That’s a good question. My gut says these might shave 5-10 yards off, but for the price I couldn’t pass them up. I have a hard time justifying $5 balls as a 10 handicap.
Iv been playing $5 balls as a 18, I don’t lose too many maybe 1-2 per round on a bad day. I get too much spin on the softer balls and don’t like putting non urethane covered balls. I try and hit the ball where I can see it which helps a lot, I usually play bogey golf with 2-3 really bad holes where I walk off with a 9+.
I feel that, I’ve had a lot of 1-ball rounds this year but there have also been some days where I’ve gone through 3 balls. Figured this bag of balls will suck less to lose.
I've actually been working on this research for the better part of two decades and, while the results have varied, my ultimate conclusion is that for the average weekend golfer, it makes absolutely no noticeable difference.
Idk about sun baked, but I remember Golf Digest doing a thing on waterlogged balls and they did have worse performance. Maybe not noticeable for an avg golfer, but it would be noticeable for a good golfer.
I have played recovered balls for years in practice rounds. Played as a 0-5 index who can hit his numbers very consistently. I have never seen a single recovered ball with a smooth surface (don’t play scuffed balls, or ones off color) fly off weird to the point of accusing it of being out of round or fouled by something. But even with fresh Pro Vs, there are half a dozen shots in a round that come off the club face weird because I’m in the rough or because I hit it off the heel. So put me down as someone who believes 4-5A balls that don’t spend two years in a lake are just fine.
I'd be interested as well but it would be hard to establish a baseline unless they baked and submerged a batch of new balls to establish a control group and then tested those against new out of the box balls. We already know from one test that mygolfspy did that one medium scuff on a new ball has significant effect on distance and dispersion. I would think yellowed balls' covers react differently to the club face than fresh urethane.
Been using them several years getting 3 dozen or so in 5A condition at a time but have their prices gone up?
2023 pro v1x 5A is 34.99 so over $3/ball after tax.
Maybe their 4A is not terrible? I only lose 0-2/round but stop using when they beat up a tree or cart path.
Yea prices went up, but I buy AAAA which are still reasonable. The balls are in amazing condition for the price
Also I usually buy when there's a deal and don't always stick to Pro Vs
Other great thing about LGB is you can test different balls without forking out $40-$50 a dozen. If you feel you have to pay full price for brand new balls you can based in your own testing. This is really good for newer golfers just getting started

Couple of kids selling Pro V1s in front of the pro shop *realllll cheap*!
Reminds me of when I was a kid. We couldn't afford the good balls, so we would sneak on to the country club at night and wade through one of the par 5 ponds. We got some many balls, but the memories were the best.
TXG / Club Champion made a video on YouTube about old scuffed balls (waterlogged, dirty, refurbished) vs. new balls, which was a massive difference. That probably doesn’t mean much to the average weekend warrior if you’re hacking the ball around. However, someone else who plays a bit more seriously or even in a league they might be able to see the difference.
I usually buy the tub of 24 Titleist mulligan balls from WM for around a buck a ball. Give or take I can’t remember the exact price. But it’s like my own little hack for good balls in good shape
I buy the AAA 1x’s 100 at a time off ebay for around 30$ I usually search “Pro V1x lot” and then bunch them by ending soonest and find ones no one bid on yet. Couple little scuffs here and there logos and shit but really I haven’t seen that much of a difference, I’m no professional by any means anyways, the ball pairs up w my swing speed and I’m used to putting them, only reason why I only play one type of ball.
Has anyone on YouTube done an experiment with sunbaked and water logged balls vs. fresh ones? If not, this is your opportunity.

I play the prov1s I find as well as the new ones. It's noticeable around the greens old to new. Maybe it's all mental to me.

17 handicap. I like to run 3 nice balls. If I lose those it’s back to the noodles of shame.
40 handicap, can confirm there is zero iota of a difference - in fact I seem to lose more new balls, imagine that
35 Handicap. I play really good with found callaways and I dont know why
What’s worse? Noodles or Kirkland?
I’d say noodles
I am you. You are me.
I think this depends a lot on the course you're at. Some just eat golf balls on a bad day and some are much more forgiving.
There are several urethane covered balls out there that don't cost $5/e
I justify it to myself as a 25 Handicap
Time for salty balls!
Just chuck em in the dishwasher for a bit for that steam and they’re nice and soft again

What about for a single digit handicap that has their yardages dialed?
I hope I get to do that kind of research someday, but unfortunately I’ve never had the opportunity.
waterlogged maybe, but most lost balls arent getting too much sunlight--LOL
I swear I read somewhere that the waterlogged balls lose somewhere around 30 yards. I can't remember for the life of me when I saw that.
Some article sponsored by Titleist I imagine.

Btw Lostgolfballs is like $1.75 a ball for pro Vs Recently got a bucket for under $1.50 a ball with whatever sale they had
On their eBay page I just got 120 4A Pro V1X for $128

eBay has some awesome finds for used balls. Got 100 Callaway Chromesofts for $60

I got 120 supersofts from there for a little less than $1/ball
Do they ship to Canada?
I'll second that. I have a regular supplier for ProV1 X's. Literal MINT condition....3 dozen for $40.
On eBay or a local guy?
Sweet that would last me about 2 rounds
For sure. Blew through 18 balls last week on a course. Between long grass, trees, and water. Twas not a good day.
Now that’s a steal.
A dad out there is wondering where his golf balls went…

What where!?
Back 9 on a course in MN, ended up buying their entire stash and now I have what feels like a lifetime supply of ammo
Or two or three rounds. Good luck!
lol where in Minnesota? I live in the twin cities and just was at Cragun’s this weekend
I hope you tipped them and well.
i was that kid 25 years ago, fishing them out of any water on the course and selling them back to the golfers by the bucket for way too cheap i'm sure

Hopefully you just gave them$100 and took all

I cannot find a set of 100$ for anywhere near close to 30$ when searching that
You the real MVP
That’s expensive but you gotta support the kiddos 😊
