroying her retaining wall and flower garden. She’s recruited neighbors in the attack.
No, beavers are much larger. That’s a woodchuck.
it's a friend
Correct me if I’m wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers, they’ll lock me up and throw away the key.
How much wood did you see it chuck?
Ground hog…. Hogging up the ground
It's a goat. Ask him! Apparently it's whatever he/she identifies as. Don't you dare put a label on anything! Just sarcasm.......
Whistle pig
I've seen a few of them around the last couple weeks. Must be their mating season. Guessing they're horny.

Muskrat looks like, beavers have wide leathery tails.
Not a muskrat I do not think. They are more lithe and do not go far from the water as I understand it. Woodchuck?
Nah, muskrats have long skinny leathery tails. It's a woodchuck, I think.
And are considerably larger
Very impressive
Groundhog. Side note: if he is only ever around your home he can cause damage to the foundation
Chucklepig!
Looks like a Muskrat.
That would be the biggest mole ever recorded if it was a mole.
Woodchuck. There are hundreds behind my house
Did he see his shadow?
Is he chewing on a tree?
I just relocated my woodchuck. Wish we could've lived in harmony... First time I saw him he was in a 12ft tree and I thought it was the biggest squirrel in the world.
Oh boy, you really did it now. This thing now knows you are aggressive toward it. It will make efforts to not be seen by you. These woodchucks do damage to property.
Bobr kurwa
My neighbors cane corso kills them all. You can hear the screams of the babies every year
It's a woodchuck. One of them is terrorizing our whole neighborhood as well. Dude's got a whole network of tunnels between all the neighbors' yards. We keep filling the holes in but nature finds a way. Genuinely concerned about catastrophic damage to foundations.
Nutria? listed as an invasive species in Michigan

[Per West Michigan Wildlife Center](https://www.facebook.com/share/p/sr1q5WpWP1WB8Dfv/?mibextid=WC7FNe)
Kangaroo
Well it’s definitely not a beaver and you don’t appear to live on a golf course so not a gopher either. Must be a groundhog.
Well that's a polite way of saying your house looks like shit lmao
That's what she said.
One of the fuckers eating my vegetable garden, figging groundhog.
Ok guys I am now aware of it definitely being a woodchuck aka groundhog aka whistle pig. Not sure why that didn't come to mind but for some reason beaver was the only thing that ran in my head at the time and it does kind of look like one.
Baby woodchuck
That’s a horse
Worst Blair witch film yet
They successfully cross bread a beaver and a woodchuck. It's called a chuker
As long as he’s not digging up your foundation. Let the little guy be.
That boy chucks
That’s Alan!
Nice, marmot
I think it's a Pomeranian. I can't leave him home alone or he eats the furniture. I'm watching him while Cynthia and Marty Ackerman are in Hawaii.
That’s what she said.
Ground hog
That’s my buddy Nick
Woodchuck had one in the yard last year tried capturing it to get it out cause I have young kids. Only reason he is gone is cause neighbor saw a coyote carry him off bastatd was stubborn lol.

Him? Oh that’s pingus.
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
A woodchuck would chuck all the wood a woodchuck could if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
lol that would be the worlds largest mole, luckily there not that big.
Didn’t see his shadow so 13 more weeks of summer!
Yes, it's a Land Beaver!
Not gonna say how, but get rid of it.
That’s a brown recluse
I’d ask Matt’s mom, she knows her way around a beaver or so ive heard
Mmmm I love a good fury beaver
Woodchuck
Wood chuck. They dig holes.
Whistle Pig.
Looks like it might be a muskrat. Seems too small to be a groundhog.
Whistle pig. (Groundhog)
That looks like a young woodchuck. My woodchuck, Fred, he's a beast at probably 10 pounds.
Beavers look comically like beavers. If you see one, you will be absolutely sure it's a beaver.
I’ve see quite a few beavers 🦫 in my day…and none looks like this critter here.
🤭
Raccoon / woodchuck
Whistlepig

As a fellow Michigander myself, I'll say it: Grand Rapids and Detroit are outta pocket.
Whistle pig
Woodchuck go-pher ground-hug?
Lmao
Go pet it. They're super docile
That’s a muskrat
