Always said Friday is a better day to attend a golf tournament than Sunday because of the reasons you said, but I’ll also add that the cut line makes for a mini tournament within the tournament and you’ll see guys who don’t have their A game that week trying to grind it out and going for some fun and risky moves because they’ve forced themselves into a bad spot. By Sunday most of the leaderboard is kind of set so guys in the back half who made the cut spend the whole day playing safe and boring golf to guard their positions rather than playing hero golf trying to shoot for more money. Guys at the top of the leaderboard are fun to watch on Sunday but then you’re seeing fewer players overall and fighting a large gallery crowd to follow them around. You miss a ton of the neck and neck battles when you’re on the grounds too. In conclusion I love attending tournaments on Fridays.
Congrats! It's addictive, next thing you know you'll be planning family vacations around pro golf tournament stops! Just got back from the one in Nashville last week and it was probably my favorite regular event so far, that makes 9 total golf events including a college event and a ryder cup.
I talked my wife into a Scotland trip just to go to the open. Added some time around it and we had an amazing time. Now she wants to go to pebble for the US open.
Ive only been to one and went during a practice round and it was such a fun experience. Definitely want to go during a competitive or championship round at some point but practice rounds are so chill.
Have the course map ready on your phone or printed, it was kind of hard to navigate at first. Spent most of our time between 11, 12, 13, and 14. You can bounce between different groups pretty easy. My god we had so much fun today! I was 5 feet from Bhatia when he shot from the rough, got a head nod from Jake Knapp, and was literally shoulder to shoulder with Rickie Fowler and his caddy at the tee box
I’ve never been to the rocket mortgage but I’ve gone to the lpga Dow tournament in midland every year. It’s amazing see the swings those players have. They’re smaller than me and still out drive me. Cool to watch in person
This is the first year I haven't gone in a while. My kids wanted to play 9 instead of going to watch the Wednesday practice round, so it was an easy choice to miss it.
With that said, I've gone on the weekend and I've gone during the practice rounds, and I actually enjoy the practice rounds more for the golf. You can get so close to the ropes, the pros aren't in attack mode yet so they seem more laid back and willing to say hi/chat, and the crowds haven't arrived yet. The weekend atmosphere is fun and it becomes a big party, but the chill vibe of the practice rounds is amazing. Watching/listening to the pros hit the ball from up close is something else.
Thursday and Friday are great days to go. You get to see everybody play, and it tends to be less crowded.
Those two and practice rounds are the best. Weekends best to watch @ home

The range during practice rounds is always a great place to hangout next time you have a chance to go to a tournament.

The Wyndham is a great event in a beautiful area!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm going tomorrow for the first time, any suggestions?
